Modding is so troublesome
But I guess I’ll do it.

The Sunagakure chuunin exams were at hand and the first stage was about to commence. Seeing as there would be no spectators for this part two Jounin of the village overlooking it gathered up the participants of the exams at the crack of dawn. The room all the genin would be gathered at was rather non-descript with a small podium at one side where the to older ninja were standing and facing all the chuunin hopefuls.

Despite standing at almost six feet the male of the two jounin didn’t look that intimidating at first glance due to having most of his face hidden by hair and his body covered by a worn brown cloak. Still his voice rumbled out with an edge that more made up for his appearance.

"Listen up you wastes of water for the duration of this part of the exams or till you die you will be my responsibility. Now as you know you have come here to try and advance up the ranks, do your village proud and a whole load of other propaganda you were feed in you baby minds till now.”

"The lives you have lead until now have been easy, so your resolve had never been tested nor have you had the need to try and bear the responsibility that comes with being chuunin. I won’t be wasting any more spit to try and explain what all that entails but instead I’ll explain what your first obstacle would be. Information, deduction, extraction all important parts of certain types of mission and something all shinobi need to have an inkling of.

"You’ll be placed in a room with the goal of escape within a certain time limit should you succeed you will find yourself at an advantage and should you fail…well.” Taking a moment for a razor-sharp grin to sprout on his face and a few ominous chuckles to escape him the jounin quickly continued speaking "Oh did I tell you that the exams has already started, and all this speech was for the odorless gas that’s been pumping into to room to put you all under. Considers this your first lesson Ta-ta.

As of on cue all the gathered genin would black out allowing for the examiners and their helpers to do their work to split up the examinees in groups and transport them to the chambers where the first task would take place.

The participants of group D-6 would find themselves waking up in a spacious room that besides a small pedestal in the center with a scroll on top of it and four doors at each wall was completely empty. Though that didn’t mean that it wasn’t decorated, and the walls and doors were littered with numerous murals depicting a different story on each.

A merchant getting lost in the desert and only surviving due to finding an oasis to drink its water only for patrolling shinobi to find his corpse decomposing next to a rock with sand trailing down his chin was painted on the south wall.

A merchant getting lost in the desert and only surviving due to finding an oasis to rest and recover for the night against a tree only for patrolling shinobi to find his corpse decomposing despite having no apparent injuries on him was depicted on the north wall.

A merchant getting lost in the desert and only surviving due to finding a cave to escape the sand storm coming only for dispatched shinobi to find his naked corpse decomposing propped on the red wall was engraved on the east wall.

A merchant getting lost in the desert and only surviving due to finding a cave to escape the sand storm coming only for dispatched shinobi to find his corpse decomposing next to tools he made himself and a wall engraved with pleadings of salvation was painted on the west wall.

Should the scroll on the pedestal be opened the following would be written on it "It reflects the light and blinds the sight but only if you capture it with your eyes. Should it do the water appealing suddenly would be.”

The genin in the room after wakening up would be able to notice after a bit of time the whole chamber is gradually increasing in temperature.

He was not expecting to be gassed during these exams. He heard things about them and was worried about some really bad stuff to happen to him, but this was...a mild experience. As he woke up Tetsuya slowly took in his surroundings. A room with some kind of puzzle, sounds about right for an exam for shinobi.

The first thing that caught his eye were the murals on the door telling rather gruesome stories in his opinion. As he moved forward to get a better look at them he didn't even notice the stool until he bumped his leg into it and knocked it over, dropping the scroll and letting it unfold along the ground. "Oops." He mumbled under his breath as he picked it back up and looked at what was inside. He read over the words at least twice before turning back to face the rest of the group holding it up for all of them to see.

"Anyone good with riddles?"

Finally, the moment I've been waiting for.

After a few years remove from early retirement Sanosuke had finally entered the Chuunin exams. The feeling was surreal. Not many Genin got the opportunity to participate in such a dangerous event. He'd already skipped out on two exams since his return to the world of Shinobi out of respect for the fact that he had not trained in a number of years. The exams were not for the weak, or the faint of heart, and while he knew his heart was strong his craft had gotten considerably weak over the years. The Genin participating in these exams had been training for years on without so much as stopping to take a breather. These guys were ready to lay everything they had on the line in order to receive this promotion which meant he had to be ready to do the same. "Hmm.. I don't see Mika in the area..." The Takeda questioned to himself as he looked around for his teammate. He hadn't seen her for a number of days leading up to the exams, but to his knowledge he thought that this time around she might actually participate.

"I guess she's flaking on the exams again.... So much for having friends right?"

There were many people traveling from all over the world to enter the exams. This created many advantages, while creating just as many disadvantages. The plus side to all of this was that there wasn't many people out there that knew your strengths if you were coming in from another village. This always created room for a surprise element, but the same also applied for the opposite because that meant you knew nothing of the other village Genin strengths or weaknesses either. While such an element could be a pain it helped to separate those who relied on nothing but raw power from those who relied on intelligence to accomplished assigned task. Both were essential to being a Shinobi, but power alone wasn't something that could help you rise through the ranks in the world of Shinobi. Being a Ninja was about be tactful, and there wasn't much power could do to increase your proficiency in that area. Nonetheless, everyone that needed to be here had arrived and now the Jounin proctors were going to proceed with the exams.

As usual things begin with a lecture. It wasn't the most inspiring, but that was completely besides the point as everything the proctor spoke of was true. None of them had a clue of the real adversaries that existed outside of the stories they were told. Up until now most of them had only been on C rank level missions, and those who were considered worthy enough had only been tasked with being on borderline B rank missions. Other than that their Shinobi careers had been relatively easy. However, for himself and everyone here this was there chance to separate themselves from the rest of the Genin in their respective Villages to become Chuunin. The proctor wasted no time cutting his blunt speech short in favor of revealing what the first task of these exams were going to be about. Information, deduction, extraction eh? Man, so much for Mika not being around, I bet she would have breezed through this portion without so much as having to break a sweat. Looks like I'm going to need to rely heavily on all that training her and I went through together.

After explaining the rest of the objective of the first round the proctor ended things by explaining that the goal was to escape the room in a certain time limit. "Oh boy.." The Takeda murmured. "Wait a minute? Gas??" Before he could even get any more words out he'd find himself passing out and waking up in a room just as describe by the Jounin in charge. For the time being there was about five of them in the room, and outside of himself the only person that was awake was some kid from another village. At least that was his assumption based on the way he looked and the fact that he never saw him before. It appeared as though the kid had been up longer than himself as he'd already opened up some kind of scroll with supposed information on how to get out of this. "Riddles??? You've got to be kidding me...." The Takeda spoke nonchalantly as he stood from off the ground to check to see if all the rest of his gear was in place. So far none of his tools had been removed and his six fusion swords were all still in their slots on the harness tied to his back.

"Hmm... I wonder if these Murals have anything to do with that is written on those scrolls. Let me take a look at it."

He'd ask the boy as he begin to walk up to him to see what was written on them. "Man.. Whoever wrote this needs to go back to school man." After taking a good look at what was written on the scroll the Takeda begin to walk through all the different mural depicted by each exit and begin to read their stories to see how each of them correlated to the riddle begin provided to them. "Sigh... If only I had more time to train these eyes I'd just be able to see which exit was the real one, but then again I guess that would defeat the purpose of all this..."

You'll never get away

from the past

The time had finally come, Ryuu had finally been given the green light to attempt the Chuunin exams and hopefully do his village proud. He hadn't been told what all would be involved this year but he tried his best to prepared for everything. As the Genin began to funnel into the room he looked around at the competition. He wasn't overly impressed based only on looks but the young boy knew better than to go just off that. Each one had proven themselves capable to some extent and that made him more than aware that each could be fairly dangerous in their own right. Still, he had faith in his own skills as well as his ability to break down each ones style when the time came.

He had been awake already when they came for him and as such he was wide awake where as others might have been still trying to wake up. He looked blankly as the Jounin from Suna began prattling off about how they'd never truly known what it meant to have responsibility thrust upon them. He listened but the thing that caught his attention was the attitude of the Jounin. Something felt off and soon enough, his fears were confirmed.

Even before the Jounin alerted them all to the gas, Ryuu felt his body getting heavy. He fought it off as hard as he could, watching the Genin around him flop over one by one. Eventually, however, he too found himself falling asleep. He was carried with another group of Genin to a room and tossed in. He slowly began to wake up and the moment his mind clicked on he popped up off the floor and began looking around. The words of the Jounin echo'd in his head as he knew that they had already begun the test and knew that their task was to escape. He began looking at each of the murals and committing them to his memory.

He then heard the mention of a riddle and moved towards the center of the room to read it. "It reflects the light and blinds the sight but only if you capture it with your eyes. Should it do the water appealing suddenly would be... It's not a well known riddle that's for certain... Though had they used something well known it would make it all too easy for us. Still, judging from the four paintings on the walls and what they depict..."

The young Yutakako stopped mid thought and crossed his arms over his chest. He closed his eyes and let several thoughts and answers run through his mind before he opened them and sighed. "It almost seems too easy of an answer but, the most obvious response would be a mirage... Which would mean the painting of the dead man with sand in his mouth would be the obvious choice... However, that seems a bit too simple." He sighed once more and sat down in a cross legged position. His eyes closed as he began running more computations in his head in hopes of finding another logical answer.

Beyond that, he also wanted to let the others awaken and come up with possible thoughts that might open up paths of thought that he had yet to consider. He was an intellectual, and that was just what this group would need in this situation. Now he just had to use that gift to his advantage.

After waking up, Ura's eyes quickly adjusted to the sight. There were couple more people in the room with him. Taking note of each one Ura engraved their looks and then further looked around the room at the murals. This part of the exam was completely new, however Ura was never an outstanding genius nor proficient in solving riddles hence he decided to instead aid his temporarily comrades. It was clearly getting warmer by the minute. Ur was pretty used to high temperatures being from Sunagakure however the other may have not. He listened to the others without making any additional comments after all, there was no need for him to speak unless he was saying something helpful.

Realizing he didn't have much chance of solving the riddle himself without spending a good amount of time on it, Ura created large fans out of iron sand and moved them around towards his temporary teammates and fanning them heavily to create a cool breeze. It was especially so for the shinobi wearing a headband with rocks on it. He seemed like a smart enough one hence keeping him in top condition was necessary. It would temporarily lower the temperature however for how long?

"Are you certain it's that one?" Ura asked the yellow haired individual. He was right, the riddle was after all too easy, however it was only the beginning to weed out the less intelligent ones. Ura wasn't used to relying on others however he wasn't conceited enough to think he can do it himself.

"There are four murals... and four of us... but that could be a coincidence?" he added trying to help the smarty.

With Life There Is Always Another Chance

In The Light There Is Always Darkness

The Chunin Exams. There to make her Village proud, but most of all to make her mentor and her clan proud. Masahiro Kirei had encouraged her to train and test herself, now here was the final test to gain that next level. The first grouping of all those who entered the exams had begun uneventful. Moderators of a higher rank who held themselves as such were just what Kaiya expected. Honor was paid to both if she were ever confronted. And no doubt Akio was nearby. Friend and fellow shinobi of Yukigakure. Instructions were given and the farewell in the room was quite… strange. Perhaps she should have been more ready for it. Gas knocked out the shinobi in the room and they would assuredly awaken somewhere else.

Another room. No surprise. Awakening groggily from gas and attempting to rid it from her system, child would sit up with armor lightly clanking. Light but effective enough for its use, the girl looked about her surroundings. Four other shinobi were with her and each one male. Much to her disappointment, Akio wasn’t present. Things moved quickly within the little room, or more specifically, the other youths moved a lot. The scroll had been promptly knocked over with Kaiya finding a shot of cold fear running through her. Did people often touch that which they knew nothing about?

Thankfully, nothing happened. The boy held it up, displaying the words to the room. Kaiya was on her feet by this point, also checking her personal inventory to make sure that she had everything on her person that started there… The scroll was snatched, thankfully the girl gaining most of the words from the scroll to get an understanding. Then.. to observe. The girl moving to each wall and door. Inspecting, running a hand over the marked surface. Four different scenes. Two main stories. One main cause of death. Thoughtful, though not overly a genius herself, the girl would be silent much like the silver haired boy.

Their words rang through the room. The guess to the door depicting an oasis mirage with water coming from the mouth. Possible… It was water appealing. Kaiya couldn’t help but feel unnerved by those metal fans… Her own seal at the ready, a faint glow to the marking on her hand, she would be prepared if this student should turn on her. This was an exam. Perhaps extraction could be taken too literally.

"Five of us.”

The girl would quietly correct, returning to that mural with sand. The question lingered on her lips yet never left. The silent female, one who cooed and awaited those with patience and understanding. They should act, both of those who spoke seemed to want to. Whether it be that one door or those four. Yet.. she had no real words to help. She found herself agreeing with the single door chosen to match the riddle though. It crossed her mind to agree. Yet she wasn’t sure. No need to sway minds into believing her.

THe rest of the group had woken up and a few were taking a good look at the riddle and their options to take in this situation. Although none of them seemed to really want to take a step forward to see if they were right or not. Tetsuya couldn't really blame them, after how this exam started he was a little bit anxious to really move forward. He's head of people dying in these things after all. Still...they had to move forward otherwise they'd all fail right? "Well...if its so simple...maybe that's the point?" He spoke up as he walked over to the door depicting the merchant finding a drink and dying with sand in his mouth.

"Maybe its that way to throw us off. You'd do the same thing right?" He told them as he reached for the door with such a story on it and pulled on it. Even if it was a trap...he was probably certain he could get out of it due to some...special help from within. Even if he didn't want to show it off in front of all these strangers.

Hmmm, looks like we got someone here thats got their head on straight.

The blonde haired guy seemed to have everything all figured out, or at best he had a pretty good guest as to what door would lead them out of here. Out of all the murals drawn on the doors only one of them seem to have an obvious connection to the riddle, but as stated previously that would have made this portion of the exams all too easy. As it stood Sanosuke imagined that through each of these doors might lead them through some sort of tunnel in which they had to go through elaborate traps in order to make it to the next rounds. However, his premature thinking might have been a little too over the top because as it stood everything about this round seemed to revolve around this one room. If that was the case then the exit must simply be on the other side of the door. The Takeda momentarily halted his thinking in favor of paying attention to the actions of the other candidates in the room so that he might not of missed anything else important being mentioned.

After a short response from the boy with white hair it appeared as though the possibility of everyone leaning toward the answer from the second guy was likely. In the meantime as he pondered over all the information provided to them he'd walk over to the door to the located to the west. "If I was wrong about how I perceived the events of this round to go then.... I should be able to see on the other side of these doors." After briefly examining the mural on the west door veins begin to erupt from the eyes of the Takeda. His eyes color turning from his usual brown color into a more lavender-ish color. Transforming into the Doujutsu known from all over as the Byakugan. Although, his Byakugans appearance somewhat differed than that of his ancestors. A Red ring appeared on the outside of his pupils Iris in what his mother explained was probably nothing more than a slight altering created from his Takeda DNA. Nonetheless, The Takeda begin to use his eyes to examine what was on the other side of the west door.

"Now, all I have to do now use process of elimination."

After examining what was on that door he'd make his way to the door located to the north of the room. The goal was to see how different each of the exits were from the previous. Based on what was on the side of each door Sanosuke could make an accurate calculation as to what room had the real exit. As it stood this room was beginning to really heat up, and something told him that it was like this for a reason. If they stayed in here for too long their was no telling what could happen to them. After all, this was a timed event. So he needed to hurry the hell up with his examination before everyone agreed to which door they were going to open. "Alright, two down, two more to go." If anyone had anything to say to him based on what he was doing should they have noticed his small transformation he would gladly answer whatever questions they might have. For now he was headed to the east door where he'd use his eyes to examine what was on the other side of that door. As it stood his range with his Byakugan was relatively inferior to that of his mothers. But for this experiment all he needed was enough to see through these door.

After examining the other three doors Sanosuke begin to head down toward the south door that everyone believed to be the door they needed to get out of here, but after everything he saw so far he wasn't ready to buy into that door being correct just yet. As he'd done for the others he intended to check that door as well. "Wait!!" The Takeda exclaimed before rushing full speed to the door in just enough time to halt the actions of the kid getting ready to open the door by pushing his right arm against it. "Phew... Made it just in time.." Before explaining why he stopped the kid from opening the door the Takeda took a peek into the kids chakra network. Wow.. Uh, maybe I'm still new with this, but his looks totally different than anyone else I've ever examined. An awkward paused existed briefly between the two of them before he'd finally explain himself. "Long story short... I got eyes that can see through stuff, and after looking through the other doors I intend to check this one so I can more accurately confirm which exit is the real one."

Ryuu sighed as he continued to sit and think. His mind was racing at top speed as he tried to break down the riddle beyond what he already had. The longer he sat, however, the more certain he became of his original deduction. Still seated on the floor he felt a bead of sweat roll down his forehead and his eyes slowly opened. He looked at the boy who was attempting to use his "eye" to see through the doors but he had a feeling that the proctors of the exams would have thought about that and attempted to counter any sort of vision abilities. Though, in the same token, using all of a shinobi's abilities were also key to the exam.

The blonde haired boy slowly stood to his feet and rolled his shoulders. Looking about the group he walked over to the door with the mirage of water and looked at the mural once more. "The longer we take to come to a conclusion, the hotter it will get in here until we cannot handle it. We do not have the time to investigate each door deeply. The most logical answer is this mural and as such I believe we should try it. If we are wrong, we will adapt and overcome as we are trained to do. If we are right, however, we get one step further on our roads to the goal of Chuunin."

With the words spoken he turned to face all of the others nodding once before turning back to the mural he'd selected. "We either do this now, or we risk waisting valuable time... And as it stands we do not full know how much time we may have. While I, for one, would rather have more data to go on, we simply do not have that luxary and must use what little information we are given. Those who are of the same mind as me, join me here... Any opposed, you may step to the other side of the room. Which ever has more of us, shall be the path we take." The boy had made his decleration and had attempted to get the group more focused on the task at hand. As it stood, he seemed the best suited for this portion of the exam and he would do his best to try and get them onto the next stage.

The room was getting warmer by the second and while the other genin began to try and rush things, Ura stayed calm. Heat was something he was fairly used to so for now it wasn't really that annoying. The others however were not from Sunagakure hence their resistance may have been a little weaker.

Ura began quickly walking from door to door observing it more carefully, try and see if any metallic objects were situated past the walls. He would be able to feel some kind of magnetic resonance if there was. Upon inspecting everything carefully to see if there was any way find out whats on the other side, he came up with an idea.

"I think we should go with your door, open it a little at the time and I can use my ability to block off the passage in case anything is to jump out or shoot out at us?" Ura simply said creating a large rectangular solid piece of Iron Sand in front of the door the more intelligent genin pointed out.

"That way even if we get the wrong door, we can always block off whatever the punishment would be right?." He simply stated getting ready to go with the plan.

Temperature steadily grew higher. And while Kaiya may not have ultimately noticed right away under normal circumstances, her attire did nothing to benefit her. Bodysuit beneath armor was great for trapping heat! If one was in the middle of a snowy wasteland. They were not. Her focus still to the seal on her hand, she’d wait and listen to the others. There was the slightest pang of guilt from her correcting the other genin. Thankfully, nothing came of it. Her innocence and thoughtfulness could life on peacefully.

It seemed most everyone wanted action, but wanted to check for things first. Kaiya… felt anxious. While she understood the need to gather more information, she thought this was all taking too much time. She was more inclined to agree with the odd looking child that looked nearer her age than these others. Best to take action and deal with it. They weren’t figuring out the riddle. And they had already wasted time, why now were they all thinking of time eating plans?

Still, Kaiya wouldn’t voice her concerns. Letting two of the boys dance around the room in order to find what they might be looking for, the odd one blocked off, and the blonde one making them do some weird splitting game… Whoever opposed, get away from him. It was… all very peculiar. But in the end, small blonde child would gravitate towards the door that depicted the mural and choice she thought to be correct. Near, seal at the ready, but not opening the door. She didn’t want to upset the rest of the lads by acting too rashly. They all had an idea to lead, or so it would seem. Kaiya could follow plenty easily if she needed to. Now was a time she needed to…

Silence and waiting. Nothing much to add there other than quiet confirmation for all of the boys.

The Takeda in his examination would notice that all the rooms beyond the door had the same design as the one the group found themselves in with the only difference being that the murals on the walls of the closed of rooms would appear blurred to his eyes. As for the suna shinobi he would not be able to feel the magnetic draw from any of the chambers but if he was keen he would be able to sense less burden on the controlling of his iron sand the nearer it was to the south wall despite the ever-increasing temperature of the room.

He was pulled away from opening the door and was now just standing there watching everyone else try to solve this riddle with their own gifts. It made him feel hot and bothered. Although that might very well be the temperature in the room, something that caused even him to sweat and tug at his shirt to puff a bit of air into his face. It was not this hot before now was it? Maybe he should have worn something a little more breathable and light.

"Um...guys? Can...can we hurry up? Its getting real stuffy in here." The Taki genin decided to state as he walked along the side of the doors, inspecting each mural as he walked passed them. "Did you guys figure out anything? I don't think they'll let us just sit here for long...it is a test." He tried not to sound too upset at their situation but the heat was seriously getting to him, well to the parasite inside of him at least. It was never bothered by anything before but the stress of the situation he found himself in might have made it more susceptible. Who knows.

The Takeda could see that everyone was slowly but surely starting to get bothered by this riddle, and the heat. Sanosuke felt bad for stopping the kid from opening the door, but he felt it was important that he was able to tell them something about what they would find behind these doors. As it stood it appeared as though none of the doors actually allowed them to exit these "dungeons." At least thats what he begin to think of this place as. "Sorry if I looked like an ass for stopping you Kid. The names Sanosuke by the way. I feel it'd be weird to refer to you in such a manner without at least knowing my name.." Before he said anything else he wanted to set some sort of positive tone. Nobody in here had to be friends, but they all needed to build some sort of camaraderie if they wanted to get out of these rooms and into the next round. "Alright, now to get to the point of all this. On the other side of all these doors are the same thing. Same set up and everything. So in other words the other side to one of these doors does nothing more than provide more clues to how to get out."

Sanosuke tried thinking of anything else he might have noticed before he let everyone else have the floor for a moment. "Unfortunately, my eyes weren't strong enough to spot the writings and drawings on the wall, but I think this clue should be good enough for you smart guys out here to figure things out. Didn't mean for us to cause some sort of division, just felt like It'd be smart to know what were up against. Either way we got to make a decision now or were toast.... Literally. So I'm for whoever has the strongest feeling. As of now I don't know which door is the one." From here on out the Takeda remained quiet. If need be he would go with what he felt was the hot hand. The rules didn't state anything about everyone having to leave together, but he'd prefer everyone got on the same page. After all, he was sure that everyone here wanted to get promoted. No one wanted to be kicked out during the first round, especially because of some silly riddle. That'd leave a bad taste in his mouth for sure.
