LITTLE TOTA

The boy eagerly awaited the arrival of the guest instructor while sitting at his desk. Tota could barely stay in his chair as he buzzed with energy and excitement; lately nothing had interested the young academy student more than medical training. As he looked around the room, Tota could see he was the youngest of the cohort and stuck out like a sore thumb amidst the older taller students. This didn't surprise Tota as he often found himself the youngest among those training to become iryo-nin.

He slowly calmed himself down, until the new instructor entered the room which caused the young boy to explode in anticipation for the class to begin. Tota's eyes widened as he realised it was the same silver haired short boy from before, from the emergency room. Jumping up from his chair, Tota quickly bowed to the entering jounin. Once he had shown the formal platitude, Tota returned to his seat and patiently waited for the teacher to be ready.

As Asuka begun to introduce themselves and explain the course material, Tota listened attentively. When they asked if anyone had questions, Tota lifted his hand. However the boy quickly realised he wasn't visable over the sea of other students to his own dismay.

The hospital was far more busy than usual, today. Asuka almost wanted to cancel the class he’d been scheduled to teach, but given it was a rare jounin-taught crash course, these people wouldn’t be getting another chance to learn the things he was teaching today for quite some time. He didn’t want to let these people down, after all, field medicine saved countless lives! It was a vital skill for any shinobi, and incredibly useful for the few civilians who attended his classes as well. No, he wouldn’t cancel the class, no matter how busy.

That said, he needed to arrive in the room being used for the course on time. The trip was quick, the room relatively easy to find for the sake of the younger students who were attending this particular course. He still wasn’t entirely used to teaching yet, but he felt as though he was comfortable enough to teach a subject he was well versed in. After all, it was largely his field medicine capabilities that had earned him his promotion to chuunin, and helped along his jounin promotion. Striding into the room, he took his place at the front, noting the class was completely packed as well. There were so many students! It was good that people were taking more of an interest in medicine.

”Welcome to Field Medicine 101. I will be your instructor for the duration of this course, you may call me Asuka-sensei. Throughout this course I will teach you the basics of how to treat injuries in the field without using chakra. Due to the delicate nature of how this is handled, you will largely be working with dummies to begin with, though all demonstrations will be done on myself. Are there any questions before we begin today’s lesson?”

Observing his class, Asuka noticed very few hands raised. However, at his height, he could hardly see everyone in the packed classroom, and had to start moving between the rows of desks to better see who needed to know something. It was then that he saw a child. Young, short, and likely unable to see anything over the sea of other students. Tilting his head, he pointed to somebody in the front row. ”You there, in the front row! Switch seats with this boy, please, he can’t see over everybody else. I won’t have someone fail my class because of something as easily prevented as not being able to see me working.”

Then, he noticed the child seemed to have a question for him, returning to the front of the room. The person he’d asked to switch desks with the child tried to grumble, but a warning look from the jounin was enough to see them complying. Nobody in this classroom wanted to be punished and potentially miss something. Now, pointing at the child, he allowed for him to ask his question. ”What is your name? Please ask your question, and after that, we may begin.” That said, Asuka watched carefully, noting how everyone in the classroom seemed to stare at him. He’d have to get used to that. Teaching a small team of genin was vastly different from teaching a whole class of aspiring medics.
