She neither confirms nor denies the village though that is perhaps telling enough on it's own. Not that an outsider would ever likely believe her should she tell them just who had stolen her heart. Instead a soft non-commental hum rises from her throat. The steady throb of her headache easing as the static of Sozin's signature abates somewhat. Yet the fingers that find his arm are gentle and firm in their solidarity where they rest against his cloth covered skin with a reassuring pressure. "Love makes fools of us all." She murmurs her words wry and mournful. Her for believing that the Head of the Hyuuga might not yet be forced to choose his clan over her and him for believing a woman he'd met barely a handful of times would love him as fiercely as he loved the idea of her. Such bitter stupid fools the both of them.

But the Kumo shinobi accepts the change of topic with grace, her fingers falling away from the Councilmans arm as she fells in step beside him. Her eyes glancing over the names and faces of the departed. "Death at times is a mercy," She admits having no delusions in regards to how close she had come to it nor the fact that had the odds not favored her that it would have been a fate far preferred to living ever more with silence.

"When I was young my Mother told me that it was best to die quick and quiet without a word spoken or live so long your enemies are ashamed to hurt you anymore..." Lifting a gloved finger she traced the pads of the leather over the slashmark across her cheek, "I took those words to heart."

She didn't comment on his reply and he had already moved on past it - so whether or not she thought to confirm if it was Konoha or not, it didn't matter since other topics were on his mind.

"A poor family, it seems. You'd mentioned..." Not in the detail she did now. "We lose family, friends - loved ones to our lives. For many, shinobi-ism is a passion. All to hatred. And evil." It was also good to assert that while the familiar static came into retuning. She had put her hand to her face much like she had done to him with both, and he would only nod - turning away as to give her space. Then, finally, swivelling on the back of his heel and crunching by gravel and snow.

"If that's enough of that, we should do something a little more fun, now?" He had done what he set out to do in paying his respects at the temple, had already learned a bit more about Kumogakure and still yet had time to for an hour to pass. Glorious. Intertwining the good and the bad made life: Sozin was happy to acknowledge that and move on.

"Not all of us I'm afraid can be gifted with the happiest of childhood home lives," Azarea quips with a loose shrug, but seems unbothered by his words. The furrow of her brow stemming instead from the damnable buzz returning as the pair exited the temple and made their way out into the snow slipping on their boots once more to venture down the steps. As the Kunoichi continued where she left off guiding them down the smaller back roads towards the little ice skating rink she knew to be in the area.

The 'rink' really just a large shallow fenced off pond a few local vendors had set up stalls around with hot foods and a place to rent skates. As Azarea lead Sozin to one such booth nearest the ice that had an array of the bladed shoes on display as she selected her size and then glancing down at the Councilman's feet hazard a fairly close guess of his own as she paid the stall vendor. "We can store our shoes over there," She points to a little segmented cubby holder near the rink as she settles down on one of the benches slipping off her boots to tug on and lace up the skates. Storing her own footware before she moves to assist Sozin with his if he needs it. Once both of them were appropriately attired she'd step out on the ice. Taking a few gliding steps before she spun to face him and came back to Sozin with a smile, cheeks a little pinker with the joy of it all as she offered him a gloved hand to steady himself with should he wish it.

"Come on out Councilman. The ice is fine." She teases with a warm laugh.

Finally guided out to the ice, out of the temple and to a ice rink, was good. It wasn't much further than the temple had been.

He would store his shoes, retrieve his other shoes. He sat himself down, got the boots on. Knives on his feet was a choice - since it was hard to separate the Shinobi from the man, he wondered if there were a style that used knifes on the feet: kick boxing, but the kick could remove pieces of your body. Deadly. Useful: unexpected. He could easily tie his own boots, though they were a bit particular and unwrapped: up the left, over to the right, back to the left: and a loop at the top. Walking on it to begin with was easy.

Lift one leg up- move forward, leg down. The balance wasn't too difficult out on the stonier smooth material. On the ice? Yeah. That wouldn't be too difficult - he moved through the gate that separated the 'rink' - that was, the pond, to the rest of the vendors separating it.

"Shouldn't be too difficult." and Sozin stepped out on to the ice. The familiar tension of his core working - and his legs taking stance was all familiar to him, and he pushed himself off lightly, before making his first movement.

"This is fin-" Sozin would say as his initial slide across the ice, and he would try to make a turn. Going on the ice was a completely different battleground that he was not familiar with, but like the swing of a Katana - the rhythm was there and he had it.

A very light shing of metal against a likewise material resounded out loud as one adult human went 'ass over tit' as the saying tended to go, Sozin went. Straight on his back, legs in the air as he'd turned into an inverted prawn out on the ice. A grunt of exertion and wind leaving his body would, of course, leave his body with all of the force of an embarrassed, powerful Shinobi capable of exerting chaos wherever he went could do. Only the chaos was brought unto him as peace was interrupted on an otherwise equally pleasant and confusing day.

Sozin laid there for a few seconds, contemplating whether or not to just call it quits there and then - before rolling over on his side, then to his knees, where he would put his hands on them. A few people were laughing. Some red would come to his face.

It was just the cold messing with him, obviously.

Laughter & Mirth

As Sozen by-passes her offered hand striding out onto the ice for a moment it appears as though the man would be a natural. His movements steady and graceful the balance of a swordsman serving him well at least until he goes to make a turn and then... well ass over teakettle would perhaps be an apt term as his feet get away from the man. The Councilman going down feet and legs up in an image that reminds Azarea entirely too much of one of her beetles when they get stuck on her back as the man slowly slides across the ice. Truthfully it's not the fall that breaks Azarea's composure... but the look of absolute stunned puzzlement on Sozin's usually carefully composed face followed by a look of mortified calculation every man, woman, and child, has in their life where they wonder if it's worth it to just die right there or if they have to continue living with the current terrible timeline of their actions. As breathless giggles spill from between Azarea's lips in little puffs of mist as she tries to muffle her mirth.

The woman take a few slow strides forward as she digs in her heel to stop herself before reaching down to grab hold of Sozin's arm in an attempt to pull him up to his feet and forgets one critical tid bit of information. On ice, unless one remembered to apply chakra, there was no traction to ground oneself. However having spent most of her time skating alone it had been years since the red head had needed to assist someone else as this time it was Sozin's turn to glimpse the flash of shocked surprise on Azarea's face. As pulling him forward she goes over backwards landing with a sharp 'Oof!' on her back on the ice this time with Kusa Councilman half splayed over her torso as both shinobi land in an inelegant heap. The whole situation simply too much for Azarea her shoulders trembling as laughter bright and raucous and full of amusement and joy spill from the woman's lips. Her fangs on full display as she just lets herself flop backwards her crimson hair pooling across the ice like freshly spilled blood as she gave into the whole absurdity of the situation.

"Oh Kami Sozin~!" Her words perhaps not in the manner of how he'd initially hoped she'd evoke the name of the gods in the same sentence as his, "If you really wanted to put me on my ass so badly you could have just asked for another spar!" She teases him with a bright toothy grin fangs on full display and scarlet eyes alive with mirth.

Sozin's face burned brighter at the giggle from Azarea in particular. It hurt a little to have random strangers: but someone he knew, his usually cool as a cucumber temperament had been broken for a time. She was quick to his rescue, as she glided across the ice with so much more grace. He took a breath - sighed loudly and offered out his hand as well.

"Thanks," Fights had been started and ended in less time. Kirigakure's Sage: Takigakure's aberration. All would be well for a moment, the weight was not evenly distributed, and she would fall before he could even come to a stand: and so while his knees started to move up, he let them buckle in lieu of trying to fall flat on his front, and holding onto her hand with some grip, she would lightly spin as well.

"Kami indeed," Sozin laughed as well. It helped not being the only person, and he did sort of wonder if she'd done it on purpose to save him face. He adjusted his hair, moved the robes from its currently uncomfortable position, and would try to help her get up at the same time.

Had he not learned of the woman's placement in life from the cleaning in the temple, he might've responded 'or a room.' Instead, there and then - he was still embarrassed. It was unbecoming of a Councillor. "I didn't do that on purpose," Sozin sputtered. But, it was his attempt this time to pull her.

Sozin was strong, for what it was worth. A man who walked with shy of half a tonne on the lower half of his legs for sport, would move his hand up her arm, to her bicep, and as he came to a shy stand, would grip and lift her as though she weighed nothing; inconvenience equal to a bag of groceries to civilian.

With his skinny physique, it was easy to forget that he was still a Shinobi. Standing still would be... enough for now. But movement? On his feet, balancing on a knife's edge on two sides, both with uneven - but smooth ice, meant that it was difficult. It was new. But any such thing could be learned with practise...

"I know," She assures him her smile a little softer, a little kinder, taking sympathy on the man given how hotly the councilor's cheeks burned and the man's clear embarrassment. As she reaches out a gloved hand to pat him atop the head ruffling the carefully coiffed hair once more. This time channeling a spark of chakra down through her limbs to help anchor the two of them as Sozin braces against her and rises to his feet. Managing to lift Azarea bodily up without need of leverage by pure strength alone as the woman remains hanging in his grip her scarlet eyes blinking back at him in surprise before he finally sets her on her feet. The earlier tension between them broken

"Well shall we go arm and arm my good councilman?" Azarea offers holding out her arm to Sozin to link with as she nods towards the rest of the expanse of the rink. Seeing as neither of them would make any progress simply standing still. "I promise it's actually rather fun once you get used to it." She murmurs voice pitched low for his ears only as she nods towards a small group of giggling children as they skate and slide across the ice.

"It feels a bit like flying," And maybe a lot like falling, but the man was certain to get the hang of it in short order.

The cold was returning to his face, because it was burning a little bit less and his blood wanted to return back to the inside of his body. She would ground herself using chakra and he got a slight shiver as while he couldn't feel or know that she had, it was a probable, but unknown, psychosomatic response. "Yeah... I'm sure I'll get it..." Sozin would be spending a lot of time staring down at the floor rather than around him and where he was going: but he would look up every little second second or so.

It helped a lot that she had fallen too - and he wondered if she had done it on purpose or if she truly had not seen it. She didn't ... need to use chakra instinctively, and may had thought she didn't need to, to get him up. He did remain arm in arm with her - his other arm out: bent, but keeping himself steady as he was fighting with the two knives edges against the icy floor. It was a war on two fronts.

He had never known how much he used his ankles and knees and his core for it. But, they were moving! He supposed it would be more fun if he was better at it. If there was speed involved, yeah, he could see how that would be fun. Right now though, his concentration was knitted together as he combined his movements.

Maybe it had been just a little on purpose to make Sozin feel better, but Azarea was unlikely to tell. The Kumo nin instead keeping a firm grip where their arms were linked to steady the man as slowly they took a loop around the rink. The Councilman concentrating so hard on the stop and start of his feet and how to skate as she guided him that she hoped he wouldn't feel the fact she was slowly letting up pressure on the man's arm. At least not until he would be able to look up to ass Azarea smiling, skating along beside him, as he moved on his own.

"Not too bad Sozin-san." She'd encourage with a soft wry chuckle as she kept an eye out on their surroundings to ensure no excitable kids might crash into the man or herself and repeat the prior process. Their breath misting in thee cool air in little puffs of smoke as for the first time Azarea strayed from his side to go get the two of them a hot chocolate. Coming back moments later with two disposable lidded cups of the sweet treat as she offered one out to the man.

"Here. Cocoa is good for the soul." The Kumo nin quips with a small playful smirk.

Their first loop would already have Sozin finding his balance sooner rather than later. Now, it wasn't 'let's do a jump across ice' - and he wasn't gliding like a dancer through the air, but he was definitely not falling. Not falling was better than anything else, so he would take it - even if it was being done with a red headed handicap.

Until he looked up and saw her having effectively been... beside him - the touch she had displayed previously had slowly slipped off him, until he was standing upright and he was looking up at her rather than at the floor.

And, tentatively, is when he started to slip again: but bending at the knees and going toward them to almost 'touch them' - would not fall. Nearly slip? Yes. The same group of children resounded with an 'awww.' - causing Sozin to send the most unholy glare at them. But, it was without the faint noise that usually accompanied him.

Sozin would take the item from her as she disappeared and he would use it to try and get some more graceful movement in: the small circular movements casting him forward, until she sped over at him with much more grace than he could muster: and all but shoving a cup in his hand - so he believed. Sozin would nod and bow very slightly. "Thank you." It was hot, and his cold fingers could feel it - he would try it out though.

And that by itself was an improvement to the food he'd refused or nearly didn't accept on two separate occasions. Though he still wondered all the same if it could have contained something that would incapacitate him later. Organised tomfoolery could still play around, since he hadn't seen where or how it had come from - whether through the aid of others or by Azarea herself.

And besides... he trusted her a bit more now. He hoped she felt the same. "I only learned of chocolate a while back." Sozin had had chocolate, it was made for him in the shape of custom shaped chocolates. But prior to that as a Shinobi... they were luxuries and not a part of his usual eating lifestyle. It had somehow evaded him. But, he would try to continue making small movements as he drank. It was not as warm in his mouth as it was hot on his fingers.

Sweet Memories

Azarea would stick her tongue out playfully at the group of kids, pulling a face at them that had them giggling and scampering off across the ice. As the woman herself shook her head sending her crimson mane of locks every which way in her amusement, "Kids," She grumbled in exasperation, but her voice was far too fond to really possess any ire towards the children. If anything though the woman tried to deny it she had a bit of a soft spot for them. With the group gone off to the otherside of the rink however that left Sozin and Azarea to skate in peace as they sipped on their drinks.

The hot chocolate was warm and sweet made with a mix of water and milk that left it a little thin, but what could one expect from a rink side stand? It was no less good however. The heat of the drink contrasting against the cold air nipping at their faces as they skated across the ice. "I'd never tried hot chocolate before coming to Kumo." She admits given Hi no Kuni's warmer weather did not particularly facilitate the drinking of the beverage.

"Then again chocolate wasn't really a thing for me until my genin team so there's no reason to feel left behind," Azarea murmurs her face warming with a gentle smile, "My teammate... Izanagi. He had a terrible sweet tooth and sticky fingers. Our first day together he stole an entire box of chocolate bars and we hid out and ate them. Of course that was the day we learned that our other teammate Tsuki has an intolerance to chocolate and we wound up having to take him to the emergency room." She explains with a wry chuckle.

"When was your first time trying it?" She questions glancing up at him with an encouraging smile, cheeks pink from the cold, and scarlet eyes bright. The sugary treat doing more then a little to help soothe the low building migraine between her eyes.

She would ask in return his experience, and perhaps this was the way of human connection - sharing memories and values until they were friends. It did wrack his brain. But - there was a reason why he was able to give her an answer, and it had not been lost to another life.

"I was on a date with a much older woman than me. At a festival." Sozin wouldn't elaborate, nor give her any indication that it was a festival from the culture of Tsuchi no Kuni: knowing that it could have been too easy to connect dots if he provided many dots for her to connect. But - he was also telling the truth. It had never been something that registered with him, they were calorific - small, so how could they be enjoyed so much?

Something that he would never understand.

It had been someone important to him at a time. It had faded, since: something he had been uncertain of, had to fight too hard for. Someone whom he would have not been there talking with Azarea today had it not been for her complexes. It brought a sour taste to his mouth. He desired to have - His nostrils flared a little bit. Had it been many others, Sozin would have come out with a vague answer like from another life, or some non-important scenario like from a stall. It would be an easy white lie for him, as well when the truth was he wouldn't have known otherwise.

"An intolerance to chocolate, I wouldn't have known existed." What other intolerances did people have? Weak bloodlines, that's what he thought. But he also could see why it was a known memory to her. "And what of your teammates now?" Sozin would ask, carrying on in the memories that seemed pervasive to a ninja's life. It was all they had at the end of the day.

It must not have been a pleasant memory from the way Sozin's chakra writhes with resentment. The man's jaw tightening and his gaze appearing to sharpen as if baring witness to an old enemy though the only thing here to fight against was the cold, "I hope," Azarea murmurs her gloved hand coming to rest lightly upon Sozin's arm so as to not startle or unbalance the man, "That with time those old associations can be overwritten with newer better memories." It's a small wish, but kind and something more realistically within their grasp then baseless pleasantries.

Though Azarea's expression would mirror Sozin's own as he asked about her teammates. Her jaw tightening and resentment at the world flaring within her eyes like coals breathed to life, "My teammates for now are beyond me reach." She admits knowing all too well that saying so much as a word about Tsukimono could endanger him and truthfully they had yet to locate Izanagi.

"But they are mine. I keep what is mine." Azarea states with no uncertainty. She'd lost too much with her exile to ever let anyone take from her again.

"You're own?" She asks because surely at some point the man must have had his own teams.

Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria [Queen's Coronation Regalia]
A mutated variant of the Aburame clans Yūdai no Omorejō ["Bewildering Grandeur of the Alpha"] resulting from the subsequent poisoning of Azarea's former Yūdai no Omorejō hive to prevent potential hijutsu theft. While the Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria lacks the Yūdai no Omorejō size instead Azarea's hive has maintained the ability to produce alpha pheromones and commanding vibrations. Evolving instead to hyperspecialize in these two aspects allowing them to produce pheramones and vibrations strong enough to be detected by human hearing and sense of smell.

Reigning Chakra Control
Fine tuning her chakra control to a razor's edge Azarea is capable of performing delicate techniques with minimal to no wastage of chakra. Allowing her to conserve her reserves in prolonged combat and managed more finickity techniques and jutsu.

Kagura Mind's Eye
Born with a natural affinity towards sensing chakra like her Father before her Azarea has trained herself to become a capable sensory shinobi. Unlocking the Kagura's Mind's Eye, and with it, the ability to passively sense chakra signatures in the distance (when using the technique), thus allowing her to not only track, but also memorize a person's chakra signature, even if barely any chakra is being used. Due to her proficiency with this technique, Azarea can currently passively sense chakra up to 500 meters and actively at 2.5 kilometers.

Azarea had similar issues. With their perhaps... to be construed as venting, or talking: Sozin was lightly gliding. He was moving, he wasn't falling - that was good enough for him as the noise of metal scraping against ice was heard. Azarea's response as telling. The question he hadn't anticipated but should have expected when he asked it from her. It was a like for like response in a way with their sharing.

It did not fall to him that she'd spoken like people were objects and items to be held like possessions. Maybe she wasn't more stable than Sozin after all. Sozin would draw a sharp intake of breath but otherwise respond.

"I killed them. An accident... we were taught something beyond our control too soon by a poor teacher. My replacements were never full in number." Meaning he'd never had a follow up team before he became a chuunin. Once upon a time, he would have said it with sadness - now it was just a chilling statement. A fact. Too much time had passed and so much had happened for him. Once he had been banished from his own heaven, he had found something far greater.

He wondered what they would have thought of who he was now.

He would continue gliding, slowly, across the ice - he was having difficulty turning around quickly and so was sort of veering off as he spoke. It made for a very compelling story when it was happening at the same time. While he continued trying to turn given that he'd done it less than a handful of times, he carried on talking. "Favorite mission?" Sozin asked.

His admission is met with a soft intake of breath from Azarea. Her expression empathetic and sad though she saves him the useless trivial apologies. In such times what could one really say that would ever compare to such a loss. Instead she simply inclines her head, "It's never the same after your first team is it?" She murmurs eyes distant, "I've been paired with a rotating group of genin here in Kumo, but we have no sensei and often I find myself filling the role." Azarea admits with a shake of her head. It wasn't a bad thing to teach others, but it left her feeling all the more isolated caring for and educating the shinobi who are meant to be learning with her rather then just from her.

"Favorite Mission..." She trails off considering, "I helped take care of a pirate outpost once with a partner. It was a difficult fight, but enjoyable. I think it's been my favorite thus far." Azarea muses with a small warm smile. "I felt my limits truly tested. Yourself?" She inquires carefully swapping sides to put herself between Sozin and the rail. Carefully moving to nudge the man to the side so as to not run into the wall of the rink.

"You know I think you are getting the hand of this." She quips gesturing to his feet. Soon enough he'd be able to look up instead of needing to stare at the ground as he moved.
