Rising Buddha

Background

A glistening sunlight illuminates the night sky, turning it to day for but a moment, before passing back to darkness and the stars above. Yet the heavens shimmer, a statue, pristine in its splendor as it sits among the clouds. No...as the clouds sit among it. It rests atop of Hokage Mountain, looking down onto Konohagakure along with the faces of the Shodai and Nanadaime, a silent sentinel of wooden brilliance. Men and women have gathered to gaze on the anomaly, the unmoving towering castle in the sky, with a base firmly implanted and almost ingrained into the stone ridge. Beams of light erupt through the statue’s countless appendages, seemingly cast down by the tower itself, creating exquisite luminescence. Some men and women back away, shielding their eyes, fear beginning to rise in the backs of their minds. Others directly gawk at its magnificence. Three women stand before the crowd, their bodies visible beneath one of the circles of light. They are beautiful, their hair pale and white like snow, their eyes electric blue like the lipstick upon their lips; frigid and cold to the eye. One speaks, the one in the front, the obvious leader of this troupe.

"An obvious message from our lord, the God of the Land and Skies, Champion of Guru. His name is Ōkuninushi and he decrees that Ninjutsu be wiped from the face of this Earth. No longer shall you shinobi poison our mother. Submit to Him and no harm shall come to you."

Her head moved a minuscule amount, a kunai sailing passed her ear, captured by one of her sisters behind her. Dressed in traditional Jounin Shinobi garb, an elderly man steps from the crowd, his brown eyes upon the sisters. He had lived long enough to know how these things typically went. They gaze upon him with contempt, before the leader raises a hand and points to the man, her eyes filled with disdain.

"Witness what becomes of a man who will not accept His mercy."

She moved, fast, almost too fast for the Jounin to see. His head bobbed left and right, short cut grey hair bouncing, his body moving to avoid the strikes of the woman. After only a moment, the Jounin decided to go on the offensive, launching a few strikes of his own to create breathing room. She was skilled, likely having trained long and hard, but sweat shown upon her face where the man had none. His hands danced and birthed a blazing ball of Katon, momentarily roaring before devouring the woman with agonizing burns. The woman had merely held up her hand, a strange marking on her palm that appeared identical to the statue above. A grimace was on her face. He would no longer struggle with the woman. He closed in on her, his strikes connected, up her side and along her back. Falling to her knees, she looked up once more to this statue before her arms fell onto her lap.

"FORGIVE ME LORD, FOR MY CONVICTION WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH.”

The Jounin was quick to grab the woman by her wrists, effectively handcuffing her with jutsu before taking her away. Her sisters would look at one another before turning to supplication.

"We ask that you doom this generation, and perhaps make their children more susceptible to your Word.”

Civilians would only look to one another in dismay and confusion. What were they on about? Could this really have possibly been a god?
