Autumn
[attr="class","skulloverlap"]I will lead us to it. Definitely.

[attr="class","skullbody"]For once in quite a while Ichi was being asked to assist in something that did not pertain necessarily to his village. It had been a busy transitional era of late, a lack of fan fair making it clear that this was not some massive event but rather just part of the status quo. Ichi did not need to establish himself as some gaudy leader anyways when he was barely given the chance he already had. A promise of sorts to show his worth was unspoken to the public, but Ichi had been frank with the Daimyo not long ago in stating he would do his best to handle the work and changes that he was being asked to help administratively begin.
[break][break]

That was all however until he recieved not one, but two letters. The first addressed from the Raikage of a shinobi from her village travelling to stay for a time in Kusagakure, and the next an odd request for a meeting. Rare was it for Ichi to recieve visitors from which he was completely unfamiliar with their origin - but he did know the name of the young man and the information he could gather from his contacts. Yamamoto Shosuke, a man capable of utilizing mokuton much like himself. Ichi didn't really care much for what the boy was capable of though, he was simply intrigued by the idea that he had been requested personally. His interest being further peaked by his own lack of detachment from work as of late had been something he was looking to move off from for a moment, though anyone other then the young man would likely refer to the giant youth as a workaholic.
[break][break]

Having traveled to meet the young man in a Kisei Tea Shop just off of one of Kusagakure's more thinned shopping centers the young Lord would sit at a table near the back and sip on tea. Having taken a break from smoking only because he was unsure of his fellow chunin's actual policy towards smoke. A quiet set of chimes played at the front of the shop as he simply waited, unconcerned and calm about the passing of time.

Ichi's SA's and Techniques in Use:[break][break]

『Harvest Moon's Child』
Ichi was born to the Nakahara clan on the night of a Harvest Moon. Born with quite the green thumb he was assumed to be an inheritor of the clan's natural talents with plants. The roots ran deeper, however, as Ichi was born with a Kekkai Genkai, being a rare natural occurance of Wood Release outside of the Senju. In learning of this he has trained his kekkai to the best of his abilities. He is no master, seeing as he has no reference of Mokuton, but he has found a way to bring out techniques along side his own talents in a cohesive manner.

[Cosmetic Only: All Mokuton techniques Ichi uses appear as his favorite trees, though it has no real change as is.]

[break][break]
『Weaver of Wood』
Ichi was born with Mokuton, but he was not graced with the same level of chakra as the Senju would be in his situation. Being roughly average for an individual, Ichi instead focused on the skills his birth clan preferred. Practicing his medical skills, he has gained a higher quality of Chakra Control. Ichi is much less likely to leak chakra than the average shinobi because of this.

[break][break]
『The Festival's Atmosphere』
Having practiced his skills with extending his senses outwards with the use of mokuton chakra, Ichi is particularly adept at sensing life in an area. Capable of finding life through the very nature around people. Within [20 meters] Ichi is capable of passively sensing out plant and animal life in a general sense. Able to differentiate it between plant and animal, but no further. Unlike chakra sensory Ichi can not more or less readily sense others based on their chakra, but instead purely senses the 'vitality' in things, though even those with seemingly boundless vitality will read the same as the elderly or a newborn to him. Also unlike usually sensory to actively search out individuals Ichi requires Mokuton, or the use of his pipe (though using it makes his position much easier to locate), as a catalyst to extend his senses, only going out as far as the technique's range, or twice his passive range in case of the pipe. It is also notable that the deceased, and those that feign death in some fashion, as through a poison or a jutsu, are completely invisible to Ichi. Notably the furthest he can extend his senses is [100 meters].[break][break]

『Master of Festival Games』

Ichi is incredibly smart for someone his age, but he lacks the qualifications to be a scholar. This is because his intelligence is not found in understanding of principles and anything so magnificiently deep. It instead lies in his observational talents and ability to react to everything that is going on around him with an absolute calm. Being able to plan and act with just minute details to go off of, Ichi is best described as a schemer and a diplomat rather than a genius. This makes him perfect for roles that are heavy in Tactical and Diplomatic Decision Making, as he grasps larger images and can put together clues better than others. Effectively allowing him to take in the wider picture of everything going on and piece together practical responses in mere moments with little to no hesitation or error.

Mokuton. It was an ability that had defined Shosuke's life from the very moment that he was born.

When it came to advanced chakra natures, almost every village had at least one or two that they could brag about. But they came from long clans, ancient traditions, they stood as prize of place in the village. For someone of no clan affiliation to develop one randomly? Well, it was pretty much unheard of. That was why he had been prized so highly by the Yamamoto, they were a clan of doctors and medics and he was a genetic anomaly.

Of course, there was always the rumors that Shosuke's mother had simply gotten pregnant from a Senju. After all, they had come back from their Chuunin Exam pregnant and refused to name the father of the child, so there could be every chance that he was some bastard Senju. But it was just as likely that his father was someone else completely unrelated. More importantly, if the father was a Senju, why would she bother trying to hide it?

Shosuke had long considered actually getting an answer to this conundrum to be moot. He had never met his father, his mother had no interest in introducing them, and whatever the circumstances of his gift were he still had it. However, during his missions working with Kusagakure on the trading outpost in Hirata, he had heard talk from some of the guards and tradesmen that there was someone just like him in the village - someone else who knew and could wield Mokuton without being affiliated with the Senju.

What Shosuke did NOT know was that the Raikage had sent along additional letters. Perhaps she had had the same idea, or perhaps she merely wanted to get Shosuke some medical treatment he simply couldn't receive in Kumogakure. After all, this man treated the mind where all of his treatment had been regarding his body.

That was how Shosuke had wound up attending the teashop that Ichi had suggested. It was a small place, almost quaint, but he wasn't such a poor guest as to insult or belittle the other's choice of locations. Besides, though he couldn't actually see it, from what he could tell with his blindsense it was a pretty nice little locale.

Either way, Ichi would soon hear the sound of chimes jangling above the doorway as Shosuke stepped into the building. If he couldn't tell from how lost Shosuke seemed, he would almost certainly be able to tell who he was by the fact that he was proudly wearing the Kumogakure headband around his arm.

For a moment, Sho paused, his head inclined and quiet as he felt around for what stood around him. Unfortunately, whilst they had exchanged letters, he had never actually received a description for what the other man was supposed to look like. As such, he just stood in the walking area of the cafe awkwardly, trying to figure out how to work out who he was supposed to approach.

Autumn
[attr="class","skulloverlap"]I will lead us to it. Definitely.

[attr="class","skullbody"]It didn't take a genius to spot someone that seemed completely out of place. Here in the tea shop Ichi was far from unnoticeable given his height even while sitting down, though that did not slow the young lord of grass from waving to the person he was meant to meet. A smile played to the gentle giant's face as his arm outstretched to greet the Kumogakure Chunin, "Yamamoto Shosuke, I presume? Back here my friend, come, sit," Ichi would call with an almost unnaturally calm voice that did not betray any description that could of been given about the new Kusa Lord and his demeanor.
[break][break]

In truth Ichi was simply too relaxed with the needed reprieve and the chance to recharge his social batteries in the way he enjoyed the most; assisting others was always his prerogative, but there was a fundamental difference between doing it on his and on his village's time. Ichi rarely did something on his village's time that was considered non-shinobi work and while he had learned ways to heal the mind with his mother originally as a way to still follow in her path as a medic, he was ultimately happy with being a spiritual and mental medical specialist. To be of use in his clan's teaching of medicine and peace was what had led him to believe in his own convictions and he would be truly damned if he were to break away from them. In that regard he knew far too well how much one needed to learn the ways to stay convinced of their ideals and further still how fragile that line could be without encouragement. Though the Nakahara had no way to tell what was going on before they began talking.
[break][break]

As Shosuke would presumably move to sit Ichi would reach for a tea glass and kettle from the table and fill it in a fairly traditional pouring fashion, a habit obtained from having grown up with his 'older brother' Kisei Takato. He was not related to the Kisei, but the young men had taught each other much and had been incredibly close in childhood despite the difference in age. Setting the kettle back on a war stone to the side of the table to keep the tea inside warm Ichi would place the cup on the side of the table for Shosuke to drink from, "Please enjoy the tea, the Kisei are world-renowned for the taste of their tea. Then when you are ready I am open for whatever it is you were wanting to discuss, its always a pleasant surprise to be sought out for conversation as it were."

It was a good thing that Ichi lacked the emotional-sensing capabilities of a Yamamoto, because if he had he would have been able to feel just how much stress slipped off of Sho's shoulders as the other called out to him. Reaching out his senses towards the other man, he took the moment to carefully examine him, trying to glean as much information about the other man as he could.

The first thing that he noticed was that the other man was gigantic. Not big enough for Sho to worry that the man might have gigantism or something, but he was definitely ridiculously tall. To compare the pair next to each other would probably end up looking like a bush next to a redwood tree. The other thing was that the man's heart beat ponderously slowly, as if taking its time and working with a measured gait. There wasn't any sense of anxiety or concern that he could detect within the other man, something he had to admit that he envied quite a bit.

So, this was Nakahara Ichi, huh?

Regardless, following the man's request, Sho moved through the tea shop with as much grace as he could muster, managing to avoid tripping over errant bags left out behind other clients and simply working his way to the end-table that he had been requested at, before taking a seat quietly and with as little fuss as possible.

The cup was poured out in front of him, the very act of doing so being the definition of refinement and class. Though Sho struggled to see it through those twilight hues, he could sense it nonetheless. It was clearly practiced, something someone had done many, many times over. That seemed to fit with the rest of the profile he was getting about this guy; everything about him screamed class, nobility, dignity. He wasn't sure if Kusa had a caste system like some other villages did, but if they did then this man would certainly pass for a noble any day of the week.

"Thank you." Sho answered simply, taking a moment to move his hands to the tea-cup and taking an inquisitive sip. The tea was indeed wondrous, it was clear to see why it had become so famous, but if Sho was being honest there was something about it that seemed TOO good, like the equivalent of taking a painting from a gallery and hanging it up in a bathroom. It felt out of place, as if he didn't deserve to drink it. Perhaps that was the risk one took when one's fame outgrew oneself.

"So... You're Nakahara Ichi, right?" he said, trying to find a way to start the conversation. He had never been the most socially gifted man in the world, so starting a conversation with someone who was almost entirely a stranger like this was deeply uncomfortable.

"I'm sure you know this by the letters we exchanged, but I'm in a rather similar position to you - Namely, I developed Wood Release without being part of the Senju clan. I was wondering if you had any idea how your body was able to produce an "original" advanced release, seeing as this sort of thing is usually highly controlled..." Straight to the point, it seemed.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Ichi smiled as he nodded towards the question of his identity and took a sip from his drink following his guest. Swallowing he responded as he took note of the man's almost recovering sense of balance, something he took to mean he was likely lacking some amount of sight given the symptoms, "Yes I am." A short reply to make sure that the young man knew he was speaking to the right person and assure him of what he was doing. Ichi continuing to sit and smile gently as he waited for the words to reach him for what was to come and he was assured a pleasant conversation when he heard the older boy's plight. A mirthful chuckle escaped the Nakahara's lips as the question and statement were fully composed for them to discuss.
[break][break]

"Forgive me, as this is very similar to something Kazuto-San asked me years ago. Simply to answer on my end, happenstance? I can't say for sure, but I have certainly been granted a boon even if most of the Senju's ways don't actually work for me. Actually, if what I have been told is true your closer in line to a Senju then I will ever be seeing as I was only ever able to learn one of their jutsu. My gift is one I had to study and learn to use in my own way, and given my personal penchant for Kekkai I simply molded to two ideas together over time. Took nearly eight years to learn what I have," Ichi would explain in a calm voice, a jovial tone to his voice even as he explained his personal plight amidst his statement.
[break][break]

Sipping his tea again Ichi would swallow before he continued with his own side of the conversation to lead it to what he assumed was there. Unlike Shosuke who seemed naturally inclined to the vibrations of emotion, Ichi was completely reading the young man by speech and body language awkwardly forward and nervous as it showed itself, "In line with the best answer I can give you, I suppose the better answer is that I am simply unconcerned with the how and why. Nature is a wonderful mystery at times, and often I think it is best to look at what can be done with the cards you are dealt. Tell me Shosuke-San what causes you to seek the why, when you strike me as such an innovative mind?"

Kazuto-san? Shosuke paused for a moment, wracking his mind to see if he recognized that name. It was possible that he was simply forgetting something important, but he simply couldn't put a face to a name. Though, he presumed that if the other man was referring to him in this context that he was either a Senju or someone who knew about the Senju - though really that could be just about anyone. Hell, he had been pressed about just such a topic himself on the way to Kusa and Kazui was sure as hell no Senju herself.

Either way, what the man said was indeed deeply informative. So, the man had only ever been able to learn one of the Senju's jutsus? But was that because of being unable to learn it or being unwilling to seek it out? Whenever Shosuke had learned a new Wood Release technique, he had simply studied eye-witness records and reverse engineered techniques. It was definitely an inefficient way of doing things, but since he had never had any successful contact with the Senju clan, it had been the only option if he wanted to take full advantage of his gift.

"Eight years, huh?" Sho said, mulling the words over for a moment whilst parsing what the other man had to say, as if the time spent on such a thing was the most important part of that sentence.

"How old are you now though? You can't be more than... what, 18? 19? You sure aren't in your twenties. So you're telling me that from the age of, what, 10 (?) you just sat down and forced yourself to use something you had no skill or talent with otherwise?

Don't get me wrong, Mr. Ichi, but that seems kind of a tall-tale to believe. Either you've got the patience of a saint, or there's something you're not telling me. As a doctor, I've worked with many academy-level kids, and not a one of them would have the patience for what you're saying you had the patience for. It just seems... if you'll pardon my honesty, it seems unrealistic."

There was a clear and frank note of incredulity to the other man's story. It wasn't like Shosuke was trying to insult the man, there wasn't a rude bone in his body, but it was like saying a ten year old had sat down and forced himself to learn astrophysics. Even a workaholic like Sho found it unbelievable that someone could essentially teach someone an entirely "new" Kekkei Genkai and for them to master it before they even hit their twenties.

Even still, Shosuke continued to listen, quickly beginning to grow somewhat irked when the man explained that he had no idea what he was doing and that essentially the trip had been wasted. To be told by the only other person in the world in the same position as him that they were flying by the seat of their pants and didn't have the slightest idea what they were doing? Well, it was concerning to say the least.

"Why do I seek you out? I don't know, Ichi, why do you THINK I sought you out?" Ah, noticeably the Mr dropped.

"We are the only two people in the entire world who have, to my knowledge, ever expressed this ability outside of the Senju. When you want to be a better doctor, you study under a senior. When you want to learn taijutsu, you study under a master. When you want to learn senjutsu, you study under a Sage. I had, apparently wrongly, presumed you knew how to wield this better than I did and would have an answer better than "figure it out yourself".

Now, I could maybe speak to the Senju about this, but they're deeply uncommunicative and very insular. When I was younger and more innocent and groping for some sort of male parental influence, I sent letters to the clan and nobody claimed me nor even bothered responding to my messages. I doubt they'll be more receptive if I just say "Hi! I've stolen your Kekkei Genkai by merit of being born. Someone come show me how to use it.""

He knew he should be showing the other man respect and deference, and in almost any other circumstance he would, but there was something so aggravating about this guy. His calm, relaxed, demure nature that implied he was taking life slow and at his own pace... it felt like a slap in the face to Sho's own dedication to fix things, to make things right, to help.

Autumn
[attr="class","skulloverlap"]I will lead us to it. Definitely.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Most had some form of reaction emotionally to outbursts, a knee jerk level of anxiety or increase in adrenaline in response to the sudden stimuli before them. Ichi was not most people, continuing to sit and sip his tea as his heart beat and he remained steadfast and calm, unperturbed by the outburst as on-lookers would glance over only to go back to their business as they noticed Ichi. This spot was often where he came to discuss people's problems over tea, be it marital, financial, emotional, or more he had come here to hear people out for years. The regulars here knew that as well and easily waved away the notion of anything odd going on when Shosuke became irate with him. To the young man's credit he was rather composed for someone who was so obviously close to fraying at the seams, something else was driving this outburst other then indignation or a lack of understanding. Was it hunger of power? No, that didn't sound right. Was it sadness? More likely, but that didn't feel completely correct either. He was showing signs of impatience that were rather unlike most medics the young lord had met, even the more money-hungry ones within his clan were never like this. Which meant something had certainly set him off like this.
[break][break]

As he set down his now empty mug, Ichi would smile more gingerly to the boy, no less sincere but certainly more somber then the jovial tone of before. Speaking in a far calmer and eloquent speech manner Ichi would attempt to quell Shosuke's growing anger, "I never said to figure it out yourself Shosuke-San, nor was it my intention to imply that if you saw it as such. I would not have met with you so readily if I had no intention of helping, I very much do. Please relax and we can talk further, you have come far and asked very little so far. We have much more to talk on before I believe we are fully reaching an understanding of the ground we stand on and how to bridge that gap," Ichi would state pausing to check his companion, his tone the same calm, sooth-saying like tone he took when dealing with most who had worked up their nerves in such short order, "I believe there has been a misunderstanding between what I said and yourself I would like to clear up though. I did not ask why you sought me, that much should be obvious to me even if I was dense. I was asking why you seek to know how you and I both manage to mold Mokuton chakra. You strike me as the type to focus on how to use things given what I have been told about you so it seemed like a strange question."
[break][break]

"Given what you have said though, I gather it is partially out of fear for retribution? If so I can assure you it will not come, the man I mentioned before Kazuto-San is Senju Kazuto, the head of the Senju. He knows of my existance and has no issue, his father likely would have were he still around from what I gathered roughly, but that is an outdated philosophy from back when we were younger in age - I am willing to bet your messages were ignored by his will expressly," Ichi would finish his statement of simple truths for Shosuke to take or leave on that matter, though he would certainly be informing Kazuto he would have another student in the future. Shosuke had talent for normal mokuton, and that was something to certainly bolster however he could. Kizumi's assets in an pinch were his and much the same in reverse - that was the nature of allies and bonding nations together more tightly.[break][break]

"As to your original point, it is fine if you do not believe me, but I have no reason or need to lie to you. I am a man very much settled to my virtues, and those caused me to seek and find a way where I could. What I use are not the studied techniques of Mokuton you know at all, and they suffer in strength from the Senju's techniques, but I use Mokuton to fit my own means in a fight. That is, earnestly, what that is. I would not mind demonstrating for you either if you would so like. Though if I may, politely incline, do not assume someone's talents in our line Shosuke-San that is a folly that leads to downfall. You know better then most as a medic what assumption can do to a man. For record though, if I was in your shoes I would not have believed my statement either. I have lived my life and know what I did and did not do, but find my own solution to utilizing mokuton on my own was very much a struggle I endured for a long time. One I would love to help lighten the burden of for you, even if I do not think I can give you the exact fit answer you want from my own experience. Merely share and discuss what we have both learned and mutually forge a path, I think that is rather tenable if we are to learn more about each other and agreement on such an arrangement. Do you?" Ichi would finish his rebuttal with an olive branch of sorts, with an assuring lining to his tone that spoke to his confidence to finding a solution. A birdge lowering open for Shosuke to decide to cross, Ichi would gently outstretch a hand to shake. An agreement to help each other forward, an official sort of oath even if the road was not fully clear. Ichi's heart remained steady and unshifting even still.

Despite sharing such a rare and unique ability, it did seem as if the two couldn't be further apart in terms of personality. Shosuke was a coiled spring of stress, constantly repressed and crushed and ready to break out at any moment, Ichi was clearly a far more relaxed and patient individual. In fact, it was almost shocking that the man didn't seem to react to the way that Shosuke sprung at him verbally.

However, what was clear was that this wasn't the silence that came from disinterest or apathy, this was more like... well, for lack of a better term, sagacity. Perhaps he really was patient enough for something like what the man had claimed, as hard as it was to imagine. He was certainly more akin to a sage than what he had heard about some of the actual Sages in this world.

Sho could still feel his heart beating faster, his irritation palpable, but the more the man talked the more it seemed as if there was an almost narcotic, pacifying power to the man's words. It was almost like he was some walking genjutsu, to the point where if Sho wasn't fully aware that the man was using no chakra he might even suspect something was afoot. No, it seemed this was the man's actual personality, he was just being wholly genuine.

"I- I see." Sho said, feeling a hot pang of shame at his earlier outburst now that the man was talking so patiently with him. "I... I apologise. I'm sorry, I've just... it's been a hard year. But you're right, I misunderstood what you were saying and I think I snapped. I'm just... under a lot of pressure.

If you want to know why I want to know why I want to know? It's... well, its a lot of things really. See,"
and here he went on to explain the nature of his clan, the Yamamotos - the medics of Kumogakure. The value they put upon his unique Kekkei Genkai, but also the way that it had ostracized him from other members of the clan as if his potential ties to the Senju might divide his loyalties.

The senju were always allies to Kumo, that much was true, but that didn't mean they weren't a difficult, hostile bunch at times, and there was no shortage of reasons why one would struggle to maintain a relationship with such a group.

He would then go on to explain his condition, about his blindness, his inability to see. How he had lost his eyes in a ritual, and how he had wound up in his current position. His need to repay his family and village for everything they had helped him through, but every word he spoke was tinged with his own feeling of inadequacies, how he didn't measure up. He wanted to work with his abilities, but he wanted them to be HIS abilities. Not something he owed to someone else, not something that was just an insignificancy.

If he was like Ichi and had developed them through some genetic abnormality, he was unique and could find a way to develop his powers on his own, or at least with help. But if he was just a bastard Senju? He would always just not be as good as a true Senju, a constant failure living in the shadows of others.

"If you are willing to help me learn more about myself and what I can do to help? I would be greatly in your debt. But, I feel before we go any further that you should be aware of something rather pressing.

I'm sure it hasn't slipped your notice, but where I come from... Kumogakure, it is haunted by the specter of the past. Even with the plague now gone, there are many empty positions yet unfilled.

On the way here, I was supposed to meet up with two of your fellow Kusa-nin at Hirata Village, but before I could even do that I was waylaid with a separate mission. We're so busy they couldn't even afford to send someone else to deal with that job, I was forced to postpone our mission in Hirata to deal with something else.

I know it took you eight years to learn how to do these things, but the simple fact of the matter is that I do not have eight years. Far, far too many people were injured or lost their lives trying to keep up appearances for the village whilst I kept my head down and shut my mouth working in the hospital.

The idea of sitting back and simply accepting other people getting injured or killed if there's something I can do to protect them, to help my village, to save lives? I can't, I won't, accept that."

Despite just how obvious it was that Shosuke was a bundle of stress and nerves, something about him seemed so genuine, so compassionate. He was clearly scared for others more than he was for himself.

Indeed, when Ichi had suggested that he was afraid of being attacked, assaulted or otherwise targetted by the Senju clan earlier, there simply was no look of recognition of those emotions on Shosuke's face. It wasn't like he was trying to hide that he was afraid, he simply wasn't. His concerns were entirely with other people, with how he could help and improve the lives of others, rather than any concern for himself.

Although, perhaps that in itself was a problem. He seemed ready to bleed and die for his village, but perhaps overly eager to do so.

Autumn
[attr="class","skulloverlap"]I will lead us to it. Definitely.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Autumn glowed best where it was found, and Ichi was watching the vibrancy blossom before his very eyes. Glee overtook his mind at the prospect that his fellow mokuton user had found themself upon a similar path as he. One that aimed to guide people to a peace-time in safety, one that would not allow for such a thing as war and untimely demise. Though it was clear that he had reached this conclusion with far less color to his world. No, Shosuke had endured far worse conditions then Ichi ever had. Where Ichi had grown up looking for solutions to his lack of talent in medicine and supported, Shosuke had been continuously put down for seeking avenues. His ideas had been shunned and devalued, inadequacy was widely something that seemed to consume the boy, though he couldn't truly experience something that he had never known with his conversation partner. All the same the young man understood and he listened, just as he had time and time before to others like Shosuke who never had the option to unburden themselves of their pain and tribulations in life.
[break][break]

In exchange with the boy Ichi would explain more about the land of Nohara, his own heritage coming from a clan of medical shinobi and farmers of medicinal plants and his own inability to practice his clan's teachings. He would talk on the turbulent nature of the leadership within his village and how it had affected his view on the world and why he was so diligent to his own studies. Why he continued to pursue his ideals stubbornly was something few got to truly learn about the young man, but that did not stop him from sharing where it was appropriate and when it was. His own lack of fundamentals to rely on and why he turned to barriers where he failed upon himself to produce results and how that turned into something of a specialty for him. A conversation between two young adults sharing their lives like old men fondly looking back upon their younger years and enjoying the simpler ability to be honest with themselves and the world. Release in the purest form of the word to push their mutual understanding of one another to a neutral peak that could be used to really lay the foundations of a working relationship in exploring their blood.
[break][break]

Pouring both himself and his companion a full glass of tea whenever either emptied their cup until they were out of tea. Ichi would mull over the last bit of what Shosuke had to say with a nod of agreement on the matter, a show he was still paying attention to the conversation even as he drifted in thought of what to say to his fellow chunin. He was quite the open book, but that also lead him to understand where the boy's faults were rather quickly, though perhaps not what one would expect. Ichi himself was more then willing to do anything to ensure the survival of his family, something that had always included his full country, including becoming the villain himself if it came to that. No, he saw no fault in Martyrdom only in the approach to reach a solution that was healthier first. A solution that required some degree of patience that was rare to the general peoplem perhaps to far too many of the people in this world.[break][break]

"I am well aware of Kaminari's sorrow over the plague and I do mourn on the day of remembrance as much as I do my own people. As for the mission, do not worry about such a matter that is what an administrator like myself is meant to handle at the end of day. I do not think you and I are dissimilar at all to that end though, perhaps though I lack your urgency where you lack my patience? I do not usually confide in others as it is unnecessary for myself usually, I am rather good at comprehending emotion then most and my days of self-mediation have done far more for me then I can verbalize. However, I more then know your plight - a need to reach a certain answer, after all it is no secret I was promoted to be my village's "leader" if you can call it that to a degree. I hardly qualify, and I would not have for many years. I am, however, emotionally intelligent and I got to where I am by leveraging connection and simply logic. I am by no means equal to your Raikage, the Kazekage, or the Hokage though from scope to control I am vastly lesser - yet to these people I am meant to hold that weight," Ichi would pause as he let his words sink in a moment. It was honestly spoken, objective truth even if he was socially accepted there was an unspoken unease still to the start of his reign and one that he needed to meet. The subtle eyes of the room listening would become apparent even to the blind man as if the entire building was watching how they spoke and moved.

[break][break] "That sort of expectation is something I absolutely refuse to disappoint, and I enjoy my work my by the day - that doesn't make it easier of a burden when I am to be judged on my own powerlessness. No, in truth I do have my own motive to meet you Shosuke-San. I did not lie when I said that I believe I can help you find a solution but I would not give such help free when I can ask to mutually ask your help in turn. I am a Nakahara after all, exchange of currency is in my blood even if the currency to me is favor and not coin. I do not believe it will take eight years for you to find a solution when you have foundation and my help on the matter, but similarly I no longer have time to simply walk up the ladder. I do not choose my rank among shinobi even if you would believe that, I too have board that decides if I am ready. I am far from ready to promote, but I would like to reach that point before the autumn beginnings of next year. If you are willing to help me reach my goals I will help you with the use of every connection and any amount of knowledge I can impart onto you to possibly use, I believe this is a fair deal for us to follow if you are entirely of similar mind to mine."

Even blind as he was, Shosuke was easily able to read the sheer excitement coming off of this guy in waves. He couldn't quite explain how he was able to tell, maybe it was the way the man's heartbeat speed up or maybe there really was such a thing as an aura but whatever the case the man's excitement was clear, though Sho wasn't entirely sure why.

The notion that the man was glad to hear that there was someone from Kumo that he could manipulate was strangled in its crib when the man mentioned that he mourned strongly for all those in Kumo who had fallen to the plague. Even had Sho's blindnsense not served as a functional lie-detector, there was just something about the way that he spoke that made Shosuke certain that he was being entirely honest. But then, if it wasn't something so cold and pragmatic, what on earth could make the man excited from what Sho was saying.

Then it was spelled out, plain as day, and in the moment of its reveal Sho's surprise was evident. It was plastered across his face, lit up like neon lights.

"Hang on - You're the Lord of Kusa, and people are denying you the ability to promote freely?" he asked, his tone clearly a little incredulous. Sure, he too had found it pretty absurd that this guy had been the one chosen to become the new Lord of Kusa - He had met the previous lady, incidentally, but only once and only whilst she was buying medicine for a hangover. To say that the line of Kusa lordship wasn't the most respected in the world would be an understatement.

Even so, who was brave enough, or perhaps stupid enough, to look their lord in the face, the one who they were all supposed to owe a debt of loyalty, and deny them something as simple as a promotion? How was one both essentially a grunt of a shinobi and the lord of a village? It made little to no sense.

"Look... I don't hold any objections against helping you get promoted. If that's all you want in exchange for the support I need to become stronger, to help others, then of course I'll readily give it. I'm already working with many of your underlings as it is, adding one more person into my retinue is hardly what I would consider a bad deal. But...

What on earth is the point of being the Lord of a place if you can't have so much as a promotion for free? It's not like you're going to lead Kusa the day you become a Jounin, and I'm pretty sure its not a matter of wages. Any amount paid for you for being a Chuunin would surely be outstripped by you being a Lord. Not to mention you're probably receiving kickbacks from the Kisei anyway so they can maintain a trading license within and without the village..."

In truth, it didn't make a lot of sense to Sho. He had never been someone who cared about politique, he wanted things done and he wanted them done well. Even in his competition against the other potential heads of the Yamamoto clan, it had always been about proving himself the best man for the job rather than sleight of hand or tricking the other potential heirs into disgracing themselves. As such, the ideas and rigors of the office of Kusa Lord were somewhat distant and unknown to him, as was why one would want such an office in the first place if it didn't change one's station or abilities.

Autumn
[attr="class","skulloverlap"]I will lead us to it. Definitely.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Ichi had to admit, he had pondered that to though with far less ridicule on the matter. To him it still made sense, and as the two spoke he would finish his glass and wait for Sho to finish talking and drink what was left from his own cup. Standing at this point to his full height and tapping to motion the following of the young man, a bag of coin currency placed at the front of the small tea shop as Ichi lead his companion back out of the building. Having to duck under the doorframe of the building as to not smash his head into the wooden door frame. His steps measured and long, but slow as to not out pace his company, particularly with Sho's vision seemingly as poor as it is.
[break][break]

"Its as I have discussed already with you, there is a level of... necessity to still show I can be allowed to promote. I am not like your Raikage who holds next to unchecked power when it comes to authority over not just the village, but military and commerce. I have many who get say over much of my comings and goings from here, and I prefer it that way. Kizumi-Sama is an incredibly competent leader in my eye, and she knows her own shortfalls. I see that as nothing except a boon," Ichi would state with an even tone, honest to his words both in mind and tongue. Striding further from their original spot he would bring Shosuke outside of the village proper towards what looked like lush, if fairly patch land in terms of foliage. Like a field out of season, it was not truly empty, but not filled either.
[break][break]

Stopping a bit short of center field Ichi would turn, "Don't know if its impressive or not, but I would like to demonstrate what I do a bit to show, and perhaps we can work on something both of us have as a goal more readily?" The tall lord of Kusa would state as he began weaving seals one after another, not at a particularly insane speed, but it was steady. Finishing the string he would place a hand to the ground and chakra would flood over an area as roots and thin winding trees rose from the ground all around them like a jungle upon the floor. Something about it was decidedly not normal however as Ichi pressed for it to keep expanding, closer to a barrier then a normal form of mokuton it was like a large sculpture like plants rather then nature in a true form.[break][break]

"Kekkai: Akisame [Barrier: Autumn Rain], one of the first techniques that I made. Watch your step, but I figured this was one of the easier to show you since it would not require good vision," Ichi would state as his form, near as he was would being a flickering view as the two were drowned in soft leaves that fell like torrential rain. A technique that lacked force, but effected the earth in a massive area for what it was. It was a strain to try and push the range to be more then it was normally, but he had managed a bit here. It would be harder to do this with some of his other barriers considering his use of this one was more common in a fight.

As Ichi gestured for Sho to follow him, Sho nodded, standing up from where he had come to sit. That said, as he followed behind the figure of the Lord of Kusa, Sho had to admit that he was finding himself staring at the man - or at least what passed for staring through his tremorsense.

It was one thing to see it whilst the man was sitting down, but whilst standing up the man loomed large over... well, everything in his immediate environment. The man was enormous, truly built like the trees they both were able to manipulate. Compared to him, Sho looked relatively petite, something that he found quite an odd and almost humbling experience.

"It's strange to hear you describe yourself almost as if you were powerless." Sho added, trying to keep his tone more respectful than it had been earlier.

"I recognize your way of life in the minor villages is a lot different compared to those of us born in major ones like Kumo, but I still would have assumed a Lord would have been given certain freedoms that would except you from things like a regular career path." The pair continued to wander as they spoke, and as they did Sho couldn't help but muse on the situation.

"I met your predecessor - Lady Kanoh, I mean. She was a strange woman, I served her hangover medicine when she came to me in one of Kumo's pharmacies. She seemed exhausted, although perhaps that was the hangover I just mentioned. If you're expected to pull double duty both as a Lord and as a regular Shinobi, perhaps now I can see why she would be so tired."

Whatever the case, the two found themselves shortly outside of the village, something that came almost ludicrously quickly. Kusa really was quite the small place when compared to a major population center like Kumo. Hell, it seemed barely bigger than Hirata, and he had built most of that place himself not days before. Whatever the case, it seemed whatever Ichi wanted to show had to happen outside of the village, and it almost immediately became clear why.

The vines seemed to spread over the area like a parasite, growing and strengthening with each passing second until it seemed almost to be an impassible barricade, a true sign of defensive mokuton. Defense was indeed supposed to be the main strength of their release, though Sho had often found that the best defense was a good offense. It was why he had come to rely so heavily on his vines rather than something as large and stolid as this.

"You made this yourself?" Sho asked, his interest clearly piqued by what the other man was suggesting. Of course, creating jutsu was not unique, in fact it was quite common. Sho himself had basically had to reverse engineer most of his techniques from what he had heard other Senju capable of, but this was a whole other kettle of fish. A particularly juicy one at that, if he was correct about what this suggested Ichi was capable of.

"Most of my stuff is more.... localized? Centralized on me, sometimes even affecting my body itself. I've got a thing or two like this in my repertoire but they're all so expensive chakra-wise it often seems easier to keep it simple. How do you cope with the chakra drain?" Sho asked, reaching out and touching the barrier with a sort of quiet awe that was obvious in his body language.

Of course, being "blind" as he was, Sho's vision remained undisturbed by the constant flood of leaves pouring down from the barricade, instead relying on his tremor-sense to ensure he didn't get caught up in the twisting nature of the vines.

"... Oh, and don't worry about my vision; I may be blind, but I can see more clearly than possibly even you." He said, trying to avoid sounding arrogant or boastful but simply telling the truth. He was not as easy a mark as one might assume.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Ichi was glad that his companion could find interest in his skills. After all, a pacifist only had so much they could accredit as their own skill when creating techniques in a world that truly valued the destruction of one's enemy. Ichi was opposite to this, of course, he did not care at all to kill himself and instead worked to conduct combat in a way that was only truly beneficial to his allies. Of course, that meant that he had a grand amount of work to do still, and hopefully this encounter was just the start to getting that push into the next level.
[break][break]

"It is different in someways, though very similar in others. As for Lady Kanoh, I am rather surprised after all her vice was the same as mine. Alcohol was likely not her specific idea then if she was asking for medicine I would assume. As for the difference there, Lady Kanoh had a history of accomplishments. I am currently rather untested myself," Ichi would offer as a response as he inhaled the heavy air of fall that permeated the barrier for the two. A strong scent of dried leaves hitting the air from the technique, "Indeed I did make this though. I had told you I made all my mokuton from scratch outside of a single technique I was taught. Senju Mokuton and I are not truly that compatible though I do try to level my techniques to them I lack many of Mokuton's qualities that I still genuinely need to find a way to replicate as currently all I do is hinder everyone around myself. Then again I generally avoid techniques that can harm without someone bringing it upon themself."
[break][break]

"As for the drain, even this jutsu is steep, it takes roughly a fifth of my reserves still to use this jutsu, and that is on a day when I am in my best shape. This is, for record, not the strongest of my techniques, but Akisame is likely the one that attributes to what I do best. Area detainment in a way that makes certain things prohibitive, but often not harmful to the body, it is also why I myself can be seen as rather weak. I have never directly killed a man, and I still to this day refuse to do so. I do have easier to use techniques, but my focus being on area of effect, I am not fully sure how our personal styles collide particularly actually. Is there a part of Mokuton as a release you know you struggle with more specifically?" Ichi would ask as he continued to try and push the techniques edges out further and further. He could feel the expansion beginning to feel less like a forced action as they spoke. It was becoming easier to extend the size of his techniques and it was certainly a good sign that the techniques still had the room to grow, literally.

To a certain degree, Sho could understand where the man was coming from, even if it remained unspoken - Sho was, or at least had been, a doctor. He was very proud of those jutsu of his that weren't designed to hurt, to crush or break, and were instead designed to heal, to build up, to protect. Sho wasn't a pacifist, though he would like to minimize harm wherever possible, but there was a certain beauty to techniques that were designed for something other than the bloody business of war.

Though, had he known about Ichi being a pacifist, part of him would have wondered just how long that would be sustainable for someone in his position. The man ran a village, or at least he presided over one. When he gave out orders to take care of enemies, could he truly be said to have his hands clean of blood just cos someone else wielded the knife? Likewise, if in his mercy and his abstinence against violence someone got away and went onto claim other lives, was that a violation of his pacifism? It was a hard notion to hold onto when you were at this level of power and influence.

"That wasn't an actual... Never mind." Sho said, waving away the man's comment with a lazy bat of his hand. It seemed the rhetorical question had shot over the other man's head, something made especially ironic due to the man's sheer height.

"Well, I have to say - Its pretty impressive. I don't know if you're going to have a lot of places to use it in our line of work, it seems more built for defending a location rather than something you can whip out whilst infiltrating a bandit camp or the like, but for someone who's going to be stuck around the village as much as its Lord? I can definitely see that this has its charms."

The man continued on his rant, giving almost what seemed like a dissertation on the nature of his abilities, how much he was capable of and just where his area of focus landed. For most of it, Sho simply remained quiet, listening with rapt attention as the other man spoke. It wasn't, exactly, immediately applicable to his own experiences but the man clearly spoke with a passion and a vivacity that made it hard to do anything less.

He could see why this man had been chosen for Lordship, there was an undeniable charisma there. It was like listening to his professor back at the academy although far less infantilizing than that might sound. It was more like he was seeing the world again through his eyes, and it made him want to learn more about the topic.

"Not killing someone doesn't make you weak, Ichi." Sho began, after what seemed like minutes of silence. "Though I doubt you'll have the luxury of maintaining that moral high ground forever. I can't speak for what Kusa is like, but I've had to kill my fair share of people to keep the Land of Lightning safe. Bandits, slavers, real scum of the earth but still people. Such is the price we pay to protect the people we care about."

There was a lot more he wanted to say on the topic, but for now he let it slide past. Instead, he turned to the man's question.

"As for me? I guess you could say I'm a jack of all trades - I've got some stuff that binds, some stuff that hurts, some stuff that augments my strength. I can summon entire trees out of nowhere, create buildings like I did in Hirata, or even something as small as tie someone to my Substitutions. I've only been back in the field for about a year so I've really just been picking up whatever and whenever I can.

I just... I don't wanna be caught empty handed if people need me, you know?"

[attr="class","skullbody"]To say he was not weak was something that Ichi would quietly disagree with Shosuke on. One truly needed to know their limits as a shinobi and for all he was worth Ichi did not see himself as a powerhouse or even truly a proper combatant. Not alone at least, Ichi did not take his job to mean he had to shed blood, but he could easily enable others to do so for him. That was why he focused on his barriers, to have control over the terrain of a fight as a whole, something that still had many liabilities. He was sure he could work it out in time, but for now he had to work off the idea that that was not the case.
[break][break]

"I always had plans to work more as a diplomat, or gate guard then a field shinobi. My skillset was never honed to use on a battlefield where I was not in open space - something that is very abundant here. Though I am not entirely useless in smaller spaces, there is just a very different trick to using my jutsu in those sorts of places," Ichi would reply casually now, brushing past the statements nodding as it was his turn to listen to what Shosuke had on offer and to say it was a far better skillset then his own would be underselling it by miles. Ichi favored the people who were well-rounded rather then the strange non-sensical pigeon-holed types such as himself - a natural result of seeing the differences and what they brought to the table. Ichi could not adapt on the fly in terms of his own skills, he had to have others to format entire plans around differing factors. He was slowly gaining a few tools outside of his common repetoire, but they were... few and far between.
[break][break]

"I do think I understand you, yeah. Though I doubt you ever will be, especially not if you keep testing the waters of new techniques. My own goal is to double the reach of my barriers that I create, properly get them to a respectable size compared to the mokuton I have witnessed from the Senju. I believe you would be able to help me tell that quite readily, but I am unsure of what you wish me to help you with in the current moment. Is there a technique you have been struggling to learn?" Ichi would shift the topic forward past their moral and philosophical studies to something more active. He already had his barrier up and active, he might as well see if Shosuke was also in need of general skills training or help with a new technique.
