Konsho sat in his room, laying in his bed. The last few years had been spent doing nothing but studying. He rarely, if ever, left his room, always studying into the night and waking up far past when it was acceptable. Yet nothing ever happened. He never improved, he never got better at anything. All of that time studying ninjutsu, he still couldn't preform even transformation jutsu, let alone the ability to summon a clone. Nothing worked. Nothing improved. He was just... stuck there. Stuck as an academy student. Stuck as a shinobi. While he was adjusting to the human world, he still didn't see much of a reason to stay. Sure their amount of knowledge on chakra and shinobi arts made the Ape's look minuscule, but the fact of the matter was, he was in a strange land that made him feel tiny and helpless. He hadn't made any progress in his efforts to become an actual ninja. He was still a student.

As he lay on his back, looking up at the ceiling, an open book was next to him. The same book Chizawa Midori had given to him when he was sick in Kumogakure. He had been reading about genjutsu again. This time about triggers and how to cause them. It was interesting, the ways one could move their chakra through certain things. Some experts of genjutsu could point their finger, and their chakra would follow the light bouncing off of their skin to the target's eyes. It amazed him just what they could do. But genjutsu wasn't going to help him, as much as he researched it. Maybe he should get out and do something. He had been in there for lord knows how long.

The days had been going by painfully slow. Since her child moved out of her home, albeit only for a trial run to see if he could support himself, she often found herself alone, with not many to talk to. It wasn’t like Konsho talked much anyway, but his presence was enough to keep the sage quiet, for he was indeed her child. The time that she spent alone, she often found herself thinking about the kid. Was he okay? Did he need anything? As badly as she wanted to check on him, she promised the boy that she would bud out of his life almost completely for a moment, to see if he could handle living in his own place, which meant no help from her. It was hard to do, but she only hoped that he missed her just as much as she did him.

Today was one of the days she would rarely check on him, to see if he was still alive and well in his own place. The woman made her way through the village with relative quickness, happiness in her heart as she quickly made her way to the small house, she couldn’t even dream of calling it a home. As she approached the door, she would bring her hand closer to knock, but hesitated to do so. Would he feel as if the woman didn’t trust him? Or would he be happy to see her? The thoughts raced through her head as lightly tapped on the door three times, a sigh escaped to clear her mind.

"Konsho. It’s me, Midori.”

She would say out, her gentle voice was powerful enough to carry throughout the building without much of an effort. And then she waited. Midori wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t answer, that was if he was there of course.

Konsho finally found the energy to get out of his bed, if only to make his stomach shut up. He moved his way to a pantry full of old snacks and quickly made meals. He didn't want to cook until he made some progress. Taking a box of wheat snacks from the tallest shelf, he went back towards the desk he labored over. As he placed the box down he heard a sigh from his door. Only one person visited him, Midori, his sensei. Staring as heard three knocks, he heard her speak softly. At first he didn't move. Why did she sigh? Had he messed up? Disappointed her? It would make sense, given his complete lack of progress.

Konsho opened the door to his 'house' if one could call it that. To an outside observer everything was normal, for Konsho at least. The area he lived in was piled high with books and scrolls. Some books still lay open, and many of the scrolls were strewn about, a classic sign that Konsho had a study binge the night before. Physical Konsho looked as he usually did after so much time studying. The tell tale bags were a sign of Konsho staying awake far longer than any child should. His pupils where still dialated, and Konsho had his squinting 'oh right the sun is bright' face. But if one knew Konsho even an eighth as well as Midori did, it was clear he wasn't doing well.

Konsho's method of organization was best described as 'allocated chaos'. Yes it was always messy and neatness was far from Konsho's mind, but everything had an area it was to stay in. Info on specific techniques sat to the left, and basic information on shinobi styles and history was on the right. Legends and myths were always in the middle. Snacks and drinks were within arms reach of his desk, and trash, while piled high, never left the can. But the box he had just moved from the pantry was sitting on an empty one. His bottles for water were strewn about chaotically, and it looked as of Konsho hadn't bothered to move anything from where it happened to land. Perhaps the most jarring however, was Konsho wearing only his pants and shirt. There was no coat weighed down by books, and less noticable but still jarring was the lack of his goggles. He always had them on to help with late night reading, and even had them on just in case. Yet not only where they both gone, but neither where anywhere to be seen.

"Good morning Midori-Sensei." It was past noon.

”Eh..Good morning, Konsho.”

The woman would say gently as her gaze quickly shifted from the boy in front of her, to the room behind him. The first thing that struck the woman was the pile of books and scrolls, possibly he was doing a ton of reading trying to cram as much information as he could into his brain. Unfortunately that wasn’t the most efficient way of learning anything. Her attention however was then shifted to Konsho himself. He was squinting as the bright light from the sun being at its highest scolded his vision, which was probably a tell tale sign that he had been hoarding himself off from the outside world.

Quickly a hand rose and gently rested on Konsho’s face as the woman inspected his features even closer. She could tell that he had stayed up late the night prior, she could still see the tiredness in his eyes. As she looked closer she noticed that something else was missing.

"Where are your goggles? And your coat?”

The woman would ask as she stepped further into the house, noticing that everything seemed as if it were in array. Nothing seemed to have to have a true home, it was stored wherever it was last placed. The woman took a deep breath as she rolled up her sleeve and proceeded to tidy things up a bit more. She wouldn’t nag at him or ask him if he’s okay, because she knew for a fact that he wasn’t. However she didn’t want to discourage the boy, so she would give him the chance to tell her everything he wants her to know.

"So, Konsho. How do you like living on your own?”

She would ask genuinely, but in her voice a hint could be found that she herself was not so fond of the situation.

Konsho watched as Midori inspected him with an internal terror only a child could have. He was caught, there was no way around it. There was no say a normal jonin wouldn't have noticed, let alone Midori. Yet she... didn't confront him on it. "They....broke. Both of them. I didn't want to fix them."

That was something Konsho never understood. Every person who didn't approve of him either treated him with disdain or were adamant that he shape up to be more like the sage apprentice he needed to be. But Midori was not like... well any ninja he knew. She was laid back, truly had no care for labels, and well... seemed to be hell bent on doing things outside of the way it was suposed to be done. Of course, Konsho seemed to go only by the way he was told, a habit he had earned from the shinobi academy rather than home. Yet Midori didn't want him to act like a sage. She wanted him to be Konsho... and he wasn't sure how he felt about that yet.

As Midori began cleaning cleaning Konsho's house, he couldn't help be feel... weird about it. "I-I can handle it." He objected, before Midori asked the question of how he was enjoying living on his own. There was something about the way she said it that made him feel a whole new kind of disappointment in himself. He found himself at a loss for words, a kind if feeling he hadn't felt since he lived with his father and brother. It was one he didn't like feeling again. "It's...ok..."

The news about the jacket and the goggles breaking didn’t cause much of a reaction from the woman, at least not visibly. Deep down she would sigh to herself, as she thought about how they could’ve broken. That was beside the point however, she wouldn’t worry about them for much longer, they could easily be replaced, that’s if he actually wanted a new pair. Midori went to helping tidy up and organize the place a bit better, but before she could do so, Konsho would cut her off.

He could do it himself. The sage laughed nervously as she scratched her head and let Konsho handle everything he wanted to handle.

"Heh. I’m sorry.”

She would start, watching over her child as he managed his own stuff.

"I guess I’m so used to..you know..helping out.”

The lady would say softly as her eyes shifted around the small loft. It wasn’t much, and honestly Midori couldn’t figure out why he insisted on being on his own. Was it just him being a teenager and wanting to be independent? Or was it because he hated Midori’s presence? The woman couldn’t quite tell, it always seemed like a mixture of both, yet at the same time the opposite. Was she too bossy? too strict? No that couldn’t be it. Maybe she was just in the way. Konsho’s answer was bland at best, as it always was but it provided everything that needed to be known to the sage. The woman felt as if he were holding something back, his true feelings perhaps? But she didn’t know much about Konsho to truly make that assumption.

Silence filled the room for a moment as Midori thought over what she wanted to say and watched as the boy organized his stuff. She wanted to ask him to move back in with her, to give all of this up. She wanted to ask what was he trying to prove, but she wouldn’t go that far. Instead the woman would turn and face the window, looking at how beautiful nature was.

"We should go outside you know. Enjoy the elements and what not...It’s a beautiful day.”

Midori would suggest to her student/child, without turning away from the window.

Konsho was practically darting around the room, quickly gathering tons of trash form the area. As per usual the piles of open books and scrolls stayed, but everything in the room was suddenly being quickly grabbed and shoved into a bag. Boxes of various cracker boxes and some bitter food containers were spread through the room. Soon after he began grabbing rice cracker wrappers from his bed, and then moved onto removing used milk cartons from... well every inch of the place. Just half way through and he had already filled three bags.

Then came the mountain of instant ramen cups that was stuffed in a corner of his 'home', which in total was barely the size of an apartment. That was Konsho's go to 'I don't want to cook' meal. Maybe after this he would stop cleaning. Then he heard Midori. 'I guess I’m so used to..you know..helping out.' Konsho cringed visibly when she said that. Maybe that was his issue. Midori was nice, hell she was one of the sweetest people he knew. That HAD to be the problem, he had a safety net. "Please... try not to do that..." Konsho quickly stated, unaware of what that could be easily misconstrued as. However unlike earlier, it didn't seem to have his held back tone. It was the one he had when he had an idea, or whenever he was truly excited, which was usually only when engrossed in a book. As he piled the various cups and wrappers into a second bag, Konsho quickly pushed them into a corner. He felt... weird. Good weird. His place actually looked decent, by Konsho standards. However he did notice there was a large amount of dust. Quickly grabbing a pan and broom, Konsho began moving like a mad man, quickly dashing through the room as fast as he could.

In a matter of five minutes, the entire house was suddenly clean, and Konsho felt... well good. He had actually done something. "Maybe if this doesn't work I can be a butler." Konsho whispered to himself as a bit of morbid humor. As he turned to Midori, he could see that outside was beautiful, if too bright for his liking as a nightowl and book worm. But considering the great sage had been kind enough to let him find himself... well he had nothing to loose. Besides he felt great, for some reason. A walk sounded great. "That sounds...nice."

Light brown eyes followed the young boy as he zipped around the room, picking up trash left and right with efficiency. Boxes of crackers, water bottles, plastic wrappers, and cups of instant ramen were all picked from the floor, bed, and things alike. It was quickly beginning to look like a home worth living in and worth being the owner of. Konsho had gone about three plastic bags, yet he wasn’t even halfway finished with the room. Midori smiled for a quick moment as she watched on, but that smile quickly faded as Konsho spoke the words that he did.

Silence fell heavily upon the room, the only sound that could be heard was the sound of the plastic bags and trash crumbling as they were being picked up and placed where they needed to go. The woman didn’t know how to react to what she heard. Lips pursed to the side as she sighed internally. She would physically shrug and write it off as nothing, but deep down inside the words cut deeper than any blade could. It was like a stab to the woman’s heart. Did he not enjoy her presence? It was beginning to look and feel more and more like that was the case as time went on. Underneath her breath, the sage spoke as she slowly turned away from the boy and towards the window.

"Oh..kay”

The woman would say in a soft whisper as she then began to look at the nature outside. A beautiful scene to behold as the sun beamed light over the entire village. She remained facing the window for the majority of the time while Konshō tidied up the place. Her feelings wouldn’t allow her to do much else other than that, out of fear of further aggravating her child. Was she not a good guardian? The woman often found herself doubting her qualities, even if they were far from being bad.

Midori would push it all behind her however. Having gotten the idea to enjoy the day with Konsho, perhaps they could sharpen up on their shinobi work or just take a walk. Anything to get him out of the house. So she suggested that they go enjoy the weather whenever he was finished cleaning, and although she suggested it, Konsho didn’t have much of a choice regardless. The woman wasn’t going to allow him to continue to section himself off from the outside world, regardless of how much he hated it. But luckily enough, he thought it was an alright idea.

"Okay, good.”

Midori would say softly as she waited for him to finish, and when he did she would exit the small room and wait for Konsho to come out. From there, the two would begin to walk the village.

Konsho would follow quietly behind Midori, oblivious to the trouble he had caused. Thankfully at noon most people were busy and the streets were empty save a few people also taking advantage of this time. Konsho's gaze was darting around constantly, seeing that nature was active, something he found relaxing. Various smaller animals moved in trees, or scurried across the street as fast as their little legs would allow. Shadows of birds of prey would provide small breaks from the sun's glare, something Konsho always preferred in small doses. The canopy always kept a large amount of sunlight out, at least in comparison to the village. He preferred much of the forest to Iwagakure. It was softer, and its noises much less subtle than the ones heard in Iwagakure. Everything was so much more free form there, growing as it wished. In Iwagakure though, every thing was built. Put to the grindstone until it was smooth. Bricks placed exactly where they needed to be. Everything acted as it was supposed to and was made to act that way. To someone like Konsho... it was like wearing a straight jacket.

There were... some improvements he had to admit as he looked around. One was the sound of rain. Rain wasn't something that was relaxing for Konsho in this home, those nights were spent in preperation and then keeping inside waiting for the storm to pass. Yet in Iwagakure there was something soothing about the pattering of rain on a roof type. The benches were nice too. Nothing could compare to sitting on a branch, feeling a living being support your weight. But there was something strangely admirable in sitting on an object that could hold the human body so well. The world he was in now was not one he liked, and one that felt restrictive. But at least there were some benefits.

Midori took in the nature as she walked closely alongside Konsho. The smell of rain was in the air, which made the air a tad bit humid, but nothing that was too overwhelming. The sun’s rays provide a nice warmth, and the many animals scurried from branch to branch to tree to tree. Having been working with nature for the past decade or so, Midori often found herself taking it for granted, or not enjoying the small things that often came with being a sage. Those small things often slipped her mind, and the reason was because it was her work nonetheless and many would trade places with her any day for the freedom that came with the occupation, but many didn’t understand that it was far more difficult and stressful than they expected.

Light brown eyes shifted and looked around, and the woman would take in a deep breath, taking in all that nature had to offer.

"It’s beautiful isn’t it. It’s nothing compared to other places, but it has its qualities.”

Midori would say as she turned to face Konsho. Soon enough he would understand what being a sage was actually like, but for right now they would take it slow and work their way up to that point. Konsho would be the one to replace her, if something ever happened to her or if she ever retired. She hoped the boy was prepared.

Konsho kept glancing around the area. Looking at the sky, that was one other thing Iwagakure had over the Ishibiki Forest. If he wanted to watch the sky, he'd have to spend a good amount of time climbing through various trees to reach the top of the canopy. While he did miss that activity, there was something nice about just being able to look up and see clouds or stars. There also was a significantly smaller chance of him getting randomly attacked by animals that happened to be hungry. He had relied on his father for protection during those events. Seems he always relied on people. He couldn't think of a battle he fought for himself. But that was beside the point.

"It's nice." Konsho replied in a soft tone. His eyes were looking around as birds began chirping. He had heard them constantly through out his life in the Ishibiki Forest. But now it carried a new sense of purpose behind it. Now that he knew what music was, their chirping seemed to carry more if a tune. He couldn't help but wonder if that had a term.

Konsho’s answer warranted a smile from the woman. His words were reassuring to the woman that the connection between him and nature was still there, somewhere deep inside of him. It would come in handy and make his sage training much more easier since that was the case. If he had been disconnected from nature then, becoming intune with it later would be the most difficult thing he would do, that is if he were anything like Midori. The woman was actually pretty intune with nature before she even started training with natural energy, and it still took her 11 years to master. Hopefully it could be easier for Konsho instead.

Light brown eyes looked around for a moment as the two of them continued to move forward walking through the village, as the song of nature played in the background. Drops of rain tapping on stone, animals speaking to one another, it was therapeutic to the woman, but as she walked the more she thought about Konsho. How long had she had him? It’s been awhile that’s for sure. The woman’s pace slowed down as she turned to face the boy.

"Hmm. When was the last time you’ve been to the forest?”

The woman would ask softly. She herself didn’t normally frequent that location unless they needed her, so she herself hasn’t been there in a while, and she had to admit she kind of missed it. It was much more beautiful than looking at stone all day, that was for sure.

Konsho's eyes began looking towards the ground, as they always did. It was the best way to seem humble. Whenever he started to do otherwise, he'd pull himself back into it. Konsho had forced this idea of being the representative of the apes. While Midori was his superior in every sense of the word, she lived in the village. This 'shinobi world' was her home, and she joined the contract later. Konsho's earliest memory was being found by his brother. He had spent half of his life with the apes. He was the only one who met the requirements as far as Konsho was concerned. So he had to be the best at all times. Respectful, well educated, dutiful, and most importantly: humble. So his eyes fell.

But as they did Konsho's eyes were caught by something he had never seen before, and something t made no sense to the child's brain. It was raining... but the sun was out. He distinctly remembered wincing when he opened the door, he could see and hear rain. If he focussed he could even smell it. There was something amazing about watching the rain drops fall. The patches of dark clouds seemed to accent the light from the site, making the rays seem to glow. And within that light were the raindrops, shimmering through. They made the light seem to vibrate and move in a whole new way. It was mesmerizing.

However Konsho's attention was grabbed by Midori 's question. He began reflecting on his time here. He had been taken by Midori to be her apprentice and near instantly was put into the academy at 9 years old, so it had been about- "Five years." Konsho answered slowly. Had it really been that long. Five years and he still hadn't managed to graduate. A tiny hollow half laugh escaped Konsho's mouth. That butler position was slowly looking more and more promising.

"Hmm five years?”

Midori would say as she continued to walk alongside Konsho. The mixture between the drops of rain and the sun painted a perfect watercolor sky. The clouds provided a bit of protection from the heat, but with the moisture in the air, the humidity began to rise, but even then still it was beautiful and calming.

"It’s been that long already? Hm. Well perhaps whenever you graduate, we can return to Ishibiki.”

Midori would say as if it were a gift, she knew that Konsho would enjoy going back, but the thing was it would be less than a gift and more so about his sage training. She was excited for him, but she knew that it would require completely isolating himself from the life he had in Iwagakure, which kind of defeated everything she was working so hard to establish now. There was always the possibility that once he finished his training, he wouldn’t want to leave, and as much as she disliked the thought, by that time it would be his choice to make and not hers.

"but as of now, I guess the beauty that Iwagakure possesses will have to suffice.”

The woman would add on as she continued to walk. Her mind continued to wander as she passed stone after stone, and she began to realize that maybe waiting until he graduated wasn't the right thing, maybe he needed a bit of motivation. And since he was not only her student, but her child as well, she would allow him to go back to the jungles of Ishibiki.

"You know what, maybe we can take a trip now? That’s if you have nothing else planned, and wouldn’t mind spending a bit of time with me for once.”

Midori would say jokingly, however the choice was his.

Konsho couldn't believe what he was hearing. Going back? That sounded like a relief from... well every issue he had. No need to suppress any thoughts that could be seen as rude, no need to be prim and proper, no 'representing the contract'. Best of all no forced awkward interactions. Although he'd still have to study. Probably go on missions. He'd definitely still need to show up when Midori did need him. So... perhaps not all of his problems, but the social ones would be removed. A smile grew on Konsho's face, it was a weak one but it was beaming with a level of appreciation he couldn't ever forget. It was the smile a father made when he got home after a long day of work and his child held him. He was tired, unable to muster a large ear to ear grin, but it's source was from the deepest emotions he could must. "That sounds great." Konsho said with a tone of peace. Today had started off so bad, but now it was seeming... well perfect. Konsho knew it wouldn't last one, something would mess it up, and that it would be a while until he went back to his home. He still had a few studies to finish, but once he did he'd be more than willing to leave Iwagakure. "I still have a few things to do, but once I'm done I'd love to go." Konsho didn't even react to the off handed teasing that would have made him sputter back into his spiraling shell. He was too happy now.
