It had been almost 2 months since the end of the Chunin exams and Taki was once again called back to the village for work. The journey was always long and arduous and she’d usually be excited to get out of the compound and get to be home for a short spell even if it only lasted an hour. And so sporting some brand new gear courtesy of her Uncle Isami the girl made the long march back home.

But today was extra special because today she’d get to be working alongside she hadn’t seen in ages, Ryoko Aihara. Ryoko and her had formed a solid bond but due to changes in their schedules with Ryoko being busy with her ops team and Taki needing to focus on sage training the two of them never got the chance to properly work together since the last time they’d been on a mission together. She’d wake up bright and early and make her way towards Iwagakure the moment she got out of bed, arriving at the village just before sunrise, shops were only just opening up and on guard were two gate guards who had become very familiar with the young sage.

"Welcome home Bakudan…” one of the gate guards would say as the other gave her a small wave of acknowledgement. "Morning boys’” the girl would say tipping her hat to the two of them as a small clipboard was given to her where she’d sign her name. "How long we staying this time?” the other guard would ask. "Not too long, dis time I’m actually just waitin’ on my partna gotta go clear out some caverns today.” the girl would stand leaning against the gate. "Careful I’d heard there were some bandits using that place as a hideaway.” she’d look back down towards em. "Well den I’d hate ta be dem!” the girl would say with a smirk.

She’d look out at the horizon as she waited for Ryoko and the moment she’d see her she’d greet her with an elated greeting. "Eyyy there she is!” she’d say practically attempting to give the girl a hug. The first thing she’d notice upon seeing her would more than likely be that Taki was much taller than the shorter 5’4 genin she’d met before and had considerably longer hair to boot. Her fashion was still similar bright orange but her jacket was noticeably longer and rather than being bare legged she’d have on a nice pair of fishnet stockings.

It had been some time since she’d paired up with Taki, but she always had a fondness for the other girl. Ryoko had always had a like of the energetic Okada in general. It shouldn’t be surprising, she had an affinity for loud, brash people who flaunted social protocol as last year’s silliness. Or maybe she was just projecting.

Regardless she zipped along her way. Of course, spotting Ryoko’s approach was difficult for most people. Yoshiko sensei and Suika had a knack for it, but they’d had a lot of time to get used to her chakra signature, and her animal shapes. She had, after all, been changing them up lately.

All too often she’d prowled as a wolf, or soared as a great hunting raptor. Recently she’d been exploring more of the prey animals. Most of them had turned out, unsurprisingly, to be amazingly useful on the defense. After only ten minutes in a squirrel’s skin she had herself convinced no one could touch her. Then again, squirrels are common enough food.

Arriving to the gatehouse she was nondescript, though one of the guards would have at least been on to some of her act. While she made a convincing mockingbird, she had a rather impressive store of chakra burning inside of her She lands atop a post near the gate, not far from Taki and the guards, and begins to chirp and sing.

It’s a pretty song, mocking birds carrying a dizzying number of notes they can hit, and ways they can combine them. They’re also pretty talkative in the mornings, and common in and around the greater village of Iwagakure. She wasn’t sure why she never chose this form before, but was quickly growing to like it. It wasn’t a hawk, but it was quick.

She warbles for a moment, singing several notes to the other birds in town. "Hello other birds! I’m a bird!”, she would seem to sing to them. Whatever they said in return she was unable to translate. Meanwhile she settles her attention on Taki, wondering how easily she will spy the chuunin.

As the girl would wait for her old friend to arrive she’d spot a small bird landing on her shoulder and would look to the tiny feathered animal. "Huh a boid…?” she’d say thinking on it for a long moment staring at the bird for a long while.

She’d look at the animal for a long uncomfortable second as if something about that animal was familiar. "Why do I feel like I remember dis…like deja vu.” her mind would go back to remembering Ryoko and how she had a fondness for animals and almost always saw her as a bird.

"I feel like I know what kinda boid dis is, if Ryoko was here she'd know…she neva shut up about em.” the girl would then lean back on the wall. "Wonda where she is…anyway, it ain't like her to be late?” as the girl would start to talk one of the guards would look to the bird. "So are you gonna tell her or should I…?” said the first guard.

"Nah I’m enjoying this.” chimed in the second. Taki would look back the group turning too em, "Ey what’re you guys laughing at?” one of the guards would add something in. "You…” they’d joke. "Huh…” she’d then look back at the bird again. "Wait a second…!” it looked like it finally clicked.

Well, she didn’t think it would take very long, but she chirps insults at the gate guards for helping. Not that she thought they’d let her get away with it, just that they couldn’t understand her anyway. A moment later the little mockingbird hops off the post and flutters down to the ground. Just before reaching the ground, however, she’d drop her transformation and turn back into.. Herself.

She has not changed much. She might have grown an inch or so, but not much more than that. Poor girl, always so short.

"Hey Taki!” She says cheerfully enough, though she doesn’t hug anyone. "It’s me! I was da boid da whole time!” she says in her own imitation of Taki’s accent.  She couldn't help herself, it was just way to much fun to talk like that.  

"Of course it’s her. ” mutters one of the guards to the other. Ryoko ignores the comment. In spite of being a nuisance, people never seemed to flat out dislike her. So that was nice

."Course it’s me, even birds aren’t as good at being birds as I am.” She continues in her own snide, but cheerful, tone.

Turning her back on the guards she peers down the path they’d need to travel. A bit of a breeze caused her odd costume to flap gently in the wind, but it was that massive shuriken on her shoulder that always kept her away from hugging people. That and the undying temptation to pick everyone’s pockets.

"That doesn’t make sense..”

Ryoko ignores the peanut gallery, talking over their comments to the genin. "Hope you’re ready to go, there could be all sorts of work to get done. You should get to do lots of punching, and I should get to watch. It’s nice being higher ranked and doing nothing but standing around watching a door all day.”

The gate guards were, of course, well acquainted with Ryoko. They’d known her for years, and only once failed to keep her in the village. Well, once that they knew of. They don’t seem to mind her taunting, and just shake their heads at her antics.

After a moment Ryoko would reveal herself and then Taki would snap her fingers. "Ha! I knew it!” the girl would say with an excited look on her face. "How ya doing Ryoko!” she’d say offering a high five remembering immediately that Ryoko was not the hugging type due to her massive doomstar she always carried around. "Riiight.” she’d say in response to her saying that she was better at being a bird than birds.

She’d ask Taki if she was ready to go and say that she was happy they’d be heading into the caverns since it meant she got to sit and back and watch Taki do all the work. "Heh don’t blink den.” the girl would say, cracking her knuckles. "C’mon let’s go, there’s uhh something I wanted to talk to you about anyway.” the girl would say staring towards the road, it was a long walk so they’d have plenty of time to talk. Thought in the back of her mind Taki had hoped Ryoko didn’t get the wrong idea, Taki had always been very open about her fondness for her friend but this time rather than another attempt to get to try and take her out for a night on the town, this was a bit more of a serious proposition but she wouldn’t come right out with it.

As the two would begin their long trek to the caverns they needed to inspect she’d look to her friend. "So hey…we've been friends for a while but, did I ever tell you about what happened to my uncle?”the girl would ask looking over to her partner as they made their way out of the gates, hoping she’d be willing to answer.

Ryoko falls into step with the slightly younger but significantly taller genin. Anyone on the outside seeing them walk would likely mix up who had the higher rank, but none of that really mattered to her. It was nice to get to walk, one of those things she only did when someone else was there to slow her down. Or at least keep her feet on the ground.

They had indeed been friends for a while, Ryoko pondering a moment on Taki’s academy days, and times shortly after it. They’d been closer to the same size then, but the Okada went and actually grew. Maybe she’d get to grow too.. Or maybe she’d be stuck a little shrimp for the rest of her life.

"Your uncle?” She asks, turning her cowled head to face in Taki’s direction for a moment. Eye contact was one of those things no one ever got while talking to Ryoko due to her hood, but she could still be seen to be paying attention. She shakes her head in reply.

"No, I don’t think you ever did. I assume he was a fighter like you?”

She could speak casually, even walk that way, but as soon as they were leaving the village behind them Ryoko put herself in work mode. Every shadow held a threat, every bush a hidden spy. It’d never do to be caught off guard in their own territory, so while she listens her head turns away, and as it on a steady swivel would scan back and forth as they go. She was the only non-sensory shinobi on her team, so she was well used to being the paranoid one, and relying on her eyes.

Well, were she alone she’d be an animal and relying on more acute senses, but her human eyes were also sharp, and her ears very keen to pick up the sounds of crushed leaves and snapped twigs.

As they left the gates, Taki would take note of Ryo it had been so long since she'd seen her and she was still this short, was all that time she spent as a bird starting to effect her biology, nah couldn't be but it was funny to think about. After asking her question Ryo would respond with a question of her own.

"Well…judging by dat response I guess I neva did tell ya…” It was amazing how long you know someone and how little you can actually know and with this being so important she was a bit surprised she’d never mentioned it, maybe that was a good thing. Ryoko may not have ever returned her feelings but she would always make her feel something. "Nah he wadn’t a fighta he was a shinobi and he’s also da reason I became one too.” this story was always hard to go back too even now so many years on, after nearly 3 years the girl had felt like a failure working so hard and seemingly coming up short, now was her chance but she had to make it count.

"His name was Tetsuya Yuuta, and about 2 years ago…he was captured,went M.I.A after a mission in Konoha.” she’d place her hands in her pockets as they kept moving down the road, glancing over at Ryoko to see if she was paying attention only to notice that she was practically spazzing out, a very Ryoko thing to do but also something Taki felt was a little annoying. "Ey, will you stop dat, you're gonna draw attention to us doin dat, are you even listenin?’” the girl would chastise her friend eyeing her friend as they kept walking.

"I ain’t spazzing, I’m just being careful. We’re out in the wilds, we have to be at least a little careful.” She mutters, her lips positioned in their normal smirk. She did like Taki, she has as much fire as Ryoko did. Neither took no guff, either.

She returns her eyes to Taki with a little shrug. She gives her right hand a little wave, the Doomstar leaving its place over her right shoulder to wheel around behind her and hover in place there. She maintains control of it with her right hand while lifting her left and working through some hand seals.

"I’ll just call up some help now then. Your Uncle wasn’t a fighter but he was a shinobi? Shinobi are fighters though.  I'm listenin'” She mutters while she seals, and seals. It takes her only a few moments to flick through them, but there’s some 10 or 15 in total. Then a number of little puffs of smoke appear one after the other all around her.

There are five in total. Little songbirds, mocking birds like she’d been previously, appear on her arms and shoulders and on her head. A moment later they all go flying off, except for one of the ones on her shoulder. It chirps about before taking to wing and fluttering over to land on Taki’s head. Always a good place to keep watch from.

Flitting about with expert agility they disappear into the surrounding wilderness and begin following the duo at a distance and scouting ahead, and keeping their eyes peeled for danger. It wasn’t that she was really all that nervous of being attacked in her home territory, but she would be taking a very different approach if she were solo. Heck, being human was it’s own issue sometimes.

Getting the jutsu done with now also let her recover some from it’s hefty chakra cost.

DESCRIPTION:
A unique take on the clone jutsu used by shinobi, this forgoes the jutsu capability of Kage Bunshin for a different sort of versatility. After forming hand seals and molding chakra into shape, the user creates one to five clones. These clones do not take the shape of the shinobi, or even the shape of a human. Instead these clones will always take the shape of an animal, chosen by the user at time of creation.

In truth this is a combination of a clone using the transformation technique, however it comes with some issues. The clone can not change shape after creation, nor may it revert to its human form. It may not use any jutsu, and comes with only a minimal amount of chakra inside of it used to maintain their shape. Creations will lose their owner's Physical SA's, however will retain their Mental SA's and passive sensory abilities. Due to the tiny amount of chakra in these constructs, and it being used exclusively to hold their shape, they can not use active sensing SA's.

Like True Transformation, these clones do not have the abilities of the person who made them, but instead have the natural traits of the beasts they take the shape of. They have all the physical abilities of the animals, including movement styles and sensory abilities, but lack any natural venoms or poisons.

Like Shadow Clones, these beasts are able to fight and defend themselves, however will be dispersed by only a moderate amount of damage. They may not use jutsu, however like Kage Bunshin these clones will return their experiences and memories back to the user when they are dispersed. They will not, however, return any chakra, as they had a minimal amount inside them at creation.

It should be noted that this jutsu summons standard animals of standard sizes, and may not summon anything smaller than a mouse or larger than an elephant, nor may it summon elephant sized mice, or cat sized bears. The user may decide the coloration of an animal, but it must be a coloration the animal is capable of. No bright purple giraffes.

As the girl would continue with her musing she’d note that the girl was trying to say that they just needed to be careful. Taki knew that, but just felt Ryo was bein too obvious. "I know I just feel like ya bein too obvious abhat it.” the girl would state. Shortly after the girl would craft a series of handseals and summon a series of birds that would flutter about one of which setting atop her head. She’d chuckle, "How do you always to make everything so fun.” the girl would say a delightful sigh coming out of her mouth, Ryoko always had that effect on her one day she’d get her…if things didn’t change that is.

However, as quickly as the calm went it disappeared the moment the girl had her focus back. "But yeah, I mean yeah shinobi’s are fighta’s but I thought ya meant more like ya know…? Peforma’s.” the girl would say in response to the opening part of her comment. "But long story short, Uncle got kidnapped and I’ve been woikin round the clock in orda to get em back.” the girl would pound her hand into her fists.

"But infiltration the land of fiya is gonna take some work…a team effort and a little boidy tells me that you might be one o da poifect people for da job.” she’d say looking down to her companion. "So what’dya say…? Interested?”

Huh, that was unexpected. She turns her head and gives the other girl a bit of a curious look that is mostly hidden behind her hood.

"I mean, if there’s an Iwa nin being held by our enemies we should be doing everything we can to get them back. Especially if they’re in the land of fire, Konoha is probably our most powerful enemy. One of our nin in their hands means they have access to our secrets, access to our gates, pass codes, patrol routes.. We definitely need to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

She mutters, not loudly but with some concern. She gives another look around the area, growing paranoid again. Walking along paths, what is she, a genin?

"Yeah I guess this is just bigger than me, this effects the entire village.” the girl would think not really having put all of that together. "Yeah, you’re right that’s what I’m talking about Ryo!” she’d say slapping the girl on the back. But as they kept walking there she went being her usual elusive self yet again but she had a point they had a job to do and needed to make sure it got done right.

As the girl took off, Taki would perform a few hand seals to summon her small chimp companion Aki Aki who looked happy to see her as always she’d nod to her little friend and smile. "You know what to do.” the chimp would nod as he merged with the girl and began to gather sage energy on her behalf.

It’d cut down on the time needed for her to have to do it herself and by the looks of things she’d need to be pretty active. With that she’d dash in Ryoko’s direction following along with her as her little summon began to gather energy on her behalf, it wouldn't be much longer until they reached the caverns.

The Aihara gives the Okada an odd look as she summons up a monkey just to hang out. Still, she wasn’t gonna question it. Ninja did things. Heck, she’d summoned birds. Birds that were still working, even as they were walking. Fanning out two that took the lead had flitted through the air to locate some of the caves.

Some time later the duo, plus their various animal companions, would arrive near their objective. Ryoko comes to a rather sudden stop and lifts a hand to signify that Taki should as well. Lingering in the shadowy confines of a tree she’d whisper some to her partner.

"Alright.. One of my birds just popped. It found a cave with a couple mean looking and armed people standing, very obviously, at guard outside of it. Not.. the most subtle of people, but there must be something worth guarding if someone is guarding it.”

"I hate to be the voice of reason but we’re gonna want to be sneaky if we wanna get inside without alerting the entire congregation in there to our presence. If they get to alert and start fighting back, it would end pretty badly for them.”

She shifts an arm behind her as she speaks, digging through her pouch to retrieve a scroll. The Doomstar was a fine weapon, but she didn’t like to use it against civilians. She unrolls the scroll and holds it with her right hand while sealing with only her left. 3 more massive shurikens suddenly appear around her.

They were huge, bulky things but made of solid wood instead of honed steel. The Mercystars, as she called them, were still very capable of crushing skulls.. But were still less dangerous than her steel shuriken. They fall a very short distance before they’re caught on invisible strings, and just hover in place around the duo.

As they stopped this reprieve was exactly what they needed or at least Taki anyway it gave her small gorilla the opportunity to gather the sage energy that he needed. Once there Ryoko had noted that her birds had sensed that there were a few individuals inside. "Our objective is to clear out the caverns so we’ll hafta give em da boot.” the girl would state.

She’d then head stop at the base of the entrance "I say we go inside and politely ask em to clear out if not we place em under arrest. And if they fight back then well dats their problem.” she’d look back at Ryoko.

"I’m got Aki here gathering up sage energy right now I can use it to give us a betta look at this place while we move out, once I transform I’ll letcha if I found anything, just gimme time.” as she stood with Ryoko she’d take a moment to release the sage energy that her partner had stored and would begin to transform into her sage mode state.

From there the hair on her body became far more abundant and her features exuding more animalistic qualities such as darker skin and a sharper teeth. Once the transformation was complete she'd use a portion of the energy to scan the environment noting that she didn't sense any danger in the caverns for now.

"A'ight looks like there more than just them in dere, but I ain't sensing too much, I think most of em are civilians their signatures are pretty small, but there's one big one in there about a little less than you and me combined." as the girl scanned the environment her small chimp companion would continue to meditate. "Nah no need little buddy, I don't think dats necessary."

She eyes the genin with a little smirk as she does her little sensory thing. Seemed Ryoko was the only shinobi left without that magical sensing stuff. Oh well, she did things the old fashioned way. Four birds were left, one of them still lingering near its opening, two others searching for other escape routes the bandits might take.

She had never seen sage mode before, she didn’t have any idea what it was, but she’d seen enough flashy special stuff to know at least how to play it cool. For now she’d just try to figure out what Taki was even doing. Transformation maybe? Partial transformations? Hm.. that idea had merit.

"That’s good. You wanna take the lead? I don’t anticipate them wanting to really let us walk in, but if they put up much of a fight you can knock em out. I’ll just be sure everything stays nice and contained so no one else gets in and no one else gets out.”

She nods a little bit. Made sense to her. Taki was definitely a punch em in the face sort, let her do all the tough stuff. Very few found Ryoko outright intimidating.

"Go ahead and go get em. When they start to retreat just let them go and I’ll wrangle them up all up. If you get to the big one, wait for me. I won’t be very far behind you.”

With that she gives her fingers a flex to test her grip on all four of her toys, then with a little smile gestures for Taki to go have her fun.

With Taki being given the go ahead by Ryoko to make her move. She’d stand up from her stance and would dismiss her small chimp companion feeling as thought his presence wouldn’t be sorely needed. As Ryoko gave the order, Taki would look back at her. "Don’t miss me too much, and try to enjoy the show.” the girl would make her way out to face the guards dispelling/kai'ing out of her sage mode chakra to give her more of a human appearance, thinking that if she arrived looking like more of a monster than a man it might cause extra hostilities. "Sorry guys…but uhh dhis ere is private property…I’m gonna have to ask ya ta hit da road.” with that Taki would await their responses the two men would look between each other and seemed to have a look of flabbergastation.

"Whoa you're her...Bakudan." one of the men would state. Taki would cross her arms before speaking "Sorry but I don't give my autograph ta criminals." she'd reply with a leering gaze in attempt to try and intimidate them. "Hold a moment the same Bakudan from the chunin exams...stay back, these are our shelters, we will not let you kill our people."

Taki would raise her hands, showing she meant no harm feeling a little peeved she normally like recognition but hadn't gotten used to people knowing her as a shinobi rather than as a performer. "And I understand that, but you need ta understand that not taking my orda ain’t in your best interest, ya can't stay ere!” the girls voice was commanding but also calm she didn't want to hurt them so opted for a more peaceful route.

The two men would give a nod too each other, readying themselves for combat. "Then you leave us no choice, we will--” Taki realizing what was coming next as the men readied their weapons would prompt her to lift her leg and perform a quick snap kick to the jaw of one of the guards who would drop like a rock to the ground.

And before the second guard could react Taki would kick him in the gut and wrap her hands around his head and pull him into a headlock only to drop him to the ground with a DDT. She'd remain on the ground for but a moment before kipping herself up off of the floor turning to Ryoko shooting finger guns her direction to let her know the coast was clear. With that out of the way she’d head inside to search the caverns she had a distinct memory of there being one den with a cavalcade of small chakra signatures and she’d quietly approach it and formulate a plan.

Using the elementary level clone technique she’d transform into one of the guards from earlier, and put on a little ventriloquist act. "Eyy, one the guards is down there’s a shinobi out here we need back up!” with Taki’s rouse the guards would make their way out of the caverns and into the light utterly confused when they found their friends unconscious on the ground and were led right into Ryoko’s range.
