It had been time for a special lesson at the Kirigakure academy, today’s class was being briefed a few weeks ahead of schedule for what was known as the chunin exams, a yearly event that was being held this year in Iwagakure. Knowing that each of these students would be set and ready to face said exams in the future, Asuka figured it’d be a good idea to host an after school lecture for students who were interested in learning more.

Asuka had attended both, participated in one and was responsible for running security for the second one. She sat by her desk reading a book about different martial art styles to pass the time. The girl was a martial artist through and through and wanted to make sure she always had resources available to expand her knowledge this was in particular was about a particular martial art known as wrestling.

A style she had only known about in bits and pieces she had used some of its maneuvers in her style at one point such as takedowns and other abilities but not much more. Here’s hoping that since this wasn’t specifically taijutsu focused like the girl had a tendency to be fixated upon more of her students might attend.

Summary:

Asuka would be caught in the mist and would attempt to strike out at the young girl using the [Silken Fist: Counter Blow] but due to her uncertainty of where to strike her follow through was poor and may or may not have hit her target. However in the process of doing so she was caught with a strike to the gut by her opponent and pushed further into the mist for now she awaits her opponents next move.

With the rigorous training that Asuka had to endure as she honed her body to levels of perfection rivaling that of any martial arts master. Asuka's strength has increased 10 fold to the point where she is able to crush stoned within her grasp and breaks bones of lesser individuals with ease. And while she still has much to learn as a chunin. The youth's power is not one to be challenged lightly, as she is able to perform physical feats that would seem inhuman to even most shinobi.

Hijutsu: Kinu no Eikyō:
Asuka is a member of the Waruichi clan and as such has the ability to control a special chakra infused silk that was forged by a special group of silkworms that feed on the corpses of dead clansmen. With it Asuka can craft and shape the silk to her will and uses it in a mostly supplementary fashion to aid her in battle alongside her powerful taijutsu skills.

Iron Burst:
As a sole practitioner of Taijutsu Asuka has relentlessly pushed her body against itself for spectacular results: her strength carries over into her speed, and as such alongside the control she exerts body in spirit and in mind, she is intensely faster than those of a similar level of strength and maneuvering expertly as if the air were an extension of her own body.

A Disciplined Iron Bull:
During Asuka's time as a genin the youth had begun to realize that in order to excel as a shinobi she needed to learn how to properly utilize her chakra. And while she doesn't posses the greatest of reserves the youth has learned through rigorous meditation how to keep her chakra still and calm. As a result she is now able to wield it with a great deal of control and is able to channel only the necessary amounts of chakra into the few jutsu she uses in order to make the most of their abilities whilst still being able to keep up in a fight.

[attr="class","koan"]Special lectures seemed to be a rarity in the Academy as of late, and Noumu was admittedly quite excited to hear about it, not that it would show on his face much. His pale skin and saggy eyes lifted to the desk and the woman who sat at it as he made his way into the classroom.

He was always up for learning new things and even took his time outside of his student schedule to train himself and learn what he could to stay ahead of his peers. It was an easy thing to do considering he didn’t really hang out with anyone after school much.

More recently than not, An was really the only one he ever saw after his classes, not that he was complaining. She was a breath of fresh air in a world otherwise covered with the dust of old books and the spilled ink of his Fuuinjutsu pens. Today, it seemed, the special lecture would be held after hours. This was an easy way for him to grab some extra knowledge.

He bowed upon entering the room, lifting his head to notice that he seemed to be the only one who had yet to arrive. "Good afternoon, Asuka-sensei…guess I’m a bit early.” Noumu took his seat, resting his wooden sword on the back of his chair.

He twiddled at his thumbs as he waited for additional students to trickle in. "Hmmm...How have you been?"

Chuunin exams seemed something that was very far away for An, yet she was somehow drawn to this special lecture. Time passes fast and An always preferred to be ready for whatever events could happen in the future. Plus it was not that often that academy-level students could get some information about what exactly was going on in the chuunin exams, as they often changed locations, events, and tasks.

After all, most of the lessons for the day had ended, so the hallways were fairly empty, which was to be expected. But, as she made her way to the designated classroom, the thought of everything being extra still crept up on the girl, a worry of some sort took over An; was it really happening here or maybe it was canceled? She thought to herself, as classrooms were usually quite loud before the start of any lecture. Nevertheless, she had reached the room.

An slid the wooden door open while scanning the classroom, her gaze met with the well-known black orbs of a boy An knew all too well before she noticed the other figure in the room. She bowed to the teacher in the front row. "Good day, Asuka-sensei!" as she approached Nōmu, the girl politely greeted the older female. "Hi," she said quietly to the boy as she sat down next to him, "are we the only ones?" The question was rhetorical, as anyone could see that there were only three people in the classroom, but who knows, maybe someone had stepped out for a moment.

After waiting for a short while young Noumu would arrive in the classroom she watched as the boy looked tired much like always but gave her a rather kind rather greeting asking how she’d been. There hadn’t been any other students arriving after him, but after a brief moment little An would arrive who had a very pleasant greeting. "Good afternoon, An and you as well Noumu.” the girl would get up and remove a small piece of chalk from her hands. Before writing the words, Chunin exams on the board.

"Thank you both for joining me today hopefully more will be here soon, but if not then allow me to begin…for today’s lesson...” as the girl would continue to write on the board she’d take a pause in between each few words as she concentrated on elegantly putting the words on the board, which read. "Chunin Exams” up at the top in unnecessarily large letters with three other sub-titles that read Intelligence, Teamwork, Combat.

And then below them wrote the words Intelligence, Adaptation, Aptitude. "The Chunin exams.” the girl would say turning towards the two children in order to gauge their reactions, her hand behind her back and a small smile on her face eagerly to explain. "A test you guys will take when you're genin that will determine your aptitude to become chunin in the future."

His one, true friend, was at least in the room and that made his desire to learn and prove himself that much easier. If they were to get on the same team as Genin, their teamwork in the Academy would be useful.

"Afternoon, An. Glad to see you’ve made it,” he said as he sat up a bit on his desk, mostly to keep himself from beginning to relax too much or fall asleep during the lecture. He would look around the room, and it appeared to be the case unless the others were simply that late. "I guess…I guess so…”

Asuka would begin to speak, and his attention would turn to their sensei. He would straighten himself yet again and listen intently. He found it odd that she would speak of the Chuunin exams when he and An were only in their Genin years. To Noumu it seemed like a event that was so far away that it was nearly untouchable. To be prepped on it now…it made it seem more and more real.

He would wait for his teacher to pause in the hopes that he would not interrupt her. "What exactly are the requirements to take the Chuunon Exams? I mean…we know about the Academy Exams, but how different is it for Genin anyway?”

They were, as An suspected, the only ones who had decided to attend this extracurricular lecture. But it was possible that others would arrive later, which An thought was inappropriate. Being late was disrespectful because the time and location were clearly specified; however, some excuses could be accepted.

"Got it," she replied as she sat down next to Nōmu, securing her katana and backpack in the free seat next to her. She took out her pencil case and a notebook before giving her full attention to Asuka, placing them on top of the desk just in case. Asuka, the brown-haired female, began the class, and her focus shifted to her.

She wrote CHUUNIN EXAMS in big letters on the previously empty blackboard with a few quick gestures. Three sub-categories of today's topic appeared, one by one, in a more appropriate font: Intelligence, Teamwork, and Combat. All of the topics seemed important and interesting to An, and it appeared that she wasn't the only one, as Nōmu began asking questions. "I completely agree with what Nōmu said. Could you tell us about them, Asuka-sensei?" she asked, supporting the black-haired boy. While scribbling down what Asuka had written on the board in the notebook she had just opened.

As her two students as her questions she noticed that Nomu had seemingly fallen asleep at his desk, poor boy he must’ve had a relatively late night, he always looked so fatigued. As their conversation went on however she would explain. "To answer Nomu’s question in order to become a chunin you’ll need to register there aren’t really any prerequisites.” she’d give a stern look to her student. "But be careful, the exams aren’t anything to be trifled with, you’ll need to make sure you’re ready for whatever may come your way.”

Asuka had participated in the exam roughly 4 years ago now and she recalls what she had to go through. "It won’t be easy to make certain you’re prepared.” the girl would say looking back at the board. "The three things you’ll need to have on display are Intelligence, Adaptability, and Aptitude. Intelligence, denotes how well you know your craft, adaptability denotes how well you can apply that craft to various situations. And Aptitude shows how competent you are in being both adaptable and intelligent.” she’d look out at the girl and more students entered the classroom. "Does that make sense?” she’d look to see if anyone has any questions.

Asuka continued to speak, An saw that her gaze was drawn to the seat next to it, notably Nomu, who had fallen asleep. Perhaps the correct thing to do was to wake up the boy, but their teacher didn't appear to notice, so An opted not to and continued to pay attention to the brown-haired girl in front of her.

An hurriedly jotted down all of the crucial facts, notably the three things she will need to demonstrate when she takes the exam: intelligence, flexibility, and aptitude. "It seems hard..." she mumbled beneath her nose, scarcely audible to anyone. Her confidence level dropped slightly because she was not ready for the examinations right now, but will she be when she becomes a genin?

"I believe so," she replied to Asuka's question as a new wave of pupils entered the classroom and took their seats. Which seemed a bit rude to An, as the lecture had already started. "Could you please provide some more examples? Perhaps from your exam time?" An raised her hand to ask some further questions. It seems that no one else was intending to do so, as she looked around her for a bit before actually doing it.

The young woman nodded when An inquired about her exams. The three points she had made, were of course, only scratching the surface in terms of what actually made certain that one would pass to become a chunin. These students were only looking to become genin first, and that too would be a task worthy of the three points she had made. Though, she wondered how many would actually be aware that this was the case. There were a few who she worried would not make it in the graduation exams, they were no simple order after all - this much was true from what she had seen in her time as an instructor.

Most did not die, except for horrible accidents... But it happened and they had to be ready for it as shinobi.

"A good example would be the second round of my exams, we had to chase down an animal in a shifting maze. The team had to have the intelligence that we were put together for a reason, to work together. We also had to be intelligent enough to relinquish control to others when our skills were better suited for another task in chasing this animal in the maze. This was also a marker of our adaptability and flexibility. Particularly, how we were able to adapt to the situation presented before us as a team. As a whole these two elements, the proctors were able to determine our individual aptitude for becoming chunin, our *natural* ability, level and fitness to become chunin... Is that better?"

An listened attentively to Asuka's example, her hand still raised as she processed the insights shared. An for such a young child was one who spoke a lot, and used quite sophisticated words. It was curious, certainly, but Asuka nodded along with what she was saying. Clearly, An-chan was studious. It was admirable, if not a touch shocking. Asuka would turn around and write a few major points to observe for the class, mostly to emphasize a few things that An had said underneath the points that Asuka had made.

An would ask a follow up question and Asuka would turn to face the class again, moving around the desk, still holding the chalk in her hands and occasionally spinning it and messing with it as she spoke, mostly as a physical distraction for herself as it helped to focus a bit.

"It is hard to say, An-chan, what strategies were used. It has been a few years, and at the time we were unaware of what we would face after the first round of the exams. It was hardly clear we were supposed to be a team at first." She explained, the strategies had come up on the fly and from what she had heard of from other teams that seemed to be a similar case across the board.

Asuka was about to answer the next question but An continued to speak, muddling the topic a bit.

"Ah, well as some of you are fourth years, you are already being prepared for it in your Art of War class. Pay attention there, and work hard. This is the best way to cultivate those strengths. As well as your survival simulation drills, those are important for the things you are asking about An-chan." Asuka concluded before returning to the original topic leaning her hip against the desk a bit.

"As for my own experiences, the first round required quite a bit of general knowledge and experience. But also critical thinking. We were allotted a certain amount of points to buy supplies with no knowledge of what the supplies would go towards. In the end we were stripped of everything that we had not purchased - aside of our clothes and knowledge - and sent into several biomes to survive, we had to make it through them all in only three days, which meant we had to figure out when to sleep, and where it was safe to do so. It was a difficult experience that not everyone made it through."

Listening intently to Asuka-sensei's response, An absorbed the information like a sponge. She nodded along, her eyes wide with curiosity and excitement. Asuka's words made sense to her, even though the strategies used during the shifting maze scenario weren't clearly outlined. An understood that adaptability often meant being flexible and quick-thinking in unexpected situations.

The instructor would shake her head.

"That was the difficulty in the biomes, An-chan, there were no teams for that. It was done solo." There was no one to protect them while they slept, and their decisions to fight or run were doubly important. Stupid decisions meant lower scores, cocky decisions meant death... Some genin had pulled out, others had perished in those biomes. The first round had been a cull in truth, and while she did not state this out loud, there was a grim expression on her features as she regarded the classroom. All of these students would go on to live, or die and there was no telling which one it would be. She could only equip them with the tools to survive against challenges and enemies.

Once An finished, Asuka nodded and put a hand on her hip smiling slightly, wryly.

"Well, class is over, but remember one thing as you leave here today. You are training to become shinobi, and while it is not yet obvious for many of you, there are people out there who will try to kill you. We are all soldiers to protect our village and nation against sworn enemies. You must survive to continue to protect, and if you cannot survive then you must die trying. That is the reality of who you all will become one day... Killing may not always be the answer, but it should never be off the table when dealing with those that would kill you. Don't hesitate to strike when your life is in danger."

There was a pause and she nodded once more.

"Dismissed."
