A HEART'S A HEAVY BURDEN

Kizumi has always been a sucker for a good routine, and her biweekly lunch date with Chuya-sensei was one of her favorites. Chuya had the benefit of being deeply charming, a surprisingly good sensei, and also not someone who expected Kizumi to be anywhere before noon, which the jounin appreciated more fervently than words could ever express. Their ‘lunch dates’ were frequently more like early dinner dates, and half the time involved them eating more ice cream than actual food, so overall Kizumi just had a blast every time. Chuya was impossibly older than her, but her youthful demeanor was refreshing, especially considering how many stodgy, tired, battle-weary jounin and elite jounin Kizumi had to work with on a regular basis. It was nice to spend time with someone who was every bit as competent as the others, but didn’t take herself as seriously. On her way to Chuya-sensei’s home on the Ha compound in Kumogakure, Kizumi considered her options—it felt to her like they’d exhausted all the restaurants in Kumo by this point, especially since so many had shut down during quarantine and never quite recovered. It depended on what Chuya was in the mood for, she supposed, and they could decide from there. It was a quick walk, and though Kizumi was an unimpressive sight in her casualwear—far less intimidating when she wasn’t kitted out with gear, given her short stature—she still had just as much power in her diaphragm as ever as she reached the exterior of Chuya’s home and bellowed, "Chuya-sensei! Let’s go eat!”

Chuya had an incredibly simple abode, as she was literally more weapon than woman she needed nothing. So the interior was a tile floor surrounding a small pool and an almost shrine looking fountain. Center of the fountain was a trident and though there seemed to be water overflowing from the fountain to the pool it seemed unmoving. Well at least it'd seem unmoving in the moment, but as soon as the elite jounin was called for that'd change. The trident seemingly melting into the shrine water which all poured into the pool at once. As the other side of the pool a girl shaped bubbled would rise, it'd seem to pull in wall the water before forming into Chuya at the edge of the pool closest to the doors.

Chuya appearing with a bounce before rushing her own front doors, she'd kick both of the double doors open with all her force. Her small body and lacking muscle meant the act kind of required it, but it'd still be enough force to send the doors flying open and slamming into the wall as it flung full way. "BOOM BABY!" Chuya announced with full excitement for her dinner engagement. As far as she was concerned Kizumi was her new meister really and thus one of her closest and favorite people. There was really nothing new to the meals, but spending time with others was the best reward.

"I hope you brought your walking flops, Kizumi-chan! I hear there's a food cart that rolled up to the east checkpoint outside of the village. Ya'know that uh, like town, not town, but there's like a couple houses and a post office. You know right?!" Chuya's blood had to be some mixture of both sugar and caffeine as she'd speak so quickly much of what was spoken seemed to have no real space between the words. Regardless if her student knew the location, Chuya was quick to point out the direction and begin wandering towards it. Her doors remained completely swung open, but this was the Ha complex and there was nothing of value worth stealing from it.

Barely a moment went by before a small bundle came barrelling through the front doors of Chuya’s home, a tiny fierce flash of bright white hair and sharp teeth bursting out onto the street with explosive energy. "BOOM BABY!” Kizumi cheered back, pumping her fist. Chuya talked a mile a minute, almost too fast for Kizumi to keep up, but she tapped her chin thoughtfully as Chuya described the area she was talking about. "All my flops are walking flops,” she intoned with immense gravitas, as though this were the most intense mission she would embark on all week. She was in the middle of forming a mental map when Chuya simply took off anyway, pointing in the direction they were heading and wandering right off. "Ah, shoot—” Kizumi started, as if to catch up to the smaller woman, but she paused when she realized that Chuya’s doors were just… wide open still. Sure, maybe it didn’t matter, but propriety dictated that Kizumi briefly double back to quietly shut the double doors, before jogging to catch up with her sensei. "I think I know which one you’re talking about,” she said as she caught up to Chuya, keeping pace alongside her. "I haven’t heard about the food cart, though, is it good? You’ve been?” It was nice to hear that something new was rolling into town; it seemed like it had been so long since new businesses had successfully opened.

It was hard for most to take Chuya seriously, she was relatively unimposing in her avatar stage. Granted in her real form she was hard to even consider a shinobi still, but she'd been through it all. She earned her status in the clan and her rank, so it was always quite heartwarming for someone like Kizumi to take her seriously. Even if it'd been in an attempt to play around the quirkiness of herself, it was appreciated. A slight waggle of her sharkish tail in reaction. "Awesome, let's go!" Chuya added raising her mock trident, as she'd gone off.

Strangely the sound and presence of Kizumi wasn't immediately behind her, she'd spin around to see taller woman going to close her door. "No this way!" She'd gesture waving on the woman, as she'd let out a laugh seeing her own door getting closed. Her mind simply couldn't attach value to the structure, she'd seen more than one home and expected she'd probably see another if not many other down the line. Walking backwards into Kizumi caught back up to her, it'd be easy for the jounin to catch up.

Chuya's legs moved at a relatively fast rate, but it was more so she knew Kizumi's walking pace. To the elite jounin these activities really weren't tiring, so she'd comically adjust the speed her legs moved. Though basically keeping a walking stance, speed walking to their destination. "A legendary weapon like myself needs to be available for her wielders to easily find." Chuya would respond to the question with a confident nod. An explanation that she was in a sense locked to her home if someone wasn't there to wield her. Granted Chuya had her Giant Panda Ha Ha, but if he ate something he shouldn't that could be a mess.

"I heard it like just showed up, so we'll be some of it's first critics isn't that exciting?!" Chuya would explain her reasoning for the food cart, despite having no prior given expectation it'd be good.

For as long as they had been working together, so much of Chuya’s existence was still an enigma to Kizumi. Fundamental difference in life experience probably made of most of Kizumi’s disconnect; she’d lived in the same apartment for twenty years, had a deadbolt and chain, would probably never move even if she could technically afford to. Meanwhile Chuya just… left her doors swinging open. Her explanation made sense, but even that was a strange thing to consider: that Chuya was a weapon first, a people second. To Kizumi, Chuya had always just been her sensei. Different perspectives. A cartoonish dust cloud kicked up behind the pair as they zoomed through the village, the supernaturally fast pace of a speedwalking jounin and her elite jounin mentor a sight to behold. "We’ll be trendsetters,” Kizumi confirmed. "... if it’s good. What if it’s bad? I don’t want to, uh, ruin this person’s whole business venture, you know? Are we allowed to give feedback? Do you think food cart chefs like feedback?” But her thoughts wandered back to the unlocked doors, Chuya’s casual, confident assertion that she needs to be available and easily found. A prickle of unease turned her stomach. "Chuya-sensei,” she said after another moment, "what happens if someone takes you from your house while we’re out? Like, if Shoko-chan is going on a mission and needs you, or something?”

Chuya moved with a skip in their beat and a waggle of their shark tail. A certain excitement to just be out, an adventure even if there wasn't an intended thrill to it. The world was often a crazy place and you could never who'd pop out the woodwork. If they did then it'd be the Tide Callers time to shine again. A pride the noble immortal couldn't help feeling giddy about. Them being trendsetters really wasn't a concern for Chuya or the reason she enjoyed such adventures.

Confronted with the concern though the place might be bad, as well as the implement of being it's first critics for being bad. Chuya couldn't help replying in the most nonchalant manner. "If it's bad it'll ruin this persons whole business venture anyways. We just need to be authentic and stick to our point of view, everyone loves honesty right?" Her last statement had some levels of truth, but certainly occasions do pop-up were lies are kinder than the truth. Kizumi could certainly remember at least one occasion where the Ha lied. So these words could be taken as seriously as the elite jounin's appearance.

On their journey another question would be posed to the weapon. A very appropriate question to ask. "Well as a good weapon I need to be available, but a good meister should also know how to find me. Besides wielding me is still a privilege, if they're already wielding me first, then they're really making a mistake. Think of all the adventures we could be having, if you never let me go you know?" Chuya had peddled this before, a plot of a forever campaign. Granted in these times of peace, she didn't really have a realistic conquest. Hunt down a magic cure fish, find a monsters told by local to slay or perhaps end some imaginary evil pirates days. The seas weren't exactly as dangerous as she imagined and the established militaries especially kept the local waters safe.

A trip across the world wasn't really in any reasonable person's agenda, especially a shinobi who represented a village. Even Chuya knew there was in fact a sort of need for her to be close to Kumogakure. Granted the village didn't see her as the asset she believed herself to be. To her she should of been up their right with the sage weapons. "You know it's an early bird gets the worm type deal." Perhaps being that simplistic wasn't right, but sometimes the world was easier to digest when taken from a simple approach.
