the worst case scenario is you
Why in the world had he agreed to such a thing? Kids were not his forte in the least and the last two in particular he had to deal with nearly made the chunin swear off having some of his own. Granted, one was just scared and looking for her only remaining family left, but the other was simply a hyper child with manners that left quite a bit to be desired. If it weren't for the fact that she had come from a clan that the village didn't have a ton of information on the experience would have been completely unmemorable; alas the Nara was able to obtain quite a bit of data on that half rabbit child and her family.

But that was neither here nor there for today dealt with a presentation, but not just any presentation, one geared towards a class of academy students. Shikajin remembered his time in the academy more or less as a haze, but most importantly knew how impulsive kids could act if the opportunity presented itself and their attention wasn't being held, and talking about the human body wasn't going to help matters. The medic didn't dislike speaking on his profession, per say, it just depended on the audience. Other medics or those who had medical knowledge were obviously the easiest to talk to: the medical jargon could be used freely and there was rarely a need to water down the conversation. Others... not so much. Patients, friends and families of patients, and the general public as a whole required quite a bit of hand holding when it came to the topic of medicine. Things had to be spelled out clearly and slowly, and there was a ton of repeating involved. Perhaps that was why the powers at be asked, no, insisted that the Nara make the presentation: staying in the same circle for too long had a way of disconnecting one from the rest of the world and making it difficult to accurately communicate, and all the years of diving head first into his medical studies left his bedside manner lacking.

The grounds of the academy were more or less how the chunin remembered them. Plenty of space for eager young students to stretch their legs while targets for projectile practice were lined up in a row. Many a day had spent in this very same area learning how to become a shinobi, and now he'd be giving back. '4-E' was the sign that hung above a door, the murmur of voices easily heard coming from the other side of the wall. Looked like it was going to be a full house. He'd knock on the door before sliding half of it back and taking a step into the room.

"Ah, Shikajin-san, you're here!" The instructor would gleefully state as he motioned for the chunin to come stand next to him. "Class, today we are going to have a special presentation from one of our village medics, Nara Shikajin. I expect you to give him your full attention and don't be afraid to ask questions... The floor is yours." He would add before giving the Nara a slight nod to begin.

Dark hues would peer out into the crowd, a bunch of young faces that didn't look familiar in the least... except one. It hadn't occurred to him that the girl who had been kicking and screaming her way through the hospital a while back was in the academy, but given the circumstances Shikajin wouldn't have had a reason to. Now came the intro, important in grasping an audience's attention and most would start with a quote or some kind of demonstration, but the Nara didn't have anything like that prepared. Instead, he'd work backwards.

"Good morning, as your teacher said my name is Nara Shikajin, and in addition to being a chunin I also work as one of the medics for Konoha. Before I begin, does anyone have any questions regarding the medical field?" Most saved questions for the end of their presentation but making a bunch of kids sit through a long spiel was a recipe for disaster so instead the Nara figured that everyone would have a more enjoyable time if the setting was more of an open dialogue allowing the medic to answer specific questions and throw in whatever else insight he felt was necessary rather than droning on for however long. He just hoped that one of them would actually have a question...

The academy was a good place for aspiring shinobi and people alike to learn certain things about becoming a full fledged shinobi, such as ninjutsu, taijutsu, the rules of being a shinobi, and the lifestyle. All of that was considered the basics, but what about the few that actually sought out a career in the medical field? Most students went into the profession blind unless they received such knowledge personally from an expert. It wasn’t exactly fair, although without medics most hidden villages would fall. It was more important than what many teachers realized, but today was special in the case that the focus of class today would be around the medical arts, taught by a professional.

The class was restless as the rustled through bags and talked amongst one another. Kazui on the other hand remained quiet, seated in the far back of the classroom with her pen and paper at the ready. The door slid open, and the chatter that filled the room seemed to fade as the man stepped foot into the room. The Uchiha didn’t pay it much attention until the sensei spoke. ’Nara Shikajin? That sounds familiar.’ She would think to herself as her eyes slowly shifted towards the front of the room. Seeing the black hair and eyes instantly reminded Kazui of that day in the hospital. It was awkward, but surely he knew that her grandmother had passed not too long ago.

Sinking deeper into her seat as the Nara greeted the class, part of her wanted to go home but the other half of her wanted to learn more from Shikajin.

"Good morning!”

The class would respond loudly and in unison, everyone except for Kazui that is. Her voice was soft, and she didn’t put much effort into her greeting. Most of the kids had absolutely zero medical training, so most of them didn’t even know where to start. They all looked around at one another, trying to find out where to start. Until a voice reaches out from the back of the classroom.

"H-How hard is it being a medic?”

Kazui would ask softly. It must’ve been hard, as in Shikajin’s case, he had to go through the troubles of handling her when her grandmother was once admitted to the leaf’s emergency room. It was always hard on the family, but how hard was it for the medics themselves?

the worst case scenario is you
Shikajin had half expected a bit of hesitancy at his style of presentation. Aside from himself and the teacher the entire audience were a group of kids still learning to become shinobi let alone the intricacies of the medical field. But, this was a great time to at least introduce them to that area as the village would always need medics, nurses, etc. just as much, if not more, than it needed a military force; and if one was good enough they could be part of both. He hated the word indoctrination but it was essentially what institutions had to do to ensure they had a steady supply of bodies for whatever tasks needed being done in the future, and medics were no different.

A lone voice would eventually speak up, dark hues zeroing in on the source that was none other than Kazui. Shikajin had heard word of her grandmother passing a while back which he knew must have been tough on the girl, but it was good to see that she was still attending classes. From what she had told him that day in the hospital the old woman was the only family she had left, but given the clan she hailed from the Nara surmised that the girl wouldn't be left to fend for herself for long. He didn't have a way of knowing for sure what her situation was but assumed that the Uchiha were taking care of one of their own.

Now, to her question: how hard was it being a medic? The easy answer was: very. A lot of long nights, intense studying and tons of practice. A lot of trial and error with more of the latter, but it was rewarding being able to help people. "There are tough days. A lesson I learned early on was that not everyone can be saved, and coming to terms with that is rough. But so long as you focus on doing your best to help the people you can, it gets easier." He would reply hoping his words wouldn't scare the class too much, or in Kazui's case make it seem like the Nara hadn't done his utmost to keep her grandmother alive. Albeit he knew that the medicine was only a stop gap for her health problems and that surgery would have perhaps kept her around longer, but given her age and how complicated of a procedure it was the woman's chances of surviving both it and the rehab were slim..

The classroom filled with quiet whispers once Kazui asked her question. It could have been because they were interested in knowing the answer, or talking about the girl’s situation at home, figuring out that her grandmother had passed prior. Some people were nicer to her because of it, while some often saw it as a joke and saw her as unlucky, but for the most part things remained relatively the same.

"But does it really?”

Kazui would fold her arms and mumble to herself in regards to Shikajin stating that it gets ‘easier’. The answer that the man provided made sense from a medical standpoint, of course it wasn’t possible to save each and every person that found their way in the hospital seeking emergency services, it just wasn’t possible. Once again chatter filled the room as the classmates conversed amongst themselves. An arm raised from a boy who sat in the front row, waiting to ask his question, and once the man allowed him to speak, he would.

"With that being said you must see a lot of bad things. How do you handle yourself afterwards? I guess this could be applied to being a normal shinobi as well, since bad things happen all the time.”

The boy would ask softly, pushing his glasses back into place as he prepared to take notes. While he was mostly referring to seeing people die in front of their eyes, he also meant seeing the horrible sights of it as well. It might not have been a medical question but he still wanted to know the answer.

From the look on the girl's face she didn't seem all that convinced of Shikajin's answer, but in wanting to be brutally honest with a bunch of kids he had omitted some hard truths. Some deaths lingered longer than others, hell, even if a person was alive there were always lasting effects of their injury or illness that would prevent them from being the person they once were, and sometimes those cases were harder to compartmentalize than if the person had just died altogether. But that would have been a bit much and definitely scared away quite a few of them, so in time they'd just have to experience that on their own... or be told when they were older, whichever came first.

Another hand would raise, this time a boy, and he asked how the medic dealt with bad things happening. The Nara could have easily given a very similar answer that he had given to Kazui but that risked losing the attention of the group. In reality, however, Shikajin had to hit rock bottom before finding ways to deal with the trauma of less than pleasant events taking place. Losing Chozaro had hit him hard, very hard, and he had all but given up shinobi duties and life for a decent period of time until Inoyami had been able to pull him from that dark place. From there it was slowly getting back into the swing of things and finding activities that kept his mind occupied, one of which was devoting a lot of his attention to studying the healing arts.

"For me, it was important to develop hobbies and interests outside of medicine and shinobi work to take my mind off of the bad things. For instance, my clan is known for taking care of the deer that call the forests in and around the village home. I spend quite a bit of time with them and it helps to take my mind off the stresses of shinobi life. Obviously you all will come up with different paths of relaxation whether it's spending time with friends and family, picking up a hobby, or whatever else suits your needs."

He wouldn't sour the mood with the story of losing his Akimichi teammate, it was still sore to him after all this time and the main reason the Nara barely slept, choosing instead to bury himself in work. His sleepless nights had helped him developed quite a few techniques that would hopefully prevent him from losing anyone else he cared for. A pipe dream, of course, but one that Shikajin was striving to achieve.

The young boy nodded his head at the answers of the guest speaker, and the rest of the class would follow suit, taking quick notes here and there to ensure they would remember what he was saying. It was good to take a break from the shinobi life every now and then, and to find a hobby that could clear one’s mind. Those were the exact words that Lady Tomoe preached to Kazui just weeks before, perhaps it was more important to someone’s mental health than the young Uchiha could’ve imagined. The girl sighed softly underneath the scribbling of ink on paper as she placed her head gently in her hand, her arm propped up on the desk as the other twirled the pencil along her fingers.

’This lesson is going nowhere fast..’ the girl would think to herself. Majority of the class had absolutely zero medical experience, terminology, etc so they didn’t even know what to ask. Perhaps she should try to shoulder the burden and ask the majority of the questions, albeit that was the last thing that she wanted to do. Her hand slowly raised, and once she got Shikajin’s attention, she would ask away.

"So...Shikajin-san. Now that we know what it’s like to be a medic..kind of...do you mind explaining and demonstrating how we can tend to minor wounds?”

The young girl would ask, and the rest of the class would agree. It seemed like an important thing for even a civilian to know, let alone a shinobi, so it made sense for them to have that knowledge stowed away somewhere in their mind just in case they were ever in the dire situation. Maybe it could help save one of their lives one day down the road, albeit it wasn’t like Kazui cared for many of them anyway, everything she asked was mostly for her own personal knowledge.

Shikajin was thankful that the kids seemed to be receptive to his words. He was general enough to prevent confusing them but also added enough specificity to give them something to go off of. Saying that everything in their lives would be unicorns and rainbows would be a lie few, if any, of them believed, but being too pessimistic would have equally disastrous effects. In the end it would be up to each of them to find whatever brought them relief in times of stress and as they grew those hopefully said activities grew with them.

Alas, speaking in theory to a bunch of students was only going to get the man so far and as Kazui spoke up once more it looked like they all wanted a more physical demonstration. It'd be tough to show off some of his more advanced techniques without someone actually being hurt, but since none of them were training to be medics at the moment demonstrating the basics would suffice. "Definitely, but I'll need a volunteer." Shikajin would reply as he watched a few hands shoot up in the air. The chunin would point to a young girl in the third row who was all too pleased to play assistant and quickly zoomed down the stairs to stand at the Nara's side.

"Even without access to medical jutsu it's important that each and every one of you know how to tend to wounds. Of course, some will be more severe than simple cuts and sprains but doing your part to lessen the damage can spell the difference between everyone making it home and... not." The medic would speak before rummaging through his bag, pulling out a small bottle of clear liquid, gauze, and a roll of bandages.

"If you're dealing with any kind of open wound your first line of thought may be to try and close it as soon as possible, but without proper cleaning you run the risk of the wound getting infected. You'll want to disinfect the area, or at the very least rinse the area with water, before applying gauze and a bandage to keep it in place. This bottle here is something you can pick up easily from a clinic or supply store and contains a useful antiseptic, and even if you don't plan on becoming medics I suggest keeping one in your munitions bag. Now, say if we're dealing with a broken bone..."
Shikajin would add before swapping out the gauze and cleaning solution for two longer pieces of wood-like material.

"The most important thing is to not move the person until you set a splint. You want to try and get the bone back in it's original position as much as possible. The easiest way to do this is creating a rigid structure, and you can use strong enough branches, long metal pieces, basically whatever will stop the broken bone from moving around." He would speak while demonstrating how to create a splint over his assistant's arm by putting the two planks on either side of her arm and taping them in place with the bandage.

With the demonstration complete the Nara would allow the student to walk about the room showing her classmates how the splint had been put together. Practice was obviously the best way to get good at those types of things and at this point in his studies Shikajin could have put together a splint in his sle--, er, with ease. "Now, talking about what to do can only help you so much but actually seeing it in action will be better. I've gotten permission from your instructor to show first hand how healing techniques work. A small cut and a bit of pain but nothing more, you have my word. Any volunteers?"

It was a risky proposition that took quite some time to get approved by the powers at be, but with the promise of nothing too invasive happening to any of the students they eventually obliged. If none volunteered then the teacher would be the test subject --which may have been the right play to begin with-- and if push came to shove then Shikajin would call upon his summons.

With her question out of the way, the young Uchiha would lean back into her desk, grabbing a hold of her pencil, and sinking deeper in her seat as the chunin spoke of needing a volunteer to help with the demonstration. The girl couldn’t help but to feel as if he were going to pick her out of everyone because he knew her the most, kinda. Even with all the hands that shot into the sky, offering themselves as dummies for the sake of the lesson, Kazui still felt as if she were going to be chosen. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Shikajin’s medical skills and capacity, for it that were the case then she would’ve never left her grandmother’s side. It was more so along the lines of her not wanting to be bothered with the task.

Luckily enough a young gleeful girl managed to draw the man’s attention, which resulted in a slight sigh of relief, and yet a sense of betrayal at the same time. He could’ve given the Uchiha the chance to decline it. Once the other girl reached the front, Kazui would lean forward in her chair, ready to take any notes that she deemed fit. As he spoke, the class both took notes and watched the man as he went about doing these medical things. Of course some wounds may be worse than others but if everyone does their part, they wouldn’t have to worry, normally. It drastically increased a teams chances of making it home, so it could be quite important to pay attention.

The class nodded their heads as they listened. Shikajin was being straightforward and majority of them appreciated that he wasn’t exactly watering things down so to say. Kazui was one especially, she knew that life wasn’t a walk in the park, especially the life of a shinobi. The man’s demonstration was rather simple, and some students even felt as if they could do it themselves, although that might not have been the case. The student went from desk to desk showing off the splint after Shikajin had finished it.

Kazui was pleased with this part of the lesson as it provided her with more knowledge that she didn’t exactly know before. She knew that closing the wound was important, but she never knew how important cleaning the wound first was to the entire process. The teen was a rather proficient threader so to say. She was good at knitting, and sewing things together, so perhaps she could close a small wound with some stitches.

That part of the demonstration was done, but it seemed as if Shikajin wanted to showcase one other thing to the kids, and that just so happen to be healing techniques. Kazui had been admitted into the hospital on several occasions throughout the years, but she never truly encountered medical ninjutsu, although the girl was told it was used on her when she was taken to the ER after a paper bomb had gone off, nearly killing her in the process. Although the nurses were afraid to truly tell her of the fact that she had actually died, if even for a split moment. The girl couldn’t help but think that this was only used on severe wounds that couldn’t be handled by normal means.

A sigh escaped her lungs as Shikajin asked for another volunteer. She was curious about the technique so her hand slowly rose towards the ceiling, as the rest of the class would’ve rather not be cut up by the guest speaker. But as quickly as she started to put her hand up, something told her to take it back. She didn’t want to be the center of attention.

Being a test dummy for bandaging and what not was greatly different than being a test subject when it came to actually being hurt, and it showed in the lack of willing participants. Even with his disclaimer that the 'injury' wouldn't be more than a simple cut the students were none too eager to be sliced and diced, talking among each other trying to figure out who would be foolish enough to volunteer, and they would soon find out. A hand would briefly raise before retreating back into the mass of bodies and had it not been for a few keen heads turning to see who it was Shikajin may have missed it, but Kazui would not be so fortunate today.

"Ah, Kazui, excellent." The medic would respond not giving any thought to how that may have looked to the class at large. He didn't know how public the knowledge of the girl's grandmother's passing was but it wasn't a far cry to think that at least a few medics would know about it. No matter, their prior interaction provided Shikajin with at least a little relief that his assistant was strong willed for her years so a little cut shouldn't have been a problem. When the student would finally take her place next to him the Nara would remove a scalpel from his bag before beginning to speak. "Normally a cut from something this small could be taken care of by the bandaging method I just showed you, but let's imagine Kazui has a much larger cut that mere bandages won't help much with." He would motion for the girl to raise her arm before making a small incision a few inches across the length of her forearm; nothing dangerous but deep enough to draw a little blood.

"In a situation like this you would rely on some form of medical jutsu to help heal the wound, in this case the Mystical Palm Technique." The Nara would raise his free hand while channeling healing chakra through it, a greenish hue enveloping his appendage. Slowly the medic would place his hand over Kazui's wound and within moments it would begin to close up and if not for the blood that had already been drawn one wouldn't have even been able to tell that the girl had been cut in the first place. He would prompt for the Uchiha to hold her arm up to show that the wound had been healed completely, and afterwards providing a cloth for the girl to wipe the blood off of her arm.

NAME: Shousen Jutsu - [Mystical Palm Technique]
RANK: A
CHAKRA USAGE: Medium
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]
REQUIREMENTS: Enhanced Chakra Control & Medical Training SAs
ELEMENT: N/a
DESCRIPTION:

This medical ninjutsu allows the user to speed up the body's natural healing process by sending chakra from their hands into a wound or afflicted body part. This allows the user to heal a patient without the need for medical equipment or surgery, making it very useful on the battlefield. It can be used to treat both external and internal injuries. It is vital to match the amount of chakra used to the severity of the affliction or injury. This requires a great amount of chakra control. Because of this, only a few highly skilled medical-nin are able to use this technique to it's full potential. As miraculous as this technique is, it should be known that it can only speed up what the body is already capable of doing.

Once the girl heard that her name had been called and the eyes of everyone in the class turned back to look at, she would groan deep within as she brought herself straight up into her chair. ’Why in the hell did I put my hand up?’ The young Uchiha would ask herself in a loathing manner as her dark eyes scanned the room.

A sigh escaped from her lips as she stood from her seat, and slowly made her way down the row towards the Nara at the front of the classroom. She could feel everyone looking at her, and it wasn’t something she liked at all, it was actually more unnerving and uncomfortable than anything. Once she made her way to the chunin’s side, Kazui would place her hands into her pockets as Shikajin went on to explain what he was about to do. Normally a cut, such as the one he was going to give Kazui could be handled with cleaning and bandaging the wound, but for the sake of the demonstration, they were going to pretend that the size of the wound was on a larger scale and that it was much more life threatening than it is.

The class nodded their heads as they watched along. Kazui would pull her off hand from her pocket and raised it so that Shikajin could perform the incision on her right arm. She closed her eyes and looked off to the side, but the cut was indifferent, it didn’t hurt to bad, but it still stung a bit. The blood began to slowly make its way from the cut and down the side of the girl’s arm. Shikajin would now utilize a be of his medical techniques on her cut. The Mystical Palm technique, a name that would get an "ooooh” from the audience. The write down the name of the technique, and watched along as the chakra focused around the medic’s hand, emitting a greenish aura around them as he placed it over Kazui’s arm.

The first thing that Kazui noticed was that the pain of the cut seemed to go away, and the cut began to close faster than what she thought, and after a certain amount of time, everything was back to normal. Kazui would inspect her entire arm before showing the rest of the class what the technique was capable of performing.

"Awesome!”
"Cool!”

The class would say in unison. Kazui was impressed to say the least, but she didn’t go out of her way to make it evident. Instead the girl would just accept the cloth and wipe away the remaining blood. She wouldn’t leave quite yet, she would return to her seat only when Shikajin gave her the word.

"Does this work on like broken bones or internal wounds?”

One boy would ask, that would cause another girl in the class to agree with the question that was asked before she asked one of her own.

"Yeah..can it get rid of diseases too? Toxins?”

The girl would ask.

the worst case scenario is you
If nothing else it was clear that Kazui was a trooper. Shikajin wouldn't even begin to pretend like he knew the dynamics of this particular class of students but just from initial observations the young girl didn't seem like the gregarious type. It could have been because of the very recent changes in her life, or perhaps she had always been more reserved, but one thing was certain: she was a brave and tough soul. The medic was silently thankful that Kazui had been the one to volunteer as it would have been a bit more up in the air trying to guess the temperament of the other students when it came to getting nicked.

With the demonstration complete Shikajin would motion for the young Uchiha to return to her seat as a couple more questions poured in from the other students. Now that they had seen a wound be healed in mere seconds with their very eyes their curiosity was beginning to bloom. "Internal wounds, yes, but you would still have to know where exactly the injury is, otherwise you would just be wasting chakra and not helping the injured person. As for broken bones, there are a couple other techniques that are better suited for both setting and mending bone. If you failed to reset the bone in its proper place before healing the area there's a good chance the bones would set in the wrong position, causing more harm than good."

Another question would rain down, this time about illness. Great as the mystical palm jutsu was it wasn't a cure all, but thankfully hundreds of years of research had been able to develop techniques for just about anything. "Illnesses are tricky. Figuring out if what is making a person sick is a poison, virus, or bacteria determines how you can treat them, and how long you have before the situation gets work. There is a technique that allows for the removal of poisons and other foreign bodies but it's still important to do as much research beforehand so you don't put yourself or others at risk next." Shikajin would continue as he mulled over anything else he needed to add on the subject. Going into detail about the different types of toxins and their effects seemed a bit much for such a young group, so he'd end there and await any further questions.

The class’ attention remained undivided as they listened to Shikajin explain what the mystical palm could heal and couldn’t heal. It could indeed be used to heal internal injuries such as ruptures and torn muscles, as well as internal bleeding. It was necessary to know where the injury was however, and not going at it blindly. Although that was the case, it was deemed a better idea to not try to fix broken bones with the technique, that there were better ways of handling broken limbs and things of the such. As long as Kazui wasn’t going to have to have her arm broken for demonstration, then she was fine with the questions that were being asked.

However when it came to foreign bodies within the blood, things began to get foggy. Long story short, the mystical palm wasn’t capable of curing illnesses such as the common cold, or cancer. However their may have been some techniques that could. And as stated by the Nara himself, there was a technique that could rid of poison in someone’s body, but Mystical Palm wasn’t one of them. The class hmm’d and ahh’d, as they listened to the man explain. He did so in a manner that everyone could understand.

Kazui turned and faced the chunin, to see if she was further needed. If she could go back to her seat, then she would gladly go back. One hand shot up from the crowd, another boy had a question.

"Do you mind like, showing us like.. vulnerable areas where..we should attack if we’re looking to like render our opponent unconscious. Like pressure points, and where to aim if we want to do so lethally?”

The rest of the class would nod their heads in agreement, they too would like to know of vulnerable areas they should look to aim for.

the worst case scenario is you
He should have seen it coming but it was a surprise nevertheless. One moment the kids wanted to know how to heal people and now... they wanted to know what parts of the body to hit to deal the most damage. For a moment the medic was unsure if he should answer, he could have of course, with ease in fact, but the last thing Shikajin wanted to be was the catalyst for a bunch of academy students hurting themselves and each other trying to recreate the things he had shown them. Alas, even if the Nara refused the students would either find someone else to show them or figure it out on their own, curiosity was in their nature.

"Let's see... so it's important to remember that even if you know where these spots are not everyone is going to succumb to them with the same amount of pressure. People who specialize in taijutsu, for instance, will be less affected than say someone who doesn't train their body as much." Shikajin would begin, he wanted to make that perfectly clear so the kids wouldn't be surprised when their nerve pinch didn't bring someone to their knees. "Going from head to toe significant pressure to the back of the neck, a hard pinch to the muscle area above your shoulders, a firm blow to the solar plexus, between the ribs, and to the kidney areas are most effective in stunning an opponent." The Nara added while making sure to point out each area on his own body in conjunction with his words. These were places anyone could hit without having to know the body all too well.

"As for more lethal spots... obviously hitting major organs will do a lot of damage, but in most cases they will be protected by layers of muscle, bone and any armor your opponent may be wearing. So instead, going for arteries and veins will be your next best bet. The carotid artery, located on either side of the neck, is a major pathway for blood traveling to the upper body and if it gets cut a person can bleed out in a matter of minutes. To a lesser extent cutting the veins in the meeting point between the forearm and upper arm is a useful tactic, and finally there is the femoral artery near your pelvis that carries large amounts of blood through your lower body and getting a hit there will arguably do more damage than the carotid." Shikajin once again would make it a point to point to the areas he was speaking about, and while it may have seemed like hitting any of these spots would ensure victory there were any number of factors that had to be taken into account when fighting so he hoped the students wouldn't focus their efforts on trying to end battles by solely going for any of the spots he mentioned.

"It is important to remember that just as I am teaching you about what parts of the body can be dealt the most damage your opponents are learning the same things, so do not rely solely on attacks aimed there as it will be the first they will be expecting and most eager to protect." A fair --and as he believed-- necessary word of caution meant to keep things in perspective for the students. The Nara couldn't blame them for setting their sights on areas that would all but ensure victory, but it'd be foolish to think that enemies wouldn't have the same information about the human body that they did.

It seemed that the chunin was a bit hesitant to teach the kids something that could in turn be very dangerous, but he had to realize that they were the next generation of shinobi, the ones that would be retelling the very things he thought to them, to the students of the future. He had to trust them not as kids, but as shinobi. Shikajin decided he would teach them certain target areas. It was important for the class to know that while attacking certain areas could prove to be very effective, everybody reacted differently to certain amounts of force applied. A person with a stronger body would be harder to take down than someone who wasn’t as physically strong. It made sense and the class would nod their heads and take notes on the medic’s words.

As for pressure points, Shikajin would start from the head to toe, showing the points of emphasis in the back of the neck, shoulders, and the kidney areas. Landing a decent strike with force in those areas could essentially shut down a threat without any long lasting effects. The sound of pencils scribbling across paper filled the room as Shikajin moved on to the next part. Areas that could have high chances of fatality if attacked. These areas include the carotid artery located on either side of the neck, the veins where the forearm met with the bicep, and the femoral artery located in the pelvis, as well as all of the major organs such as the heart, brain, etc.

"Ah. Thank you, Shikajin-sensei.”

The class would say. He explained it well enough professionally, overall there was still much more to learn in terms of medical knowledge, but the kids were leaving today’s lesson with much more knowledge and wisdom than when they entered the academy earlier today. Although for most students, this was as far as they were going to pursue the art, but something about the knowledge made Kazui want to learn more, even though she had no intention of becoming a registered medic.

"All right class, that’s all we have for today’s lesson.”

The teacher would say as he looked at the clock on the wall.

"Shikajin-San, thank you for your time.”

The man would say as he reached out to shake the Nara’s hand. And with that, the class would begin to show gratitude towards the chunin as they made their way out the doors of the classroom. A bow here and there as they exited, the room was nearly empty, however Kazui was the last remaining, the same nonchalant look on her face as she approached Shikajin. She would take a deep breath before talking.

"Thank you, ...for everything.”

Kazui would say as she waved her hand dismissively. She wasn’t only thanking him for the seminar, but for caring for her grandmother as well.

As he continued to explain the vital areas of the body Shikajin figured if he was either getting too detailed or too graphic that one of the teachers would step in, but at no point did that happen which... was kind of surprising. While it was true that they were all training to be shinobi and that fighting and death was going to become a near integral part of their existence sooner rather than later it maybe would have been nice to try and preserve a bit of their innocence. Alas, since they were the ones asking about such areas of the body it was clear that they already had some knowledge of what their lives were going to be like.

With his demonstration complete the teacher would step in formally putting an end to the presentation resulting in a resounding 'thanks' from the class as they filtered out of the room... with only a single straggler: Kazui. Her expression made it difficult to figure out what exactly she was thanking and the Nara wasn't quite sure what was to come next. Would she be upset that the medic hadn't done more to save her grandmother? Anger was common when it came to the passing of loved ones, especially those hailing from the girls clan, but given the woman's age and condition the most anyone could have done was provide comfort and perhaps a bit more time.

However, there was no anger, but gratitude. A simple thank you for all that he had done. Even though he hadn't been able to give her grandmother a cure all for her ailments and greatly extended their time together Kazui was still grateful. The pain of losing a loved one was perhaps the worst feeling imaginable, one that Shikajin knew all too well, and to still be able to show gratitude was an admirable quality that the girl had shown. "You're welcome. If... you need anything, you know where to find me." He'd kill himself for those words later, but just as Inoyami had been there for him all those years ago the Nara would at least offer to help another going through a similar situation.
