A loser like you ain't got no guts!

With the girls training regime now having been somewhat completed with the sage it was now time for her to begin her actual trail. During this time Taki was told to return home whilst the girl completed her trails as she was not allowed to give her any further instruction on how to survive.

This was now her trail and Taki could only hope for the best for the young woman. "Good luck kid." the girl would state giving one last word of parting advice as she left her be. It was the early morning hours of the day the sun had only just begun to rise and Taki was no where to be found, possibly safe within the hallowed walls of her own sanctuary; in reality however she stood alongside the gorillas watching from within the trees, it was just the girl and the gorilla’s now who would be watching and observing.

"You know you aren't allowed to help her any further." Fudo would state. "I know...doesn't mean I can't take notes, I want your pointas foist hand." she'd say. "If I have to give you any then it means you didn't do your job." he'd retort. "I'm still new at dis, I didn't loin awl of dis stuff in a day."

She was in their world now and they would be watching closely. For the most part nothing was out of the ordinary all she needed to do was survive for the next 5 days. The sounds of chirping birds could be heard in the environment potentially waking the girl up to the sounds of the morning.

Upon waking the first thing the girl might notice would be the slight overcast in the sky nothing too worrisome but something she ought to consider. In addition the night hadn't been the kindest meaning she would more than likely need to tend to her camp. but would also need too forage for food. All of these things needed to be done in some manner or fashion but each one would take time and there were benefits and consequences for doing either, but the choice she made was up to her.

However there is one thing that the girl was forewarned about by her master before she had left her and that to never travel to the western forest ruins for only a demon awaited her there but, with no compass and the forest being a big place it was easy to get lost and Nobunaga was not kind to travelers.

Thankfully however under the eyes of the apes she was in good hands should any harm befall her, but should they need to intervene for any reason the task would've been deemed a failure, unless Nobunaga appeared of course.

Yuki groaned and rolled over as the birdsong dragged her to wakefulness, squinting as she cracked open her eyes and squirmed out into the sunlight. It wasn't as bright as it should be. Clouds? Probably. That could mean rain. Grumbling, Yuki added that to her mental list of chores.

Reinforce the shelter in case of rain.
Wash.
Fetch water.
Find food.
Sleep.
Repeat.

She reviewed the thoughts, then mentally crammed "train" in after finding food. She wasn't about to slack off, even in the forest all by herself.

First, though, the shelter. She needed big leaves she could shingle onto the top later of the shelter in case of rain, and another layer of bushy sticks she could use to hold them against the rest of the shelter's roof. So that was where she started.

Finding a sturdy vine, she doubled it onto itself, with enough length to comfortably completely circle the width, and used it to shimmy up a tree with big, flat leaves a ways up the trunk. When she was high enough, she brought the ends together and held the loop in one hand, using her kunai to hack some of the big leaves off, letting them fall to the ground below, and shimmying back down once she had a generous collection. Then, it was relatively simple to stack the leaves over the shelter, and another layer of brush to keep them in place.

"There. Oughtta stay dry, at least. But man am I thirsty now. Good time to go wash up and get a drink. Though... hm. Am I gonna go all the way to the falls every time I need a drink..?"

Pondering, she started searching the area around the camp, looking for a hollow stump, stone, or something else that might be able to hold water if she brought it back somehow.

As this went on the apes would look over the young girl to track her progress, she took the time to make her shelter however the clouds didn’t seem to spare her and as such the rain began to fall at first it seemed rather calm but then quickly began a hefty downpour thankfully due to the way that the girl had constructed her shelter it managed to hold up.

As this all went on the morning would fade and soon become the early afternoon but the rain leaving a moisture around that would produce a light fog that faded after a few moments. She still hadn't eaten and seemed to be foraging for water as she looked around she'd find a few small rocks but her best source of it was to either craft a water catcher out of wood and boil it out with a fire or to head to the watering hole. Both options took time but one took less time than the other, and there was no guarantee it'd rain anytime soon but setting it up could catch some of the excess left behind in the trees.

Should she decide to make her way down to the waterfall she'd spot a bevy of animals like gazelle's, deer and perhaps even a larger best like a rhino but she might want to be quick as a predator may be lurking around the corner with so much prey around to feed from. And may also encounter another familiar face who was also doing her own training, too high away from her own eyes.

    OOC Note(s):

It was all a matter of prioritizing. She could last a while without food. Last much less time without water. And still less time without shelter. So she'd taken things in order of urgency. And with shelter sufficient to survive the rain, she could focus on finding ways to keep water around.

Eventually, making a water catcher seemed the best way to proceed. She found the stump of a downed tree, and carved out the softer wood on the inside, finding some large leaves she could use to layer against the stump's interior, using their natural bend to keep their ends up towards the top of the stump, while pinning the overlapped bases into the tree stump's bottom with a sharpened twig. Then it was off to the water hole- and along the way, she stumbled into what looked like the scene of a massacre.

It took her a few moments to discern that the splattered red remnants were actually smashed open watermelon pulp, and her eyes widened. Something had eaten most of them, smashing them to pieces- but maybe she could find one that was intact? The hunt took more than a few minutes of sifting through smashed rind and pulped insides, but she found a green watermelon, largish but not quite ripe.

    That was just fine!

Yuki hooted in excitement and dug a hole into the melon, carving away the rind in a hole big enough she could get her fist in- and then she started to empty it, eating handful after handful with a faint grimace at the slightly sour, unripe fruit. Still, it was food- and once she was done, she scraped out the insides with her fingers thoroughly, leaving her with an empty shell of a melon that she hefted and carried along to the waterbanks. And once there, far below the watchful eye of her training mentor, she filled the empty melon and started the long process of hauling it back to her camp.

She repeated the trip twice- two runs to fill the catcher, and another to refill the melon, which she carried back and set on top of the stump like a lid, cramming a broad leaf into the melon to seal it off after drinking her fill. That was a lot of water- probably enough for a couple days- which meant she could stick to hunting for a few days.

Her eyes flicked up towards the canopy, trying to puzzle out if there was still time to hunt tonight...

The girl had seemingly come at a rough time where the animals seemed to be in the midst of a fracas but thankfully she was spared from it. Using a little bit of ingenuity the youth would grab hold of some melons and enjoy a fruity feast, however not washing it might leave her with a bit of an upset stomach later, but that was a problem for then and not now.

The girl would make two trips but might find herself pestered by some birds that wanted to snatch the unripened fruit from her and would make it home with some water but with maybe a little less than she would’ve liked due to the animalistic interference.

As she made her way home she’d taken a lot of time to do so it was about halfway through the afternoon but there was still sunlight that she could use the time to hunt but it would be sunset soon and getting to her destination would cause her to lose what little sunlight she had left.

As this went on another Ape, Iwata silently takes a gander at her activities, his beady yellow eyes and excitable frame looking down on her. "She’s doing well so far, she seems to be adequatly equipped to scavange but how will she handle the hunt.” the smaller ape would say looking towards her as she returned to her campsite.

      *grrrrrgl*

"Bleugh. Are you not supposedta eat unripened melons?" Yuki muttered to herself, rubbing her stomach for a moment as she decided for herself she had plenty of time to get back out and find some proper food. "You better shut up down there, I gotta go hunting and I can't have you glorping and grumbling warnings to dinner." Nobody was listening, of course- at least she didn't think so- but it made her feel better to at least mutter to something than stay entirely silent all by herself.

She took her time with the next step- hunting not for food, but for wood. For a sapling, one long enough and thick enough to be used for a spear. Once she found either a sapling or a branch of the roughly correct length and thickness, she used her kunai to score it to prepare it for cutting, first carving a deep furrow around each "end" of the spear she planned to make, then spiking her kunai into the furrow from three directions before digging it in from the fourth direction and whacking it deeper with whatever rock or heavy branch she could find.

Once she'd separated her spear shaft, she split one end at the middle, just a bit at the end, so she could fit the ringed handle of her kunai into it, leaving a bit of the loop at the hilt poking out on either side. Then, she used some wire from her pouch- usually used for controlling shuriken mid-flight- and looped one wire through one side of the ring, around the haft of the spear two full loops, and then down through the other side of the ring, knotting the wires together and holding it down and taut against the haft of the spear. Then it was simple enough to wind another longer bit of wire around the spear haft from just below the ring, trapping the original wire against the spear's haft to secure the spearpoint. With the original stopping it from moving forward or sideways, and the second wire holding the shaft tightly together and preventing it from pushing back into the haft, she had a very serviceable spear- and a rumbling belly.

"Euf. I can't really just- not go hunting. If I start feeling worse, I'll want to have food already here that I can just cook."
She reassured herself- and hefted her makeshift spear as she headed out back towards the water hole, hopeful there might be something she could stalk or run down!

With the girl taking her time to seek out a tree a good amount of time had been exhausted and as she made her way towards the watering hole she’d spot a few animals: a deer, a zebra and a large rhinoceros with a hawk flying high overhead.

They’d hadn’t seen her presence yet, giving her time to survey each animal. The deer was small but lean. It moved rather fast but was slightly harder to hit due to its frame, it would make for a good meal and last about 2 days. Next was the zebra which was on the older side making it slower than the deer but this wasn’t evident just by looking at it.

Like the deer it’d be easy to cook but due to its age wouldn't last nearly as long. Finally the rhino, which was the slowest of the 3, It wouldn't taste good and might even take longer to cook but in exchange would last for a while due its size.

She had all the time in the world to take her shot but it all depended on which one she’d take would determine how her night would go and it wasn’t going to be easy. Whilst she made her way there little Aki Aki would look on at the animals as he too drank from the watering hole obscured by the larger creatures.

It wasn't too late to hunt, but that didn't mean that making arrangements for her shelter to survive the storms, and for her to stay watered, hadn't been time consuming. Both had taken a great deal more time than it would have taken for her to resolve those issues with simple jutsus and gear. Now, though, she was properly armed, and it was time to arrange for her meals for a time.

The reality of it all was sinking in. Even after she got her quarry hunted, she'd have to dress it. Clean it. That she could do here but she'd stil have to haul the majority of the animal back to her camp. She'd probably need to hang the carcass off the ground to prevent critters from taking or spoiling the meat. She really did have her work cut out for her, didn't she?

The deer was gonna be her target. The rhino might have made better eating for longer, but their hide was notoriously thick, and she wasn't sure she could carry much more than the deer back anyway. She worked her way closer as quietly and patiently as she could- and then bolted at it, spear ready to throw, chasing it to drastically improve the predictability of its movements. With her impressive speed, it couldn't easily outpace her, and all she had to do was chase it towards an obstacle- and be prepared to hurl her spear when it broke left or right- presenting her with its profile, her best chance for a shot, and a predictable time to throw!

The girl made her choice and choose to go after the Deer, the Rhino and the Zebra seeing her would flee running along her path but not enough to distract her. The Deer would flee into the forest as the spear wielding woman chased after it, taking her further and further into the forest.

The deer seemed to panic for its life as it was on the run, the environment would get significantly more tumultuous, heading into a forest, coated with vines and that the deer seemed to make its way towards effortlessly a testament to how well it knows it's home. If the girl managed to keep up without tire or getting lost in the forest she'd find herself coming out into a rather familiar grassy plain which if she remembered was quite a distance away from her campsite.

But, as the deer kept going the girl had a prime opportunity to get her shot in, she was gaining on it but it was a rather nimble creature and unless the shot was perfectly placed or she found a way to impede it's movement it'd be a tough shot to take. She needed to think fast however, the sun was still in the process of setting and if she didn't take him down quickly she may just be left to travel in the dark, and with the distance she had left to travel she'd need all the sunlight she could get.

It was SO HARD not to resort to using her chakra in moments like this. She KNEW she could take down the deer if she'd created some shuriken and controlled them, but it was against the rules of her test and she was trying hard not to let herself get frustrated!

As she ran, Yuki spotted a fist size rock in a bare patch of grass and scooped it up as she shot past it, hefting it and hurling it just to the right of the deer, close enough to trigger a panic dodge but not so close to center that she couldn't predict how it'd move.

As the deer bucked to the side, she hurled her spear, imagining the line through the deer's body from shoulder to shoulder, aiming to spear it through the vitals before it could land and pivot its angle to a less damaging strike instead! Either way, she kept running, well aware she'd need to reclaim her spear, either from the ground or the deer, and it wasn't time to let up just yet! She kept hr feet moving, kept on the trail of the deer, and looked for any additional items she might be able to scoop up and hurl just in case that turned out to be necessary!

As the girl kept moving through the forest the deer would run as quickly as it could towards its destination moving it’s hind legs swiftly as its heart raced while it sprinted for its life. However in a matter of moments the girl would toss her spear and It went through its chest with a wet crunch as it pierced through the bone and punctured an organ.

It fell to the ground on it’s legs and would kick its legs as it suffered through the pain and blood would violently spurt from it with each thrash of it’s body, a heart wrenching sight. And while it would eventually die the creature would be forced to suffer with the agony of pain while it waited to pass away, an unfortunate circumstance if she wanted to bring it back she’d need to put the creature out of it’s misery. An unfortunate circumstance but a crucial one nonetheless.

If she did so she’d then be able to take the creature back home but there was a large looming cloud that seemed to be hovering overhead that could potentially spoil her food if she didn’t scurry home quickly enough. But before that she’d need to worry about the pressing issue of the poor creature before her that seemed to be writhing on the ground labored breathing as it began to weaken as more blood began to form around the wound.

Yuki cheered with excitement as she took down the deer, and ran forward to collect her prize and retrieve her spear- only to find the deer squirming and flailing, making the absolutely most awful noises as it slowly bled out. Color fled her face as she recoiled. This wasn't the clean kill she could be proud of. It was in pain, suffering, because her throw was off. This- this was her fault.

"Oh no, I'm- I'm sorry, Deer-san! Here, I'll- oh, this is awful, I'll make this quick, I'm so sorry!" She cried as she hurried closer from its back to avoid its feet, picking her moment and holding her breath as she wrenched the spear free and took a split second to aim- before plunging the spear through its eye into its brain to end it as quickly and surely as she could possibly manage, trying not to choke or cry at having put it in so much pain. It had just been trying to live, and while she needed something to eat- it hadn't needed to be so painful...

Pulling the spear free, she tried not to look into the empty eye socket as she pulled the spear free with a squelch, strapping it to the deer's spine with some extra wire before she got to work transporting it home and doing her damnedest to beat the cloud there so she could skin and clean the deer without having to work with wet, smelly pelt on top of entrail smells.

Either way, she'd get back soon enough- and then started to try to figure out how to eat the deer with no fire surviving the rain.

At least her rain catcher would be full.
