The whole place was falling apart. It smelled moldy and musty, yet they still used this place as an academy because they didn't have the budget to rebuild it. If only the classmates were friendly or the subjects were fun, then he may not be so reluctant about coming back here every day. [break][break] "You're late." the teacher said with a sigh when he arrived in class. This man had a face that looked like he'd never seen the sun before. He wore thick glasses and his hair was long enough to touch his shoulders. His voice reminded him of someone who spoke through clenched teeth. "You've been late for three weeks now." [break][break] Akirei looked at him without saying a words. First of all, he was shy. Second, he hated this teacher with all his guts. Last but not least, he was often being bullied by the other students, and no one would do anything about it. Therefore, it was best to stay silent since it would not help at all even if he explained the reason. [break][break] "You can sit down on your chair, now!" His teacher said in a slightly angry tone. Akirei did just that without giving him any other response. People had started whispering among themselves. They knew exactly why Akirei was coming late. The bullies would called him 'weak' or some other silly names like 'paper kid'. Pushing his dishes when he was eating, making fun of him while during PE class, throwing things at him when the teacher were not looking. Who would want to attend such school if they had to suffer this every single day?

No, this wasn't some "time is relative" b-shit or space-time ninjutsu in the works. A wise man once said, "happiness is always short". Everyone knew what that meant but what people didn't know was the exact opposite applied to suffering. For the victims, their time would be flowing like forever. [break][break] "Why couldn't they let me go home early? Or better yet, just transfer me to another academy if they hate me so much." Akirei thought to himself as the bullies was closing in. "Hey Paper Boi, give us your lunch money now!" Akirei had gotten used to it already, so he simply handed over the money to them. So long if he survived this semester without making any troubles, he would most likely graduate at the year end. [break][break] But as always, things would never go as planned. The bullies were getting more persistent and aggressive recently. He managed to put up with their acts until they started to touch his mask. They could be making fun of his appearance, boycotting him in classes, throwing his stuff around and he would not even bat an eye. But his mask? That was his most precious possession, gifted by his mother at his sixth birthday. While he could not wear it during classes, it didn't mean they could just take it away from him. [break][break] It was at that very moment he knew he had to stand up for himself.

[break][break] The bullies looked at each other, then at the mask and finally back at Akirei before they broke out into laughter. His opponent, the tallest and strongest of them all, glared menacingly at Akirei. "Paper boi, are you for real?" [break][break] The bullies began to gather around Akirei and pushed him against the wall. Teachers weren't around but even if they were, they wouldn't interfere unless fight broke out. Fear gripped Akirei's heart and his hands trembled. While It was true that he was scared, he was not a coward. Not willing to lose his treasured gift, he pushed one of the bully away with all his might and took back his belonging. [break][break] "What the hell?!" the boys shouted in unison. Akirei's push wasn't strong enough to do much against the bully but it was enough to trigger a fight, or perhaps a massacre would be more appropriate to describe the situation. If it were not obvious enough, it was a one-sided domination in favor of the bullies. Before anyone could react, Akirei had already been pushed and beaten to the ground, his face bloodied and bruised. But no matter how strong the kicks and punches, he wouldn't let go of his grip on his mask. [break][break] "Fuck you all!"

It seemed the bully had finally had enough. Akirei raised his head only to find his teacher was staring at him. "What on earth are you doing? Get back to your seat if you are done with your lunch!" Amidst the shouting of his teacher and chatter of the students, all he was focusing was his one and only mask. [break][break] Despite all his efforts, he couldn't protect it. Shattered pieces of his mask was all over the ground, that was all he could see in his tunnel vision right now. Hatred started to grow in his heart as he picked up the broken parts one by one. Buzzing sound was all around him but he couldn't care less. [break][break] "Stop bugging me." His voice was nice and quiet, yet it was enough to shut his teacher's mouth. No, it wasn't what he said that shocked his teacher but his pair of eyes that filled with vengeance. "..." His teacher swallowed hard as they made eyes contact. He then slowly backed off and allowed Akirei to continue whatever he was doing. "Fuck this shit, I'm out. School drama in a fucking kindergarten!" [break][break] With all his attention drifted somewhere else, the class concluded in a blink of eye. He then left the academy without saying anything. Back at home, he managed to put back the mask in one piece. His crafting skill was definitely remarkable at his age but he was still far from catching up with his mother's as there were still some cracks on the mask. Of course, the small imperfection piqued his mother curiosity and so she asked, "Dear, what happened to your mask?" [break][break] "I broke it by accident." He responded with a smile to his mother. Gazing at the broken mask with his darkened heart, he muttered in a gentle tone, [break][break] "I shall fix it." [break][break] "I shall fix them all." [break][break]
