It was the home stretch and Yakitsukeru would be lying to say that she cared much about getting caught and disqualified at this point in time. That didn't mean she moved careless still though, being somewhat of a perfectionist, she would move as fast as she could after moving past the roads and hills avoiding people with the terrain as best as she could without slowing more than once or twice. It was when she saw the lake that she finally debated her current condition. She wasn't hurting too badly... not yet anyways. She was not up for taking the whole time it would for her to swim the lake, but rounding it wasn't necessarily faster. Shrugging she would let out a huff as she took another soldier pill and drank some more water before simply sprinting out the last bit around the lake and heading for the city. She didn't need to worry much for the actual catching if she understood the mechanics at all. She had been caught by many riders before, but had not been ousted from her strikes. Which meant only singular catches counted on the matter.

Moving at full speed she would round the lake to the city of Kuwana, taking the wider birth to give some attempt at not being caught, but she doubted she would score worse for wear out of the group of sixty some odd participants... getting a mid-way score was fine honestly. Running into anything she could see before it came up onto her she would do her best to duck out of view, but the run, otherwise, continued.

Sogo wasn't an ass if a little impatient. How do you lose an hour from getting in trouble? Hizuo would have to explain that to her later, but for now they just needed to move it along. Making no illusion to wanting to take it slow, as soon as Hizuo was back Sogo would point wordlessly and drop down onto her shield-board, Marunoko. Activating the Wind-Walk technique for one more blast of speed she waved at Hizuo in good bye as she had no ways of taking him with her. She would need to work on that potentially, but she had a race to tear up first! Blasting forward with the same momentum she had started with Sogo would do her best to turn the massive gap into a much shorter strip of road and lake to cross.

As soon as she would get across the lake she would step off of Marunoko and simply jog the rest of the way carrying the massive weapon over her shoulder. It wasn't the flashy finish, but she also needed some stamina in the tank if she needed to use her shield for combat immediately after or something like that. It was a smart choice! If she got pinged from her lack of care in the travel that was another point that she could care less about.

Shinde was now faced off with what seemed to be an impossible set of choices. Everywhere before her on the outlook, it looked as if there were potential watchers, as she was careful to look out into the distance for what could have been man made structures and or such outlying obstructions in the earth. Pillory boxes. So forth. The last checkpoint was incredibly difficult already, what with the open stretch, the little cover of which to obscure. However, now, she was close to the finale. The end. The last point. So. Really. When faced with that reality, the narrow edge to her left leading to the crash landing? Iruhi considered her options. Before she jumped over the edge. Falling, as opposed to sticking to the main road path itself. As she fell through the air, she formed a singular handseal, as her hair rapidly extended outwards.

"Ranjishigami no Jutsu." Her hair extended, grew sharp as steel, and she'd use it to dig into the mountain's face edifice, as it would allow for her to skid momentarily, and or extend to grasp any sharp and outlying jutting rocks, Afterwards, it'd launch her further, looking to throw her down the side of the path. Afterwards, she would drag herself along along the wall of the mountain downwards and then along. In this way, she would not be in any open vision. There'd be no risk of being spotted by watchtowers which would be planted to watch along the open path, as she was not on the path persay, more so, dangling on an angle of which would be impossible along the stone edifice. Moving her way along like a spider, she'd lay her hair flat against herself on the stone wall, to blend in and camouflage against the stone assuming it was granite or marble. In this way. Stone was actually far more beneficial for a girl like her.

In this way, she could make excellent progress, at a relatively swifter pace, and all it cost was her focus, chakra, and upmost concentration. It didn't matter anyways if she didn't make it. So. With that said, she'd prepare for the final stretch and would look to make it unseen  through what was a difficult situation. It was a difficult spot to be in no doubt, and she was trying her absolute damndest to make it through. Alternatively. Assuming she found a more convenient path, including just dropping down the side of the mountain path now to the potential checkpoint itself, she'd do so, utilizing her hair to catch herself from hitting along the ground.

Sheesh. Kami. She thought she was blessed to have chosen this path initially. Now it just seemed like a hell.

She was prepared to utilize everything in her arsenal to avoid being caught. Diversionary measures or otherwise, but right now, she needed to focus. Keep her senses keen and sharp.

NAME: Ranjishigami no Jutsu - [Wild Lion's Mane Technique]

RANK: B

CHAKRA USAGE: Medium

CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [General]

ELEMENT: None

HANDSEALS: 1

DESCRIPTION:

Chakra poured into the user's hair will extend violently, reaching out like many dense tendrils of fibers. The hair, becoming hard and tough like steel, aims to ensnare and bind targets within thirty meters, their sharpened tips boring into their bodies as it seemingly stitches them while knotting around them. This works well to halt the movements of even massive beasts, not to mention halt several dozen shinboi at once. These tendrils are capable of shaping their ends into what appears to be a lion's mouth, filled with a maw filled with razor sharp iron-rending teeth. Hungry for blood, the beastly endings to these binding tendrils work to finish off whatever prey the user may have caught. With the amount of hair created on average, shinobi are typically able toe create up to twelve individual massed tendrils of hair.

Tsuri was definitely on a bit of a time crunch, and it was that exact reason she would finally break out the speed she could get from what she had. Which was to say; swimming as fast as she could into what was obviously a lake. From under the water as she got close to the section that she knew was closer to the main road from beneath the waves she would again break out Machigai and cast it out with the piston shot like a harpoon to latch to the underside of boats in places that would not cause damage as she use the boats to speed up her swimming in bursts that otherwise had her slowed.

Reaching the lake on the far end where the docks connected to the end of the lake Tsuri would surface after removing her rebreathing equipment. Shivering from the chill of difference in temperature. She would begin to shake out as she moved. Even if her clothes were water-proof with credit to Ame for the clothes design to be such, it did not stop her from still losing some body heat.

Moving at a decent pace afterwards Tsuri would move for the entrance and end of the race.

KILLING YOUR IDOLS IS A CHORE

Slow and careful was working for the most part, apparently. Sadako was getting impatient, the desire to sprint for the finish line that seemed so easily within their grasp rising up inside, but she mustered every ounce of discipline she’d ever poured into her training and locked her impulses down. They’d only been spotted once, they were nearing the final destination, and they still had ten hours left on the clock. She could do this. They could do this.

It had ended up being a pretty good choice, taking the kid under her wing. He was pulling his weight well enough and his ideas weren’t half bad. Now they just had to make it to the finish line.

Though they’d started out on the left mountain path, their proximity to the left plains path had blurred the lines between them at some point, and now they were more or less completely within the left plains route… which meant tight security made up of frequent patrols and tight-knight roadblocks.

When they were in a relatively sheltered position, Sadako once again hunkered down and gestured for Junichi to huddle in so they could strategize.

"Alright, here’s what’s up,” she whispered. "We can’t go through those bottlenecks, it’s obviously a stupid trap and they’re spotting people somehow, we gotta go around. Taking it slow and being careful has been working, so go around the roadblocks. We hunker down, stay low, and wait for the shift change, and take advantage of that to slip past. I still have three flashbombs that I can start dropping if shit goes sideways. Then there’s the trenches.”

Normally Sadako was a sullen, dour girl, and that certainly would’ve been Junichi’s experience of her thus far—but now her mouth pulled into a self-satisfied smirk as she pointed at Junichi’s fuma shuriken.

”Substitution,” she whispered emphatically. "Once we get within range of the trenches, I’ll throw that thing overhead and you can use body replacement to get over the finish line. Then I’ll use whatever flashes I have left and try to sprint through after. I might get spotted, but I can eat one of those as long as we’re careful getting through to the trenches.”

She was obviously pleased with herself, and had slowly been getting more and more immersed in the exercise as the hours wore on. She was admittedly tired—they were reaching the end of what had been a very long day—but she refused to flag in effort now that their goal was in sight.

If Junichi agreed to her suggestion she would lead the way forward—though the way forward would undoubtedly involve a lot of waiting. Taking advantage of the shift change she would keep low and try to creep around, her ever-faithful flash grenade still in hand, being sure to keep a slow and cautious pace… unless the clock started running out, in which case she would forgo caution in favor of picking up the pace. And once the trenches were in sight, she would gesture for Junichi’s shuriken, then try to follow their plan through to the end.

ROUND 1 - ROTATION 6 -- 514
tl;dr: Sadako's plan is to continue keeping low and going slow. Go *around* the road instead of through the roadblocks. Wait for shift changes in order to slip past while guards are distracted and moving. Once at the trenches, will take Junichi's fuma shuriken and throw it high & over the finish line so that Junichi can use substitution jutsu to get to the end, then throw whatever flash bombs she may have remaining and sprint to try to finish as well.

Exhaustion was starting too set in. Not only had he used his most advanced technique back in the orchard, but now he was literally carrying a part of this team on his back while body flickering. Thankfully they'd get past unspotted once again, a perfect track record so far. As for their time, well all Suzaku knew was that it was getting late and he hadn't really been keeping track of any of the other contestants to compare with since going underground. When they'd stop, Jace would feel like collapsing, the fiery haired boy dropping the weight on his shoulders unto the ground, before leaning against a rock, panting. We have to be almost at the end, right? It was more a question of wishful hoping then sincerity, he was sure there was more where this had come from. Especially right in front of them, the young boy not needing his eyes in the sky to see what they were doing. They were creating a bottleneck, Getting past that isn't going to be easy... Should have taken it easier if you were going to get caught anyways. Fighting so hard just to end up more tired when caught.

Chittering caws besieged the group from across them, the two bozo birds perched on the ground. Suzaku picked up a small rock to throw at them in retaliation, causing a cry of protest at this uncalled for assault, but they were right about one thing. He was still panting, still tired. Was this what it had been like for Azarea when she'd been digging those tunnels underground? How was she still going so strong. The crimson headed girl just kept impressing him. And once again, she came up with a plan for them. Though this time, Suzaku was hesitant.

There's no way a civilian would just go along with that right? Like, they'd definitely yell or something and then we'd just hope we don't get stopped...A distraction would be nice... As Suzaku tried to think, the complaints from his ruffled feathered compatriots were still coming in, accusations and insults flying at the boy who had managed to become enemy-number-one of crowkind. Shut up, you're both distracting m-... His eyes lit up, his bird pupils shining as he stared at the most annoying problem solvers around. I think I have an idea to cover our tracks... First he abuses us, then he wants to use us. A preview into what his marriage life will be like, for sure. And once again, Suzaku threw another rock at them.

And soon their plan would be set into action, Suzaku creating the hand seals for Substitution Jutsu, finding a young male his size to mark, and then using Transformation Jutsu to appear like him. You're talking like this is the end. The boy whispered, hoping to prepare for whatever came after this. But first, they had to get through this without getting caught. And so when his mark crossed the checkpoint, Suzaku would try and switch places with him. And upon switching, Ja and Dō would be watching from the sky, waiting for the person he switched with too react. And once they started too the black covid would dive into the crowd, turning three confused civilian yells into five, ten, and more as he riled up the people where they'd switched with to make it seem like a bird was the cause of the commotion behind them.

TL;DR

-Is very tired from having to carry the team Natsuo while using body flicker
-Sits down when they stop, hoping this is almost over, as he's not really sure how far in they are or their time
-Sees the bottleneck and trenches, and what they're trying to do. Things are getting harder
-It's not animal abuse if the animals are jerky mcjerkfaces. Also points out Azarea's plan has a chance of getting caught on its own
-Realizes he has the perfect set of distractions to cover them
-Marks his target for Body Replacement Technique, making the needed handseals before transforming into target
-Points out Azarea's talking like it's all over, before substituting with target
-Upon substitution, Ja and Dō dive into part of crowd where they'd been, making it seem like the confusion is from birds instead of body replacement

DESCRIPTION:
After performing the necessary hand seals (one post prior to the technique's use) and locating a nearby object within a 10 meter radius (typically a log or something of similar size to their body.), the user switches places with the said object just before an attack lands, creating an optical illusion. During the small interval where they have left their opponent surprised, they may take the time to attack or flee.

SA:
Kyoukou Kousai
Like all children born in the Kyuumu, Suzaku had his eyes taken out and replaced with crow eyes when he was just a baby. And while this sounds gruesome, the benefits of such an operation that the boy can't even remember are undeniable. His kinetic vision is enhanced to a degree far beyond normal human levels, able to trace movement and speeds that most would have difficulty processing as if they were moving in normal speeds, and with clear enough vision he's able to pick out small details at the same time, even from great distances as he can see far beyond human limits as well. He also effectively has night vision, needing only the bare minimum of light to make out things in great detail, and even make out magnetic fields which allow him to tell the direction of North as long as he can see. However, this enhanced eyesight also means things like artificial lights can give him a headache if he stares at them as he can see their rapid flickering, and if he can't see at all its all moot.

On top of this, like all Kyuumu, the boy is fully capable of understanding all birds and being able to talk with them. He is much more proficient at this then when hes talking too people, feeling much more comfortable talking to birds as it's something he's done his whole life. However, when multiple birds are talking at once it's the equivalent of being surrounded in a crowded street, and the boy can be easily overwhelmed as he's not yet experienced enough too make out the different conversations.

Kinetic Vision
While all Kyuumu have exceptional movement based vision, Suzaku is exceptional even among other Kyuumu, things often managing to appear as if they're moving in slow motion as he is able to process high speeds to such a high degree. This not only let's him pick out details of high speed moving things, but lets him react to them better as well, not because his reflexes are better but simply because they appear slowed to him.

Inunaki Itsuko Avatar

age 18 years old birthday dec 7th rank adv. genin occupation
As the river began to widen and change form, Itsuko felt a flicker of hope, the promise of the water's end and a close to this marathon. But, when the river opened up into a vast lake, she deflated just as quickly as she'd risen. Still there couldn't be much left in front of her, nor could she really afford for there to be.

Despite her natural advantage coming into this portion of the competition, she got the feeling she was lagging behind. In fact, she wasn't sure she'd finish at all upon seeing the expanse of water sprawl out before her.

If she wanted to finish she needed to change up her strategy. While her energy form gave her a significant advantage when it came to physical obstacles or being seen, moving through water like this was slowing her down. She was lightning after all, she should be done already.

As far as she'd clocked at the beginning, few people had chosen the central canal route. If a ton had, she would have probably stuck to her guns, afraid to give future opponents too much of an advantage against her. But she'd only really noticed one or two others at the start so she felt a bit emboldened.

Taking care to avoid being spotted by the guards lining the water's edge, Itsuko raced to the luxury docks, coming out of her energy form as she arrived. There, she sunk low and proceeded under the shade of docks overhead before climbing out of the water and making her way behind a large boathouse, employing the camouflage technique to avoid anyone who happened to look over.

Straight across the lake was what seemed to be the finish. While the girl was exhausted, this was the last leg. She would have plenty of time to rest later. It was time to start sprinting.

With a flurry of seals, her form changed once again, resembling a twisting and volatile mass of lightning made of raiton chakra. As soon as the change occurred she was off, speeding over the surface of the lake. This time, due to her not moving through a conductive substance, she was significantly faster. Of course, in exchange for that speed, she was also easier to spot.

TLDR; she zap but faster this time (equal to + speed enhancement SA)

Jutsu Counter: 1 Low, 2 Very Low, Minimal Drain

NAME: Kami no Bodi Kaminari [Divine Lightning Body]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low [Activation, Drain is constant but minimal]
CLASSIFICATION: Hijutsu
ELEMENT: Raiton
DESCRIPTION:

The pinnacle of being a Tetsumaki. By using the iron rich blood within a Testumaki, the raiton stored within the body the user can quite literally transform either their whole body (organs included) or parts of the body into pure lightning. This makes physical attacks nigh on impossible to connect properly since the opponent is quite literally punching lightning.

The Tetsumaki in this form can use conductive surfaces to transfer themselves through, including but not limited to metals, water and other reactive surfaces. A bonus to this technique is the ability to move at increased speeds in straight lines (add one rank's speed plus a speed SA). The user cannot turn while using this part of the technique, so if one can match the speed or perceive it, it could easily be dodged.

As with all lightning techniques, Kami no Bodi Kaminari has a natural weakness to mokuton techniques. Fuuton techniques can expel the Tetsumaki from the form. Physical attacks from the user are also null unless using clan jutsu specifically for said attacks.

Yasuraka Hitsukai Avatar
groupSand Shinobi
age 26 years old birthday 07/23/-17SD rank Adv. Genin occupation Genin Team Member
It seemed the risky gamble Hitsukai had made in an attempt to prove to both himself and those that might be observing these trials that he could in fact sneak through a checkpoint directly; rather than going around it like he had done up until that point had somehow managed to work.

Hitsukai took full advantage of his lack of suspicion, using the opportunity to rest a moment and tend to his feet. While he was not as worse for wear as some might expect, it was not as if the strains of traveling did not affect him at all. More than anything though it provided an opportunity to slow his heartbeat some while offering meditation to Bishamon.

While he had said his daily prayers upon the boat, he couldn't be sure how much longer he might need to continue this race. It would be a shame for him to reach the finish line only for Bishamon to punish him for his lack of diligence by stripping his gifts. Once the prayers were finished and his body rested to an acceptable level, taking no more than twenty minutes or so; Hitsukai was moving forward once again. However due to the more busy streets he was forced to take a less expedient pacing to try and avoid suspicion.

After some amount of time walking as fast as he could without actively moving into a jog, Hitsukai eventually came to the checkpoint where large groups of individuals were being stopped, only to be allowed through as said group. Naturally the sight seemed a bit strange to Hitsukai. It was hardly enough time to check papers, but it also did not seem as if they were doing it for no reason at all. Of course, Hitsukai could not fully understand the limits of any jutsu they might be using to detect participants, but he could at least understand that they were doing something at this checkpoint.

The monk stopped roughly a hundred yards before the checkpoint, bending down and busying himself with redoing one of his foot wrappings as if it had come loose. Of course this was all just a means of stalling for time while he considered his options. He could try to just walk through, but they obviously were checking the crowd in some manner. Why else would they be stopping similarly sized groups before letting them pass. He could try to just rush through the checkpoint. In all honesty he did not think they would physically prevent him passing and he had come far enough through the race that it did not matter if he was spotted now, but part of him wished to try and complete the race without being spotted if possible.

After careful consideration Hitsukai arrived at a third option. It was nothing fancy to be sure, in fact he would just be reusing a tactic he had used only two checkpoints back. The plan was to use his remaining smoke-bombs to sow some amount of chaos in the crowd and while the guards were distracted with that, he would move in along the edge of the crowd and smoke cover. Unlike before however he did not need to have the smoke cover particularly thick, so his goal would be to throw the smoke-bombs so they would detonate a bit high in the air. This would mean the smoke could spread out more as it came down, making the smoke cover wider, but also less dense. Furthermore, rather than using it as a distraction and moving a completely opposite direction, his plan was to try and stick as close to the edge of the smoke as he could. Ideally he would be able to avoid the guards in the center near the main crowd, but still use the slight concealment of the thinned smoke to obscure him from any guards away from the checkpoint seeing him so easily.

It was a long shot and Hitsukai knew that, but it seemed the best option for him with his limited resources, skill set unsuited for such a task and the sheer daunting amount of guards that seemed to be in this near final stretch of the course. Having reached a plan, Hitsukai began to swipe dust away from his robes as he took a deep breath before beginning to gulp down even more air through the *Heavenly Inhalation Technique.

As soon as he was satisfied with the amount of air he had, his hands quickly darted into the interior pockets of his robes where they grabbed his remaining four smoke-bombs. His hands and arms gathered what strength they could and lobbed them from some distance, hoping to get them to detonate in the desire space above the crowd's heads.

Immediately afterwards Hitsukai ducked down into a low stance and began bounding his way forward. Nothing was spared, with the *Rabbit Walk, *Heavenly Stride and even the *Irregular Dodging techniques all being used to both speed his movement and allow him to more easily traverse around the various pedestrians of the crowd while remaining low to the ground. As soon as the monk hit the edge of the smoke he bellowed out:

"They're trying to rush through the center!"

The words erupted at a full shout, fueled by the stored air within his lungs. Immediately after doing so, Hitsukai pivoted from the edge of the smoke at the center and ran along the edge, keeping his head down and mentally offering a prayer to Bishamon that his plan would work. He only needed them to be focused elsewhere long enough for him to move along the edge of the smoke and get past the checkpoint. Once past he could try to blend into the crowd once more and act the part of a startled bystander just trying to get away from the commotion as quickly as possible.

We can go the distance

It was something of a miracle, really, that the Triumphant Trio had found themselves remaining completely unspotted thus far. Even if much of it felt like the act of his fableweaver scribbling away at his pages, luck was a skill all onto itself, wasn't it? The next (major) impeding obstacle was that of a lake. Every instinct in his cells prods him at once, suggesting that the quickest route from point a-to-b was always a line, and that if they were shinobi, it was likely to be expected that they blitz right over the water. There were even plenty of buoys to leverage or hide behind! Of course, even for a complete idiot like himself, sometimes he manages to shake off his first instinct and actually apply a little thought to the situation at hand-- mostly because Koji had already started veering off to follow the coast of the lake instead of going right over it.

No, no, that seems almost too obvious, doesn't it? Like a shortcut that said 'hit this bullseye with a kunai for a free ride to the end'. Like one of those crimson flounders.

As such, he instead defers to the judgement of his compatriot, charging near to him. Atagi's got nothing with which to put on an impromptu camouflage cloak on with, nor does he have the spare brainpower to even think of a plan like that-- he tries his best to keep objects on the coast inbetween him and the shinobi keeping a lookout, but in all truth if he can see the proctor it's likely they've seen him way in advance, making the point moot. Eyes that's probing, but not quite wary or anxious, drift from K to K and back again. Koume probably has enough energy to spare, full of vigour as she seemed, and he had his usual Uzumaki-trademarked ever-moving-object spirit, but Koji requires at least a tiny bit of worrying about- shinobi had more stamina than many, but running moving for hours would start to chip away at anyone's stamina.

It'd be one of the last things he let happen that he let the Hono fall short before the finish line-- they'd drag each other across before even so much as thinking about letting someone not complete the trial after all they've been through.

Jutsu and Such:

TLDR: Team grass makes a beeline around the lake instead of straight over it, because going over it seems too obvious and cliche for shinobi and therefore the wrong answer. Atagi prepares to literally carry either of his teammates on the offchance they collapse or whatever because godsda*nit they've come this far together and it's No Shinobi Left Behind.

Race in the Shadows!
As a select few would learn the hard way not all paths lead to the finish line. It'd seem most would either miss or struggle with the security at the last stretch. There was little in environmental cover to pass the bunker with shinobi watching from it. They were quick to mark any civilian attempt as suspicious and thus a spot. Though for many the destination was now more important than the goal of going unseen. Rightfully so to many who'd known from the rules they were immune from disqualification this round.

Upon reaching the finish line, it'd become clear it was either a tunnel or old mine entrance. A proctor waiting for them would open the entrance, they'd be holding a stop watch and gesture for the person to hurriedly enter. Closing the door behind them as they entered, the contestants would each be given a slip with a letter on it. These letters would coincide with different paths ahead and the contestants would be informed to follow the designated path.

Depending how shortly after one another arrived, it'd be fairly easy to deduce that these letters were assigned by the position in which someone arrived. Each letter gaining four people until there weren't enough people to make a group.

Round One: Checkpoint 6 Results

This marks the end of round one, if your name isn't crossed out than you've managed to make it through round one! You'll be starting round two in groups of five, they'll be no real break between the end of this round and the start of the next one. HOWEVER, if you're in a group where you arrived significantly earlier, you'll have those hours of rest. Though that'll mean very little for recovering chakra, stamina or any limited use techniques. The Ama coyly forfeits under the pressure of an immediate round two.
