Carefully he began the last touches on the present, packing the fishing rod into a austere wrapping of the gift and its container, knowing that she would appreciate it, finding it rather appealing over any form of ostentatious show of affection. He had noticed that of the young Uchiha, the fact that she seemed to prefer the simple things of life as well as an appreciation that came with silence. Satisfied with what he had prepared he would raise from his desk and take a hold of the the bag with the few belonging that he had prepared for the small trip that he had promised the girl as a celebration of the conclusion of the exams. He placed a handwritten note for Miho indicating him where he was and when he would return on the night table and then departed.

The village somehow seemed more alive than he had remembered. He supposed that the cold that the people of Yuki lived in had made him appreciate it more his hometown and in the process felt a greater resolve when it came to protect it and revere it. The Senju had high hopes that his apprentice would learn and cherish those values, specially when she began to saw that Uchiha, Senju, Hyuga, Yamanaka, indeed all of the members that didn't claim a noble birthright shared the same belief. Albeit not by blood, they were all a family that would squabble but that would nonetheless be there for reach other.

As he entered the Uchiha compound, finding himself the object of curious and surprised looks as they noticed the head of their great historical rivals, he would go to the house of Hiruko, following an already memorized path until he reached to the door and knocked, awaiting for either Hiruko or Kazui to open the door up.

Don’t just weather the storm.
Dance in it.

It was nice being back home, the birds chirping and the wind blowed and everything just seemed so vibrant, warm, and full of life unlike Yuki no Kuni. Seeing the wintery wonderland was fun of course, and winter was the girls favorite time of the year, but constantly having to live it in and see nothing but snow day after day things began to grow dull and it just wasn’t as fun as she normally enjoyed the very occasional snowfall in Hi no Kuni.

Everything was quiet as she moved as quickly as she could, gathering everything she would need for the trip, double checking the bag just in case. Her hand trembled ever so slightly as she tried to do simple tasks such as putting on her shoes. The girl’s arms were wrapped generously with bandages that covered the burns that she had sustained in the final fight of the exams. Luckily it wasn’t too bad and she should make a full recovery in the next week or so.

As she shrugged off the pain a knock at the door would draw her attention. With Hiruko being out and about doing Hanchō things as she normally was, Kazui would answer. "Just a moment!” Her soft voice spoke out to the point where it was just barely able to be heard on the other side of the door. A couple hops and skips would carry her to the door as she unlocked and just barely opened it, slightly sticking her head out only to see her beloved mentor standing there.

"Oh hi Kazuto-sama…” Kazui started softly before opening the door all the way, noticing the gift he held in his hand before anything else. A smile would grow on her face as she knew it was for her, since the man did promise he would get her something once the exams concluded. It was good to see that he kept his word. "That’s for me isn’t it?” She said as she tried to conceal the smile curling around her lips.

"What? This?" He said as his eyes shifted towards the envelope in his hands as he presented it to her, snatching it away just before his apprentice could get a hold of it. "Oh no, this is for the other young girl that lives in the house with you and Hiruko, same height, same hair style as you. Much less stubborn." He said as he would curl his own lips into a smile, hoping that she would appreciate the attempt of a joke before he eased his tone and handed out the present. "Of course it is for you. Here, take it." He would say as he crossed his arms and would take a look at the young Uchiha opening the package.

He wasn't quite sure if she would like the present or not. After all he didn't know many girls that would like to have a fishing rod for a present, but he was sure that Kazui would understand what the gift meant, after all he had made her a promise to go and do a camping trip after the exams in which he would teach her to fish. And well, perhaps this would mean that they would bond more beyond the realm of training and advise. He couldn't remember the last time that he had spent camping that didn't involve him being on a mission. He guessed that it would be a good opportunity for both of them.

Still, his sight moved to the arm and the bandages from the wounds and he wondered if that was a good idea. Burns were nasty things to take care off and the last thing he wanted was for them to get infected, even if he could do some first aid. "How are your burns? Do they still hurt?" He asked with some concern in his tone.

It was always nice to see Kazuto around, though his personality wasn’t the most extravagant, there was just something about his kindness towards her that always made her feel better. Nevertheless, Kazui would lean against the frame of the door, her arms folded across one another as if she were hugging herself, but in actuality the girl was trying to ease the pain. Yet on her face there was no signs of trouble, in fact she smiled from ear to ear as Kazuto pulled the gift back and said it was for someone else who ironically looked exactly like the girl herself. A soft chuckle would escape her breath as she rolled her eyes ever so slightly.

"Oh har har...someone has some jokes today.” Kazui said in a jokingly sarcastic tone as she held the gift within her grasp, holding it snuggly to her body before she began to unwrap it. "Hmm.” The girl hummed softly as she peeled the gift wrap off and saw the contents of the present. A wooden fishing rod, clearly handcrafted to nigh perfection. It was beautiful and much better than the cheap one she bought from the thrift shop not too long ago. Dark hues shifted over the polished wooden construct, taking in all the detail that would normally go unnoticed by most, but to Kazui she cared more so about the thought than the actual gift itself.

There was once a time where the girl received absolutely nothing as a gift or a present. Quickly heading towards her 15th birthday, she can’t recall ever getting anything, in fact she remembers the first gift that was ever handed to her, which was a blue coat and tabi boots that Yusaku had bought for her. While it wasn’t exactly something she would have wanted, the thought alone made her break down in tears.

"Wow. Did you make this?” She asked softly, a smile curling on her lips as she couldn’t exactly look away from the fishing rod. "Thank you, Master Kazuto.” As she continued to admire the gift, a question would be asked pertaining to her injuries. Kazui would shrug her shoulders as she looked over her hands and arms. Of course they still hurt, but not as bad as before. She could tell that the Senju was concerned however so she would provide an answer that would put his worries at ease.

"Maybe just a bit, but it’ll take more than a few cuts and burns to stop me.” The girl explained with a smile.

"Yes." The Senju explained after she had asked whether or not it had been something he had crafted on his own. Of course he had the raw materials for he could create what he needed. The rest such as the line, the hook and sinker he had to but and and he had used the same type of line that he had used for his own fishing rod. "I made it out of a pliable wood, so the line has a good tension ratio and it bends without breaking when you hook a fish that might be heavy." He explained. Surely all what he had said didn't make much sense to her, but he was sure that a more practical explanation would serve her better.

"Well... I sure can't hope to stop you." The Senju said with a shrug, knowing that the girl had taken many traits from him during her apprenticeship, more prominent of all being his own drive and stubbornness. "Well, if you think you're fine I guess we can take that camping trip I promised you." He said as he placed his hand over her shoulder, accepting that she would come whether or not he told her not to. "Well, go get your things. And don't forget your medicine... Miho'll kill me if we got your burns infected." He said with a joke as he leaned against the frame of the door and awaited for Kazui to return.

Having brought everything that he needed in the knapsack that he had taken with him from the Senju Clan compound, he would kneel next to the container, doublechecking everything that he had packed, two changes of clothing, a cloak, a knife, rope, first aid kit including antiseptic, spare rations in case they couldn't fish or forage for any of food and lastly a black sleeping bag that he had used during missions. "Ready?" He asked once the girl would return.

A smile curled on her lips as she listened to the steps Kazuto had taken to make the fishing rod as well as everything that every part was needed for. It was great quality, and Kazui would say maybe one day when his shinobi career is all said and done, Kazuto could spend the rest of his days creating amazing things that many people would want. "Awesome.” Kazui spoke softly as she continued to inspect the fishing rod. She had done a bit of studying while she was in the hospital the last few days, so everything that the Senju explained made sense to some degree and the girl wasn’t completely lost on the subject.

Nevertheless, she would set the fishing rod resting against the wall inside her home. Smiling at her mentor’s words, Kazui would shrug ever so slightly. She knew that she was stubborn when it came to things like this, she refused to be held down and it was one part Kazuto’s fault and one part because of how she grew up. She had a lot of heart and that was easy to tell. "Heh, alright I’ll double check to make sure.” She said as she turned on her heel and pranced deeper into the house.

Once she reached her room, the girl would grab a hold of the black bag in which she had used to pack up all her belongings. Unzipping every compartment and checking to make sure she had everything, the girl would find all of her stuff in place, from the clothes she packed to the sleeping bag and her pocket knife. Once she confirmed that all was packed, she made her way back towards the door with a light jog. "Alright I’m ready to go.” She said as she held the pack over one of her shoulders, her opposite arm would reach to close the door behind her as she stepped out into the elements, a cool breeze of wind passing them by.

Kazui was sort of excited for everything they had planned, she had never been camping before and honestly it seemed like something she would enjoy.

"Alright then." He said after she returned and led the way. Leaving the Uchiha compound behind and then traversing through the main byway of the village they would soon find themselves into the wilderness as the forests would begin to greet them, and then the rivers and fauna, two kits followed by an older fox would follow a hare into the bushes and out of sight, finally the two would reach the bank of a lake, dropping his back in that threshold between in which sand and grass met almost seamlessly he would turn towards Kazui. "Well, start gathering some firewood. I'll put the camp up." He would ask his student.

As Kazui would leave to do her task, certainly wondering why he didn't just create the wood himself since it was part of his abilities, he would begin to put the camp of, unpacking the individual tents and using stakes to keep them in the ground as well as leaving the bags they had brought with them inside. Leaving the tents behind he would begin to dig the small hole that would comprise the firepit, adding sand and pebbles and stones to be the layer on which the flames and their fuel would burn. Satisfied he would go to the shore and retrieve a measure of water to boil later, leaving it next to his tent.

Before, he had found a stump of wood and would begin to assemble his fishing rod and from a container he would begin to pick up some of the live bait in the form of worms, but decided that this was something that he should teach Kazui when she returned. After all fishing was as skill that required some intuition and practice. Looking at the line of his own fishing rod he nodded and awaited for her student to return, until he heard the sound of firewood being next to the firepit. "Took you long enough." He told the girl. "Come here, let's begin fishing." He told her as he signaled another wooden stump next to his.

"Okay.” She voiced softly beneath her breath as she adjusted the strap on her shoulder and began following alongside the jonin. From there the two would exit the Uchiha compound side by side and started making their way into the forests, trees bushes and other greenery was all that the two saw as they charted the land of the wilderness. Kazui remained silent the entire way, seeing no reason to speak, instead her focus was drawn towards the wildlife as the sightings of numerous animals seemed to capture her interest. Her expression remained solemn, yet her eyes lit up at the sight of the foxes and the hare, as well as the hawk that soared overhead, letting his presence be known to all in the area. Deep inside the girl "oohed” and "ahhed” at everything the wilderness had to offer, it was nice to get away from the town every so often.

Once they reached their desired location, just a ways off from the shore of a lake, Kazui would set her backpack down beside Kazuto’s before her arms would reach for the clouds, stretching out for a brief moment before the jonin asked her to begin gathering firewood. "Okay..” The girl spoke gently, "I’ll be right back.” Heading back towards the trees and into the forest, the girl would begin collecting twigs branches and other dry pieces of wood and brush, tying them all together to make it easier for her to transport back to the campsite. As for why she was collecting firewood when she was with a Senju, Kazui was smart enough to know the reason why. This was her first time doing something like this so of course it wouldn’t be the best idea to take the easy road when one is trying to learn.

Nevertheless she made her way back, the tents were set up and Kazuto was setting up his fishing rod. Kazui placed all of the gathered material into the pit where the fire would burn, that’s when she heard Kazuto speak. - Took you long enough - The words seemed all too familiar. Spoken much like her father’s whenever she did something wrong or didn’t do it adequately enough. A sigh would push past her lips as she fixed them together, creating a vibrating effect that was a clear sign of her frustration. It would be followed by an inhale and an exhale as she grabbed a seat beside Kazuto. Instead of letting the thoughts get to her, the teen would just joke back in return. "Sorry, there was a long line at the firewood store.” She spoke in a soft yet bland tone, yet it wasn’t too difficult to tell that she was joking instead of being a smart ass.

Adjusting the army green bucket hat to keep the sun from out of her eyes, Kazui would begin setting everything up, baiting her line and looking over towards the Senju to make sure she was doing everything right. "How’s that?” She asked softly, hoping that she was in the clear.

"Relax." Kazuto replied with a chuckle at her reply wishing to dispel any sense of censure that would've come from his word. As he would bait impale the bait into the hook and the girl would sit next to him he would swing his arm back and then forward, allowing the line move forward, the bait, hook and sinker flying at the very least twenty feet until it would land with a plop until the sinker would surface and bobble in the surface of the laker before he watched his apprentice to the same thing after she had asked him if that was alright. "Yeah." He said with an approving nod. "Now, what you want to do is slowly reel it back in, fish reach better to 'living' prey." He said as he would begin to do as he preached.

Quietly, he would focus again on what he was doing, stopping and then resuming to reel the line back. He didn't expect for the fish to take a first bite on the first line he tossed. It was rare that they did, and when they did it was likely more to do with luck rather than anything else. He would take a look at Kazui and clear his throat. "So, did Hiruko congratulated you for the exams?" The Senju asked. As sure as he knew that he was proud of the girl next to him, he was sure that Hiruko was of her foster daughter. Surely her would knew that the feature of a clan as noble as the Uchiha would rest on the shoulders of Kazui, as well as the future of the village would.

"Sans the souvenir, you did much better than I expected." He told her reassuringly. In fact she had exceeded her expectations in almost every way. He felt pride out of that, that she had done so well and as he had always said the quality of the apprentice often was a reflection on the quality of the teacher. As he opened his mouth to say something he would feel a tug in his line, pressing lips together as he would begin to reel the line back, fighting with the fish as the rod would bend and his feet would dig solidly on the ground, the fish emerging to the surface of the water as it struggled with all its might before the Senju would pull one last time and the fish flapped in the air. "Huh... Not bad, a trout." He said as he unhooked the fish and would then slap it against a stone, humanely killing it before tossing it to a basket.

A smirk grew on her lips as Kazuto responded to what she had to say. His chuckles would make her smile as she grabbed a seat beside him and began to somewhat copy everything the man did, and once he gave her the okay, she would continue on. Hooking the bait onto the hook, bringing her hands back over her shoulder before swinging them out again, causing the reel and line of the fishing rod to go flying out towards the water. The sinker plopping down into the water for a moment before floating on top of the water. Listening to the Senju’s words, Kazui would nod her head slightly as she began to copy him again. "Hai..” She voiced as she began to reel the line in slowly.

"Hmm. So this makes it seem like the bait is still alive?” She didn’t know much about fish, so the girl had no clue prior to this trip that the fish actually preferred to have live bait rather than dead bait. It was useful information, and maybe perhaps it was the reason she could never catch anything on her own. However, even with this new found knowledge, there still had to be some patience in the one who was trying to fish as it was more of a waiting game than anything. So that’s what the girl did, she waited and waited. Crossing her legs at the ankles as she stretched out, her hands held onto the fishing rod securely just in case she were to get a bite.

Nevertheless, Kazuto would clear his throat and go on to ask her about Hiruko and if the woman congratulated her on passing the exams. Turning her head and looking upwards a bit so that she could see past the brim of her bucket hat, she would shrug her shoulders slightly before returning her eyes onto the still water. "Yeah, she did.” The girl started quietly, "But a lot of people didn’t, which is alright.” She didn’t care about being congratulated or gifted for her success, she was used to succeeding without them, but of course having someone say that they were proud of her was always a boost to her morale.

"Thanks.” The girl said, smiling as her eyes remained focused on the water. "You know...even if we don’t catch anything, that’ll be fine. It’s still fun to learn from you.” She had somewhat returned the thanks back towards the Senju, because of course he taught her the most valuable lessons, and believed in her when no one else did. The trip was less about her learning how to fish, and more so spending time with a person she truly cared for. As she said that however, Kazuto would begin to reel his line in, fighting with whatever creature was at the other end of the line.

The man pulled back and eventually yanked the fish from the water. Laughter escaped from the girl as she watched Kazuto hold the fish up high. He had managed to catch one, but still there was nothing on Kazui’s line, which was alright, at the moment she was more interested in Kazuto’s catch rather than her own. It was only a matter of time before she got a bite as well.

"Well, doesn't matter if many people congratulated you, what matters is the few people who matter did." He told her reassuringly. He had once heard that you couldn't choose family and in a way he would agree. Although the bonds he had made with people that weren't related to him by blood seemed to be stronger than with most of his family. A thin smile appeared for a second before he would chuckle and then he'd look at her after considering the statement that even if they didn't caught anything this would be a good time spent with him, no training, just the two of them outside the realm of teacher and student.

"So long you have fun, I brought some protein bars, but you'd prefer to find some fish." He said as he would put in another bait and with a flick of his wrist as the line would fly and the sinker would plop unto the smooth surface of the lake and slowly reel in towards him. "They're the same ration bars they give us, and unfortunately they taste like cardboard." He joked, releasing a soft chuckle about him before he would look at the girl again. Well not so much of a girl now that she was close to the threshold of turning fifteen.

Allowing silence to settle as they would continue to fish. Kazuto would look down for a second and release a soft breath. To say that he was fond of Kazui would be an understatement. But he would be lying to himself if he didn't see her more like just a simple student. Even like a little sister, even despite that the enmity their clans had for so long. "I'm proud of you Kazui." He said as he would place a hand on her shoulder. "And I can't tell you how blessed I'm that you're in my life." He told her, honestly, wondering how she would've react. "Perhaps is too selfish to say this... But you gave me a second chance of being a teacher and maybe, even a brother."

Kazui would chuckle gently beneath her breath as her eyes remained fixed on the water. Well of course she wanted fish, but mostly for the sole purpose of saying she herself had actually caught it. As for the ration bars, the young Uchiha wasn’t too fond of them, but she knew that if she had to eat them she would. Fingers crossed that she wouldn’t have to though.

"They can’t make those things more edible?”

She asked Kazuto jokingly to help lighten the mood even more. Nevertheless, the girl would sit up straight as she held the fishing rod firmly in her hands, still slowly reeling the line in as to make it seem as if the bait was still alive. She was in her zone for the most part, that is until Kazuto’s voice spoke out to her.

He was proud of her? The man had told her this numerous times before, but it felt as if it was the very first time, a smile growing on the girl’s face from ear to ear. This was more than a simple "good job, I’m proud.” Kazuto was telling the girl just how much she meant to him, that he was thankful for having her in his life, and for giving him a second chance.

Kazui would simply shrug her shoulders, her eyes still fixed on the water as her smile slowly faded.

"Well I have to thank you for believing in me when no one else did.” The girl started, "If you would’ve decided not to train me, then I don’t know where I would be right now, probably still in the academy.” Kazui said, stifling a soft laugh as she felt a tug on her line.

"Woah, I think I got one!” The girl rose from her seat and began to reel the line in as best as she could.

"Doubtful." Kazuto would reply with a chuckle. As far as he had known, the ration bars that had been given to the shinobi on the field were as tasteful as wet cardboard. From time to time there had been different flavors and blends but they had all being short lived for they did were a marginal improvement over the normal rations, and well even those that were given to ANBU weren't exactly much better to the ones that were given to the regular troops. "Who knows? Miho becomes a Chunin Officer and she has input on the rations." He offered, although to be honest he wasn't sure if that was something that would come with the new rank that his soon to be wife would have.

But before any words could come out of his mouth, he would turn his eyes his apprentice as she would exclaim that something had bitten the bait and as such the he would raise and stand behind her as he would see the rod bend at the strain of the animal that pulled to get the morsel of food and itself free from the hook. "Alright." The Senju would say as he placed his hand on Kazui's shoulder. "Now, slowly try to reel it. Bring elbows close to your body and slowly try to pull it when you see it on fighting on the surface the pull with the rod."

It was perhaps in the best way that he could explain it, fishing wasn't something that he had being taught by someone, rather it was something he had picked up from books and was better at instructing by showing. When he saw the crest of the trout, skimming the surface, Kazuto would point at it. "Now Kazui, pull!" He said as he would allow her to do this on her own, stepping back and crossing his arms before his chest. "Careful with the pull, don't want to snap the line or break the rod." He adviced.

Don’t just weather the storm.
Dance in it.

As the girl stood up to her feet, she could feel the Senju’s presence as he shifted slightly behind her and watched as she began to reel the line in. Tucking her elbows snuggly to her side as he placed a hand on her shoulder, the girl would take in a deep breath as she started to reel slowly, the line being pulled back towards the rod with every rotation that the handle took. Part of her wanted to reel as fast as she could, mostly because it seemed natural to meet the fish with equal force, but since Kazuto said otherwise then she would refrain from doing so.

She would pull the rod back slightly girly as she continued to reel, a smile breaking the concentrated look on her face as she spoke.

"Why is he so strong?”

It was a rhetorical question but the girl still thought it was funny. Nevertheless she continued to reel and pull on the fishing rod to get leverage over the little fighter. It was fun doing so, but she soon got the advantage and when the fish finally began to emerge from the lake’s surface, Kazui would pull the line again to yank the little guy out of the water.

With the trout on the line, she would watch as it hung from the hook. "Yes!” She said excitedly as she looked to remove it from the hook. "How was that?” She asked her mentor. "I’d say that was a ten out of ten.” The girl joked.

"Nicely done." The Senju replied with a proud look on settling on his features. He crossed his arms before as she held the fish in her hands after she had removed it from the hook. "Eh, Eight and a Half out of Ten. The fish made you struggle." He said with a smile as he would point to the basket for her to put the fish in, they would have time to clean it later, so at the moment he thought it best if the relaxed. "I will be sure to send your first catch to the international fishing board, they will surely be impressed." He said as would resume fishing slowly reeling the line back, trying his best to lure a fish.

"Pardon for bad jokes." He would offer to his apprentice. "Good thing I'm not looking for a career change, I fear I would have a hard time to eat with the quality of my material." Even when he had been told that his humor wasn't terrible, but rather dry and dead pan when he fathomed to actually make a joke. At the very least he was sure that Kazui would be appreciative of the intention, at the very least by him just trying. As they would continue fishing, Kazuto managed to catch two more, placing them with care in the basket before turning to the young Uchiha again.

"So... has Miho planned something for her bachelor party?" The Senju asked, somewhat curious of what his wife to be had considered to do, as well if his student had been asked to go, specially since the two have come as close as sisters could be. "Or is it a big secret you can't spare to tell me after having sworn secrecy to Miho?" He would suggest with an amused tone, although he imagines it would be something rather quiet, after all, the Miho he knew wasn't exactly the soul of the party.
