The salary from academy was great, but Kap was a bit of a busy body. Why not earn a little extra cash on the side? The genin seemed to be avoiding taking the work here and it needed to get done. The office said something about sending someone to back him up if they could.

The job was basically just to help pick up some trash. The only thing that made it mildly dangerous was that it was in the Himin Machi slums. Having walked the streets of Hidaka on a long term security post when he was a genin, Kap felt like he was perfectly in his element here.

The rain beat down on his umbrella as he walked alongside a horse drawn wagon that was partially filled with rubbish. The person driving the carriage wore a dark green rain coat that was slicked with water, they were an older man with a rather large nose that rested on the pillow of a thick grey moustache. They drove the cart forward slowly, eyes forward, an uncompromising ferryman of the underworld.

His immediate surroundings featured a condemned building that had been fenced off, bricks on the left side had collapsed in. The fence had been clipped open in several places and he could see squatters inside of it. He recalled that he was not to deal with such things on this mission, but he did see mounds of garbage laying in the yard behind the fence.

Tapping the side of the cart, Kap spoke to the driver, "Wait here, friend.”

The driver nodded to him, and the horse came to a halt.

Kap squeezed between the spokes of the fence and looked around. He wondered if backup would arrive to help him out.

He kept the umbrella in hand and pushed chakra from his finger tips out of the other, grabbing on to pieces of trash. An old lamp and a few bottles were the first things that he pulled into the air, hoisting them over the fence and placing them into the cart. He repeated the process several more times, taking an old teddy bear with its eyes chewed off and stuffing coming out of its head and discarding it as well as a bag full of cans.

There were a few people peering at him through the windows of the condemned building. He watched them for a moment and waved at them before he turned back around and made his way out of the fenced in area. It wasn’t his job today to kick squatters out of old buildings, so he wasn’t going to make a fuss out of it.

He made his way back to the side of the driver and gave the man a thumbs up. "Let’s press forward, friend,” Kap said. The old man whipped the reigns and the cart began to move forward on the street again.

[attr="class","chikaText"]Chikap and the trash coach driver made there way further down the streets of the slums. On occasion, the chunin would spot a bottle or odd scraps of paper and he’d effortlessly flick them into the bin using puppet strings. At one point there was a time he had to place his umbrella on the coach and use both of his hands to lift up a large piece of scrap metal that was laying on a narrow road blocking their way. As he pushed it into the back, he heard footsteps coming out of the alleyways.

It was a group of guys with grime on their faces in old patchwork jackets. The one that spoke must have been in his forties and had an old top hat that had a crinkled crease along the side that caused it to droop to the right. The top of the hat was coming up off its seams, causing it to flop as he moved.

"Hey there, did you know this here is a toll road?” the man asked. He had one hand planted in his jacket.
Chikap waved his hand as he picked up his umbrella, "Oh, well we had no idea. That’s okay though, we are city workers, so by law we are exempt from paying any toll since we are performing a public service. In fact, tolls and taxes pay for services like these.”

The man’s mouth opened slightly agape, and he looked over at the other three ruffians who had joined him…

Chikap grinned and retracted his umbrella, letting the rain hit his head. He smiled and used his free hand to lift one of the bottles out of the trash can and broke it over the head of one of the men to the left. It shattered and a bit of blood spilled from his forehead and onto the roadway while the man held at his eyes. The other three ran towards Chikap, who swatted at a younger man on the right with his umbrella while he peddled back.

The leader with the top hat took a swing at him, landing a good hit on Kap’s cheek. The chunin took the blow well, and returned a knee to his gut.

"He used chakra,” the last person said, who didn’t approach. "Let’s get outta here,” they said as he turned and ran into one of the alleyways. Chikap smiled and popped the umbrella back out. He tapped on the shoulder of the driver again, who had been staring eyes forward the whole time. The leader crawled along the road and stood up, pushing into the alleyway. It wasn’t Kap’s job to arrest them, so he’d leave them be.

After the muggers departed in shame, Kap and his trash man friend continued down the street until they came to an alleyway that was piled with garbage. There wasn’t anyone around, and it looked like even with puppet strings that Kap had his work cut out for him for the next few hours. He inspected the site and brought his hand to his chin. A smile curled onto his face as he thought of something wicked.

"Hey, back the cart up for me and fact the back of the hatch this way,” he said pointing at a specific point on the alley. Then he used his thumb to approximate distances. Afterwards, he hopped up onto front of the carriage and stood next to the driver, who looked at him and huffed in disapproval.

"Check this out, this is going to be awesome!” Kap said. He formed a hand seal and three owls appeared in front of him, one larger with white feathers, another slightly smaller with brown, and the smallest featuring a pale underbelly with a darker back. He used his hands to angle the puppets into a triangular formation and then quickly brought his hands together to make a seal, and the puppets froze in place. "Sanbō Kyūka!”

Triangulated between the three puppets, the jutsu began to form a vacuum between them. Throughout the alleyway bits of garbage were picked up and show into the wagon behind him. Thanks to a lot of practice and committing positionings to memory he had a good working knowledge of the jutsu and how to optimize it to complete the task. If it hadn’t been a closed alleyway, it wouldn’t have been safe to use.

The entire trashed contents of the alleyway from bottles, loose boxes, piles of rubbish, and more started flying through the triangular formation of the jutsu and fell into the cart. He only kept the jutsu running for a few moments before closing the seal for the sake of safety. It did mean that a lot of the trash didn’t make it into the cart and instead fell onto the ground in front of it, but what was left he was able to easily pick up with his strings after he put his puppets away. As he did so a terrified looking cat ran out from one of the boxes that was furthest away from where the seal was made. It scrambled off out of the alleyway.

"Ooh I should have checked for cats,” he said touching his chin. "Lucky that it didn’t get close or that could have been a bad day for them.”

Chikap continued to make his way across the slums and picked up little bits of trash along the way. He was a bit bored with the mission, wishing that the muggers had given him a bit more of a challenge. He notice that the cart started to turn around unexpectedly and he looked at the driver with a bit of confusion.

"Hey, why are we going back for?” Chikap asked.

The driver glanced at him and sighed, ever the man of few words. This time, he actually responded to Chikap with a coarse voice,

"Wagon is full, gotta go dump it,” he explained.

Chikap looked at him. It would be terribly inconvenient to walk all the way to the dump and back when they were getting pretty close to being done with the general clean up. He tapped at his chin for a moment and then a grin crossed his face.

"Hold the cart, I’ve got an idea,” he said. The driver looked at him, sighed and held the reigns to bring it to a halt.

Chikap gathered the blank scrolls that he had and started drawing seals on them. He placed each of the three scrolls down and sealed as much trash as he could I them. Given they were somewhat small, it only put a relatively small dent in the heap, so he unsealed Sougya, the small owl puppet, and used the bigger scroll to seal off a larger mound of the trash. He placed the puppet on his shoulder and walked up to the driver.

"There we go, there is room for more now,” he said.

The driver looked back and shrugged. "Works for me.”

Chikap laughed. "I’m going to put in a word about trying to get you all a specialist to help seal up garbage, it’d probably save the city a lot of money on waste management, yea?”

The driver scowled at him. Chikap didn’t seem to take notice, and on they went.

The next location that Chikap came to was a corner of the slums where a lot of cats were gathered. It was close to the lakeside and there was a fishery nearby, and people had made a bad habit of chucking their fish remains into an alleyway. This one wasn’t going to be doable with a jutsu like the other alleyway that was mostly empty. He didn’t want to hurt any animals and there was foot traffic around the other end of the alley so he couldn’t let loose. He quenched his nose shut to avoid taking in the smell.

In order to clean it up this time, he pulled a shovel that was hitched between the coach and trailer of the wagon. It was an iron snow shovel with a black plastic handle. He probably could have picked it up with a string but he decided that it would be better to use his hands because it would be awkward to shovel here. He began moving down the alleyway and scooping up piles of rotting fish guts and bones. The cats began to hiss at him in disapproval, some arched their backs and held their ground while others scurried away from him.

"Sorry, all!” Chikap said to the cats.

"But this is my alley!” Chikap said to the cats that were standing their ground. A fresh genin might have struggled with a pack of feral fish mongers, but the chunin showed no fear. He pushed forward towards the first cat and it realized that he wasn’t messing around and it turned tail and ran. He scooped up a big pile of old fish and slung it back into the cart.

The largest fat cat of the cat pack leapt towards him in an attempt to scratch him, but Chikap raised up a hand and used a puppet string to grab it by the scruff behind its neck.

"Mooow,” the cat said. Its whole demeanor changed from feral to kitten. Kap gently drifted it away from the pile and across the street and set it down. Then he rapidly started shoveling more as the rest of the cats left the area I the direction of the port.

The rest of the cleanup of the fish was done in short order. There was still a lingering smell.

"Let’s get going back to the dump now, I think we’ve got this job under wraps,” he told the driver with a smile on his face.

The rest of Chikap’s mission involved a long trek from the slums to get back to a dump site. He took a look at the area as he passed by. It was still the same place, but it did look a lot cleaner than it did when he had arrived. He hoped that something could be done to really turn the lives of the people living here around. Their was still graffiti, and he could see that people had already discarded a few items here and there where he knew that he had been. It was going to take more than just this clean up to really turn things around.

He decided that he’d check and see if there was more that he could do to help out around the area. He knew that there was some sort of initiative going to try to improve things in the city. It might be genin’s work, but taking the jobs on alone or with just another person or two paid decent money for his hobbies. He was already excited to go and collect the pay from the office, he was going to head straight to the market once the ryo was in his hands.
