… Was she whispering something? He wasn’t 100% sure what he heard, but he quickly let it slide away from his memory as Ahma apparently succeeded in manifesting a Kunai between her hands again. Despite having implemented a new handseal, the Jutsu still worked… yeaaaaaaaaah, Kojirou remembered it now! Sometimes, altering handseals could directly affect the properties of known Jutsus, and a Jutsu such as the manifestation of a Crystal Kunai appeared to benefit from a handseal that many projectile Jutsus made use of.

It was all coming together now… great! He was eternally grateful to have remembered that from the Academy.

"Huh…” Kojirou let out in mild surprise at the notion. She clearly said out loud ‘Walk’, and he heard it… did she talk to him, then? Like… okay, sure, he could walk. He helped himself and walked forward a bit, but he quickly jolted back to his previous position once Ahma landed on the floor again. A bit too close there, he could’ve gotten hurt… but she just said ‘Walk’, so what was that about?

Clearly perplexed by the misunderstanding, Kojirou was taken aback in quick succession by her grateful embrace. It appeared that his advice had really helped her out a lot… so this was what it felt like to be a Sensei. He could definitely get used to this, and his reddened face made that loud and clear. "N-No problem, Ahma… hihihi,” he gently giggled, glad to know that she didn’t have to be stuck on that Jutsu any longer. Five hours on a row sounded like a challenge – especially when training all alone.

"… Now that I think about it,” the swordsman spoke up once more, drawing his katana out completely with just his thumb before holding its handle with his right hand, "Could you throw more of those Crystal Kunais towards me? I wanna cut through them, and I have a feeling that a naked sword won’t be enough… so I’ll channel some chakra through mine.” It was like an extension of Kizumi-sama’s help with his ability to channel chakra through weapons, an ability that continued to invigorate him.

At first, he’d like to just see how far he’d come with being able to channel chakra through his katana… or more precisely, if he still could. Therefore, he tightened the grip on its handle and took a deep breath – through the nostrils, not the mouth, and made sure to take a strong inhalation so as to train his lungs as well. It helped him a lot with focusing chakra.

Once he got into that ‘vibe’, the blade of his katana began to glow up in the dark cave. A pleasant, orange fade turned brighter over a dozen seconds later, until Kojirou was confident in the result. "Okay, I’m ready… you can start with three Kunais, if you’re still able to.”

It amused her a little when Kojirō mistook her sutra as a order for him to move. Landing back on the ground after retrieving said Kunai made him jolt back, it became very apparent to her that her clan jutsus and those of shinobi operated much differently than the other but the fact she was also learning how to have her Ninshu interact with Chakra in a similar manner made cross matching so much easier. Her words were true, both the duration and her gratitude. Her hug clearly flustered him when she showed him gratitude which made her wonder if he was comfortable. Hell, neither was she but joy overridden her actions.

He did have a request and once he gave it to her, she simply nodded in affirmation before raising a finger. "No problem, Kojirō-san. I do have to warn you though that if I did this jutsu right, these Kunai are a bit more durable than average Kunai, so yeah, please don't use a basic sword, both for your safety and my concern." Ahma stated as she grabbed the four kunais thrown earlier, he just needed three right now but if she were to make more right now, it would really make her tired. She wasn't a pool of chakra, she was just better at only using exactly what she needed. She placed one of the crystalline kunai on the ground and held three in her hand, waiting for his command.

She watched as his blade lit up like an orangish lightbulb. Then, the glow intensified and gave proper light a kin to a well lit room and her features became clear to Kojirō likewise, his became more viewable to her. The odd tattoos he had was something she didn't notice earlier, yet as he pronounced himself ready, her eyes focused more on him and her grip on the kunai's became that of a proper fighter. "Hajime! (Start)" It was the only proper thing to get him to ready himself. Right after declaring to start, she hurled all three kunais at him. He didn't specify one by one or all of them, so she hoped his sword was good for something.

Ahma learned her 'Heavenly Gift' from the clan's teachings. Her gift affects her Ninjutsu, allowing her to wield unique, powerful, neigh-impossible to replicate elemental enhancements to her elemental ninjutsu. Her Heavenly Gift also deviates from enhancing all her basic elements to focusing on two, Fūton and Doton. What this means is that inherently, Ahma's doton jutsus can act as a minuscule seismic sense when in active use. Her Fūton becomes harder to see, while it still has a translucent color when applicable, the jutsu overall comes out faster compared to other non-SA-enhanced ninjutsu specialists.

Ahma's Seismic Sense is not a true dedicated sensing ability but instead, a passive effect/bonus of a Doton Jutsu, thus, each Doton Jutsu has this added benefit only when the Doton jutsu is in active use. Not being dedicated nor is it is it fully powerful, the ranges are extremely weak, only serving more as accuracy than true sensing.

Each range* is divided by rank of the Jutsu and behaves conversely than expected. This is due to the concentration of higher ranking jutsus require. This Seismic Sense reads vibrations on the ground and thus cannot sense those above ground or on water.

[Honō Kojirou]

A bit more durable, huh… that was better! That meant that there was a bigger chance for them to bounce away… but that would ruin the purpose of this practice. He wanted to see if he was skilled enough with channeling chakra through his katana to cut through the kunais, not just deflect them. Either way, this katana… this chakra-charged katana that looked like it was at the verge of melting… was anything but basic.

The light from his sword did give him a much better view of her… she didn’t look much older than himself. Yet, he could’ve sworn that she was… n-never mind that.

Her grip on the kunais became clear to him that she was ready to throw them. Moving his katana to his left was the first move, readying it for a diagonal slash upwards. And with her declaration, his heart sped up, pumping blood throughout his entire body… the flow of chakra could be explained as something similar. His blade kept glowing up, and the reflections of the three kunais made their positions easy for him to spot.

Mirror Blade… a Bukijutsu meant to reflect small projectiles back at the casters. Kojirou heard sharp, sizzling burns upon contacting the crystal kunais, but the sound was still on. It kept sizzling through, crystal molecules separated by the glowing metal, until the three kunais were split in half.

With how he cut them, the parts kept spinning in the air until they dug into the ground below, revealing that the space where they were cut were still glowing hot like wooden embers. "I… I meant to deflect them somewhere else, not… I-I guess this works, too.” Some could say that he failed, successfully.

"T-That’s such a lethal Bukijutsu… I don’t know if I’ll need to go that far,” he began mumbling in thoughts from the back of his head making their way to the front, "I’ve heard that the Exams were rough, but… hey, have you ever participated in the Chūnin Exams? Or… well… you ever had the chance to, maybe?”

Kojirou didn't sound as jolly as earlier. If anything, he sounded worried. A little saddened, even.

I wish you would die

The intermingling and twinkling of lights of lava and her crystals was warm, unique. A sight she called amazing and an honor for her to see. The boy readied himself, holding the blade down to his side. Ahma had faith that these weren't unbreakable and that the boy had enough training to do what he needed. She threw the kunai harder and faster than she realized, another aspect he didn't specify. The flew fast at him and all the boy did was stand there. Please do something. The Nuke thought as she brought her hands together in front of her chest, hoping that she could remotely make the crystals break.

To her pleasant surprise, it wasn't necessary. Kojirō was able to slash through them all, redirecting them to opposite sides of himself. Ahma simply gave a soft smile as she noted the lava that remained on the split kunais. He stated he meant to deflect them, not slice through them and Ahma simply tilted her head. "Uhhhh..." It was the only noise she made as she pointed at his sword. She heard him mutter about the unnecessary and came to think he meant the power. It was a bit odd to her, why would it be unnecessary if it worked out? Ahma then raised her head at his question before looking to the side, anger in her eyes yet they were brimmed with water building up.

"My father did but he wished he hadn't. He faced hardships and challenges that made him wish for death... he lost loved ones and could've lost himself. The Chūnin Exams are meant to be rough, to test shinobi if they have the team skills, problem-solving, and combat prowess to show they are ready to carry out a village's wishes, be it missions, trade, or war. It tests if you have the conviction to act with no questions, kill with no hesitation, and remain loyal to a cause claimed bigger yet far more superficial than yourself. But no, I never been in one, I'm not a Kunoichi. I have no home, my home was my family and shinobi killed the only family I had left." Ahma walked closer to the wall of the cave they were in and reached out her hand.

She looked back at Kojirō before closing her eyes and touching the wall. Crystals black as the pupils in her eyes stretched further and further out. Slowly turning the cavern of rock into one of black crystals. "Shinobi bastardize children into tools and train these tools to be their sharpest so they can be USD however the please, for money, narcotics, ideals, pleasure, pain... murder." As Ahma spoke, the ground above where Koji came from broke apart from the crystals and turned to dust as they fell. The light of day showing the darkness and light in the shared cave.

"Remember how you stated you didn't know if it was an exception? The shinobi system is very much adults taking children away from being children, training them how to fight, sending them to see if they're ready, and then using them for their pervasive use. No, your village is sending you to Kuwana, you are a shinobi, your village has the system, so I too hate it. But, I don't hate you, you still have a chance to save your life, to pursue your own dreams. Right now, you're living someone else's. Kojirō-san... I don't approve of it but you gave me the reason. I understand your choice and as much as it hurts, you're free to go. I want you to go be yourself... go be a human... go love; go feel; go somewhere. Anywhere but Kuwana, I kinda like talking to you. But, you don't have to listen to me. If you do go to Kuwana... I hope you die." Ahma looked up before taking her hand off the wall, looking at the boy with saddened ruby eyes.

"This exam is the hardest test, I know that much. Like my father, if you pass, you will face more hardships, be forced to kill, and be forced to fight wars, regardless of how you feel. You may want that life, but listen to my words, I don't want that life for you, I don't want you to die in pain and loneliness, like my father did. Abandoned, thought dead then actually checked, no one cared about him... I don't want you to feel that way... Come on, try with less chakra." Ahma stated as she weaved the seals and eight crystalline kunais formed in the air. Grabbing them all in one motion. She raised them up for the boy to see. "How many this time?"

Her father… he must’ve been through a lot. Was all of that really expected to happen to Kojirou as well? It wasn’t as if people were talking about it, nowadays, but… Ahma looked so genuine. Loss had brought her here.

If Kojirou went through the same as her one day… would he turn out the same? One who discarded the way of the shinobi to realize their own wishes? One who’d know exactly what he wanted…

He couldn’t help but step back at the shattering crystals, noticing the change in Ahma. With the illumination of the cavern, his eyes took a moment to readjust before glancing over Ahma’s illuminated form, listening to her reasoning. Yes, Kusagakure was a shinobi village, so they weren’t safe from her resentment, but the fact that she didn’t hate Kojirou… shook him. Even if just for a moment.

If you do go to Kuwana... I hope you die.

Hearing that shook him even more… but it made him realize something. Her clan… and his clan… weren’t the same. As much as she cursed the shinobi world, people weren’t the same. He wished that he could’ve helped her in an earlier time… he really did.

"… O-Okay, let’s try,” he replied, dampening the amount of chakra flowing into his blade, clearly resulting in a weaker orangish glow. For some reason, Kojirou felt fear. Fear for his future, fear for the unknown, fear that what Ahma said had a chance to occur to him as well. Fear - irrational or not - always had a way with messing with people's heads. "Hey, Ahma… don’t you have anyone around you now? A friend, or just anyone you know…?” He was ready to perform the Mirror Blade one more time, but he was curious – someone like her would have trouble finding allies of any kind, so how was she faring…?

Onryō

Her mixed feelings of wanting to hurt those who hurt her, undermine those who hurt innocents, and protecting those she needed and/or wanted to care about conflicted with each other. That much was clear, her eyes just scream conflicted, stressed, in pain. Yet, her movements only moved with intent. The boy agreed to try and with no direction of a number, she readied four kunais, dropping the other four. She prepared to throw the ones in her hand, but, Kojirō threw her a question that made her freeze.

"If you asked me before, not really, only people I saved from trafficking or torture. I had a purpose and a mission, that was all I needed. Even now, part of a like-minded group, but I still lay low because out of all of us, I have the largest bounty just for existing. I haven't a need for them, I have the kids at the orphanage and every other person I save. What else do I need?" Ahma stated in a reply before she threw two kunais at the boy, then the last two one after the other. Upon releasing the final kunai, she watched to see if the boy could do his trick better or if she needed to drag him to an infirmary.

If the boy succeeded in doing his trick, Ahma just made a tilt of her head. "You'll know why I feel that way if you know this... Kojirō, do you know what an Onryō is? Do you know why they exist?"

[Honō Kojirou]

She appeared distraught by his question, which put him off for a good second. Did he… hit a nerve? Shit, maybe he asked something inappropriate. That was what he thought at first, but she explained her thoughts after a bit. Maybe it wasn’t too close to a sore spot, or maybe Ahma was just very tolerant of him… well, she had expressed her desire to warn him and help him, but what she wanted to help him get away from was an opportunity to become stronger. At least, in his eyes.

The only reason he met her to begin with was because of the Exams.

She… had a bounty? Oh no, this was even worse than he thought. This made Kojirou’s eyes widen in shock, for he’d never met a targeted person before. What on earth? Given by her story, he didn’t see any reason to put a damn bounty on her. Who on earth would do such a thing?

"Who… why do you have a bounty? That doesn’t make any sense!”

He actually sounded angered. It made bogus sense to him, but it didn’t prevent him from deflecting the two kunais followed by another pair. He deflected them efficiently, and the smaller glow on his katana allowed the kunais to still be left in one piece each, albeit with glow marks on their steel.

It was more than apparent that Kojirou was far more experienced with a katana than most Genin his age… and perhaps even a few Chūnin that weren’t specialized in that field. It was thanks to his clan’s training… they introduced him to it. Did that mean that he was ready to abandon them? Why would he do that?

What did he want?

"On… ryō?” That was a strange word – it sounded like a spirit, like, the spirits that often walk among the living, but he’d never heard that exact term before, "… No. Is it a spirit? Don’t they exist because of… uh… unfinished desires, or something like that?”

I wish you would die

Ahma felt that maybe the question would come up regarding her friend group, it was bitter how things turned out. But what was a bigger shellshock? His reaction upon hearing her having a bounty. Ahma said nothing that would give him an answer but instead a question that would make him think, keep him pondering to get the message harder. He inquired on it, clearly a slight dismissal of it. Ahma kept in mind how he seemed to have his way around a sword down.

"Sort of, Yūrēi are spirits that have passed but for one reason or another, can't move on to the next life. Most have to do with the cause of death and its circumstances of it. You could call my father a Goryō, the Tenchi clan is the most aristocratic clan in all of Amegakure, so their taking place in the Suna-Ame pipeline conflict is something but naming my father dead when he was in critical need of help was careless on their part. But because he lived and operated out the village, his title of a missing shinobi due to desertion prevented him from a peaceful rest. A grave crime you give to ACTUAL deserters, not those who aren't properly dead but needed help from others to recover. I was born with his same bounty just by blood relation. See where I say the system is so broken?" Ahma inquired but as she grabbed the four remaining kunai, she didn't wait for an answer prior to continuing.

"Fast forward to the tale how I nearly died, was tortured, and used to create a clone. My father was killed without respects and I was assumed dead. I took the approach to kill the clone and my captors for what they did to me. If my father is a Goryō, I am an Onryō, as I didn't stop there, I went out, saving others from similar situations but, apparently, people think killing human traffickers is wrong. The world's laws, shinobi controlling the legal systems and their radical if you aren't with them, you're against them is even more reason I hate the state of the world. Do you see know why I say chase your own dreams and desires now? The longer you wait, the better your chance is to be my father." Clearly holding back tears, Ahma raised the kunai in front of her face to signal Kojirō being ready before in one fast motion, all four were launched at him.

"I need no friends, I don't need distress, I need people to be happy and safe and not be used as objects. Sound familiar?" Ahma clenched her right fist and dust fragments of crystal fell off her hand. "Because of what I've done to save people, the circumstances of my birth, and the fact I can do something so damn rare is enough for shinobi to put a bounty on my head. Tell me why I shouldn't be angry, tell me why this reality isn't bullshit, tell me why reality isn't fucked. If you still wanna go to Kuwana and join this barbaric treatment of people and the throwing away lives under a name that has no meaning, go. Koji, I care so much about your happiness but if this is the route you choose, I sincerely hope you die before the reality of this world breaks you to a miserable tool." Ahma stated with a pained look on her face.

"I... I think you should go... Do me a favor, tell no one we met, tell no one we talked, but please carefully consider my words... I don't think I have enough chakra right now to make you forget meeting me, so I'm entirely trusting you to keep our secret. They might come for you, just for talking to me. Please go live your life, and please, never be like any trafficker, the Onryō legend you hear from villages too poor or desperate to hire shinobi, well... that legend isn't entirely a legend."

She turned away from the boy, grabbing her hair and running her fingers through the hair follicles. She didn't want to see the path he'd choose.

Unlike the classic violet Amethyst of other Shōton users, Ahma's Crystals (unless specifically indicated by the jutsu) appear like Onyx in coloration.

天国の贈り物 | Tengoku no okurimono
Ahma learned her 'Heavenly Gift' from the clan's teachings. Her gift affects her Ninjutsu, allowing her to wield unique, powerful, neigh-impossible to replicate elemental enhancements to her elemental ninjutsu. Her Heavenly Gift also deviates from enhancing all her basic elements to focusing on two, Fūton and Doton. What this means is that inherently, Ahma's doton jutsus can act as a minuscule seismic sense when in active use. Her Fūton becomes harder to see, while it still has a translucent color when applicable, the jutsu overall comes out faster compared to other non-SA-enhanced ninjutsu specialists.

Ahma's Seismic Sense is not a true dedicated sensing ability but instead, a passive effect/bonus of a Doton Jutsu, thus, each Doton Jutsu has this added benefit only when the Doton jutsu is in active use. Not being dedicated nor is it is it fully powerful, the ranges are extremely weak, only serving more as accuracy than true sensing.

Each range* is divided by rank of the Jutsu and behaves conversely than expected. This is due to the concentration of higher ranking jutsus require. This Seismic Sense reads vibrations on the ground and thus cannot sense those above ground or on water.

E-Rank Sensing Range: 90 Meters

D-Rank Sensing Range: 75 Meters

C-Rank Sensing Range: 60 Meters

B-Rank Sensing Range: 45 Meters

A-Rank Sensing Range: 30 Meters

S-Rank Sensing Range: 15 Meters

*These ranges are capped regardless of Shinobi rank due to relying on concentration and not natural ability.

Unique Seal Adaptation
Every Tenchi clan member is taught unique handseals and instead, prayer gestures and sutras for Jutsu, Ahma is no different to this. As such she is considered an advanced level sealist [re: Handseals] in the art. This does not grant her speed in the hand seals of common ninjutsu, rather she has an edge in the delivery of her clan's specialized jutsu.

Fine like Jade
Through extraneous training in chakra usage, Ahma has developed an unnatural level of chakra control. While it still isn't perfected, she has learned to efficiently mitigate excess exhaust from the jutsus she casts and how to give the proper input for the desired output, rather than pouring as much as she can and hoping for the best.

[Honō Kojirou]

Yūrēi… spirits, something that Kojirou had thought was merely myth… or were they?

Given by Ahma’s tone, they might just have been real all along. She called her father a Goryō, which sounded like a strong title, but given her father’s circumstances prior to his death… and the reason behind his branding… shit like this was happening? Was Kusa behind this, as well?

It felt as if the more he listened to her, the more painful it felt to think of himself as a shinobi. She made it clear that her bounty was actually her father’s, just that it was transferred to her partly due to her Kekkei Tōta. If something like that would’ve happened to Kojirou and his clan… then surely, he wouldn’t have been such an innocent lad. Nay, he would’ve likely turned out just like her.

Kojirou was ready to redirect the four Kunais, but he only managed to successfully do so with three of them. The fourth one got cut in half, just like the previous ones. Still some room for improvement upon his Chakra Control, but… he’d made some big steps today. Both physically and mentally. She did not want him to go to Kuwana. Part of him wanted to heed her warning…

"I…”

But he had friends. At least, he had friends he knew he could put his trust in… for now, at least. What sort of friend would he be, if he abandoned them here and now? Rather let them abandon him in the future, for he’d have the moral ground… but he wasn’t going to throw it all away due to a hunch about the future. But… she was convincing.

He simply nodded at her request and turned back towards the wall. The cavern’s opening above was his escape, but before he moved, he spoke: "Ahma… no, Onryō… I have a lot to think about. But I’ll keep this between us two. That’s what a good friend would do.”

With that, he ran up the wall and disappeared into the bright sunlight. Atagi and Koume were waiting. Ahma would likely get mad, but… he liked to see the world. He wanted to become a traveler. Visit place after place and shed enmity between people. It all felt like wishful thinking, but if he couldn’t even give it his all, then perhaps Ahma was right.

Then perhaps, he did need to die. Just like a real Honō would.
