The position of the Jounin Commander was to the people under their charge. They were to ensure that training was provided, that missions were kept in order and assigned to only those that had the profession , skills, and experience to handle them. It was a heavy run, but well timed machine that created security throughout Sunagakure and beyond that. While it wasn't as vigorous as working for other organizations that often hindered in the black, it was the backbone of the country and held importance as being one of the first lines of defense when it came to the country's safety. So what happened when one individual didn't fulfil that expectation? What if their actions seemed to be unreasonable in terms of previous assignments? In truth, it could be a number of things, but then again, it could be nothing at all... Paranoia was a trait that she had begun to adapt over the recent months, but it hadn't been so strong as to when she had first returned from being captured and rescued by her father and closest of kin. They weren't all family, but they were a big part of her life, and they came when she needed them. Her position as the Jounin Hancho, meant that their safety was now in her hands as well, and while she was reluctant at first to take it, she knew better than to deny it. After all, if not her, it could be someone less understanding of military life or the importance of people in general. Most if not all shinobi understood this, and those that didn't wouldn't find a lasting or fulfilling career in service. So while she was willing to look on the possibility of cold feet or perhaps a late realization of this person's now coming to term with their life-long choice to serve, there was no way in hell she could ignore other reasons behind their absence. Flying over the sky, seeing the faint image of Shutara Fortress in the distance, the young female would allow her dust cloud to lower her down, prompting her to land at the entrance of Nimaiya. The large trading town held most of the fortress garrison here, and it operated in rotation to ensure that someone was ready to act if the worst came to pass. The access to the rest of the country was only passed the Boneway, but none had yet to dare such an attempt, not in the last 30 to 40 years. It's upkeep was vital, so it was all the more important to find out what the issue was and to resolve it as quickly as possible. Though she really hoped it was just a matter of one man going missing because he was ill or too stupid to send a note... Making her way through the streets, the young Oonakayama would brush her hair from her face, looking over the armed guards that were on patrol, and some civilians as she passed. Much of them were family members, others traders and merchants. People just trying to make a living. It was hardly like Sekara, if not organized. But sadly, as much as she might want to take a tour, considering it being her first time here directly, Arashi hardly had a moment to spare. Though with luck, she'd get to the bottom of this without having to really worry about a long stay. The trip alone had taken her two days. As the major garrison came into view, it's tower presence similar to that of her old chamber tower in The Pits, Arashi would release a breath before making her way inside, looking around her upon her entry as she held a calm expression. "I'm looking for the Garrison Commander...can anyone point me in their direction?" Her tone was calm, resting one hand upon her hip as she stood within the door way, her expression soon turned a bit more serious as she then shrugged her shoulders. "I'll take even a lieutenant if ya got one handy? "Yes ma’am.”

One of the soldiers on guard would leave his post to guide Arashi further inside with a nod. Inside of the garrison a few guards here and there could be seen roaming about. The insides were clean and tidy, showing off the professionalism of the captain guarding this outpost. It would take a few moments of walking before the duo was stopped outside of a closed door. Knocking firmly on the wood, the young guard would announce their arrival.

"We have the visitor you sent for sir.”

Upon hearing a grunt of confirmation, the soldier would open the door, letting Arashi inside before closing the door behind her. Aligning the walls of this brightly lit room would be various bookshelves filled to the brim with books. A rustic orange carpet would lie below Arashi’s feet, covering up most of the floor.

The captain himself, a bearded man with a scar across his right cheek would be situated behind his desk. Judging from the amount of papers strewn across the front of it, it seemed that he had been quite busy for the past few days. Rubbing his eyes with a sigh, the captain would put down the paper he was looking at and give Arashi his undivided attention.

"I’m assuming you’re here about the missing guard? I’ve had so many other concerns to deal with that I've been unable to allocate any resources to that task. Good thing we got you eh? I have a suspicion that some things are not as they appear to be.”

Nodding her head, Arashi would begin following behind the solider, her attention set upon her surroundings. It was certainly a far cry from the Kage Manor, not to mention her own experience in towers of olden times. Granted, she was within a fortress meant to protect the whole of the country. Not way it would be small or no less more fortified. Though she was surprised how little dust she could spot. Either the cleaning of these men were next to perfect or they were to the point of obsession. Military life...kinda gotta wonder how easy our own training is in Sunagakure... With their approach to the Captain's office, his own guard preventing access until given permission, Arashi would bow in thanks to her former guide before walking inside. In truth, it was almost identical to what she had found in her office upon her mother's departure. It was certainly formal to the say the least. All the way to the rustic carpet that seemed to indicate the nation's crest. Taking it in, she'd note the number of papers that seemed stacked upon his desk, leading to the clear assumption of how hectic it was being in charge of such a large group. It was a certainly a setting that she was growing familiar with herself. But, if he could manage it, there was no way that she couldn't learn to as well. Learn by doing...yea...that was what her father said...though it was too early to know if it was true. Upon hearing his explanation on how little had dedicated to the task of the missing guard, Arashi would blink before raising her brow and holding her hand to her hip. "Yea...I can get that...plus how often can one guard go missin right?" It was a small poke at the grizzled male in front of her, but it was clearly not out of disrespect. Not really. In honesty, if someone within her own troops had gone missing, she might very well have sent out a party as soon as the next day. But then, she couldn't very well say that. Things had a certain rhythm to it. Especially when resources were hard to come by and organize properly. But weren't people supposed to be the greatest resource of all? At the mention of how this event wasn't exactly all that it seemed, Arashi would release a breath before then leaning against the wall with a calm expression. "Okay then...why isn't it? I read in the report that much...can you give me a few details?" "Surprisingly pretty often. Be it deserters, a guard getting too drunk, or various other things. Unfortunately with the amount of guards here, not all of them are able to act professionally.”

Rubbing the top of his head with a sigh, the captain tried to forget the memories of the worst guards he had dealt with in the past. The younger ones were always the worst. Either too arrogant or too desperate to prove something. He didn’t know which was worse. Arrogance could be hammered out, but overly spooked guards setting off false alarms was a little harder to iron out.

"Before I go ahead and speak, I’m assuming you know that anything said here can’t be repeated to anyone else, correct?”

Waiting for a positive confirmation, the captain would take a moment to gather his thoughts before resuming his speech.

"You should be no stranger to our animosity towards Iwagakure or Amegakure. And it is suspected that from one of these two villages a disastrous attack will occur. No doubt disguised of course. Our spy who mentioned this has vanished, leaving us with only the bare minimum to go on. Unfortunate but something we have to deal with in our line of work.”

"While the future perpetrator is unknown, we believe that this fortress is one of the places listed for sabotage, which makes the disappearance of one of our guards highly suspicious. Yet this disappearance is just one of the many problems I’ve had to deal with. This could be a false trail or the missing clue we need. That’s what I need you to find out. A success here could be the key to victory over this mysterious foe. It is up to you to protect Sunagakure and those who live within.”

Reaching into the pile of papers on his desk, the captain would flip through a few of the pages before handing the bundle to Arashi. Written on the papers would be all of the information known about the disappearance of the guard. Shinji, the guard, was last seen patrolling the border closest to the mountains. Due to the wind blowing through the sand on the ground, no tracks could be found and no signs of struggle were seen. It was an odd disappearance, one that stunk of something more sinister.

"If there is any more assistance you need, ask and I shall see what I can do.”

"I want to say that's surprising...but then again...despite our best efforts...shinobi aren't exactly known for being full straight laced either...We try though...all ya can hope for..." Shrugging her shoulders, the Jounin would then raise her brow as she heard the comment of all information being stated here was to remain within this room. High security wasn't anything new, considering that she had her own share of secrets. But as she nodded to show her understanding of this, she'd then hear the mention of Iwagakure and Amegakure, prompting her to close her eyes as she allowed herself a moment for a short breath. A possible attack under disguise from one of the two village, an informant going missing and leaving barely anything for them to go on. In truth, she could say she was worried about the agent, but if they were gone this long, it was possible that they were either dead or perhaps the spy in and of themselves. Still, she was holding on to a small bit of optimism on the loyalty of their defensible military. Still, with matters as they were, they had a possible attack coming from one of these two nations, and little to go on. Not to mention that the fortress itself could be on the list of targets for this event. It meant little time to lose and all the more reason to get to work. Though the idea of her having to protect Sunagakure from an mysterious assault was more than a bit blood-chilling. "No pressure then right?" A smirk crossed Arashi's face as she then began to look over at the Captain, a calm expression resting on her face as she cupped her hand beneath it. As she took a look at the papers before her, her gaze would begin to scan the information presented and looked over it in as much detail as she could. After all, she couldn't very well leave this room with it. Shinji, the guard that had gone missing, had last been seen on patrol in the area closest to the mountains. With the desert as it was, it was likely that any tracks to find him were slim to none, especially one that were physically noticeable. No sign of fighting back either, so it meant that either he had been caught off-guard or left off willingly. Neither were good, though for now, she had to focus on what she knew. At the offer of assistance if she should require it, the Suna nin would look in his direction, putting the paper down as she began to speak. "If I could, I would like access to Shinji's living quarters. Maybe I can find somethin there that could explain his last minute departure...worst case I find zip and we're back to square one..." It was her hope that perhaps getting a scent from Shinji would aid in identifying him once she began her hunt. His odor might not have been completely diminished, if she was lucky. "That can be arranged.”

Taking a moment to lean back in his chair, the captain would narrow his eyes in thought before responding to Arashi.

"He’s been missing for around two days, but the exact timeframe isn’t known.”

So although he caught the disappearance of one of his guards relatively quickly, it had still been a whole two days. And a lot of things could happen in that timeframe. Unfortunately there wasn’t much he could do about it, so he’d just have to rely on Arashi for now.

Calling in one of the guards outside, the captain would order his subordinate to guide Arashi to Shinji’s quarters. As the door to the room closed behind them, the guard would quietly show the older kunoichi where to go. Their travel went quickly and quietly until they soon arrived at their destination. Turning towards Arashi, the guard would take position outside the door before speaking.

"Here we are. I’ll be outside if you need anything.”

Inside of the door would be a clean and tidy small room. There would be a small living room area, a bedroom further in the back, and a closet. Nothing too big, but Shinji was a common guard after all. Inside the living room would be a couch with a medium sized table in front of it. On top of the table would be various books and papers. Upon closer examination, most of the books would be revealed to be fiction with the papers being just as unimportant.

Inside his bedroom would be a made up bed with shoes tucked partially underneath. The only thing of note would be a small desk situated in the side of the room. If Arashi chose to examine it further, she would notice that a light sheen of dust covered the surface. Interestingly enough, a rectangle shape in the dust stood out just barely. Almost as if something like a journal had been removed.

Examination of the closet would only show Shinji’s various work uniforms and casual clothes. All in all, there wasn’t anything too stunning inside of Shinji’s room. But something was odd, that was for sure. And it was up to Arashi to get to the bottom of it.

Bowing politely, Arashi would exit the man's office and begin to follow the soldier to Shinji's quarters. While the trip was rather quick, the silence made it all the longer to arrive. Though it did give the girl time to think. Two days to be noticed missing...though it couldn't be for certain around what time it took place... For all I know, they could have been missing the moment of daybreak...no one have any clear idea...for a place like this though, it not a surprise...who'd miss one soldier when your in charge of thousands... It was a sad way of thinking, but the reality of it was that the good of the many outweighed the loss of one. She hated that notion... Upon their arrival, the young officer would allow for Arashi to have access to the room, stating to call if she needed anything more. Opening the door, she'd find a relatively tidy living quarter that put her own room to shame. It was damn near spotless, allowing for what felt like even the floor to shine with a twinkle of light. Making her way within, she'd take a whiff of the area, allowing her to take in the scent that surrounding the room. In truth, she'd only be able to get a clear identification of Shinji from something that heavily carried his scent. Which would mean his clothing, the bed, anything that would have been used often. Making her way toward the closet, she'd see the organized arrangement of clothing, uniforms and all. All arranged much like a good soldier would. It was impressive, if not a bit obsessive. Taking in the odor, the young kunochi would sigh as there appeared to be nothing amiss within the room. Yet as she passed the desk, that was when she saw it. A thin layer of dust, yet with a space that seemed to hold nothing at the center. The shape was easy to recognize to the avid reader. "A book? But it isn't here....everything in this space is clean save for the desk...meaning either he didn't care to move the book out of the way...or someone didn't bother worrying to make sure this area was cleaned..." Cupping her hand beneath her face, her eyes would close as she narrowed her eyes to look into the abyss. Everything in here is to the level...save for the desk...but why would anyone leave such a spot untouched and the rest as tidy as a maid? Could someone else have actually been in here...covering their tracks? But to leave one spot dusty? As she allowed her sense of smell to expand, she'd continue to check the area for any other odors that might stand out. Yet in doing so, she'd call out to the officer waiting outside. "Has anyone else been inside this room to your knowledge?" In reality, she has simply discovered that by channeling some chakra to her nose she can enhance the cells within it and gain a super sense of smell that may act as a sensor and tracking technique. She can smell out strangers, steel and various other things. Arashi may retract her chakra from her nose as well to make her sense of smell return to normal. Due in most regards to her heavily enhanced sense of smell, With her continued usage of this ability, she has now become capable of near passively monitoring the exact range of a target and their positioning within 250 meters. (Able to turn "off and on" this enhanced sense at the 'prick' of chakra to her nose) -Jutsu Used- -Items Used- -Familiar Used-

"To my knowledge, only the maid has after we examined the room to see if there was anything suspicious.”

As Arashi focused on her nose, she would notice a few things. A few of the scents she could smell were old, but one of them would stick out to her. It would be quite fresh, created merely a few hours ago. Whoever had visited this room had been here recently. And judging from the word of the guard, it was more than likely the maid.

"I can take you to her if you want? She hasn’t started her rounds yet, so she should be in her usual spot. This place is pretty big, so we need all the help we can get to keep it clean.”

Turning to face Arashi fully, the guard would wait for a response. He didn’t know exactly what was going on, but the captain had told him to help Arashi in any way he could. And seeing as how he didn’t want to get penalized for slacking off, the young man was trying his utmost to be helpful. He hadn’t known Shinji personally, but a fellow guard was a fellow guard. If something could happen to Shinji, then something could happen to him.

"The Maid?" It seemed a bit odd to have a maid clean up the room after they had begun an investigation into the whereabouts of a missing person, let alone a guard. A calm expression would rest over Arashi's face as she noted the smells within the room, the other begin the most recent among the rest. She'd mentally make note of it, though for now, she wouldn't get too many other answers from just this room alone. It was possible that this was a bust, yet then again, it also felt like there was a lot more going on here than met the eye. "If ya could...that'd be awesome...thanks..." Looking to her escort with a grin, she'd wait for him to lead the way as she'd move behind him. Guy goes missing and they clean away any trace of his whereabouts...save for what looked to be a book. If the maid had cleaned, it makes sense for her to leave such items of personal belongings alone, but what if she's a nosey kinda maid? Maybe she's the one who's behind it.... Seemed too convenient... "Is the maid often in this area of the fortress or is there more than one movin round the halls?" Arashi felt that she was on to something...but there was no way to know till she got there. At the very least, she'd be able to identify if the woman in question was one of the people within Shinji's room. That was at least a step in the right direction. "In this specific part of the garrison, we only have one maid. Although we do have more than just one, they each have their own part of the garrison to work on.”

After answering Arashi’s question, the guard would quickly lead her to the residence of the maid. Knocking on the door firmly, he would wait a moment before speaking.

"Mako, are you there? There’s someone who would like to have a word with you.”

There would be a few moments of silence before an affirmative hum would be heard from behind the door. Various shuffling sounds would occur before the door was slid open, revealing the owner of these sounds. Staring up at the two visitors with tired eyes, Mako would nod her head before beginning to speak quietly.

"You can come in, I was just getting ready.”

Leaving the door open, Mako would turn around and head back into her room. The guard would nod towards Arashi before taking position on the outside of the doorway, making sure the two wouldn’t be bothered.

Inside of the room would be a living area that had various cleaning supplies scattered about. Judging from the halfway filled cart, it seemed that Mako was still getting ready for the day. Near the back of the room would be a table where Mako would be currently sitting, waiting for Arashi to take the seat in front of her. And with the maid now sitting, Arashi would be able to get a better look at the woman.

Mako would possess short brown hair and pale skin. Skin that was turning a sickly shade of white. And by the looks of it, recently too. Her hair would only be brushed enough to be presentable, but if one looked close enough, it would be obvious it was a rushed job. Large glasses would cover her eyes and the large bags underneath. Curiously enough, Mako would be wearing a long sleeve shirt and pants, with barely any of her skin showing. And judging from the few drops of sweat dripping down her face, she was suffering from the heat underneath her outfit.

A small tattoo would peek up from below her neck, but thanks to Mako's clothing, Arashi wouldn’t be able to tell what it was. Her hands would be gently laid upon the desk, and around one of her fingers would be a tattooed seal. Thanks to Arashi’s fuinjutsu knowledge, she would recognize it as a Binding Heart Seal. At least one that had been slightly modified.

"What was it that you wanted to ask?”

The arrival of the two seemed to come with a sudden shuffle behind the door frame, but then again, it could be that she wasn't expecting them. Which made sense. Though upon seeing them, the maid, Mako, seemed willing to allow them access to her quarters, to where Arashi accepted as she made her way inside. The brief scan she could gain from her entrance allowed for some insight, but nothing that did much in terms of telling her much about the individual she was meeting. It was only upon seating herself in front of Mako that a lot more was revealed. She was pale, which while wasn't uncommon, was a bit rare for one that lived so far into the desert, almost to the point of seeming ill. Whether or not this was natural seemed to be in question, but it wasn't exactly a good starting point for a conversation. Not to mention if she wanted valid information. She had gotten herself together in a bit of a rush as well, though considering her unexpected company was reasonable as well. Though then again, perhaps there was more behind it. Her attire certainly didn't seem suitable for the increased temperature, if anything, it looked uncomfortable. A clue maybe? Well, Arashi wore long sleeves as well, but it wasn't as though she felt much when it came to hot and cold internally. She knew of the sensation, but not to the degree that one would get normally. But putting that observation aside, she'd note the one thing that seemed to stand out the most. The seal around her finger. It was a Binding Heart Seal, a mark of eternal devotion to another person. Granted, such practice was few and far between the use of simple wedding bands, but it did hold a romantic place within current culture. The two would be marked, forever bond to one another, until one of them perished or the finger removed. Judging by the appearance of it, it could either be fresh or slightly faded. It took long for such seals to fade, and with a constant chakra source, it would not wither away without one of the two obstructions happening to do so. As the young woman asked just what it was Arashi wished of her, the short haired shinobi would calmly smile as she then released a breath. "Sorry...I won't take too much of your time...I just wanted to know if while you were cleaning one of the rooms in your assigned portion of the garrison, did you happen to come across something unusual within them?" Resting her hands in front of her, Arashi would close her eyes as she then allowed them to open. "I'm currently looking into a missing guard by the name of Shinji? His quarters were on your list of assigned areas and I was hoping that maybe since you were present in the room, you might have found something..." Due in most regards to her heavily enhanced sense of smell, With her continued usage of this ability, she has now become capable of near passively monitoring the exact range of a target and their positioning within 250 meters.
