Overview
With thousands upon thousands of shinobi spread across dozens of shinobi villages, all of which reside in varying environments. It is not surprising that many shinobi develop unique or specialized abilities. These abilities can form in a variety of ways, ranging from genetic traits that they have inherited, specialized jutsu or abilities they learned from their clans or even just abilities they have studied or trained years to be capable of performing.

Below I have listed several of the more common special abilities some shinobi develop or inherit from their genetics. However, you are welcome to add anything you feel would fit in the special abilities and it may be accepted. If we feel it doesn't fit, doesn't need to use a SA slot to have it or simply can not be allowed at all then you will be informed to pick another in the review process.

Common Special Abilities

Medical Training
While some shinobi learn to utilize some basic medical ninjutsu, it does not replace the necessity of actual medical training. A character with this ability has an in-depth understanding of human anatomy and is capable of performing more complicated surgeries with nothing, but their mundane surgical tools.

Enhanced Chakra Control
This ability is generally developed in genjutsu, medical ninjutsu and puppetry practitioners. This is not only because of the level of control these techniques require to be performed well, but also due to the amount of shinobi with lower chakra reserves who gravitate towards these fields. However, it should be noted that any shinobi without larger chakra reserves, will generally learn better chakra control in order to make better use of what reserves they do have.
Bijuu Hosts and Sages are unable to have this ability, unless appealed for. It is also to be noted that no shinobi can have enhanced chakra control and enhanced chakra reserves.

Enhanced Chakra Reserves
The opposite side of the coin as chakra control, generally a shinobi is born with enhanced chakra reserves through their genetics (with clans being the most notable case of this.) With enhanced chakra reserves, a shinobi is capable of utilizing more jutsu over a short amount of time without tiring out, as well as being able to use stronger jutsu more often before tiring out.
Bijuu Hosts and Sages must have this ability in order to host a Bijuu or attain Sage Mode. It is also to be noted that no shinobi can have enhanced chakra reserves and enhanced chakra control.

Clan Hijutsu/KG
With every village having several clans of varying natures being the foundation of their power, it is not an uncommon occurence for shinobi to utilize abilities unique to their clan. These can be specialized Hijutsu techniques which take years to learn and decades if not lifetimes to master fully, but also include Kekkai Genkai (or bloodline) techniques that are inherited through genetics and the shinobi is naturally capable of utilizing.

Bijuu Host
While there are only nine bijuu in the world, they have been utilized as weapons for over a century and as such are widely know of even if their details are not known as well. Being the host of a Bijuu grants the shinobi a plethora of abilities (while only taking a single SA slot.) and perhaps most importantly grants them an extreme boost to their chakra reserves.

Enhanced Physical Trait
Primarily seen in taijutsu or bukijutsu specialists (not always), an enhanced physical trait ranges from an individuals endurance, speed, strength, flexibility and so on. These abilities generally are trained over years of practice, but occasionally might be inherited naturally from a clan's bloodline ability. (Such as the Uzumaki's increased endurance/longevity)

Enhanced Sense
Just as chakra control and reserves go hand in hand, enhanced senses share the same coin with enhanced physical traits. Enhanced senses are restricted to the five basic senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Generally these enhanced senses occur from the absence of other senses. However, they also can be trained to be stronger or can be stronger due to a genetic inheritance.

All senses need a range, these ranges (unless otherwise specified) follow the sensory rule range located in the sensory spoiler below. When making your SA please use the correct range for the appropriate rank.

Unnatural Abilities
What are unnatural abilities you might be wondering. Well, this would essentially cover abilities such as photographic memory, extreme intelligence, ambidexterity and so on. Essentially they are all abilities that shinobi are occasionally born with that can prove to be extremely useful.

Layered Genjutsu
Those gifted in the field of genjutsu learn to layer them on top of one another without breaking the original illusion the target was caught in. While extremely challenging to pull off (requiring enhanced control and genjutsu specialization), it opens the possibility of compounding impairments being placed on a target.

Layered Genjutsu can only effect each sense with one impairment.  The newest genjutsu's impairment will overlay the previous if there happen to be two of the same.  (You can't have two sight genjutsu working at the same time)  Layered Genjutsu is able to be broken by Kai'ing the lowest ranked jutsu out of the layer.

Limitations are as follows:
- Soles can layer S ranks and below
- Primaries can layer B ranks and below.  Can only layer 3 jutsu max.
- Secondaries can layer C ranks and below.  Can only layer 3 jutsu max.

Lingering Genjutsu
Another specific ability for those gifted in the field of genjutsu.  Lingering is what some would call a 'trap' effect.  Once a genjutsu is cast and the target is caught, the user is able to cast a second genjutsu to linger in 'hiding' beneath the first.  It will remain inactive until the first jutsu is kai'd out of.  Then, that trap card is revealed and the second genjutsu automatically takes over.   This also is quite the intricate feat to pull of, requiring vast chakra control and a genjutsu specialization.

Limitations are as follows:
2 Techniques - 1 Active and 1 Trap
- Soles can use A ranks and below to linger
- Prim can use B ranks and below to linger
- Secondary can use C ranks and below to linger

Sensor Shinobi
While some sensor shinobi are born into clans with specialized sensing abilities, the majority of sensor shinobi learn to utilize the ability over time. By utilizing their enhanced chakra control most sensor shinobi are able to feel the area around them with their chakra and determine nearby objects and individuals, even being able to differentiate between different people.  And some skilled few can even suppress their chakra to minimal levels at the cost of not being able to utilize one's techniques.
- Enhanced Chakra Control Required.

Chakra Sensing Ranges Relative to Rank:

Active - Focussing on the area, asserting more chakra into the sense.
Passive - The range in which a shinobi can sense without supplying more than the bare minimum chakra.

*Note: Special Jounin who specialize in ninjutsu will utilize the Jounin range. Special Jounin who do not specialize in ninjutsu will utilize the Chuunin Range. *

**Note: Shinobi who don't specialize in ninjutsu can still have a chakra sensing SA, at the cost of half the range for passive sensing. Eg: Eric Uchiha the Elite Jounin with a genjutsu sole spec will only be able to sense 500m passively. **

Elite Jounin:
Active: 5km / Passive: 1km

Jounin:
Active: 2km / Passive: 400m

Chuunin:
Active: 1km / Passive: 200m

Adv. Genin:
Active: 300m / Passive: 60m

Genin:
Active: 100m / Passive: 20m

Academy Student:
Active: 25m / Passive: 5m

Sensor Jammers
In an effort to combat the intel-gathering capability of those shinobi who have trained as sensor-nin, some shinobi blessed with a wealth of chakra reserves have developed the capability to run interference against sensory-nin. They have trained to manipulate their reserves such that there is a constant flow of chakra emitting from their person, making it difficult for sensor-nin to detect the target's exact location. With concentration and an additional expenditure of chakra, this range can be increased to help cloud the chakra signatures of allies as well.
- Enhanced Chakra Reserves Required.

Sensor Jammer Ranges Relative to Rank:

Active: Focusing on the area, asserting more chakra into the interference.
Passive: The range in which a shinobi can run interference without supplying more than the bare minimum chakra.

Note: Special Jounin who specialize in ninjutsu will utilize the Jounin range. Special Jounin who do not specialize in ninjutsu will utilize the Chuunin Range.

Academy Student:
Active: 10m / Passive: 5m

Genin:
Active: 60m / Passive: 30m

Chuunin:
Active: 80m / Passive: 40m

Jounin:
Active: 100m / Passive: 50m

Elite Jounin:
Active: 120m / Passive: 60m

Silent Killing
Albeit all shinobi are trained to kill as silently as possible, only ANBU and elite groups of shinobi (example: Seven Swords Men of the Mist) are truly capable of this feat. The Silent Killing technique is a true mix of stealth, skill and art that requires patience, speed and precision. ANBU are often taught this as part of their training, for they are required to use these kinds of methods.

Poisons/Toxins
The ability to handle and carry toxins upon one's person requires a knowledgeable and delicate touch.   An ability that allows one to utilize poisons from their inventory as well as carry antidotes to heal the specific poisons they have on hand as well.   While those with specializations in Puppetry or Medical Ninjutsu are naturally able to carry said poisons, one outside of these Specs must utilize an SA to have them in their inventory.

Rank Limitations

  • Academy Student - 1 SA
  • Genin - 2 SA
  • Chuunin - 3 SA
  • Sp. Jounin - 4 SA
  • Jounin - 5 SA
  • Elite Jounin - 6 SA
