He waited and Taru was quick to deliver the next volley. The girl was quick with her arrows, slightly quicker than her kunai, and it kept Inei on his toes. As soon as the arrow aimed at his midsection, he ducked back the way he came, feeling the wind as it whizzed by.

But there wasn’t any time for him to take a breath because the girl had launched another arrow as soon as she saw the path he would take. Inei had to skid to a stop and quickly backpedal. He felt the air brush against him and something pull against the fur collar of his jacket.

It was a little too close for Inei’s comfort, but he had still managed to dodge it without injury. He straightened up and checked on his coat, noting that a small tear had now been added through the white fur.

That was disappointing.

Not that he couldn’t afford a brand new one, it was the principle of the thing. But he couldn’t react against a child, that would just give him more of a headache with the higher ups. Instead, he bounced on his toes. "One more go," he said, gesturing to the girl. He was getting bored and decided that it was time to wrap up their little training session.

The utilization and skill at control allows for him to trump those who don't put time and energy in studying how little energy a technique truly needs. He is capable of analyzing and memorizing an opponent's fighting style and determining the best ways to counteract against them. Moreover, Inei can formulate numerous plans to certain situations in mere moments. He thinks numerous steps ahead, and always has a back up plan.

Only one more go? Alright, then she needed a last hurrah! Taru nodded, looking thoughtful for a second. What to do, what to do? Oh, she had an idea!

"If it's our last one, let me make it a little more difficult," she suggested. A few hand seals later and she'd produced a set of clones. If Inei inspected them closely enough, he would find that they were the false sort, lacking true shadows and thus lacking true substance. Still, they copied her motions as she fiddled with her quiver for a moment, and then notched another arrow.

With whatever preparations she had made done, she aimed suddenly high into the sky and let the arrow loose. The clones mimicked this, their own arrows joining hers in the sky. It seemed a strange thing to do, maybe a joke - it was unlikely with the present path that the arrow would hit Inei.

At their peak, they each suddenly split apart into three arrows, their path shifting to rain down towards Inei! Only three of them were real, but there was the mirage of nine. The only way to tell the difference between the fakes and the real ones would be their shadows, since the cloned arrows wouldn't block the light.

Two of the arrows would fall more directly towards Inei. The third would arc further behind him, preventing a retreat, though leaving room to escape in other directions.

Given what she'd seen so far, she was sure he could dodge something like this, but it would be interesting to see regardless! A culmination of all his practice!

Inei simply nodded along with the girl’s enthusiasm, claiming she was going to make this one more difficult. She had yet to properly hit him with a kunai or an arrow, so he really wasn’t that worried. In fact, he was looking forward to it. Perhaps now the girl would give him a real challenge.

The clones got him excited for a moment, thinking that maybe the genin had managed to exceed all expectations and pull out some shadow clones. Until he scanned over their forms and saw that they didn’t give off shadows. That put a damper on things. Just normal, non-tangible, clones. Boring.

But, it meant that he could ignore the two completely and focus on the real girl, who was giving off a shadow. He focused on her, watching as she, instead of shooting directly at him, shot the arrow into the sky.

He risked looking up, following its trajectory and saw it split into three arrows. Clever. He instinctively swallowed at the sight of nine arrows raining down, but logically he knew he only had to worry about three of them. It was easy to tamp down his instincts with that knowledge.

His gaze returned down, glancing to make sure Taru wasn’t firing anything at him while he was momentarily distracted, and then focused his attention on the pinprick shadows that the arrows were giving off. Two to the front sides, the last one probably behind him. It was easy enough to dodge, by speeding to the side and into the path of the illusionary arrows.

The shadows told all and the arrows sunk harmlessly into the dirt, the illusions dissipating as they struck. Inei looked over at the girl as he bent down and pulled one of the arrows from the ground.

In truth, the plan had been pretty sound, if Inei hadn’t known what to look for. It probably would have worked better if Taru had used shadow clones or if she had fired some arrows while his attention was on the flying arrows. Not that he would reveal those tidbits of information. Let the kid figure it out herself.

Instead, he flipped the arrow up and caught it before tossing it back at Taru middle, not very fast, but fast enough that it would hurt if she didn’t try to move.

"Adequate," he said, before turning on his toe and walking away. All he offered in parting was a loose-wristed wave as he left, leaving Taru to her own devices after everything.
