Universal Bukijutsu Style for Kusarigama
Hebitekina - Striking Serpent StyleThe Hebitekina – Striking Serpent Style is a universal bukijutsu style for kusarigama wielders. While it is one of the most employed kusarigama styles due to its effectiveness, it is relatively rare to see practicioners of the Striking Serpent Style purely because the kusarigama is seen far less than the more popular sword. The Striking Serpent Style is a highly diverse style that uses the natural advantages of all aspects of the kusarigama to the user´s advantage. It focuses on using the weighted end of the kusarigama in order to defend, attack and pressure the opponent by combining spinning movements with quick jabs and strikes that can either injure opponents or entangle their limbs. It essentially functions like a whip or a flail. The kama in the meantime is used both in the traditonal way by finishing off opponents who have been entangled as well as to perform surprise slashes. In the case of the latter, the chain is often used to manipulate the trajectory of those slashes. This combination of defense, offense and pressure as well as its unpredictable nature make this an excellent all-purpose school for those who wish to master the kusarigama. Techniques Name: Hebitekina Migamea – Striking Serpent Stance Rank: D Chakra Usage: Very low Classification Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: N/A Description: The style´s bread and butter. The user places one foot before the other, turning their body slightly to one side to make themselves a more narrow target. The kama of their kusarigama is held in the hand that is turned away from the opponent, the weighted end in the other hand. The weighted end is spun around, keeping it in constant motion. This has two functions: the constantly spinning weighted end forms a barrier against incoming projectiles and physical attacks while also dissuading attackers from closing in. Secondly, the constant momentum of the swing will increase the force behind strikes from the weighted end. The more skilled a user is, the more smoothly they will be able to transition the constant swinging motion into strikes or attempts to entangle the opponent. Another factor that depends on the user´s skill is the lenght of chain used; more chain equals greater reach but also decreases the speed of the swing and makes it more difficult to control. The more skilled a user is, the longer they can make their swing without compromising much speed. The lenght of the swing is also dependant on the user's own size, as they won''t be able to swing a chain longer than themselves without having to angle it. Name: Kusari Senpuu – Chain Whirlwind Rank: D Chakra Usage: Very Low Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: N/A Description: The user performs a quick 360 degrees full-body swing, like a twirl with the weighted end dragging in its trajectory. While performing this swing, the weighted end of the kusarigama is encorporated into the momentum of the swing by holding the chain a few feet away from it. This technique can be used to swat away incoming projectiles or attack enemies coming in from the user's blind spot. Alternatively, the user can run the weighted end across the ground to stir up sand, dirt or dust, resulting in a quick dust cloud that can be used to conceal the user´s movements. Name: Joushou Kiba – Rising Fang Rank: C Chakra Usage: Very Low Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: N/A Description: The user throws their kama towards the user in an underhand throw, sharp end pointing upward. The user then pulls the chain back in an upward motion, causing the kama to rise up into a vertical slash before returning to the user´s hand. If the user manages to hook their kama behind an opponent´s weapon, this technique can be used to disarm said opponent by pulling their weapon straight out their hands. Doing this requires the user's strenght to be greater than that of the opponent. Name: Wangetsugakure – Hidden Crescent Rank: C Chakra Usage: Low Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: N/A Requires: Striking Serpent Stance Description: A kusarigama technique that benefits from Striking Serpent Stance, using the spinning motion of the weighted end to draw the opponent´s attention. Meanwhile, the user prepares a strike with the kama. If Striking Serpent Stance is used properly, one side of the user will be tilted so that it faces away from the opponent. The kama should be held in the hand at this side of the user. The user releases their grip on the kama and lets the chain run across their fingers, grabbing it before the kama touches the ground, increasing the lenght of the strike. The user then suddenly shifts their body around, turning their kama-wielding side towards the opponent and using this momentum to swing the kama in a sideways arc towards the opponent´s body. If executed properly, the user´s body hides the preperations being made for the swing, catching the opponent by surprise. Name: Sanshin – Strike Out Rank: C Chakra Usage: Very Low Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: N/A Description: The user counters incoming kunai or shuriken by hitting them right back at the opponent with the weighted end of their kusarigama. One use of this technique allows for a maximum of five simultanious ¨returns¨. A skilled user with appropriate sense of timing and physics can perform this technique through the spinning motion of Striking Serpent Stance. Name: Nagareboshi – Shooting Star Rank: B Chakra Usage: Low Classification: Bukijutsu Element: N/A Description: A kusarigama technique that seems simple on the surface but is complex to perform in tandem with other movements. The essense of this technique is using the kama to knock the weighted end towards the opponent. Depending on the amount of kinetic force the user can put behind the blow with the kama, the weighted end can shoot forward with enough speed that it appears as a mild blur and a direct hit from this technique packs enough of a punch to smash an opponent through a concrete wall. If an opponent takes a direct hit from this technique, without the aid of defensive techniques or armour, the bones of the affected body parts will be shattered. Name: Shinrin Bassai Dantou – Deforestation Decapitation Rank: B Chakra Usage: Medium Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: Raiton – Lightning Release Requires: Striking Serpent Stance Description: The user combines the built-up momentum of their constant swinging with lightning chakra channeled through their kusarigama to perform a highly destructive swing with their weighted end. The user channels chakra into their kusarigama and transitions their spinning weighted end into a single horizontal swing, letting the chain run through the fingers and grabbing it at the right moment to decide the lenght of the swing. The cutting properties of lightning chakra allow the chain to slice through solid trees, basic defenses and opponents. Name: Iaido Gyakuten – Iaido Reversal Rank: A Chakra Usage: High Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: N/A Description: A kusarigama technique specifically designed to counter moves such as Iaido and the Multiplying Thrust, the Iaido Reversal represent´s the users ability to catch said sword with their chain and entangle it well within the span of a second. This is done by holding a lenght of the chain between two hands and blocking the incoming blade with the center of this chain. The force of the sword will then work against it as it will pull the center along with its trajectory, allowing the user to pull both hands in the opposite direction of the trajectory and quickly cross them to tie the chain around the sword. The user then uses their kama to decapitate the opponent. The difficulty and power of this technique comes from it´s speed; a skilled user of this technique can perform it so fast, their hand movements appear like a blur, allowing them to catch a Multiplying Thrust slash from a user of equal skill. This technique requires great skill and dexterity to pull off, as well as the ability to correctly estimate the opponent´s skill. If attempted on a swordsman of superior skill and speed, the user will be unable to catch the technique in time resulting in them recieving the full brunt of the attack. Name: Raimei – Thundercrack Rank: A Chakra Usage: High Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: Raiton – Lightning Release Description: A technique that requires a kusarigama with chakra-conductive qualities. An amount of strongly concentrated lightning chakra is gathered at the very tip of the weighted end of the weapon. This static charge can be discharged manually. This will cause a shockwave of electricity to emerge from the weighted end with a reach of about five meters. The shockwave is strong enough to knock away foreign objects, and anyone caught within the shockwave will be shocked for second-degree burns and numbness at the area´s of the body that the shockwave contacts first. Name: Haniyasu-hiko no Hajikeru - Earth God's Flail Rank: A Chakra Usage: High Classification: Bukijutsu (Kusarigama) Element: Doton – Earth Release Description: A technique that requires a kusarigama with chakra-conductive qualities. An amount of strongly concentrated earth release chakra is gathered at the very tip of the weighted end of the weapon. The release of the chakra is triggered by the weight making contact with a foreign body through the strike, causing the kinetic force of the strike to be multiplied by a hundred. In practice, the strike becomes powerful enough to shatter a concrete building or, if it makes contact with a human being, cause them to burst apart spraying the direct environment with gore.
