There had been little time to waste, since the incident at the market of the border town. Uriko had been eager to dive into the investigations regarding the fellow known only for now as the "masked man". But information was scarce, and even though jumping into a situation with limited information available did have its time and place, the truth was that without any further information regarding this antagonist, it would be like trying to crack a difficult riddle without any clues. 

To Uriko's satisfaction, the militia officers, though they were not ninja, knew, to a large extent, how to do their jobs. They had informed the criminals, who had been apprehended by the Konoha kunoichi, that giving all the information they had was in their best interests, as they would be shown leniency if they did. Otherwise, they would receive whatever punishment was befitting of any crime that was committed in the near future, as chances were that the masked man was behind such, and these crimes would possibly have been averted with the information that could be given. As second-rate criminals, the threat made them very compliant, and they had cooperated enthusiastically.

Still, there wasn't too much to go on. The criminals only knew where they usually used to meet the masked fellow, and that was all. But while describing the masked man, one of the criminals had mentioned that his shoes had been muddy when they had met, noticeable because the shade of mud was not the usual type in the region. And fate was on the side of the Konoha ninja, because someone among the militia pointed out that such mud colors came from a quarry to the south of the border town. It was likely that was where the masked man had his hideout. And even if it wasn't, it was a good place to start searching.

With this information, preparations were to be made, and Uriko would meet up with Miho at a rendezvous spot outside town. She had been quick with her preparations, and had hurried to the meeting place, hoping Miho would be there, or on her way.

Muddied Shoes.... Miho would remain close to the Headquarters as Uriko had gone forth to prepare for their next steps. It was clear that this venture would be far more in depth than their previous patrol. Yet, it did little to change the interest of the woman in resolving this as safely or as quickly. They had been made aware of the usual spot in which the Masked Man had met with his two counterparts, meaning that they had a heading thanks to the Militia. Still, it would do very little if they were not ready to engage in whatever awaited them from there. Perhaps starting there in their search could provide them with more of a concrete heading. Though the matters of what to do if this man was waiting for them remained to be understood. What were their true motives aside from the embarrassment of Konohagakure's ninja? A task in which they had failed, but now likely to be aware of? As she leaned against the wall of the structure, she'd see the green haired female arrive, a smile upon her face as she placed one hand within her pocket. "There you are? Are you ready?" Miho had managed to gain a bit of a reprieve in the time since their arrival, so she had what she needed in good amounts. Of course, in a fight, if need be, she held the best two tools she had come to master over the years. As Uriko reached the rendezvous point, she noticed that Miho was already there, waiting for her arrival. She made a little wave and hurried over, a smile on her own face. "As ready as I can be, Miho-sama!" the Genin replied to Miho's question enthusiastically, dramatically punching the air. Truth was, she was quite nervous, not knowing what to expect on this mission. But she felt it wasn't too professional to show worry and thus attempted to mask it with enthusiasm.

As Miho went over the details they had received from the town militia, Uriko nodded. "Yeah, one of the security guys mentioned that the color of mud described could only be from an abandoned mine south of here, as the mud comes from deep beneath the earth, and such a shade won't be found for miles around. I have reason to believe that information, because the security guy had previously worked in the mines and therefore knows the color of soil in it. I think he has no reason to lie to us, unless he is in cahoots with the Masked Man, which will lend some real complications to this mission, if that were the case."

So saying, she pulled out a rough map sketch of the region, that had been given to her. "So far, the path to the mine seems rather straightforward. I don't think we'll miss it, but at the same time, I'd rather we approached furtively. Who knows whether they'd be expecting us?" If Miho had nothing else to do in the town, Uriko would begin to follow the directions on the map to get to the mine.

"Let us assume that the security isn't in league with our target and hope for the best...though still caution would not be unwarranted in this..." Miho wasn't among suspecting foul play in any of this, considering just how their target was operating at this point. So far, he had managed to get others to do their job for them, meaning it was possible that he could attempt this again by setting up a trap. Still, with limited leads presenting themselves, the mine was the only option for more. As Uriko withdrew a map, Miho would glance over at it with a calm expression adjusting her vest across her waist in prepration for the hike ahead. It was indeed a easy journey to the location, but the idea of a possible ambush did linger on her mind. Thankfully, she was not alone in wishing to tread carefully. "Agreed...we will attempt to remain as hidden as possible. If the worst comes we can at least be aware of possible options to engage or delay them. So far from what we've learned, this individual is not above explosives so it would not surprise me if the mine is indeed rigged to blow if intruders are found within..." In saying this, Miho would follow behind Uriko as they began their march, rechecking her gear to be sure she was ready. If anything else, she imagined that there may be more fighting ahead of them. Though if luck was still favoring them, they could perhaps avoid it once more. It was good to see that Miho was in agreement with Uriko, as far as going in stealthily was concerned. "That's definitely something to consider," she said thoughtfully, as she tapped a finger on her chin, when the Med Nin Chief spoke of the possibility of having booby traps in the mines, especially of the explosive kind. "We'll definitely have to be very furtive on this one." Fortunately for the pair, the area was decently wooded, as Hi no Kuni was known to have many forested areas. Even though the area was light forest, the trees were sufficient, not only to travel in, but also to allow the shinobi to approach places while being hidden considerably, as long as they kept to the trees. With little else to discuss, the journey to the mines would begin.

Uriko's plan, if Miho did not disapprove, was to stick to the cover of the trees, but remain close enough to the border of the forest so that she could keep an eye on the road. After the two had traveled for a bit within the woods, Uriko noticed a flash of movement, and stopped. If Miho looked at the road, she would see three fellows, all carrying large knives. The way they walked and looked around, it was clear that they were doing some sort of patrol duty. And as there were no other settlements close by, except the border town, which these men obviously were not from (as they were not wearing the militia uniform), it was very likely that they were lookouts, set in place to ensure intruders were spotted. The men kept well away from the forest, obviously in case an attack came from there. This was a blessing though, for they were too far to hear anything if the two kunoichi talked in hushed tones.

While could have been easy to take over command of this mission, Miho would stick to her word in allowing for Uriko to proceed with leadership in this to the end. So far, there had not been anything the girl had done that seemed to dictate for her Miho to assume control, so she would not take this learning experience away from her. If anything, she was showing just how ready she was for facing such a similar situation later down the line when she reached the next rank of her path. With them keeping to the cover of the trees, ensuring their own security from sight, they would spot the the three man patrol on the road. As they held no alliance with the militia, and the border town being no where near, it was easy to assume that they were indeed look outs for the mine. Which meant their target could not have been far. "Scouts..." Her tone was soft as she stated this, keeping low within the branches as she looked on at the three. They were armed, but it would not take much to remove such a blockade if needed. Still, there was the advantage of their cover to simply avoid them entirely and continue on their way to the mine. "It is clear that we are on the right path...as I said...I leave the decision to you on how we proceed...We can take them, but perhaps it would be best to avoid conflict until we reach our destination, allowing for our presence to remain unknown..." A fair suggestion. After all, it was possible that them being here only meant a small number of these individuals would be awaiting them further in. Any decrease in forces was an boon for the two, and would keep them from being overwhelmed. Though if this was indeed all the resistance that could be afforded, it would also save time and lead to less dramatic encounter with their masked assailant. Miho offered two suggestions: first, they could take out the scouts, so that these would not pose a potential problem if the shinobi had to fight their way out of things, and second, they could sneak past the scouts and try to avoid unnecessary combat. Each option came with its own advantages and disadvantages, but as someone who did not prefer violent means to solving problems, Uriko was willing to take the less violent route.

"I think we should try to avoid them," she replied, her eyes on the patrolling scouts. "Even if we took them out and restrained them, we run the risk of having them wake up and complicate matters, unless we took pains to prevent them from doing so, and the only ways I can think of accomplishing this are either time-consuming, or will cost them their lives."

Moving on past the patrol, in the relative safety of the trees, Uriko continued. After a distance close to a hundred meters, the trees suddenly stopped, having been cleared by human action. Some distance away, in the side of a huge hill, was the entrance to the mine. A single person guarded it, although from his posture, he didn't seem to be too alert. He probably expected that any potential hostiles would be noticed first by the scouts. This one would need to be distracted or dealt with, for them to enter.

"Okay, this one might be a problem. We'll have to distract him without making him suspicious, or knock him out, if we want to get in. Either way, we don't want to alert anyone inside. I could poison him at this distance, I think." She knew Miho was allowing her to make the decisions, but she still looked expectantly at the Tokubetsu Jounin, to see if she approved.

With going for the less direct approach being the goal, Miho would follow Uriko through the trees as they avoided the scouts below them. A good move on their part as any interaction with the two would be a possible waste of time or impede them in their advance. Yet as they came to the end of their cover, it looked as if the entrance was indeed in sight. Though a single guard blocked their path. As Miho looked toward the green haired girl, hearing her suggestions, the poison route seemed the most preferred as it could be done swiftly and between the two of them, executed without alerting those within. "If you trust your aim, I would go with the poison. An unconscious guard is far better than one that could awaken from a hard hit. I can quickly remove him from sight once you have done this..." Miho trusted her speed to be enough to get to the man before he could hit the ground. This would allow for them to enter inside unseen and continue forward toward their man. "When you're ready...I'll begin to move in..." Miho would wait for the girl to proceed with her part of the task, allowing herself to silently drop from the cover of the branches to the bushes below. As she knelt down, feeling the prickle of woody branches around her, she'd wait until the poison had been released, prompting her to move in swiftly as she saw the man begin their drop. In a single motion, she'd swoop in, scooping the man into her arms before placing him down into a nearby crate. In looking around to ensure they were still clear, she'd proceed to wait for Uriko to join her, soon nodding as they'd continue their approach in stealth. Miho expressed approval of Uriko's intention to take the guard out with stealth, and the green haired Genin nodded, as she rummaged within her weapon pouch, eventually drawing out three senbon, as well as a small bottle containing a viscous green fluid. She dipped the needles into the stuff, closed the bottle, and returned it to the pouch before turning to look at Miho. "This poison is somewhat volatile, and its effects wear off relatively quickly, but I think if I hit close to his central nervous system pathways, it should be enough to put him down for a bit." So saying, she waited for Miho to get into position.

Precision was key, and while Uriko was not known for being an impeccable aim, hitting a motionless target was no difficult feat for a ninja, and so she took aim, and then let fly the senbon. They covered the distance between the trees and the unsuspecting man, all three needles lodging in his neck. His expression changed into a reflexive wince, but the poison was already taking its toll, and the guard's brows were still creased, when he fell wordlessly. Uriko almost didn't seem Miho as the Med Nin Chief swiftly caught the man before his body hit the ground, and even as she quickly moved from her perch to join her superior, the admiration could still be seen in her eyes as she returned the nod.

The cave interior was well-lit, with lanterns hung in various places. There was apparently no one in the stretch of tunnel that led downwards at an angle into the earth, although after a bit of a walk, the sounds of voices could be heard. They seemed to be arguing. "We've not heard from the guys we sent to the border town, so let's move on to another plan," said one voice. "But we don't have any other plan, unless you want to go and directly tussle with Konoha ninja." The first voice sounded feminine, but both sounded slightly muffled, as though the speakers' mouths were concealed.

So far their teamwork was holding up well... As they moved in unison to deal with the obstacle of the guard, Miho would nod with a smile toward Uriko as they began to make their way inside. The depths of the mine was certainly vast, but it was logical for the time spent here for the workers to have made a very decent path within the mountain. Yet as the light of the interior gave for a much easier venture, the voices coming from further in was enough to prompt Miho to stop, holding up her hand as she looked toward her companion and then kept herself close to the wall as she listened in. Hearing the discussion, the two voices were clearly at odds with each other on how to proceed with their plans having been delayed. At the very least, they were aware of the delay in their previous attempts at the town, noting the lack of communication from the two they had sent there earlier. Of course, now it seemed as if they didn't have a firm grasps on what to do next. It could easily be determined that perhaps this meant that neither voice were indeed the master mind behind this plot. Or course, with no confirmation of their identities, their numbers were unaccounted for. Miho remained silent, though she looked to the green haired female with a calm expression, checking back at the path in which they took to be sure that none were coming their way from behind. With fortune, they could continue to eavesdrop on the conversation and learn more. If it seemed as if they were at even odds, they could attempt a direct approach. But Miho hazard to guess that their target, the man in the man...was still among the missing in the conversation. Uriko, just like Miho, was inclined to hope for good fortune and attempt to continue eavesdropping on the conversation being held in the room outside which the Konoha ninja had hidden themselves. It was usually the best course of action to try to acquire more information before attempting to accost the defaulters. If there were any interruptions, then perhaps the eavesdropping strategy would have to change, but until that happened, or the speakers disclosed their motives, Uriko thought it best to wait and get more information.

"If you wish to be so readily dissuaded, be my guest," the first speaker was saying, "but giving up now will ensure that we don't achieve our intended goal."

"I'm not eager to continue with a failed plan," came the reply. "It's best to cut our losses and move on."

"The plan hasn't failed. Or, even if it has, it won't be traced back to us, unless you were an idiot and somehow left clues for the Konoha ninja to follow."

"If I'd left clues, do you think I'd be here arguing with you and waiting for the Konoha shinobi to find us?" The voice sounded slightly annoyed. "I'm always careful. I trust my warning instincts. And presently, they're telling me that this enterprise is no longer successful. Amegakure does not seem intent on establishing its presence here, and if they are, it certainly won't be through the use of mercenary ninja not affiliated with them. If we had raised tensions against Konoha, perhaps the Arashi no Kuni guys would have been more likely to take us seriously and be willing to discuss business with us. Since we couldn't even succeed in this task, we should just leave."

At that point, Miho would notice a muffled sound of footsteps leisurely heading their way. The approaching figure had not yet come into sight, but it was clear that in a few moments, the person would arrive.

Sometimes the most subtle approach paid off... It appeared that these stunts had been a means in which to garner the favor of Amegakure. A sensible idea, though even she could see that it was a long shot of a strategy to hope that they would trust a possible infiltration to a mercenary group that could just as easily shift their opinion. As proof being presented in their indecision. Still, with this information, it was at least clear that they were no more than just a group with high ambitions. It wasn't some enemy attack, which meant dealing with them would likely be the end of them. That was Miho's hope at the very least... Yet as footsteps neared their location, it appeared that their eavesdropping session was coming to an end. There were different ways to approach this moment. One was to strike at the incoming foe and hope that such an execution would be successful enough to not draw attention to those deeper in. Another would be to perhaps blend in. Considering where they could have come from, they must have noticed the guard had gone missing. Meaning one of them could very well pretend to be them. Though Miho didn't trust her technique to truly pull her through. The alternative was to do their best to remain out of sight. "Use the cover of the shadows on the ceiling..." It was as silent on order as she could make, Miho quickly pushing herself closer to the side of the wall, moving herself into corner as used her chakra to ascend the side of the wall. In keeping herself close and hunkered in, it was her hope that the shadows that were cornered into be enough to shield her. If not, she was ready to move in once it appeared otherwise. As Uriko strained her ears to listen to the discussion between the duo responsible for the attempted assault on the border town, she noticed that Miho looked at her sharply, before quietly ordering her to make for the ceiling. And just about then, Uriko heard the telltale sound of feet scraping against the earth. Someone was coming. Silently, she nodded at the Med Nin chief, and, using her Tree Walking Skill, as quietly as she could afford, Uriko ran up the side wall of the cave nearest to her.

The lightings of the tunnel were not very bright, and the ceiling was quite high, affording Uriko a decent place to conceal herself. Although someone looking up would eventually notice her, it was unlikely, with the amount of shadows on the ceiling, that a cursory glance would reveal the kunoichi. Miho had chosen a good spot to hide as well, and just a few moments after the two Konoha ninja had hidden themselves, a portly-looking fellow whose appearance was that of a stereotypical bumpkin, waddled into view, obviously unhurried and thus unsuspicious.

"Oi, bosses," he called out, stopping at the entrance to the room outside which Miho and Uriko had been eavesdropping, "I got the cart you wanted me to get." A figure in a hood and mask emerged from the room. From the tone of voice, it was the first speaker. "Good. Get your mates and have them pack our stuff." The bumpkin scratched his head. "We leaving so soon?" he asked. "I thought you still got plans to do or something."

"Do we pay you to think?" came the irritated response. "Shut your flapping mouth, get your fellow apes, and pack out this place. No one must know we were here." So saying, the bumpkin would turn, muttering under his breath as he returned the same way he had come, while the masked figure slunk back into the room. Uriko quietly made her way along the ceiling to Miho. "Should we try to apprehend those two before the others arrive?" she whispered.

Further insight seemed to prove that they were in the process of moving out. A clear indication that their plans were indeed changed by the presence of Konoha shinobi. Though another thing to note would be the reflective statement gained by the passing guard, the verification of not one, but two bosses. It was possible that this was no more than a turn of phrase, but any information into whom they might encounter within that room was helpful none the less. In the end, with the knowledge now given, Uriko seemed to look to Miho for guidance on their next move. While having secured themselves in shadows, it appeared now might be the best time than any other to engage with the two lone figures. If nothing else, it could very well end this. They were isolated and their support would be distant at best before their arrival could be made. "Yes...on the sign of smoke..we'll move in to apprehend..." Miho would remain hanging close to the wall, her hand drawn toward her pouch as she drew further a smoke bomb. It was her hope that with the cloud of cover, they could move into the room and take down the pair without much resistance. With a swift enough action, they could perhaps do so without a fight entirely, leading to only dealing with the men outside. A part her recognized a bit of her husband's logic showing through, but it didn't make it any less true. Not to mention safer. In pulling out the smoke bomb, the young woman would toss it against the side of the wall, watching it bounce briefly off the surface and then begin to roll forward into the room. Upon performing a signal seal, the object would erupt to release the stream of smoke from within. As the powder created the cover they required, Miho would quickly descend down and move toward the room. In seeking out the figures, she'd see the faint as she quickly moved toward one, taking hold of them before placing them against the wall. With nearly over three years of medical training, Miho has become a capable physician within the village, adapting to the path of helping to create a healthy and safe village. This knowledge allows for her to use many medical ninjutsu and techniques effectively that can save lives on and off the battle field, and it only appears that she has scratched the surface of just what she can do in the future. In some causes, she can come up with various versions of these jutsus, improving upon them to make them just as effective when on the field. Samurai Legacy The Adachi clan was a prominent group of samurai that were established within Tetsu no Kuni(The Land of Iron), before the group transferred a select few to the Hidden Leaf Village as to their alliance to Konohagakure. These traits have been ingrained into the girl very soul as she carries their blood within her. As the bumpkin wandered off, Uriko kept her eyes on her superior, awaiting her orders. Miho approved, indicating that they would spring their attack as soon as a smoke bomb was released. Then the Med Nin Chief drew a small pellet from her weapon pouch. On seeing Miho draw the bomb, Uriko reached into her own pouch, drawing a special senbon coated with a unique resin and placing it in her mouth. This was a Himitsuba, treated with the Sasayaki Doku. If her opponent had any combat proficiency, dealing with lethargic muscles would give Uriko the advantage against them.


The smoke bomb dropped, and silently rolled to the mouth of the room in which the 'bosses' were, before bursting, releasing a rather large puff of smoke. Since Uriko was on the ceiling, all she needed to do was drop off, and right herself so that she landed on her feet when she descended. Then the Genin charged in, just a step behind Miho, although she moved to one side so as to make sure she didn't bump into the Med Nin Chief while they engaged their opponents.

Although the smoke was opaque, Uriko simply followed the grunts and gasps of surprise, soon coming upon a form in the smoke. She spat the needle at the form, and heard a yelp, which informed her that she had hit her target. Sweeping out their legs from underneath them, she drew a kunai and pointed it at them, silently threatening them to be still. "Who the heck are--" the one Miho had apprehended began, before seeing the forehead protector on the Med Nin Chief's arm. "Shit...."
