Summary: Miyo prepares herself to defend the Iron Bank from any that are foolish enough to approach.

Ōnakayama Miyo

The Mercurial Maiden of Sunagakure

Most people associate Miyo with the Kazekage's family, as she has long since been adopted by them. However, few readily remember that Miyo's birth family were owners of the largest mining conglomerate in Sunagakure, and after their deaths Miyo stood to inherit everything they had. She was now one of the wealthiest individuals in the land.

When someone, or even a group of people, decides that Sunagakure's mining and minting operations are a good target, and set their eyes on the banks of Sunagakure, not only is it Miyo's duty as a shinobi of the village to deal with the problem - but she is personally invested in the safety of their resources.

The bank was guarded, there was no question about that. However, guards were just guards. Often, they were there as deterrents for trouble makers, not a full-blown assault by criminal organizations. They may be ex-shinobis, or hardly even trained, so relying on them alone would be foolish.

Miyo, wrapped up in her ANBU cloak and with her fox mask hanging from her belt to make sure they could identify her as opposed to being a criminal in disguise, approached the supervisors of the guards and introduced her plan.

They were to leave her to her devices and remain out of the way, only to interfere and capture those that retreated. To get involved in her battle would be to risk near certain death, and it was not worth their lives, nor the loss in her performance.

Those guards were also to be augmented by Miyo's dingo trio, some of the best hunters and trackers in the shinobi world. Any criminal attempting to flee would be hard-pressed to get away.

With her instructions disseminated, Miyo moved to the primary vault room and secured her mask in place. There was only one way in and one way out, and behind her the great metal doors of the Iron Bank of Sunagakure created an impressive barrier to any that would attempt to steal the riches within.

Miyo had already begun preparations. Her mercury was summoned and spread through the room, filling every crack and crevice, and much reduced to gaseous form to suffuse the very air with nearly invisible death.

And thus Miyo sat atop her large gourd and waited.

They would come soon enough, and then they would find out why none trifled with the Mercurial Maiden.

[attr="class","mnt"]Perhaps two dozen low-rank enemies were gathered just out of view of the mines. With snickers and gossip whispering between the small cliches they had formed, one man stood out in particular.

A younger male, perhaps in his early twenties, stood at the front lines, a metal bo staff in his arms and two over-sized earrings dangling from his earlobes. A purple robe protected his skin from the blistering sun. While the lesser bandits seemed untroubled and seemingly carefree, his expression was that of someone expecting trouble, and willing to overcome it. Their invasion had been planned for nearly a year now and in secret. Kyuso had made sure to break any loose ends in their mission before they would have ever become a threat.

Perhaps this seriousness was why he was at the head of the operation. Or, perhaps…there was something else about him.

He watched the entrance to the mines closely, the guards had a very distinctive rotation that would make it easy to cut their chain in communication and enter the mines without alerting the other guards.

Kyuso turned around, slamming his bo staff in the sand below. The sand rippled outward a good few feet, shaking the ground below and gaining the attention of the peons at his disposal. "We set out in five. Double check your equipment, and make sure those damn tags aren’t set off until we’re all out, got it?” His jaw clenched angrily, or perhaps nervously. This was his defining moment, and if they were to succeed here he would very well get the rank he wanted…and deserved. He wasn’t going to let these nobodies mess up his goals.

As the guards began their rotation, they moved out, their steps eerily silent against the shifting sands. It would seem they had trained for this or perhaps they had traveled these lands for quite some time. Quickly, quietly, and efficiently, they took out the two rotation guards, coloring the sand red and then headed straight into the mines. They formed a set of four squads with six bandits in each. It seemed at least one in each squad was leading, and the way they carried themselves clearly put them in higher rank and experience.

Kyusa already knew where the vault was located, and he would take his men straight for it. The glory would be his. As they made their way, several guards of the mines fell, silently before ever having the chance to even scream. Despite their seemingly low-ranking, they worked well as a team, and they knew their purpose.

Kyusa, stopped at the entrance of the vault, his light grey eyes scanning. Something…was off. There were no guards at the vault, the most important location…why? They couldn’t be that confident.

"Ready yourselves,” he said, taking hold of his bo staff and readying it.

Summary: Miyo makes her presence known. She had anticipated letting them go, but the loss of the guards would change her mind. She might not leave any survivors, after all.

Ōnakayama Miyo

The Mercurial Maiden of Sunagakure

Miyo had done what she could to minimize the losses of the guards by dismissing those that she could, but perhaps she had been too late. Some lives were lost, and that would be most regrettable, but criminals would do as criminals do - lives very rarely factored into their self-serving calculations.

But, little did they know, that there would be consequences for their actions. Certainly, their suspicions had been roused by the lack of guards at the entrance to the vault, but it was not entirely undefended.

Ōnakayama Miyo, the Mercurial Maiden of Sunagakure, was waiting. Certainly, the lack of guards where they normally would be might end up perplexing, but when she made herself known by walking out into the open, she suspected they may have second thoughts. ANBU was on the scene, even if they could only see one.

"Welcome to Sunagakure's Iron Vault," Miyo stated with arms wide in greeting. "Unfortunately, we are currently closed for tours, so I must ask that you leave..."

There was a pause and her arms lowered. "Though, I suspect you did not give the guards a chance to leave...

Miyo shifted slightly and held one hand out, palm to the ceiling, and Mercury slithered up her skin and formed into a ball a couple of inches above her hand. "Perhaps, I shall not give you the opportunity to leave, either."

They may know, or they may not. Mercury was the domain of Miyo, and her exploits, as well as her power, were known among the Shinobi of Sunagakure, and even those beyond.

The others might be clueless, but Kyusa would likely know.

The Mercurial Maiden was not to be trifled with.

[attr="class","mnt"]The man turned to Miyo, the slits of his eyes white as if glazed over, but clearly glaring at her menacingly. He seemed young, cocky, but held himself in a way that would tell Miyo he meant trouble, and he could bring it too. "Thank you for the hospitality, but I didn’t ask if it was open, did I?” He said with a cocked head and a bone chilling smile. He listened closely to her words, but he seemed to not be phased, in fact, he looked almost bored as if the woman in front of him was merely wasting his time.

Kyusu’s men began to form around him, filtering in front other paths of the Iron Bank as they had cleared out the guards. Before Miyo stood nine bandits, all of which had their attention set on the girl with bloodlust. They seemed to vary in rank, but at least two of the shinobi there could easily pose a threat.

The man, who Miyo could likely point out to be the leader of the rag-tag gang, threw his hands up, "I really don’t have time to mess with you and your special sand. I have my own mission to complete, and you’re wasting my time.” It was now that Kyusu looked angry and more serious than before. As his hands lowered, three of the men began to engage. Two of which had stockier builds and looked quite sturdy, the other who stayed a tad farther back seemed toned but was smaller in build.

The two sturdy bandits made their attempts to charge Miyo with surprising speed given their size. One would jump upward and raise his fists into the air and pound down towards Miyo with strength that could likely shatter bone. The other would take the ground to the side and below the first to sweep her feet. The hope would be her feet would be swept out from under her, and then she would be crushed by the fists to the chest.

Summary: Miyo strikes back! Attacking her proves that it could easily become very fatal! Would others dare risk it as their comrades had? Or would they turn tail and run?

Ōnakayama Miyo

The Mercurial Maiden of Sunagakure

A mistake had been made.

Engaging the Mercurial Maiden was not one many lived through, especially if they did not fight all out right away.

Already, the faint shimmer of mercury in the air would be taking its toll. Slowly, but surely, worsening muscle fatigue would set in. Already they might feel a tiny bit of its effect, but soon it would get much worse. Tremors would follow, but not yet, then the mind would falter, concentration and memory would become fleeting, and nausea would become rampant. Lastly, death would claim them - and there was little they could do to stop it stuck deep in the Iron Bank.

Were they to all attack together, it may have been possible to overwhelm her, but attacking in waves merely worked in her favor.

"Special sand..." Miyo shook her head and laughed softly. "If only it were so."

The first foe leapt into the air. A rookie mistake. There was no mobility in the air - or at least extremely limited. She merely held her hand up and that simple ball of mercury rocketed forward at an incredible speed.

It may have only been the size of a softball, but it weighed almost three thousand pounds. A direct hit to the torso would pulverize a human being into oblivion.

The other that came at her went to sweep the leg. A classic technique that could have potentially unbalanced Miyo, were it that easy.

As his leg sought to connect with hers, the mercury coating her body quickly formed into a razor sharp spear that would make short work of flesh and bone. Were he to be conscious after the likely loss of limb, Miyo would swiftly dispatch him with a quick draw and strike of her sword.

"Two..." Miyo commented softly. "How many guards did you kill? I will make sure I repay you in kind."

The top of the massive jar behind Miyo slid off and rattled to the floor as mercury began to flow out over the top. But it wasn't just the gourd, it was all around the room. From every crack and crevice, every nook and cranny, behind, above, and below, it seeped - silvery death.

"It's too late to surrender, I am afraid."

[attr="class","mnt"]Kyusu stared blankly as he watched two of his men easily get taken down by the Suna girl. For a brief moment, he stared at their lifeless corpses and then gave a soft scoff with a subtle laugh. His silvery hues looked up, meeting with Miyo’s. They were like the sun, fiery as they burned into him. "I suppose I’ll have to thank you for ridding me of two useless mouths to feed,” he said with a sideways smirk. True, if they weren’t good enough to handle a simple attack like that, then they didn’t deserve to walk behind him.

"You’re under the impression that I care whether or not these men die here. You’re also under the impression that they care.” Kyusu waited for a response, gauging it. "You see, they’re families are paid for them to be here, to die …here,” he said with a maniacal laughter rising and echoing through the cavernous walls of the bank. "All of the gold you have in here is a promise to their families, you see. All they have to do…is help me get it.”

Kyusu pouted, "Are you really going to deny their families food and shelter? Look at them, they’re starving all by themselves. Think of their children and wives,” while he said this, Kyusu subtly mocked their poverty-stricken existence. It was true, some of them were just skin and bone, following the orders of some mad dog.

Kyusu waved his hand again, and three more of the bandits charged forward without fear for their lives. Two had spears, and a third began to weave handsigns, sending a bolt of lightning surging outward towards Miyo, creating shards of glass out of the sand on the bank floors in its wake. The two with the spears weakly struck outwards towards her.

Summary: Miyo doesn't really need to defeat the incoming enemies, or at least try that hard, because they conveniently suffer friendly fire.

Ōnakayama Miyo

The Mercurial Maiden of Sunagakure

Miyo sighed.

Appeals to the emotion were difficult to get over. There was doubt in the back of her mind. Certainly, it would be better to help people, but crime was not helping people. Stealing what was in the vault was not helping people, especially if they were all dead.

"Unfortunately, it is a promise that will remain unfulfilled," Miyo replied solemnly and leveled her blade at the antagonist. "I will be making a liar out of you."

As the others ran forward, Miyo caught a glance of the handseals being performed. As a raiton user herself, it was not too difficult to pick out what was coming.

"Funny thing about Mercury, you know...

With a wave of her hand, Miyo put up a simple barrier of Mercury, and then the lightning discharged - and went quite literally everywhere.

Anyone caught within the mercury gas floating around the facility would be electrocuted, likely including Kysusu himself.

"It's an excellent conductor of electricity..."

The friendly fire is real, and possibly devastating to Kyusu's allies. If, somehow, those peasants managed to survive, she'd work to swiftly dispatch them with her sword.

If the jutsu-user managed to survive blasting everything in the area, Miyo's barrier would likely absorb the lightning blast before it could threaten her, and then immediately fired a small chunk of the barrier at him, as she had done with the men earlier.

Miyo's mercury had not only been a useful conductor for distributing the technique all over, but it had been in the vicinity long enough now that they'd begin feeling the effects, and likely noticing them, too.

Muscle fatigue, like they had just run a marathon, and uncontrollable tremors are just beginning.

[attr="class","mnt"]Kysusu huffed sarcastically. Miyo didn’t seem to be taking the bait. The man was by nature quite lazy, hinted by him getting others to consistently do his work for him. While he wasn’t lazy, he was smart. Brilliant, in fact. He knew very well what Miyo’s specialty was. He didn’t care if his team lived or died. They were exposable. If anything, they proved to be good bait, and that was something that the girl seemed to fall for. The man’s eyes would furrow with a cock of his head as the lightning would hit the Oonakayama with a disturbing lack of effort.

All the women had done was wave her hand as she spoke. The lightning attack would strike Miyo with enough force to likely cause major burns across her body and an immense amount of pain. Kyusu would laugh abruptly, slapping his staff into the ground as he would bend over slightly. He would allow only for a moment. Just what was she playing at? He’d heard stories, but this wasn’t any amount of threat as far as he could see right away.

The man would allow Miyo no time to recover and would slam his arms into the ground and from its lava would begin to pour and surge towards her in a violent wave. It would spit as it rolled forward, threatening to slap Miyo with further burns.

Summary: Write them here! Box will expand downwards with words.

Ōnakayama Miyo

The Mercurial Maiden of Sunagakure

Miyo seemed surprised for the briefest of moments when her technique didn't active and the lightning bolt bypassed her defenses. Sure enough, it struck her square in the chest and nearly bent her over backwards, but the kunoichi caught herself. As the flash from the lightning cleared, mercury dripped from her body as her armor dissolved temporarily in the wake of the electrical charge.

Unfamiliar electricity was a negative for her. Her own mattered little, but when it was slung back at her it could disrupt her jiton control. Either way, the brunt of the lightning bolt had been disrupted, and Miyo remained capable of fighting on. Her armor even began repairing itself - though it wouldn't be usable immediately.

She was not given any time to do much. Even recovering from the attack she failed to defend against took time, but her mercury had flown free of the gourd - or at least a great deal had, as more was still pouring out. As soon as he activated his technique, Miyo formed hand seals of her own in rapid succession and that mercury that gathered around her surged forward to meet the lava.

In the end, her mercury would likely falter were it a matter of a sustained contest, but even if that were molten rock, her mercury was by far heavier and the impact between the two would likely be in her favor. It could, with a little luck, even turn his own lava back on him.

It was enough to keep her alive for the moment, but a portion of her mercury was forcefully converted to gas by the extreme heat. She could turn it back if she needed to, but for now it would be fine.
