It's causing a disruption in commerce and it cannot stand. A team has been assigned to take on the ring leader and scatter the pirates to cease the harassment and restore trade. Hakurei leaned back against the halyard as the sails of the merchant vessel they had the privilege of "borrowing” from port caught the wind. Commandeered was a more appropriate term for what was actually happening. Any captain would embrace shinobi escorts on the high seas these days but asking someone to offer their ship as bait was obviously cause for concern. Still, it had to be done and Hakurei had a great respect for sailors and their ships. His own father was a fisherman and he’d spent much of his childhood out on the water. He’d bring the vessel home in one piece if he could. [break][break] His fur-lined brown overcoat billowed around his knees and his amber eyes focused on dark clouds on the horizon. It was the same type the other deckhands wore except that his was left to hang open as the Yuki Clansman was unperturbed by the frigid sea air or the icy spray that came up from the bow of the ship. There were quite a few crates and barrels on the deck of the ship, a sure sign to any passing vessels that cargo must be stacked high in the hold.

The air was frigid. The currents even more so -both air and sea. Chunks of ice scraped against the sides of the ship, the sound often linked to a harrowing, ghostly sigh. To those who called Yuki no kuni home? A much more welcome sound. A warning that falling in was a bad idea and it meant land was not that far away. It could be miles, yes, but it was better than being in the middle of the sea. [break][break]
Kyoya was in the air. Frost dusting his feathers, but the Tsuruza was bundled up in a thermal suit, neck scarf, gloves and his weapons were attached to his thighs, pouch and other places. His keen eyes would be able to see far and wide, the clouds were there, but they could be much worse and obscure the skies much more. He would see nothing so far, but it was good to have a good overview.[break][break]
After having glided on the current for a short bit and creating a proper mental image of the waters and nearby ships. He would land on the ship, hazel green eyes seeking out his teammates shaking out his feathers, frost peeling off in small clouds of white, before he walked over to the Yuki. [break][break]
"Nothing out of the ordinary up there, so far.”[break][break]
Pirates were no joke, they hit port cities and they hit hard. They never stayed long so it was only the shinobi on duty in the city would be able to respond and their numbers were likely too small to adequately protect all parts of the city. Pirates endangered merchant ships as well. It made it hard to get import wares then. It could potentially damage the entire nation. Sure, it was not impossible to survive off of the land, the Imagawa clan had done it since before a shinobi village was even there.

Reiji Nue

Reiji was glad there were two other shinobi taking care of the whole fighting stuff in this mission. Not that he couldn't beat a couple sea thugs, but he didn't really like fighting. He was just there to do the healing for the people that do the fighting, as he was expected to do both as a Nue and as a medic.

For now, he hadn't spoken too much with the other two, preferring the warmer insides of the boat. He was there doing his own thing, mostly preparing for the eventual conflict. They were out there as bait so it was safe to assume they were going to be attacked sooner or later.

That did not mean he couldn't at least relax and work on his own stuff in the meantime. He certainly wasn't going to try and entertain a conversation with the others. Medic or not, he was always misunderstood just like the rest of his clan. People liked when they were there stitching their ass back up but oooh boy their weird merging jutsu are bad and yadda yadda. They never realized how nice of a blessing it was having a nue do all the stuff they did.

Either way there he was under cover and assorted in his files. This was just a mission. Once this was done, he had to get back to his usual routine. Though he could appreciate the free time going to sea brought him.

Yuki Hakurei Tsuruza Kyoya Reiji Nue

A chilling wind swept over those waiting on the merchant boat, chilling them to the bone if they weren’t sufficiently covered. Weather in Yuki No Kuni was always cold, and on the waters it was no different. It was actually worse due to having no cover out on the sea and having the biting wind nipping at those traveling the turbulent waters. So far all the group had to deal with was the wind, but judging from the storm clouds, it wouldn’t be too long before they had something else to worry about.

Icebergs of various sizes would jut out of the ocean, causing travel on the waters to require a skilled captain. If there were only small icebergs, that would be fine. But the real problems were the large ones which blocked the view of wary merchants. It was in places like those where ships hoisting certain flags would emerge and ransack any ship unlucky enough to cross their paths. Or so the rumors went. Still the ship was approaching such an area, so it would be better to be on their guard.

The approaching icebergs in the distance were large enough that Kyoya would have to fly a little ways to see over them, if he was willing to brace the weather. The wind was getting worse, and it would be quite the annoyance for one such as him. The cold weather couldn’t possibly feel good on his feathers. But so far nothing on note would happen as the trio’s ship would begin its journey past the large icebergs. A storm was brewing and only time would tell if the group was prepared to weather it.

Hakurei nodded at Kyoya’s report; no suspicious activity yet. [break][break] "Will you head below decks and check on Reiji?” He called out over the howling of the wind and the growling of the hull as it scraped against smaller chunks of ice that had broken away from the larger masses as he tied off the line. There was just a hint of hesitation after making the request of his superior but as a sailor he felt his place was on the deck of the ship. [break][break] "The clouds are hanging low and grey on the horizon. We need to be prepared for anything.” Hakurei was worried about navigating the ice fields in the coming storm but they were also approaching an archipelago of large icy peaks that created several blind spots large enough to set an ambush. He wanted to make it to the other side before dropping the sails. [break][break] They could send Kyoya ahead to scout and try to ride it out here but if he were to spring the trap here they would find themselves at a disadvantage.

Regardless of rank, this was Hakurei's mission and Kyoya would go where he was sent. Time and years of experience had taught him that putting his trust in his teammates was important especially the team lead. So far the Yuki had done nothing to earn the Tsuruza's mistrust and so, if the man asked him to dive head first into enemy fire, he'd do it. He'd make darn sure he had as much protection from his own skills as possible, but he'd follow through. 

So when the man asked him to check on their third member who had holed up in the hull of the ship, he nodded and went on his way. As he walked he would weave the signs required for his wings to sink into his back and leave him with two very human looking arms. It was easier to get around like this - less chance of his feathers getting caught in a door or similar. 

A polite knock would announce his arrival, he would grant the Nue a moment to register it, then he opened the door and poked his head in. This wasn't his own kid after all, he was not going to stand around and wait for permission. 

"How are you doing down here?"

He would not advance and peer at the other's work, instead he remained in the door frame, opting to lean against it with his arms crossed over his chest. It helped steady him and keep his center of gravity when the boat swayed. 

"We are heading towards a collection of icebergs, we might need you on deck soon."

Reiji Nue

The young nue was absorbed into his work that he barely registered the knocks at his cabin door. He turned around and stared at the thing for a few moments. He was unsure if he needed to get up and go check if someone indeed had knocked on his door.

Thankfully, the guy behind the noise took the initiative to open up the door and reveal himself on his own. It was the other shinobi that had been assigned to the mission, but the young boi had never really met him before.

"I...I'm fine, t-thank you." The nue would reply, bowing from his position. "N-nice to meet you too." He would quickly add, hoping to avoid giving a rude first impression.

The other guy also informed him that they were coming up on icebergs. Which meant they were about ready to go. Good to know. "R-right! I'll be up soon. I'll just need to finish up a thing here. In the meantime, have you two decided who's uhm...well...getting my help duting the fight?" He would ask, scrambling to gather all his own stuff tidied up on his desk.

Yuki Hakurei Tsuruza Kyoya Reiji Nue

As the ship progressed through the waters, a large ship with crimson flags would emerge from behind one of the larger icebergs, blocking off the pathway forward. The new arrival was still far enough away that it would take a few minutes to reach the other boat, but it was close enough to stop the ship the trio was on from turning around and escaping. And judging from the skill it took to have such a situation occur, it was obvious these pirates were experienced. They must be the ones harassing the traders and robbing them of their precious goods. 

Slicing through the water like an angry beast, the crimson flagged ship approached quickly as rain began to slowly fall from the sky. Almost as if heralding the arrival of the vicious pirates. With two of the crew below the ship, only Hakurei would notice the ship approaching from a distance. If he chose to look towards the deck of the pirate ship, he would notice several blurry figures facing forwards. It was obvious that they were outnumbered, but by how much was still a mystery due to the distance between them.

The once peaceful ocean would slowly start to turn choppy as the weather began to worsen, creating a foreboding atmosphere. Such a thing would fill the merchants with fear if they were the ones manning the boat. Fortunately trained ninja had taken their stead, and with hardened hearts they would be able to face the approaching threat with no fear. Only time would tell if it would be enough.

The jonin stomped his foot on the deck and shouted below, "Uh... It’s happening.” [break][break] He trusted the captain would do his best to avoid a collision and instead focused on the enemy vessel. He figured it would be better for the ninja to board the pirate ship rather than waiting for it to be the other way around. [break][break] As the crimson-sailed ship moved to block their path, Hakurei’s fingers got to work forming a quick burst of hand configurations. The moisture in the air just above the bowsprit consolidated into a rectangular mirror of thin ice which Hakurei then sprinted through almost like an open door. [break][break] There was a split second of mental hesitation as his form seemed to merge with his reflection and he thought of his daughter. Who would take care of her if- [break][break] He was jettisoned forward at a speed that would make him nearly imperceivable. He would seem to appear again, sliding low across the ice a couple meters from the hull of the pirate ship, still moving with incredible speed and grace for a man of his age. [break][break] Hakurei felt an invigorating surge of chakra in the muscles of his arm before balling his fingers into a fist. He delivered a powerful blow to the hull of the ship and if the punch did as much as he hoped, it would send wood splintering into the hollow of the ship as if it had been hit by a cannon blast. He felt he had impacted close enough to the waterline that the vessel might start taking on water. SPOILER: Click to show SA: Yuki Clan Hakurei began training to combine water and wind into ice from a young age. It's not his primary specialization but it's an unfortunate surprise for anyone who thinks they only need to worry about his fists. [break][break] SA: Strength Hakurei is very strong. Hakurei did not skip out on protein in his youth, and he does one hundred push ups every day. His body is packed with lean muscle. His strength rivals elite jounin of a similar persuasion. [break][break] SA: Speed Hakurei is very fast. He doesn’t skip leg day and practices sprinting every day. He can move as fast as an Elite Jounin whose secondary specialization is taijutsu, if they haven't trained enough to have a special ability in speed. [break][break] SA: Accuracy Whether a punch or an ice spear, Hakurei has superb hand eye coordination. The trick to his accuracy is a lifetime of eating carrots and playing darts at the bar. He is much less likely to miss his opponents unless they can get out of the way fast enough. [break][break] SA: Strike Speed Hakurei is incredibly swift. He can deliver a punch faster than most can make a single hand seal. If he goes as fast as he can on a punching bag with light strikes he can wear out the leather in a matter of minutes from the sheer number of strikes he can achieve. By creating a single mirror, the user can launch himself at a blinding speed, traveling long distance in the blink of an eye. However, it can only be used to travel in a straight line. This punch, used on a human, would have the opponent not move an inch from it's spot, but the tremendous force of the punch will send a shockwave through the body, breaking all bones, but also crushing all organs inside the body.

Kyoya would return to the deck where Hakurei was when he shouted the time had come. The pirates had been spotted and were approaching. It spurred Kyoya into a jog and he would jump up on the railing to get a better view. 

Crimson sails. Suspicious arrival. The men on the ship looked to be weathered and to have experienced enough combat to be a challenge to most civilians and lesser trained shinobi. The bird man readied himself, then utilized his awesome jumping power to take to the skies and caught a wave which could get him in the vicinity of the enemy boat's deck. He would follow Hakurei's lead and weave seals for a moment and then grow into a puff ball of feathers. 

His chakre surged to cover them and he felt the heat of his katon warm him against the cold brought on by the Yuki's techniques. He would ignite the katon chakra, then he would nosedive to the enemy deck where he'd land and the fire would explode outwards and his feathers would shoot out as well.  Hopefully he would deal some damage. 

A hardened feather would be plucked from his plume and used as a sword to fend off any eager attackers. Would they have people trained in the art of chakra? Wandering ninja were a thing and while the formal training acquired in the shinobi academy was still something which gave the village shinobi an edge.

DESCRIPTION:

By utilizing the Hari Jizo, the Tsuruza member will grow the feathers from their shoulders to cover them entirely. The user will then cover the newly grown feathers in katon chakra before they dive towards the ground in their feather cocoon of hardened feathers. They can choose to light the cocoon on fire as they descend or as they hit the ground. As they hit the ground the force will cause a crater to form and the feather jizo will explode outwards releasing the senbon like feathers as well as releasing the katon chakra, which will explode outwards and cover the last three meters of the outer perimeter of the explosion. The senbon feathers will cover an area equal to five meters. The pattern the explosion takes is in the spoiler in the jutsu app.

Yuki Hakurei Tsuruza Kyoya Reiji Nue

The moment Hakurei saw the approaching pirate ship, the man would create an ice mirror before launching himself as the ship at incredible speeds. As he ran towards the hull, he would send chakra to his hand and deliver a powerful punch to the ship, in hopes of making it sink eventually. Thanks to his strength and technique, the area his fist hit would explode with shrapnel towards the insides of the ship. Due to where he aimed and how he struck, water would immediately begin to pour into the ship from the entrance Hakurei had created.

"The hell?”

Hearing the sound of the explosion below the ship, a brown haired woman with tattoos would peak over the edge of the ship and towards where Hakurei was. Noticing the damage and the man who was the cause of it, the pirate would focus chakra in her throat and fire a ball of electricity at Hakurei as she leaned over the edge precariously. Once it hit the ground near him, the ball would explode in a three meter concussive blast and electrocute him if he was still there when the attack landed. And since Hakurei was standing near water, he would be in for a world of hurt if hit. 

On the other side of the deck, Kyoya would slam onto the floor of the ship in an explosion of heat and feathers. The pirate closest to Kyoya’s slam would be hit with several feathers and suffer several burns towards the chest. As he stumbled back with a bloody gurgle, he would collapse and drop the sword he was holding. It seemed that he wouldn’t be much longer for this world.

The second pirate would be luckier in his wounds, only suffering a few light cuts and burns. With a loud shout, he would charge towards Kyoya and attempt to bisect him with his sword. Two pirates further in the back would notch an arrow into their bows and fire upon Kyoya as well. With one of the pirates attacking Kyoya’s left side and their arrows approaching him from the right, they were hoping to kill him in a pincer attack.

"A trap, how interesting. You two! Go check on the damages down below and report back quickly.”

Barking out her orders, the crimson haired captain would create two water clones of herself before leaping back and gaining distance between herself and Kyoya. One of her clones would head towards where Chie, the brown haired pirate, was in order to help deal with the other intruder while the other one would head towards Kyoya. Having the two shinobi initiate the attack first on the pirate's ship was a setback, but the pirates had fought through worse. Now it was time to see if they would survive this onslaught as well.

The range of the clone is limited however, it can not travel very far from the original body. If the Mizu Bunshin is injured, the clone will usually revert back into its natural water state.

[break][break] A pirate with mousy brown hair came into view as he was attempting to jump onto the deck. Hakurei would make a trio of handseals as he tried to body flicker behind her and clap his palms together hard over the sides of her head. This was a taijutsu move that could potentially cause a concussion or damage to her ears that would set her off balance but depending on the heartiness of the opponent it could also potentially kill her outright. [break][break] If it were to become obvious while Hakurei was approaching that this woman was going to complete her raiton jutsu before he could close the distance, he would instead clap his hands together hard enough to create a shockwave that had the potential to break medium difficulty elemental jutsu. Kyoya would bring his arms together, letting chakra flow through his feathers to guard him against the incoming damage. Hopefully it'd make the arrows bounce off of him and an sword strikes finding no or little purchase against the feathers. 

He had trained in the art of weaponry and honed his body into a weapon, so by utilizing his speed and strength he would unfurl the shield and move to strike the nearest individual with the fist - or so it would seem. In reality he would ben his fist upwards and trigger the Fume Ha to extend out and stab at the individual. The other clawed hand would come down to rake at the person's throat. 

Even if the attacks had been blocked, Kyoya would then retreat a few steps, wield his tanto in the hand which had no activated Fume Ha, and then he would charge at the opponents in a zigzag pattern in an attempt to get to them before any arrow got to him.  

His senses were ready and while his form was a strange thing to fight for most outside of yukigakure, he didn't doubt these pirates could put up a fight. The clearly had some formal training in chakra... Was it a nuke? He had a good memory, the bingo book had been studied, but would he remember every face? Not likely, but if they had some strange feature... that was more likely. Granted he didn't have all that much time to study them as he was in the middle of a fight. 

Instead, he would reach out with his chakra, sensing the area. Where was Ryo? Harukei? He was on deck. Kyoya didn't need to check, his signature was loud and clear. Ryo was still on the ship it seemed.

So apparently, this was actually happening.

Reiji heard Harukei shout something, stuffing his stuff away and following the commotion to the main deck. Sure enough, there it was. Yar har har that red ship looked like a pirate ship no doubt about it. The young Nue quietly observed the Yuki and his teammate charge head on into fighting. Well, it looed like someone was eager to throw hands. Which meant he would need to hold the fort there on their ship. Someone had to do it. What good would it be if they did defeat the pirates and then had no boat to return to? Not to count that the waters were always ice cold. He wasn't going to be swimming his way back to the village!

Moreover, someone had to keep the boat crew safe. He wasn't a fighter per se, he was more of a medic than anything else. He could hold the fort just fine though. Besides, these were just a bunch of pirates. It wouldn't be too much of a problem for his teammates to take care of. He just hoped they wouldn't get reckless just because he was there and could heal them after.

"Alright, l-let's do t-this...." The nue would mumble, drawing pair of kunais and standing at the ready for anything. He just hoped the pirates wouldn't start cannonballing their ship. "

Yuki Hakurei Tsuruza Kyoya Reiji Nue

Noticing her opponent’s movements towards her, Chie would aim her lightning ball towards him as Hakurei sped towards her. Unfortunately her attack was nullified by the shockwave from his clap, rendering her technique ineffective and pushing her a couple inches away. Stumbling backwards and letting Siako’s water clone take the lead, Chie would retreat a few meters so she could attack Hakurei from a reasonable distance. Siako’s clone would protect Chie with a sword in hand and attack Hakurei in an effort to keep him busy. Chie would launch another thundershot towards Hakurei while he was distracted as he tangled with the clone.

The pirate attacking Kyoya wouldn’t even have time to clutch his throat as the winged man pierced it with his blade. Arrows would surge towards him as he did this, but thanks to his evasive maneuvers he would be hit by none. The archers would continue launching attacks at him as Siako’s water clone would charge towards him and attempt to cut him with her sword.

It wouldn’t take much time before the two pirates Siako sent down to the bottom of the ship would come back to report the damage to her.

"It’s not looking good Captain, the hull is almost completely destroyed and we’re taking on too much water. The ship’s sinking at a rapid pace.”

Letting out a few curses, Siako would narrow her eyes and glance at the merchant ship a short distance away. It wouldn’t take that much of a trip to reach it. The question was could she reach it while her ship was being accosted by the shinobi. Cracking her neck, Siako would turn towards the pirates next to her before barking more orders.

"One of you help Chie deal with the shinobi while the other protects the archers so they can land their shots. Now!”

As the two pirates ran to do their assigned task, Siako would run past Kyoya and shout to Chie as she leapt off the ship.

"Chie with me! We’re taking their ship!”

Diving towards the water, Siako would pierce through the waves and send chakra flowing from her body to the nearby water around her. Turning back towards her ship, Siako would tread water as she waited for her second in command to follow after her.
