Konsho put down his pen, sighing heavily as the more pressing stress faded. He had spent the last few minutes on the written part of the graduation exam. Basic math and geometry skills, as well as an understanding of momentum and combat. Unbeknownst to Konsho, this was rather advanced information for an academy student to be learning. But to Konsho, these were the first things he learned in the human world. To him they were supposed to be basic... so the fact that it had taken almost ten years was a disgrace he had to live with for the rest of his life.
[break][break]
Most children, whom had no idea how chakra even worked until they were a few years into the academy, had graduated by 12. Here he was at sixteen, only NOW ready to actually take the test, despite having known about chakra all his life. He spent literal years on the most basic of academy jutsu. Even the children of the gorillas could pull off more complex jutsu than he could. But those thoughts weren't helping, even if they were popping up every few minutes. At least now the first part, the easier part was over, and stress of actually doing it was gone.
[break][break]
Still... the fear of the second part, proving he knew and could preform the ninjutsu he was tasked with learning... was anxiety inducing. He had spent years upon years on these... it should be easy. The chances of him failing were so small. After all, after he preformed the ninjutsu, it was as simple as a physical test he knew he would pass. He was a natural hunter, having been raised to be one when he lived with the apes. But there was that chance. The chance that he'd fail at the most complex part. That was the source of the building dread. One that, once he finally was forced to interact with, would envelop him and make the entire exam an uncomfortable ordeal. But for now... he could ignore it.

"Konsho....Enter the room down the hall to the right..your proctors will be waiting for you there.."

A voice would call out for the boy to follow, the instructions clear as the three seated instructors would be waiting for him. They had seen many individuals come and go from these halls. Some became reliable shinobi, loyal to the duty of defending their homes. Others were reckless and were shamed in the end. But, it all started from this point, this was were the first signs of any wrongs or misjudgment on the part of the teachers or students could be seen.

For it was one thing to know the techniques that could save one's life or that of their teammates, it was another to be able to implement them upon the field. While such practice would come from experience over time, the last thing they wished to do was send a fresh Genin out, only for them to fumble upon a ninjutsu and end up dead.

As they saw the approach of Konsho, the three would rise up, the oldest of the trio clearing their throat. From there, he would speak in a voice that seemed to demand attention, ringing from one side of the room to the next.

"Konosho...."

"Sir...it's Konsho..."

A whisper from their youngest colleague would correct the man, clearing his throat once more as he began again.

"Konsho! You have passed the written exam portion of the exams and have now been called to complete the next part. This will be your test of your understanding and physical application of the techniques you have learned within the academy. If you demonstrate proper control and usage, you will be granted the rank of Genin. But...fail...and you will not...and you will have to attempt the examination all over again, repeating all that you have accomplished, and not be allowed an assignment...are you ready?"

Konsho....Enter the room down the hall to the right..your proctors will be waiting for you there.."

[Break][break]
Well that was short lived. Standing up slowly, he'd politely bow to the academy teacher overseeing this portion of the test. Taking a very deep breath, he'd slowly allow himself to walk into the room. But with each step his own anxiety would rattle through his body, shaking his body as if it was a small ship at sea. This was the final test as far as Konsho was concerned. Everything else, basics and child's play. This… was either success or failure. Obvious? Yes! Horrifying once you consider what that really means? Exceedingly yes!

[Break][break]
His own feelings were starting to physically affect him, he moves with a slight bit more sway than he usually did. He could feel the on coming symptoms of nausea. Every glance he had was one of worry, dilated pupils trying to take in everything. As he entered the room and saw the three instructors he didn't say a word. He recognized them, but he didn't know them personally. He had seen some of them visiting classes, one of them had visited a little more often than the others. He seemed kindly. The other two however he had no real details about. He wondered if any of them even remotely remembered him. The small world child, who can barely talk. Sitting in the corner of the room. Now that he thought of it he wasn't really noteworthy.

[Break][break]
If any of them did, which he doubted, they would certainly see the same kid. Although on closer inspection, they may have noticed a child with a bit more of a hold of himself. He was looking them in the eye, which unbeknownst to Konsho, was something he rarely did before. He was also breathing more steadily, something that he had learned as a method to calm himself down. When he could feel his body, everything was simpler. Though his mouth was dry, and his brain was screaming all the ways from could go wrong, he could feel the tension... Suppressed. Not gone but not ruling him either.
[Break][break]

At the news that he had passed the written exam, as well as the butchering of his name,  Konsho allowed himself to relax a little more. Well at least they didn't have any previous doubts to go off of here, considering one of them didn't even know his name. It was a comfort, if a strange one. But the next part was strange. He was told he would not fail. Was he merely meaning that was not allowed? Or was he allowed multiple attempts? Either way it didn't matter. There was no backing out now. "Yes."

As the boy appeared to have an understanding was what was expected, the proctors would soon enough begin the examination, allowing for the youth to take a moment to collect himself if need be. There were doubts that there were some nerves being rattled, as much to be expected from students preparing to enter the world as shinobi. Still, these were only temporary , as growth would aid in developing such behavior. Of course, those that knew of the child were more than a bit surprised by this more reserved presence by Konsho.

There were little signs of possible failure today, but then, none could say for sure as this was only the start of the test. But, others would consider the change as a good step in the right direction.

"Very well...to start we wish you to demonstrate the Clone technique....Show us your capability and training in this technique and we will proceed to the next task. You will have only opportunity to attempt this, if you can not do so then we will give you a point against your score..."

The command was simple, but the pressure he was being placed under was meant to be a staple. When in combat, you did not get the chance to readily think or prepare. You had to act, often on instinct. If you were unable to perform your techniques with proper focus, you could easily be killed or injured, becoming a burden to others. One had to be able to stand before they could walk as they say, so now came the point where they saw if the apprentice could very well do so on his own.

Clone Technique. Honestly one of the ones he was hoping to do last. That technique alone had taken him years, including the long periods of helplessness and depression causing him to take even longer. Hopefully the fact that it was the freshest in his mind would help rather than hinder him. Konsho's internal world was still a mess of anxiety and self doubt. The nausea symptoms were getting worse, and at this point the room was moving in a way he wasn't used to. Sure he'd had that boat like feeling where the room swayed from side to side, raising and lowering as if attached to some sickly pendulum. Sometimes it even went so fast that it felt more like some cruel giant was shaking the room just to see what happened.
[break][break]
But this was different. The walls stretched, staring at any object that wasn't the floor or ceiling resulted in said object seeming to distort and move away to him. Looking at the floor he stood on or the ceiling above him only added to the anxiety filling his own well. The ceiling pulsed, as if something was trying to... swim it's way through? It wasn't ripples of something hitting the water, but rather something in the water moving. The floor however... it waved. It seemed as if it was both a liquid and somehow alive. As parts sunk and rose it seemed to breath, and as spasms arched throughout it seemed to act as a beating heart. The living nature of it... seemed to be limited to the floor around him though, now that he noticed. Yet it was spreading... slowly. Creeping.
[break][break]
Unbeknownst to Konsho, he had already begun his deep breathing. The firery wave that was his chakra. He could feel it now. All of those things he was feeling were feeding it. It... strangely grounded Konsho. His body was still functioning, it was his mind that was creating all of this. To the academy teachers Konsho would have seemed to stare off for only the briefest of moments, holding in a breath as he formed Ram, Snake, Tiger. Just as he exhaled, a large plume of smoke would encircle him, and in that plume Konsho moved with a visible sway.
[break][break]
As the smoke quickly faded, one would see three versions of Konsho standing in the room. It seemed he chose to create two clones, a fact at that even Konsho seemed confused by. The one on the left was a perfect clone, blue hair, short, singature brown cloak for books, and an ungodly number of bags under his eyes. The second however was... off. Facial structure, form of body, everything about it as far as physique and bodily form was correct. It was the finer details that were off. His hair was this faded shade of blue, rather than Konsho's own rich blue. Rather than the brown coat, he wore a cloak of animal fur, combined with what was effectively a fur kilt. After the wide eyed Konsho took the image in, he quickly slapped the secondary clone away. That outfit looked... familiar though. Where did that clone idea even come from?
[break][break]
Staring back at the examiners, Konsho would hold his breath. He had a strong feeling he messed this part up.

The expectation was for the youth to perform the technique to the best of their ability. While often than not, most would attempt to aim for perfection, in the early stages of the exam, such level of competence was not expected from most. As they looked on at the display, the examiners would see the two duplications on either side of the original, noting that while one was indeed up to standards, the other was certainly...lacking.

Faded blue hair, attire un-matching to their creator...

While Konsho had managed to clap the clone away, the deed had already been done, and the three before him would begin to jot down within their notes, each one looking slightly at the lad as they would then seem to look to one another as if to confirm their decision in scoring. The silent conversation would continue only briefly, yet soon enough returning their attention to that of the student before them.

"Onto the next technique...Transformation.....You are free to decide the form in which you wish to take. Understand that this desired image must be in completion and to specifications to the merits of the item or object in mind. While you will not be the exact size of said creation, detail is still a key factor....you may begin when ready...."

Whether or not the boy did well with the first technique was to be unanswered for now. Though in truth, if they had not stopped the procedure, perhaps that was a good sign that it was not over yet despite his small slip up. Though the next technique still left in question. How would the boy do? What form would he take? Would it aid him or hinder him further?

[attr="class","skullbody"]

Transformation, that one was better… or at least that's what he hoped. At the very least they were moving on instead of lingering on it, something that allowed Konsho to push the ever growing fear of failure to the back of his mind. Right now he was still breathing, and he could feel his body in growing detail. The more he was able to feel, the less he focused on the twisting world around him. Sure the world was still there, burbling, pulsating, growing and spreading. It hadn't reached the proctors, not yet, but it was a mere few feet away at this point.
[break][break]
Konsho felt the anxiety ridden stress born waking nightmare all around him, he was eternally aware of it. It was one of the problems with dreaming while awake. In the dark the shapes were vague and seemed disturbingly disconnected from reality. It was its own form of alien horror, but there was the comfort that one could flick on a light, and the issues would be buried deep where it would not torment the victim again. Yet during the day, all the light that shines onto the creatures only seeks to ground them, giving evidence to their existence. It set them in reality as it molded to fit them, banishing the dreams of dispelling them.
[break][break]
Yet his body, both physical and spiritual, grounded him. The ground was moving and alive, converting to living bacteria and mold, but he was fine. His lungs breathed clean and pure air, his chakra burned in time with those very breaths. It fed on his emotions, and even now he could feel it holding his nausea at bay. The oxygen in his lungs became energy, moving in sync with his chakra to fuel his muscles. Unseen creatures swam around him, the world was gigantic, and thousands of eyes watched him, yet he was here. He was alive, and life burned inside of him. It was a comfort it took him a while to notice, a passive one that he always needed to search for, lest it fade with the other background noise of life.
[break][break]
Too focussed on controlling himself to dispel the other clone, Konsho would focus on some image. Something that he knew he could do perfectly. He could try being his mother… although perhaps something around his size would be better. Something or someone he had memorized, who had made an impact on him. Deep inhale. Dog, Boar, Ram. With a loud exhale smoke would surround the true Konsho, obscuring the transformed child.
[break][break]
What stood when the smoke cleared was a sight that was frankly the opposite of Konsho. Physically this was to be expected. Gaining five inches, the newly formed person stared forward with light blue eyes and a head of blond hair. The figure was also female as well, wearing a signature orange leotard that the girl wore in her secondary profession. The accessories made it obvious who he was, a black jacket with orange shoulder stripes, and two circular orange stripes on the arms, alongside a black cap and finally: the famous gorilla faced belt she carried everywhere. Even the black makeup she usually had under her eyes was present, everything accounted for. More over was the stance, the biggest departure from Konsho. Acting as the very person he turned into, ‘Konsho’ stood strong. The stance and posture he kept was one of casual pride and confidence, as if to state others were lucky to be near the figure. Evidently he was no longer Konsho Chizawa, but Taki Okada. As far as he knew... the transformation was perfect. He would hope so considering how much he thought of her recently.

The change seemed instant, while perhaps far longer within the boy's mind. They could sense the tension, yet it did not hold him back. Though the appearance he took of one of his former classmates and former fellow student to the sage was surprising. The features of the girl, the size seemed almost identical. Of course, there was the matter of size. It would never be completely to the original, yet that alone would not stop it from being passable to those that did not know such measurements. The point of transformation was to allow for quick deception and nothing more. Such advance techniques in the art were known to be far more efficient, but this was not within the boy's talents. Not yet anyway.

As his monitors seemed to return to jotting down into their notes, seeing the display as they spoke amongst themselves, they would fall to silence as one of them would begin to speak.

"We will now move to the final stage of the exam....Kawarimi no Jutsu.....Substitution..."

In allowing the other to speak, another would begin to move ahead from the table, their hands creating a swift string of seals before releasing what looked to be a log from the palm of their hands. The piece of lumber stood at same height of that of Konsho, creating a perfect target for the youth.

"You are to perform this technique to the best of your ability...and we will give our final results upon your overall performance...you may begin when ready..."

As the proctors judged his transformation, Konsho was unsure of what to really do next. He had no doubt another jutsu was coming. It would be hard to do two at once. But it was strange... this was empowering. Not being Taki specifically, but just... being not him. Not the failure apprentice, not the nervous wreck or the various other traits he carried with him. Just anyone else, it felt... lighter. As though if he so much as took one step he could leap from the ground and fly. Surely the removed weight on his mind would make it easier to preform the next technique, even if in doing so he dispelled the original.
[break][break]
Then the thoughts of Taki came again... She was a genin now, right? Lord it... had been a while. When was it. May was when she graduated. But... today was the 9th of May. A year. She had been forced to stop her sage training for a year. All because Konsho didn't feel confident in his ability to preform jutsu he already knew. True there was the depressive episodes but those shouldn't have stopped him. He'd had these for almost seven years now, he should be able to fight through them in a few days at the most. Konsho was holding her back. So how was he to fix that?
[break][break]
His thoughts were brought back when the proctors gave him his next technique. Substitution. Technically the most complicated. It was a fusion of multiple academy techniques. From Transformation it required one to mold their chakra around a target to make it look like them, at least until it was struck. From the Clone Technique, it took the ability to quickly switch with a fake target. In fact, most of the time substitution was used, he had heard switching with clones was the best choice. as another proctor created a log, Konsho's thoughts yet again had him second guessing whether to keep the transformation up.
[break][break]
With a sigh he dispelled the illusionary disguise. Not for the sake of making the technique easier however. Konsho had felt he relied a little... too much on others. Sure his family was showing him it was good to lean on others, but... Konsho couldn't afford to be in the transformation technique at all times, especially in combat where he would be using a large majority of techniques. He needed to do this on his own.
[break][break]
Taking a deep breath, Konsho would yet again preform the hand signs needed for yet another requested technique. This time however, perhaps out of guilt, perhaps because he had a small amount of bravado he picked up from Taki, or maybe both... he did it quickly. Tiger, Boar, Ox, Dog, Snake. And with that it was done. Konsho was consumed in smoke, and suddenly, Konsho was both standing in front of the proctor and where he was a second ago. After a mere three seconds, the 'Konsho' next to his undispelled clone would be draped in smoke before revealing itself to be the log from earlier... which then fell onto the clone next to it, thus finally removing the successful creation. With a determined, though shaky, gaze, Konsho would hold his breath and pray that this was enough to overlook the poor performance of his clone. That he at last could have visible progress. Stop holding others back.

The silence within the room had halted all other possible focus as the attempt was made by the young shinobi, his body seeming to freeze if but a moment, only to disappear and reappear within place of his clone. It was a level of concentration that was a tad rare when one looked upon the record of Konsho, yet it was perhaps a high-light to the exam as a whole. With the technique performed, the test at it's completion, all that remained now was for the judgement.

Mummers moved between the instructors, each one examining the other's notes, speaking in hushed whispers and gentle tones. There were some moments of sharp rigor, and others of light jabbing from side-remarks. Yet soon enough, the words of soft tone would cease, allowing for their attention to once more turn toward the youth before them. As they began, one would rise to speak for them.

"Kontone..."

"Sir...its Konsho...."

"Yes yes...I know!"

As if to reaffirm this with the others, each one seeming to roll their eyes in annoyance, the youngest of the group would seem to signal for the older male to take a seat, the female coughing into her hand as she began the announcement once more.

"Konsho...after examination of your performance...as well as inclusion of your assessment score...we have decided that....you are ready to take on the responsibilities that come with the rank of Genin...Understand...that such a responsibility is one that is not simply given...it is earned through hard work and dedication to not only yourself...but to your homeland. This rite is one that is presented only to those that have risen through their training within the academy, with a firm understanding of what it is to serve for more than one's self. To be a Genin, is to strive to work together with others to better protect and build the future of Iwagakure....If you understand and accept this responsibility...step forward now..."

[attr="class","skullbody"]Breathing. Probably something he should be doing right now. But oxygen wasn't on his list of priorities at the moment. Right now he was taking in everything, praying to whatever creature brought Akira back that he'd get to finally move on with his life. Part of him was slightly surprised that he couldn't make out what the proctors were saying. After all he had just switched places with a log not three feet from them. Was the training from chuunin to academy so great that it could effect even something as basic as talking?
[break][break]
Irrelevant. All that mattered was passing. Moving on. Finally Beginning the training needed to be a Sage. And these people held that fate in their hands. There were sharp movements, which tended to indicate shock and thus, didn't bode well for Konsho... however judging by the playful ribbing he was seeing, there seemed to be side conversations as well. Perhaps they were just using this time to joke amongst themselves. The conclusion was forgone, they'd just use their time to deal with other things more important to them.
[break][break]
Of course if that was true, there was the question of if the obvious answer was that he passed or failed. Although... recent events had Konsho questioning if anything in life was that simple.
[break][break]
There was the wrong name again... something that didn't bode well. Seemed those two were having an issue about this however, and Konsho doubted such blatant annoyance would be given on a mere second infraction. After all if Konsho could pick up on it, the two proctors weren't being subtle. Perhaps the eldest was just bad with names.
[break][break]
It wasn't until the female of the group spoke that Konsho began to relax. What she said, it filled Konsho with an overwhelming amount of emotion. Happiness, relief, hopeful dread of the future. Although this only applied to his passing. The other stuff he had a feeling he wouldn't be able to do until the emotions were gone and he could introspect. Of course those emotions weren't coming out yet. He could let them out, and the tears he was holding back, when he was home. For now, he'd take the needed step forward. Even if he didn't agree with the speech later, he was ready to finally be of use. To let him and all those he was holding back move forward.
[break][break]
Although there was the fact that he'd have to interact with Taki later. They hadn't spoken in... well the year since she was a genin. At first he thought it was because she was merely busy as a genin, but on the reflection he was making in the few seconds between techniques... maybe she was just sick of him. Maybe looking at him reminded her that Midori was holding her back for a son that wasn't really hers. Not that she had any way to know that, Midori didn't treat Konsho like he was adopted. Either way... a part of him had a feeling he was in for the chewing out of a life time. Hopefully he could convince her his apology was genuine.
[break][break]
But to get there he needed to step forwards. So Konsho did, albeit silently as he tried to contain his emotions. From this day forward he was a genin... and there was nothing he could do about what followed.

Many would consider such a gesture only a formality at best, at worst a waste of time. But there was a symbolic gesture in the placement of a child's first headband, one that remained with them for the rest of there careers to the moment that they finally laid them to rest or simply were buried with them. They were the status symbol of progress and growth, the change in which many began to see that their future was now tied to that of the village. They were duty bound to serve and their lives were now no longer their own. They would still have much to learn, but this was the first and most important step.

With Konsho now standing before them, the young woman would come to stand in front of him, her eyes looking back to see what looked to be a box, the sign of Iwagakure stamped upon it's surface. As she drew open the container, she'd retrieve a strap from with in, looking to the side as along with it came a metal template that held the same mark as that of the box. Upon taking the time to place it through an open, tying it's ends together as to hold the plate at it's center, she'd then hand the headband to the young Iwagakure youth.

"Wear it proudly...and remember that your journey has only just begun...You are now part of a group unlike any other...do not forget what you have learned here and always continue to grow...Konsho..."

As the others within the room would stand and watch, they would remain silent as the woman would take a step back, her smile remaining as she held her hands in front of her.

"You make us all proud..."
