Shinobi Nations / Military Powers


Beach Country | Hama no Kuni

The Land of the Beach is an island nation composed of Nagi Island and O'uzu Island. It has two prominent shrines, Todoroki Shrine and Modoroki Shrine, and two prominent clans, the Wasabi and Wagarashi. The two clans are in constant opposition with one another and compete each year to see who will lead the nation. This leads to some confusing foreign policy, but the event attracts viewers from all around.

Bear Country | Kuma no Kuni

The Land of Bears is a heavily forested northern coastal country bordering Forest Country. Long ago, the nation was ruled by two clans - the Tayuya and the Ashikaga - who ruled over the coast and the inlands respectively. The two clans wished to take over the other and unify the country and so fought a war. The Tayuya lost and were forced across the sea to Yuki no Kuni, where they established Yukigakure. The Ashikaga continued to grow and developed their own shinobi forces and secret village in 941, Hoshigakure. The two have held a fierce rivalry ever since. Yukigakure attempted to reclaim Bear Country in the First Shinobi war and failed. During the Second Shinobi War, Hoshigakure sent ships to meet Yukigakure on the battle ground of Frost Country, but suffered great losses and failed before ever reaching the shore. Hoshigakure is surrounded by a canyon filled with poisonous gas. The nation is known for its frequent meteor showers and its fur hides.

Forge Country | Tanya no Kuni

The Land of Forges is a coastal nation in the far east that borders Soot Country, Demon Country, Honey Country, Snake Country, and Fang Country. A lucrative nation, Forge Country makes a large amount of money on arms dealing with the nations around it. It is known for its abundance of metal and its excellent smiths who excel in all manner of weapons manufacturing. This has led to a cast of shinobi who perform experimental bukijutsu.

Frost Country | Shimo no Kuni

The Land of Frost is a northern coastal nation between Lightning Country and Hot-Springs Country. During the Second Shinobi War, a major invasion was mounted by Yukigakure forces when Hoshigakure failed to intercept them. The enemy shinobi ransacked the country and laid waste to Shimogakure. In 1002, the Raikage killed several Frost Country citizens for no apparent reason, sparking a large conflict that lasted three months before the Raikage mysteriously died. The nation is still recovering from these two conflicts. Frost Country is known for its fishing industry and its nonwoven fabrics. Shimogakure shinobi often excel in ninjutsu. Their village was founded in 957.

Iron Country | Tetsu no Kuni

The Land of Iron is a militaristic coastal nation bordering Earth Country. Rather than practicing the shinobi arts, the military of this country is made of samurai. The Land of Iron and the shinobi nations have an agreement to not interfere in one another's affairs and this makes the nation a good neutral meeting ground for leader summits. The nation is known for its fierce winters, its Three Wolves Mountain, and its tremendously crafted swords and armor.

Key Country | Kagi no Kuni

The Land of Keys is a southern coastal nation bordered by Neck Country and Jaw Country. The nation's shinobi are masters of espionage and the nation is known for its poisons.

Lake Country | Kosui no Kuni

The Land of Lakes is a marshy landlocked nation bordered by Swamp Country, Wolf Country, Demon Country, Honey Country, and Hill Country. The nation is dotted with many large lakes and sports many shinobi with excellent Suiton techniques. The shinobi forces find their home in the hidden village of Kosuigakure, in the middle of one of the nation's largest lakes. It is known for its freshwater fish and scale hides.

Moon Country | Tsuki no Kuni

The Land of the Moon is an island nation residing on a crescent moon shaped piece of land. It is a tremendously wealthy nation known for its sea trade and mineral abundance as well as its finely-crafted spears. There is a legend revolving around its shape that says that it was created as a platform for a grand battle. A monumental explosion took off most of the island and left it in its famed crescent shape. Shinobi from this nation are particularly skilled in traditional sōjutsu. Their hidden village, Getsugakure was established in 950.

Mountain Country | Yama no Kuni

The Land of Mountains is a mountainous coastal nation bordering Fire Country. The nation is separated from Water Country by the ocean and two small, unclaimed islands. The Land of Mountains is known for its heavy mineral and jewel industry. Their hidden village, Kagerougakure, is found high in the mountain ranges along the northern coast.

Pink-Flower Country | Hana no Kuni

The Land of Flowers is a fertile coastal nation. The soil of this land has special properties that make it exceptionally productive for growing all manner of crops from food to flowers, which are the nation's main export. The abundance of these crops means this nation almost single-handedly feeds several nations with less fortunate lands on its continent. Their hidden village, Nadeshikogakure, is hidden within a field of flowers that disorient the mind. Shinobi from Nadeshikogakure often utilize genjutsu, especially that of a colorful or distracting variety.

Ranmantaru Empire | Ranmantaru Teikoku

The Ranmantaru Empire is a heavily isolationist military country positioned in the deep south. The only nation they deal with is Yuki no Kuni, as the current Emperor is married to a prominent member of the Yoi clan. This nation produces the finest steel available. These is a very old and traditional nation, with a legacy that rivals even the oldest shinobi nations.

Reef Country | Ganshō no Kuni

The Land of Reefs is an island nation south of Beach Country and east of Sea Country. The islands are exceptionally scattered and struggle to maintain a centralized government. However, they are rich in fish and sport a decently strong series of ununified local naval forces which band together when threatened.

Rice-Field Country | Ta no Kuni

The Land of Rice-Fields is a lush coastal nation bordered by Fire Country, Forest Country, and Hot-Springs Country. The nation is home to many scattered and piecemeal clans who collapsed. In 955, these clans coalesced once more to form their hidden village, Otogakure. The Land of Rice-Fields is known for its rice trade as well as its prominent focus on scientific experimentation. In recent years, it seems as though Otogakure is eyeing an invasion of Forest Country.

River Country | Kawa no Kuni

The Land of Rivers is a coastal nation bordered by Fire Country, Wind Country, and Storm Country. The land is marked with many rivers. Legends of River Country that long before any of the shinobi villages existed, there was a river of pure gold. These tales are greatly exaggerated, but the nation is known for its gold, which can be found if one pans in any of its rivers. Many criminals make their homes in River Country. The shinobi of Tanigakure rarely take external missions, as they find themselves busied dealing with these criminal organizations and their attempts to leech off their gold industry. Tanigakure was founded in 958 and is a relatively youthful shinobi nation that arose in response to the need to defend itself.

Sea Country | Umi no Kuni

The Land of the Sea is a series of several small islands - Haha, Taro, and Kika. The nation is not particularly prosperous and heavily relies upon Kirigakure for protection. Still, this nation is a good stopping location on many trade routes. They host a relatively young secret village, still building their strength.

Sky Country | Sora no Kuni

The Land of the Sky is a very secretive nation. Its primary hub of operations, Soragakure, spends the majority of the time suspended in the air by steam power. This nation is most known for its advanced steam technology, which it refuses to share with its peers and keeps sealed within a death seal, the information vanishing if their leader is ever killed. Sky Country mediates a relationship between Claw Country and Fang Country and has its military numbers supplemented by their volunteers for this reason.

Soot Country | Susu no Kuni

The Land of Soot is a northern coastal country which endures many forest fires. The nation makes use of this trend of combustion, gathering the soot for practical purposes. For this reason, the nation is well-known for its inks and dyes as well as its production of rubber. Their village, Moyagakure, is hidden within a forest under controlled burn. Their shinobi often utilize techniques involving katon or manipulation of soot.

Stone Country | Ishi no Kuni

The Land of Stones is a landlocked nation bordered by Earth Country, Storm Country, Wind Country, and Bird Country. A heavily religious nation, this country is headed by a priest. There are many temples throughout this land said to be as sturdy as fortresses. Their holy city also acts as their hidden village, Ishigakure. Most shinobi from this nation are religious users. Their religion first took hold and bloomed into a full scale shinobi village in 955.

Whirlpool Country | Uzu no Kuni

The Land of Whirlpools was founded by the Uzumaki after they split from their cousin clan, the Senju. They have lived and dwelled there in neutrality and peace as long as possible even as other clans grew around them. Eventually in 948, they established the hidden village of Uzushiogakure. In recent years, forces from Uzushiogakure have been sent to Konohagakure and even Kusagakure as a demonstration of good will between the nations. The Land of Whirlpools is known for its ferocious fūinjutsu and its creative inventions. The waters surrounding this nation are filled with abundant and violent whirlpools that make the waters difficult to travel without a guide, which has protected the nation from enemy invasions.


Non-Shinobi Nations


Bird Country | Tori no Kuni

The Land of Birds is a landlocked nation just between Earth Country and Wind Country. Many birds migrate to this nation during the winter months and it is known for its feathered textiles for this reason. The Daimyo lives at the center of a city surrounded by multiple layers of moats. Political tensions with Iwagakure are somewhat strained, as an annex was attempted (though quickly ceased) within recent years.

Boar Country | Inoshishi no Kuni

The Land of Boars is a landlocked, heavily forested nation with a high population of boars. Their population consists of many traditional hunters who make good trade of their namesake. The country is known for its meat and hides as well as its boar-tusk equipment.

Cave Country | Dōkutsu no Kuni

The Land of Caves is a northern coastal nation which is filled with many craggy, deep caves, some so deep no one has yet to dare exploring them. Many resources and minerals are mined out of these caves. City centers traditionally are built within structurally sound caves to provide for defense. Some uncharted caves are very dangerous due to the build-up of CO2 and other heavy gasses, which sometimes cause explosions. Many a would-be explorer has died in these unsafe caves.

Claw Country | Tsume no Kuni

The Land of Claws is a competitive coastal nation which is in constant opposition with Fang Country, its northern neighbor. The nation does not train its own shinobi or maintain its own military power, but rather sends them to Soragakure in Sky Country in trade for Sky Country's protection. This land's people are known for their claw weaponry and hand-based taijutsu styles.

Crater Country | Kakō no Kuni

The Land of the Crater is a nation which primarily exists within an enormous crater left by the falling of a great meteor in a prehistoric era. The capital city is built around the meteor, which is considered sacred, though faces frequent scalping attempts by criminals wishing to harvest the vast resources undeniably contained within.

Demon Country | Oni no Kuni

The Land of Demons is a strange, landlocked nation to the south of Soot Country and east of Lake Country. A heavily religious nation, the people here only practice chakra manipulation for spiritual purposes. They design fuinjutsu and genjutsu unlike anything shinobi forces have ever seen.

Fang Country | Kiba no Kuni

The Land of Fangs is a competitive coastal nation which is in constant opposition with Claw Country, its southern neighbor. The nation does not train its own shinobi or maintain its own military power, but rather sends them to Soragakure in Sky Country in trade for Sky Country's protection. This land's people are known for their spiked weaponry and bite-based taijutsu styles.

Forest Country | Mori no Kuni

The Land of Forests is a heavily wooded nation bordered by Basin Country, Rice-Field Country, and Fire Country, so thick with trees that those who do not call it their home sometimes find it unnavigable. It contains the famed Forest of Bewilderment - a forest with such a dense fog and confusing geography that those who enter almost never return.

Gear Country | Hagurama no Kuni

The Land of Gears is a small southern coastal nation famous for its production of clocks, efficient factory processes and a multitude of mechanical prostheses. Several years ago, a coup was launched and the local Daimyo overthrown by the head of the Maikesu clan who now rules as Daimyo.

Hill Country | Oka no Kuni

The Land of Hills is a large landlocked nation dominated by many rolling hills. They maintain a decent transportation network that allows better travel across the continent.

Honey Country | Mitsu no Kuni

The Land of Honey is a large landlocked nation bordering Lake Country and Forge Country. They are well regarded for their entomology, particularly their raising of millions of bee colonies and the vast production of honey and wax that results from such.

Hot-Springs Country | Yu no Kuni

The Land of Hot-Springs is a peace-loving coastal nation bordering Fire Country, Rice-Fields Country, and Frost Country. The land is dappled with many natural springs. For this reason, this is a very common tourist destination, and almost all of their revenue comes primarily from their hot springs. Their main export is potatoes. During the second shinobi war, the previous lord of Yugakure was killed by an unknown assailant. This brought about the end of the war and signing of a non-aggression pact, as many on both sides of the war had been his friend, and his death brought mourning to the entire continent. This nation still receives great leniency from other nations and is another common holding-ground for neutral meetings. While they do not train enough shinobi to be considered a military power or a threat to other nations, they train enough to protect their VIPs, and their secretive and select shinobi forces are said to be very powerful.

Jaw Country | Ago no Kuni

The Land of Jaws is a southern coastal country which borders Key Country. It is primarily known for its shark fishing trade and the products made from shark jaws and bones.

Jungle Country | Mitsurin no Kuni

The Land of Jungles is a southern coastal nation that is incredibly humid and lush with jungle growth. The nation has many exotic animals and plants found only within this country, many very deadly.

Law Country | Hō no Kuni

The Land of Laws is a northern coastal nation bordering Iron Country. The nation is very marshal, with the Daimyo ruling with an incredibly firm and unforgiving hand. The people here live under a very strict rule and must behave in a reserved manner. Missing-nin are incredibly unwelcome here. While most do not know this, this nation is the origin of Jashinism.

Marsh Country | Sawa no Kuni

The Land of Marshes is a landlocked nation bordering Pink-Flowers Country. This nation is known primarily for its freshwater fish. The land is difficult to traverse because of its marshy nature, making travel slow and cumbersome.

Neck Country | Kubi no Kuni

The Land of Neck is a southern coastal nation bordering Key Country. The previous Daimyo was killed and overthrown some years back and the nation is still in recovery. The Land of Neck is called so because of its long history of beheadings, every wave of governmental change usually being preceded by blooded executions. The nation is known to build strong fortresses.

Noodle Country | Udon no Kuni

The Land of Noodles is a northern coastal country famous for its production of noodles. An enormous amount of its exports is made up of noodles and it supplies at least some to most nations on the planet.

Quarry Country | Saisekijō no Kuni

The Land of Quarries is a southern coastal nation famous for its enormous mining quarries. They bring up large amounts of materials per year and trade them globally.

Red-Bean Country | An no Kuni

The Land of Red-Beans is a southern coastal nation primarily known for its prominent, skilled bakers. Its most famous export is its red bean paste.

Rice-Wine Country | Sake no Kuni

The Land of Rice-Wine is a north coastal nation famous for its delicious sake. The nation produces other manners of alcohol as well and has a general expertise in fermentation.

Shadow Country | Kage no Kuni

The Land of Shadows is a north island nation northeast of Soot Country. The nation is an incredibly frigid and hostile environment, making it almost impossible to explore. At some points in the year the sun never rises, leaving the island cast in long shadows for endless days. It is known that there are people inhabiting this country, but little is actually known about them.

Shield Country | Tate no Kuni

The Land of Shields is a southern coastal nation bordering Sky Country. The nation is primarily known for its production of incredibly sturdy shields as well as its ability to withstand siege despite it lacking military might. This success can be partially attributed to its massive mountain ranges, which provide natural shielding to the country.

Snake Country | Hebi no Kuni

The Land of Snakes is a southern landlocked nation bordering Sky Country. It is known for its abundance of various kinds of snakes, allowing unique production of poisons, antivenoms, and snake-hide materials.

Spear Country | Yari no Kuni

The Land of Spears is a northern coastal nation bordering Pink-Flowers Country. Though they engage little in battle for themselves, they produce and sell many finely crafted spears. They are also known for their entertaining spear battles and other sports tournaments, such as holding Yabusame tournaments.

Sun Country| Taiyō no Kuni

The Land of the Sun is a southern coastal nation. The people of this nation benefit heavily from trade agreements organized with Moon Country.

Swamp Country | Numa no Kuni

The Land of Swamps is a landlocked wetlands bordering Lake Country. Though they struggle to grow their own food and must rely on Pink-Flowers Country for their resources, they make up for it with heavy exports of peat, which help to support agricultural industries. Many rare and unique medicinal plants also grow here.

Tea Country | Cha no Kuni

The Land of Tea is a southern coastal nation bordering Fire Country. The nation is known for its tea production, considered well above the capabilities of other nations, as well as its many tea houses. The nation is a trading powerhouse. Though peaceable, there has been unrest in the nation in recent years because of the wealth disparity between the richest and poorest merchants, with rebels beginning to plot against the Daimyo.

Tide Country | Shio no Kuni

The Land of Tides is a southern coastal nation. It is known primarily for its shellfish industry.

Tornado Country | Tatsumaki no Kuni

The Land of Tornados is a southern coastal country. It is plagued with frequent storms and tornadoes. The people seem to have grown accustomed to this and can live with the storms, almost using them as a form of natural defense. For this reason, the people of this country are naturally resilient and tremendously stubborn. They take pride in their grand endurance.

Valley Country | Tanima no Kuni

The Land of Valleys is a small landlocked nation. It is known primarily for its production of grapes and nuts, though it has begun to become a forerunner in medical research in recent years, and many medical shinobi wish to travel there.

Vegetable Country | Na no Kuni

The Land of Vegetables is a coastal nation bordering Wind Country. Though some of the land is incredibly mountainous, much of it is made up of farmlands or natural vegetable growth. Food seems to spring from the ground with little trouble here, providing an ongoing supply to other nations. They are an important source of food imports for Earth Country and Stone Country.

Wave Country | Nami no Kuni

The Land of Waves is an incredibly small island nation connected to Fire Country by a long bridge. It is known for its abundant rivers and mangroves which support all sorts of life.

Wolf Country| Ōkami no Kuni

The Land of Wolves is a northern coastal nation bordering Soot Country. It is a cold nation that has many snow wolves. The people of this place often tame the wolves and live among them, hunting and training with these powerful beasts.

Wood Country | Moku no Kuni

The Land of Wood is a northern landlocked nation bordering Earth Country and Iron Country. This nation sports the greatest variety of trees found anywhere on the planet, cultivating wood with all manner of amazing properties.
