This is so troublesome
But I guess I’ll do it.

Running a hand through his hair Satoshi looked at mountainous regions and numerous plateaus in front of his eyes. It was going to be troublesome to search the area but honestly there weren’t a lot of clues. Instead of focusing on that for now though the nara turned around and face the team he was currently part of.

It seemed liked somewhere along the way he had been saddled with taking genin out on missions because it was starting to be a more regular thing now that he looked back on things. To be fair his laidback nature and sensing ability was why probably though. Even then for the most part all the mission he had ended up leading had been in either allied countries or close enough to them where it shouldn’t be an issue.

Now the team itself was colorful enough in the sense that once more he found himself with a genin from another village though this one was from Kumo and a member of clan. The other two were from Konoha with one of them being from the Ōorigami clan and the other from the famed Senju clan. So far everything has been smooth, though to be fair there hadn’t been that many interactions between everyone so only time would tell if that would hold.

Briefly his eyes moved to scant the mountain range once more before Satoshi finally spoke up and addressed everyone. "Right, something has been targeting Konoha messenger birds as they pass through here between the border of Land of Wind and Land of fire. As you know our job is to search the area and find out what or who exactly is causing that and naturally make them stop.”

Pausing for a moment the Nara turned around to look back at the genin with him before asking them. "So, any questions or suggestion from you guys? If not then we can move on to giving a bit of info on ourselves and what each one is capable of, seeing as we haven’t worked together before. After that, well we’ll start combing through the plateau.”

Kagura Shingan [Kagura Mind's Eye]
After exploring his innate sensory abilities and thanks to his perfect chakra control Satoshi was able to unlock the Kagura Shingan. This ability allows him to find, sense, and track individuals through their chakra over vast range that exceeds ten kilometers. His able to achieve this effect by focusing and opening his mind's eye, though due to the low chakra cost Satoshi is able to keep it active passively at all times (Range is 15km) and increase the range even more with the use of the jutsu(25km). The ability also extends to telling when a person is lying from the fluctuations in a person's chakra made from dishonest emotions or detecting if someone, including him, is under a genjutsu. Also by focusing on a particular chakra, Satoshi can perceive its location and movement with great detail allowing him to track the movements of even those that are faster than him.

This mission might not have been the most pivotal to national security or anything, but Katsuo couldn't help but wonder what he had done to earn the favour of the village enough to get him sent on something like this. He hadn't so much as met his genin team and he had been all but shoved in the direction of this job, leaving him with nothing to do but to attend for fear or disappointing others. Not that he was complaining, of course, it was a grand honour he simply wasn't sure what had convinced someone to give said honour to him of all people.

More than that, he found himself staring at a member of one of the other major clans of the leaf village. They weren't one of the nobles, but it was still surprising to see someone in such a position of authority comparative to his own standing there and treating him as if he was one of his subordinates. It was a little flattering to be honest.

Lastly, his eyes came to focus on the stranger in their midst. The captain of their squad, himself and this third, as of yet unidentified, person were all from Konoha, but the fourth? They were from beyond the village walls. He had to assume, based on the briefing they were receiving from their captain, that this one was from the Land of Wind, the other side of the communication chain that was being broken by this outlaw.

It made sense, but he'd never seen someone from outside Konoha before. Well, that wasn't quite true, he'd seen the occasional wanderer within the Land of Fire, but even then they were from the same land, the same general culture. This was the first outsider that he'd ever truly met, and all he wanted to do was ask a million questions. Some were tame, some were far more invasive, a lot had to do with the way the boy was dressed, but all of them would have to wait as they had a job to do.

"I have a question, sir." The inquisitive and eagerness was entirely hidden underneath a face of stoic coolness, one that hid the entirety of his deeper thoughts behind an air of confidence and 'ego'. "Why are we still using birds? We've got those blonde brainiacs who handle all sorts of long-range stuff, right? Aren't birds a thing of the past? Also, why are we sending communications with the Land of the Wind in the first place? It's not like we're allies or enemies or anything, we're just neighbours."

This was the exact sort of attitude that had frequently gotten him in trouble with the Academy's teaching staff. It wasn't that he was being disrespectful, he was just being entirely blunt to the point of coming off as rude.

It was really, really, really really hot. And, Akihiko wasn't sure he liked it. He had come here prepared for heat, but this was worse than he could ever imagine. Having grown up in the mountains, this wasn't exactly what he was used to, nor what he wanted to do. But it was a mission, an extra mission for him to put under his belt, collaborating with allies! Which was a good thing too, because that meant the village bonds would be even greater after they were all said and done with this mission.

Akihiko didn't say much - which was unusual for him, but he didn't know anyone - until Katsuo piped up with a question.

"Whaaaat? You're joking? I thought Konoha and Suna were totally best friends!" He didn't know much, but he had been told of the history of the land, and he had been certain that Konohagakure and Sunagakure had been allies for a long time. Unlike Kumogakure, which was mostly neutral with everyone aside from Konohagakure.

This point of conversation didn't seem to last long though as the Omori would inhale, almost inflating his entire body as he did so.

"I'm ready to go! Also, hi! I'm Omori Akihiko of Kumogakure and uhh... We're gonna totally NAIL this mission!" The red-head was nothing short of positive.

you play with the wolf
It hadn't been too long since Asahi had visited Kumogakure for a joint village mission, and now he was visiting a foreign land in the other direction. There were two Konoha shinobi he had never met, but their clan names rang a bell. Asahi didn't know too much about the Nara or the captain of their team, but he had heard a little bit. And from what he remembered reading, the smaller boy was a Senju, a more familiar name in Asahi's brain.

And then there was Akihiko from Kumogakure, who held a clan name with high regard in his own land. Asahi had met the orange haired boy during that brief Kumogakure visit. The boy hadn't reacted the same way he had during their meeting in the Omori clan garden. In fact, throughout their journey to where the group stood now, the boy had seemed more quiet than Asahi remembered him, but maybe that was because of the mission setting.

The porcelain layer of the mask Asahi wore, almost seemed to give the green haired boy a bandaged face. It's layered makeup added to the already foreign heat, but the genin was pushing himself to get used to it. He had been wearing it since the beginning of the groups journey from Konoha. Asahi's invention, sentimental value aside, was a crucial part of his mission attire. But now that they stopped, and their team captain had addressed the task at hand, Asahi took it off to reveal his face, his golden eyes going from member to member as they spoke.

The white haired boy, who was seemingly the youngest of their bunch, made a statement about Konoha's diplomatic status with Suna that Asahi was pretty certain was incorrect...but Asahi held his tongue. The boy's bluntness in his statement resonated with Asahi, since he tended to deliver things in a similar way. Regardless of the nations allyship or not, they were assigned to this mission and they were here. They had their task. Plus, Akihiko addressed it and followed up with an introduction. Ahhh. There was that energy Asahi knew him for. He gave a nod and slight smile at Akihiko before turning back to look out at the land ahead.

"Even though birds are a thing of the past, they can have their uses in the present. They free up some of our blond brainiacs' energy for other communications." Asahi said and paused, realizing he didn't have a clue what as to what the white haired boy was talking about. "But even more practically, they can reveal things trying to hinder that communication line." Asahi continued with his opinion, before immediately going into the next bullet point of his thoughts.

"Which leads me to my suggestion, if its applicable. We could send out a fake messenger bird or something like that to draw out whatever is taking them down? That could potentially help us narrow down all this," Asahi suggested, with a point at the vast mountain terrain around them. That was an idea that the boy had bouncing around in his head since reading the assignment scroll that was sent to him.

This is so troublesome
But I guess I’ll do it.

Satoshi kept an eye on his group and listened attentively as each one of them spoke, collecting what they had said and processing it swiftly before finally jumping into the conversation proper at a few points.

Gesturing with a hand towards the Omori first Satoshi then spoke up. "That’s accurate. We have been allies with Suna for a long time but much like Kumo it is only recently that initiative to solidify and express the bonds the villages share became more widespread. Or well at least when it comes to younger generation like you all. It’s easier to establish new connections with fresh perspective rather then bury old hatchets filled with resentment.”

Pausing briefly the Nara’s face shifted into small smirk as he thought about the Yamanaka. Naturally his first thoughts did drift to his first teammate but didn’t linger too long or carry the usual melancholy before moving to all the other members of said clan he had worked with. Through it all he could confidently say that a lot of them ended up grumbling about headaches and connecting to people and what that felt like. Sometimes he wondered if it was the duty of the nara or akamichi to listen to Yamanaka complain about their hijutsu.

Of course, while some his thoughts drifted, he made sure to respond to the question Katsuo had asked. "Well besides the logistics involved and the availability that it would require when you remove everything else it boils down to having a clan member stationed beyond Konoha pretty regularly….and well you know how clans can be when it comes to their hijutsu or bloodlines. The security risk is just too great for them in the end.”

Seeing though as Asahi had thrown in a suggestion on what to do naturally Satoshi also considered it as well. It was good experience for genin to think of the larger picture and get used to forming plan on the fly when it came to the execution of missions. At least that what Satoshi had learned in his time leading genin.

Rubbing his chin in thought briefly the Nara then flicked his eyes towards the Oorigami and spoke. "Well not a bad idea but it’s going to be a bit of a challenge to try that. None of us have the materials, I would assume, to make a complex enough bird to try and bait whoever is doing this. So that leaves with the option of capturing one and trying to disguise it.”

Clapping his hands Satoshi then gestured towards the plateau, "Right let’s start heading towards it and checking out things and if we see a bird, we can try to capture it.” soon as he finished saying that the nara would have already turned and started walking.

If everyone followed Satoshi would set a normal pace while keeping an ear open for any question they might further have. His sensing ability was enough of a forewarning that he was allowed to do things this way. Eventually if uninterrupted the team would reach somewhat of a crossroad in their exploring with one path leading up towards the peak of the plateau while the other led towards more of a canyon valley that was nested between this plateau and another one.

Both were good options and if Satoshi hunch was right, he could guess that either of them could be used by the one that had been intercepting birds. If they were smart, he could see them shitting between them even to not become predictable should bird’s flight path change.

Humming Satoshi eyed the road and decided to see what the rest of team would say about this. "So we could probably go up the plateau and see about getting clues. It’s the most likely place to launch attack on the birds from. Or we could go down the other way towards what seems to be a small canyon valley. Some attacks could have happened there and well chances of seeing birds might be bigger if we want to go ahead with the idea of baiting out an attack. Actually, with my shadows and if we try to imitate bird sound well enough could also work there as a way of bait.”

Turning his head so he was facing them Satoshi quickly continued in order to explain exactly why he had so long-winded went through all that, "The reason of course of why I’m saying this is because I want all of you to decide which you think is more plausible and should choose in order to finish the mission.” of course, he didn’t mention that in the end both of them would be checked if nothing came out of which ever was chosen.

There was a lot of discussion going on, and frankly, Akihiko was barely following. He was just waiting for the opportunity to just, start going, cause despite the heat - which was awful and he wanted to die from it - he was quite energetic and couldn't possibly keep standing still in one spot for too long. Especially since this conversation appeared to be going in a circle, or at least Aki so saw it because he had lost interest the moment he had made his introduction about himself. Which wasn't particularly an admirable trait in this situation, but at least Akihiko was forgetful about certain things, right?

Fortunately, Satoshi pointed them to keep going towards the plateau, something about catching a bird. Which, would make sense since this was a part of their mission!

"I have some fuuton that I could try and strike a bird out of the sky with, or at least help with that if we wanted to go with grabbing a bird to control or something?" He wasn't the most thoughtful or smartest, but at least he was throwing an idea out in the ring. Akihiko was quite used to giving his opinions from his position as heir all things considered.

The group stopped when the reached a cross in their path. One route lead deeper down into a valley, and another lead to a plateau peak. He listened as Satoshi explained their options and the potential strategies associated with each. Ahh yes! The Nara did shadow manipulation. The genin was looking forward to seeing that in action. He brought himself back to the question at hand. Which path was more plausible given what they knew so far?

Akihiko suggested they go the plateau route and threw out a potential plan they could take with his fuuton. The green haired boy couldn't see an option that was particularly advantageous over the other. If they went top, that was an easy spot for attacks on birds, but so was the path into the valley in it's own way. It seemed like it would depend more on how the hunter themselves were, and if they were skilled enough, they may have used both high and low ground.

Plus, Asahi was the type of guy where if someone else wanted to make the executive decisions, he was all for it, as long as those decisions made sense...

So, he settled on going along with Akihiko's suggestion and agreed on the plateau. "Going up to the peak could also give us more info on the bird's attacker and instances of attacks, and give us a lookout point, along with giving us an opportunity to catch a bird." he said nodding.

"And if we strike a bird down to catch it, and don't kill it, I could potentially heal it to get it to fly again." he chimed in on the idea while stating a skill of his own.
