hidden village: AMEGAKURE NO SATO

Nestled on a giant lake and hidden from distant view by seemingly never ending rain storms sits Amegakure no Sato. Protected naturally by a lake that seems to have its own turbulent current the only way into the Village is over two possible bridges. Both bridges are protected by a crossing checkpoint where Gateguards patrol 24/7. Trying to get over the turbulent lake is next to impossible - even if one has accurate enough chakra not to get washed away sensors watch the lakes around the Village with ruthless efficiency. The rain around the Village and lake too has a surprising amount of tinged chakra to it - almost as if the rain itself is being watched.

Once past the bridge one will be surprised at the inviting glow of lights that permeate just slightly through the rain. Amegakure is polar opposite to the likes of Konohagakure where sun shines down almost constantly. The city is dark and dim, neon lighting being one of the few lights that guides wanderers within the city. The inhabitants of Amegakure have had to learn to live with their smaller landmass - many residents have built upwards and have prospered well.

Despite their perceived reputation the residents of Amegakure are not dour people. They are simply people who have learned to cope with what life has thrown at them and over the past decade or so those people who have worked hard have seen the benefits pay off - Amegakure is a treasure trove of activity and advancement. It is still highly militarised... but one could forget that with all that sits on offer.

the red tower

The Red Tower is the political epicentre of Amegakure. It is strictly off limits to anyone without clearance - and getting clearance is hard. Most, if not all, military and Village planning is done within the walls of the Tower. Not even an Elite Jounin has presumed access. Put simply, one does not simply walk into the Red Tower. Trespassers are met with extreme force - allied or not.

If one finds themselves with business within the Red Tower they must pass through a separate security checkpoint to enter the walled off military zone that sits inside the center of the Village. Once inside visitors pass through a stone courtyard and straight into the tallest tower in Amegakure. By and large visitors are escorted straight to their meeting chamber, tall ceilings and electric lighting guide the way.

On the highest floor sits the Amegakure Lord's office and - hidden even from visitors - the tower goes deep within the lake to a chamber countless floors down. Only the Lord and high ranking officials know of the chambers existence, it is accessible by elevator or by chakra walking down into the depths and the chamber itself is carved with ancient fuinjutsu created by the Tenchi Clan, capable of containing and sealing the Amegakure Bijuu. The Red Tower gets its namesake from this tower, for when the seals are activated the entire base of the tower glows red.

himin machi [lit. slums]

The Himin Machi is the result of what happens when an industrial boom meets stubborn business owners who do not wish to change with the times. The Himin Machi is located away from the Village gates on the southernmost part of the Village, buried below the better looking, newer buildings and scrapers.

Amegakure does not tolerate criminals within its military heart, so there are no such things as gangs within the Amegakure streets but, like any growing trade hub, there is always a seedy underbelly of people wishing to make cheap ryo or offer less than reputable services to shinobi on leave.

The Himin Machi never sleeps and as a result apartments are cheap to rent here - though they are not what one would call good living standards. One can find odd shops buried within the gutters of the Himin Machi that might sell semi useful things. The Police Corps presence here is strong and as Amegakure realty always says... living higher is better.

Arashi Teien (Lit. storm garden)

A rare site in Amegakure, but it exists nonetheless! Arashi Teien is snuggled like a hidden gem between the towering scrapers that make up Amegakure. Tranquil and serene with a small forest and cobbled paths lined with flowers, there is a strict 'no fighting' policy on the park.

Why? Because the Ame Lord is sick of re-paying the fees to rebuild the pavillion that sits on the small, yet surprisingly deep, pond!

It is a good place to practice less violent jutsu, however, and it is not an uncommon sight to see Academy Students and Genin learning to water walk on the pond which is far more tranquil than the torrid lake around Amegakure. Rumour has it the pond holds a treasure... though no one has ever found it and most say it is just Academy Student gossip. Or is it?

chikatetsu [subway]

Commonplace around Amegakure no Sato is its vast undercity connections. It allows Amegakure's citizens to zip from various parts of the city with great ease. Genin are usually sent here on one of their first few missions to keep it clean and sanitary.

Susanō no Keisatsu to Keikai Butai HQ (WATCH CORPS HQ)

Located on the ground floor and first floor of the Susanō Tower, the Watch Corps HQ is the opposite of JITE. They are protectors of justice and light and often use their detective skills to catch criminals and miscreants around the city. Like any functioning HQ there are multiple departments each with their own dedicated, top notch facilities.

ichiba

The heart of Amegakure, if one were a tourist, is the Ichiba. The Ichiba is a large, sprawling marketplace that is buzzing with activity 24/7, found not too far off from the Village gates and spreading for many blocks across the Village.

And it isn't just tourists who find themselves looking for a good deal, if one knows what to look for, shinobi gear is available of varying quality. And given that the local populace lives high above, many have taken to opening restaurants and food stands to tempt those above. The smell of fresh food is a constant, the sound of people bartering is louder!

amegakure no BYŌIN [Hospital of Amegakure]

Amegakure's Hospital is located near to the Shinobi Academy. It is easily accessible to those that need it and is patrolled regularly by the Watch Corps and shinobi on central duty.

Kitted out with high tech equipment and a true reflection of Amegakures wealth, there is little to no hospital in the world that is better in terms of advances in technology and science.

amegakure academy

The home of all rookie shinobi and located a stones throw away from the hospital, the Amegakure Academy is the centre of education within the Village. Although it is primarily used to teach those who have enrolled into military service the ways of chakra, thanks to the economic wealth of recent years, the Academy also teaches basic functional skills to those whose application is successful.

The Academy is a multi-floor building with a larger outdoor training space. It isn't too far from the Arashi Teien and it isn't uncommon to see Academy students running through the streets near to the Academy when they learn new tricks.

It does have an off limits, reinforced basement space, designed to protect civillians of the Village in the event of a cataclysmic event or war. This is almost always under lock and key unless required... it's never stopped students from trying to sneak a peak though!
