When Kotobuki set about setting up the explosive tags, Tomomi moved back to take some cover and subtly encouraged the others to do the same. With an explosion in such a closed environment, it was inevitable that they'd get a bit of dust in their eyes and a little ringing in their ears, but nothing they'd never dealt with before. It all settled soon enough and they waved a hand through the air to try to clear some of the smoke, approaching the hole in the wall.

"Thank you," they said to Kotobuki, climbing through without much hesitation. It was oppressively dark back here, which wasn't particularly surprising for a cave. Tomomi picked carefully through the dark for a moment, observing utensils. It seemed unlikely that these would have been left here by the bandits, given fact that the gate was intact and all their things were at the front. It wouldn't be wise to rule out the option entirely, but it was their opinion that this must belong to another group entirely. Other people living here? Or just some remnants of the people who made this place in the first place?

They continued to press forward, feeling out in front of them with chakra strings in search of any traps. They paused before the tri-split tunnels, trying to decide which route to go down.

"How do you two want to approach this?" They asked. "My preference would be to stick together, but we could finish things more efficiently if we were to split up. Either way we have to choose a path forwards. ...Or up," they said, gazing up at the unending darkness above. It would be a simple thing to climb up the wall, but who knows what they'd find down any path? Tomomi's Mind's Eye still wasn't picking anything up.

Don’t just weather the storm.

Dark hues followed the man as he shifted forward, making his way towards the gate in which that was blocking the group from entering deeper inside the cave where the sheep FuwaFuwa was wandering around aimlessly in the dark. Kotobuki would set the paper tag and as he did so, Kazui would see his chakra on the note as it stuck onto the gate.

It wouldn’t be smart to stand too close to the explosive tag, especially since space wasn’t of much essence and the paper tags normally had quite a kick behind it. Turning on her heel, Kazui would shift her position closer towards the entrance, behind the jonin and close to the closet that Kotobuki had been trapped in. As the explosion went off, dust and rubble debris would be thrown back towards the shinobi. Smoke filled the cave momentarily before it eventually cleared out, presenting a sizable entrance for the trio to move through. Nodding her head, Kazui would show gratitude to the random guy before following her leader into the cave.

The light from Kazui’s lantern would flicker subtly, the cave was nearly pitch black, and the torch wasn’t doing much to help in that regard. They could only see just a couple of feet ahead before the light faded into the deep mysterious darkness that left Kazui with an uneasy feeling. Her eyes shifted around the hall, picking up random items that seemed to be left behind from some people who might have inhabited this particular portion of the cave before the current bandits made it their hideout.

Other than the random objects in the hall, three tunnels would be present to the trio as they moved further along. "Of course..” the girl would mouth to herself as she continued to look between the three choices.

"I think it would be better if we stick together, and personally I would take the middle path. It’s neutral, right in between the other tunnels...but that’s just the way I look at things.”

The girl explained as she shrugged her shoulders, turning to face the guy to get his opinion on the matter.

Shared joys make a friend, not shared sufferings.
Kotobuki’s first order of business was to look around the room that was opened up with his tag, visually searching for his large scroll and frowning with disappointment that it wasn’t there. It wasn’t ever that easy.

"Sure, let’s stick together. Middle sounds like a good idea,” he agreed. If things were straight forward enough he might be able to find places where the walls were thin to make there way into the other routes. "I wonder if the incline might take us up and out, but if we need to withdraw the decline back will be easier. Either way, try to keep some dispersion as we go, yea?”

He didn’t stop to wait for who they thought would go first. In his experience village shinobi were a suspicious lot, and they had him outvoted. He sent Fuwa in first ahead of himself and then got on all fours and began to follow through the tunnel himself, picking up his front right hand with the staff to tap against the tunnel walls to keep his bearing. It also helped to let the sheep know that he was getting too close.

"I can’t see a thing,” the deep voice of the little sheep echoed through the tunnel.

The trio would find the incline to go on for a good while, up, up, up and up it went. They would likely have come back out, too, but they didn’t. Instead the trio would likely have settled into a rather bored state - or a highly worried a claustrophobic one - as the path would drop rather suddenly and present them with a slide down to a more straight piece of tunnel. This tunnel would stretch on and grow tighter and tighter until the trio would need to crawl on their elbows.

However…

If they kept going, they would find themselves in a tight spot. Literally. The tunnel would narrow so much it left a small hole to squeeze through and any slightly too big body parts were bound to get stuck, but more likely was the scenario that they would snag on the uneven rock and have themselves hooked there unable to move forward or backwards.
If Tomomi employed the Kagura mind’s eye jutsu once more she would likely find a few signs of chakra further ahead she’d find signs of chakra which did no belong to anything above ground. Would they test their luck with the narrow tunnel or turn around and attempt to reach further via another tunnel?

As the team progressed forward through the tunnel, Tomomi remained aware of the surroundings, trying to keep an eye out for anything odd. Cautiously coming down the slide to the straighter tunnel using their wall-walking was a simple enough task, but finding this claustrophobic passage had them hesitant. It was not so unnatural for a cave formation to begin to become so narrow, tucked away deep inside the earth like this. Natural caverns turned into small, tight spaces all the time. But still, it was too risky. Once it reached the point the team was going to have to crawl, Tomomi would stop them, discouraging movement forward.

"I think the passage ahead is going to continue to narrow and we'll end up getting stuck if we try to go through," she warned. "If we're facing someone with doton abilities, or something large enough it could cause a cave-in, going somewhere with such a tight squeeze could be immediately deadly. One rock slides out of place and..." They could readily imagine the cave-in slide and collapse that would crush anyone crawling on their stomach in there.

"There is a chakra signature ahead and through that passage, though. I don't imagine anyone would be comfortable crawling on their stomach all the way through jagged rock, so there must be another path in. I'm guessing none of us have the doton know-how to pass through. So I recommend circling back and trying another path."

If the others agreed and they did circle back, Tomomi would use their delving strings to feel down the other paths for a threat and avoid a fall. If they didn't agree to turn back, Tomomi would follow in deeper with them.

And so they went. Traversing through the middle tunnel, visibility was low, but the trio of shinobi continued to press forward. As they did so, the steady incline would suddenly present a drop. Kazui would slide down directly behind Tomomi as her eyes focused on the narrowing tunnel ahead which seemed it would force the three of them to crawl on their hands and knees before they would need to be prone.

The girl would scoff quietly beneath her breath. How many tunnels and passages did this place have? It seemed as if the further they went, the shadier things became. Nonetheless, after inspecting the tunnel a bit, Kazui was able to determine that she would be able to continue forward - but it would be best if the three of them remained together and found a different route. "Hm..” The girl would nod her head in agreement to the jonin as she turned on her heel and started back up the incline.

"I wonder who or what could be on the other side of that passage.” She spoke to the jonin and the wanderer, her eyes watching each and every step that she took to ensure that no wrong step would send her tumbling back down the steep incline. "I guess we’ll find out eventually.” Kazui mumbled softly to herself. As she reached the top of the incline again, another decline would send her sliding back down towards the entrance of the middle tunnel that she had originally chosen.

"Okay, Kotobuki. Left or right?” She asked, dark hues focusing on the guy’s features. Normally, she wouldn’t put the choice into someone else’s hands if she didn’t know them, but there seemed to be no way of exactly knowing which path led to what, so regardless they would be moving blindly.

As things began to narrow and Blonde Leaf Ninja decided that things were too narrow to continue, he nodded in affirmation that he had no affinity for doton. His eyes moved over to Fuwafuwa, and the sheep stared at him with an annoyed look.

"Don’t look at me,” the sheep said shaking his head in disagreement. Kotobuki grinned and began to trudge back with the others. It was then that Young Leaf Ninja gave him the chance to pick which way they were going to go. He assumed it was because it was pretty much just a fifty fifty unless they spent a lot more of their time gathering intel on the place.

Fugetsu pulled out a coin branded with marks of the land of tea on it. He flipped it upwards and it landed on a side with print on it.

"Lady luck says left,” he said.

"Well lady luck hates you, so let's go right,” Fuwafuwa protested. Kotobuki chuckled.

"Sure, sure,” he replied and flipped the coin towards Young Leaf Ninja. Foreign money was always neat to have. He started to move towards the right, stopping the group by raising his hand up to wait when they encountered the drop. He took a look down to try to get a gauge of things.

"Sense anything down there?" he asked. His own senses seemed to be betrayed here but Blonde Leaf Ninja seemed to have a greater ability than he.

The team would abandon the first tunnel and would find they had little trouble getting back into the room they started in. Lady luck would play a part and the team would head down the tunnel which ended in a massive drop. Once they made it to the drop Tomomi would be able to find a sea of chakra signatures she had not been in range of sensing before. And where was this sea of minor chakra signatures? Ahead and below them. [break][break]

The signatures intersected and mingled and at times would seem as if they were one big entity. Would the sensor relay the information to the rest of the team or would they be left in the dark for a little longer? If they went down the wall - via jutsu, equipment, or the one with no return ticket- they'd find the darkness was heavy and moist. However if they kept at it and kept descending they'd meet a layer of mist which would decrease their visibility to the point where they'd only be able to see their elbow when they stretched an arm out. If they proceeded down to the very bottom they'd find rock floor and the dark mist was all they could see. Tomomi would be able to sense the sea of signatures ahead of them still. If they advanced through the mist they'd more than likely end up walking into some of the slabs of stone standing around the rectangular 'room'.

Following the path along, they managed to make it closer to a sheer drop in the landscape. It was still dark, but they could sense at a distance many chakra signatures below, dancing and weaving together in strange ways. Was it possible that this was some shinobi distorting their signature? Or was it spirits of some kind? They'd never seen anything like it before, but they also hadn't had the Mind's Eye for all that long. Either way, they were sure to find something strange.

"There's something down there alright," Tomomi confirmed for Kotobuki, squatting down to try to listen, but it was a long way off, and their hearing wasn't particularly enhanced. "A lot of them. Can't quite tell what it is, though. I don't think it's people, but it could be. The signatures are mingling together, occasionally creating some much larger force," they tried to describe.

It was concerning, but they had to confess that, for now, curiosity won out over any kind of anxiety about the matter. Maybe if they were quiet and weren't rowdy, whatever was down there would leave them alone and not tear them up like it'd done the bandits. If this had been an old place of worship, maybe it was a matter of respect more than anything else. ...If that was the case, they might have some trouble, though, considering Kotobuki already blew that gate up. Hm.

"Let's tread cautiously." They wouldn't let it hold them back from advancing, whatever it was. Channeling chakra to the soles of their feet, they carefully maneuvered off the ledge and clung to the side of the wall, taking the walk down.

With little hesitation, they proceeded cautiously down the wall, until they reached the bottom. The signatures were still ahead, and Tomomi kept an eye on them through the dark, dense mist. It was hard to see down here, so they would have to rely on that sixth sense alone to watch for the approaching threat. They wondered if Kotobuki could feel it now.

"Try to stay close to me," they instructed in a low voice, if the others followed, before inching forward until they found the strange slabs. Now what are these?

Don’t just weather the storm.
Dance in it.

Eyes followed the hands of the dark haired stranger as he would seize a coin from his pockets, the land of tea branded on each side of the bronze token. With a quick flick of his finger, the coin would flip up into the air leaving nothing but fate to make their choice. The girl watched on curiously looking to see what they got, it landed on the printed side, so what did that mean? Quickly taking her gaze off of the coin and looking towards Kotobuki as he spoke, it seemed as if fate wanted them to go left - which would draw an disagreement from the talking sheep, FuwaFuwa. Kotobuki didn’t have any argument against what was said instead, he’d just flip the coin towards the young teen and she’d catch it gently in her palm.

"Alright come on, let’s go then.”

Kazui spoke as she stepped towards the right tunnel, placing the coin into her pocket, and waiting for Tomomi to take the point before following closely behind. Walking in the dark and traversing through such odd places were not in the girl’s agenda for the day - even more so considering how the tunnel seemed to be anti-sensory up to a degree. It was clear that Kotobuki sensed the two shinobi on their way in, but now apparently he was left in the dark as well when it came to sensing the chakra signatures that Tomomi was just barely able to pick up - despite the massive range in which her sensory worked.

"That doesn’t make any sense.” Kazui started, making sure she stayed close to the jonin at all times. "Everything has a separate life force, and that should be easily discernible by your ability...unless they’re combining with one another via jutsu or something of that nature.” She explained the obvious, but was still confused on what Tomomi could have been sensing. There were a ton of questions racing through her mind, and none of them were remotely close to having an answer, they would just have to continue to delve deeper into the mystery of the tunnel to find out more.

"I guess we’re gonna find out.” She spoke sticking behind the jonin and the wanderer. As they traveled deeper and deeper, visibility would decrease - dark mist covered the area the further the group descended. Luckily, Kazui was able to see the chakra signatures of her team as well as any who might’ve been close by - as well as any traps that might’ve utilized chakra such as paper bombs. It wasn’t that helpful, but at least she wouldn’t find herself getting lost. Following alongside Tomomi, the group were eventually led into stone slabs which seemed to be placed randomly around the room.

Always Passively Active:
NAME: Kagura Shingan [Kagura Mind's Eye]
RANK: A
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu // Hijutsu
ELEMENT: N/a
DESCRIPTION:
This ability allows the user to find, sense, and track individuals through their chakra over vast range that exceeds ten kilometers. This is done by focusing and opening the mind's eye, though due to the low chakra cost many users keep it active often. The ability also extends to telling when a person is lying from the fluctuations in a person's chakra made from dishonest emotions or detecting if someone, including the user, is under a genjutsu. Also by focusing on a particular chakra, the user can perceive its location and movement with great detail.

"Yea, I don’t like it…” Kotobuki replied. He was a decent sensor but he felt nothing. The leaf ninja weren’t messing with him, were they? He considered it for a moment as he eyed them, but remembered that he hadn’t felt any presence other than the bandits before this. He also doubted that one of them would remind him that his ability wasn’t working if they were planning something. "Go on home, Fuwa...”

"Finally…” the little sheep replied in his bass voice as he disappeared in a puff of smoke.

"I’m still around, as I am sure you'll see,” he told the leaf shinobi in a whisper as he put his hand up to make a seal. As they made their way down he would seem to become invisible, though it was truly just a genjutsu trick that made people see past his position.

He wasn’t sure what was ahead of them but he didn’t want to be the appetizer. He put a little distance between himself and them, hanging back just slightly. He didn’t want to distrust him, but his naivety had cost him before. Whatever the case he was better at combat when he got the jump on someone, and he doubted whatever lie ahead was going to be friendly.

CLASSIFICATION: Genjutsu
ELEMENT: -
HANDSEALS: 1
TRIGGER: Visual
DESCRIPTION:
This jutsu while not being able to be used offensively can make many jobs much more simple. This technique causes all other people who can see the user's handseal to not notice them. Meaning that when someone is using this technique people will subconsciously not take notice of them, the affected person(s) eyes looking around or right past them. Even in combat this can be a useful technique, as long as the user holds the seal the opponent will find it impossible to bring any focus on the user from their five main senses.

A technique meant for assassinations and infiltrations, its only true drawback is the small amount of chakra required to maintain it and the fact that the user must hold the seal while using it, making them unable to use other techniques. This technique however does not stop the target(s) from utilizing additional senses from detecting them. This including, but not limited to sensor shinobi.

Perhaps it was a trap. Perhaps it was simply a strange world filled with gods they had walked into. Either way, as they trio made their way through the mist - and closer to the large mass moving about far below them - surrounded by little more than their own foodsteps and drops of water occasionally dripping down from somewhere. They would find nothing of value besides rock -and moist wall if they turned back. However, as they proceeded to venture forward they would eventually encounter a large bell-shaped rock. It had numerous inscriptions etched into the stone, but small, fist sized holes, too.  [break][break]

If they lingered and touched the stone surface they would find the ground beneath them would rumble and soon enough the large mass of chakra would be advancing up to the surface at an alarming pace, breaching the other two sensors' range in a heartbeat. The mass rose up and filled the bell shape in no time, spilling out of the holes like water. However their dark shapes were everything but soft, clear water. If the trio looked closer they'd see it was cockroaches. The roaches would swarm the area, their clicking filling out the room, the echo making it into a deafening, all consuming sound.  They would continue spilling out and onto the floor, where they would attempt to climb the intruders, nipping at their clothes and any skin they could manage. They avoided Kotobuki somewhat, but those not capable of seeing the trigger? They climbed him just as easily as their brethren climbed the two other shinobi.

This was an odd place. They knew old temples could be filled with such things that would be inexplicable to the eyes of those who weren't used to them, but it was still interesting to see. As much as they could "see" anything in the dark of this underground area. Stumbling upon the bell-shaped stone was the most interesting of all. Was there something here that they run for, summoned? Tomomi would avoid touching the stone, but would get close enough to try to squint through the dark, see the inscriptions etched on it.

Perhaps that was enough to have activated whatever this was. Dark forms began swarming, almost overwhelming to the sensory reading. Roaches. That was disgusting. Apt for a torture method, even. They'd never delved in anything like that, but they knew there were some techniques that relied on the invocation of disgust through pest insects like this.

Most of their abilities weren't good for dealing with swarming masses like this. They were going to have to get creative.

They moved away from the bell as best as they could despite the torrential storm of bugs and pulled out the scroll containing Kazane. They would work on summoning her as quickly as they could. In the meantime, they asked,

"Either of you have something that could burn these up?" Katon, raiton, or really anything that could scare them away and make them scatter- hell, even a stink bomb. Tomomi isn't picky at the moment.

Don’t just weather the storm.
Dance in it.

This place sucks and it’s so weird. That’s all that could come to the girl’s mind as she continued to traverse through the mist and stone path along with Tomomi and Kotobuki. Her red eyes followed their signatures as they made their way through the darkness until they finally came across an old bell shaped rock with numerous holes punctured through its frame. Kazui had no interest in investigating anything that was inscribed into the stone. Instead, the girl would linger behind Tomomi as they checked everything out.

A sigh quickly escaped from her lips as her eyes drifted around the rest of the room. "This place is pure filth.” She could feel the grimeness of the environment without even having to touch anything. Nevertheless, the girl folded her arms over her chest - awaiting Tomomi to explain what was written in the stone. Was it a clue or directions on where to go? She figured she would find out soon enough, but the floor began to quake - little stones and pebbles falling out of place as chakra seemed to rush upwards from the floor and like liquid, began to rush from the holes of the stone bell.

This was enough to make Kazui take a hasty step away from the bell, and once the chakra fell onto the floor she was able to see that they were...cockroaches. "What the hell.” She mouthed quietly. The Uchiha kept her outward composure but on the inside, she was screaming internally. "Sooo gross!” Any appetite that the girl might have had beforehand had surely left her body as the creepy crawlers continued to pour from the bell.

Nevertheless, Kazui wouldn’t hesitate to take action. Stepping ahead of Tomomi and Kotobuki, and quickly weaving a set of hand seals, the girl would take in a deep breath as she gathered her chakra within her gullet and exhaled flames through her lips. A seemingly never ending stream of flames roared from outside her lips, sweeping the flames from side to side the flames would be enough to destroy pieces of the stone as it left a small crater where her flames traveled. As the bugs continued to flow, so would her flames - the heat would be nigh unbearable in such a confined space but it was better than having a bunch of pests crawling all over them, at least that’s how Kazui saw it.

"Someone needs to just blow this place up.” The girl suggested annoyingly, a hint of disgust in her voice as she hoped that the pests were completely taken care of.

NAME: Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu [Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu]
RANK: C
CHAKRA USAGE: Medium
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu
ELEMENT: Katon
HANDSEALS: Six
DESCRIPTION:
Acquisition of this technique indicates a young Uchiha's transition to adulthood, and has thus become an identifying symbol among themselves. After performing the seals, chakra is kneaded inside the body and converted into fire which is expelled from the mouth either as a expeditious massive orb of roaring flame comparable to a comet or as a continuous flame-thrower. The released flames will engulf their target, and leave a crater in the ground's surface. In its comet form, this technique is capable of going as far as 40 meters. As a flamethrower, its range is shorter at 20 meters, but can engulf several oncoming projectiles and opponents. For those who posses a Katon Ability, this technique possesses the speed, power, and efficiency of a B-ranked jutsu.

Shared joys make a friend, not shared sufferings.
"Ah man, bugs!?” Kotobuki called out as he fidgeted around. Needless to say with his sign being broken he was fully visible again, come what may from it.

Having at least a bit less of a roach problem to deal with the others, Kotobuki at first focused on smashing the ones that were crawling on his body as the ravenette filled the area with the flashing light of a fireball. The rising heat of the flame made breathing in hurt and his skin tingle. He much preferred his own katon technique that compressed the fire until it made impact, but he could appreciate the raw power that the more simple version had.

Trying to think of his own contribution, he grabbed for a pouch of rations and dug out a piece of bear jerky that had gotten pretty old. He formed seals and placed a ninjutsu on it to greatly amplify its smell, and then threw it down to try to attract the scouting antennae of any remnants that had escaped from the flames.

"I’m down for blowing it up, but if that kid is still here the villagers would probably be mad,” he said as he smashed more roaches crawling over him. He knew that the Leaf ninja probably could care less about his mission, but his true desire to recover his stuff was still on his mind.

NAME: Karami no Kaori [Pungent Aroma]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu
ELEMENT: N/A
HANDSEALS: 3
DESCRIPTION:
After performing three hand seals the user of this jutsu touches an object and imbues it with chakra. This jutsu amplifies the scent of the touched material. Those with an enhanced sense of smell will pick up on the scent when they are within 100 meters of the object.

The effect is nullified if the object is submerged in water or exposed to heavy rainfall. The scent fades after half an hour.
