all about timing, timing, timing...

To find one so thoughtful at a young age was a rarity.

Reminded him of himself, in a way. Always stuck in his own head. Though he did hope the boy had led a more peaceful life than his own. "Really wack." Was his response, light smirk still persisting. Thoughts of his clan came to mind. Of his father and the many, many blades he'd forged. "Weaponmakers have no say in what their works go on to do... makes you wonder if the world might be better off without us." There he was being grim again. Despite his words, the tone in his voice wasn't all that sad. Just an errant musing, really.

Seemed their conversation had put him quite the moralizing mood.

If the youth knew his weapons he may have even heard of his family's works. Wicked, cursed tools used in countless wars throughout the years. Though they had not shared their names yet, it might all start to come together upon hearing his. "Ah... it's nothing." The wanderer spoke, waving off his question about darkness. Not the time or place to delve into that whole mess. "Seems like you have a good head on your shoulders, you'll be fine." One could hope. Many well-meaning youths had been chewed up and spit out of the systems they lived under.

Ninja, samurai... perpetuators of violence all the same.

Taking his meaning about training the boy stood up. He did too. "Anything specific you need to work on?" His next question, rolling his neck a bit as he took a few steps into the road and limbered up. Depending on his answer he could either be a big help or not so much. "These two will help me out." Returning his hands to his pockets the frog on his shoulder clambered atop his head, a frown crossing his face as his hair was mussed by the movement. Ceasing its digging on the side of the road the small white rabbit hopped to his side and then out in front of him, lowering itself in a ready stance. "Don't be afraid to hit them they're... sturdier than they look."

It would be a good stress test for the small animals. Had to make sure they were up to snuff, after all.

TAKE ME TO VALHALLA WHERE MY BROTHERS WAIT FOR ME

"Nah nah can't let the whole practice die off cuz a few people use your stuff for less than desired means. World would look a whole lot different if that were the case." A profound moment that the boy would not recognize as one possibly ever but surely not in this moment. That line of thinking could have turned the entire shinobi world on its head in application but in all honesty the boy was just trying to keep the strangers spirits up. He could empathize with how the man felt about his work being used for pig hunting but he sounded like really enjoyed making weapons so it'd suck for him to be discouraged off that one experience.

A soft hum escaped the boy as he contemplated just what he wanted to train. He knew what he wanted to train but had already decided that it was best done in the presence of someone who had some knowledge of the sage arts to prevent disaster which left... well, not too much. A brow raised when the man stated that the two animals would be helping out and the mystery of what exactly those things were grew even deeper though it seemed that the genin would be finding out sooner rather than later.

"If that's the case then I guess fighting against multiple opponents. I kinda got outnumbered in a fight a while back and.. it didn't end well." A shiver ran through Mairusu's spine as flashbacks of his spar against Miroru ran through his head. She was strong enough in her own right but then adding all those foxes was just too much for him to deal with. Thankfully it was only a friendly bout otherwise Mairusu was certain he wouldn't be standing here today. "You, er, you and your friends can have first move." Were they rabbitken and frogken? Was that how the suffix worked? That was assuming they had shinobi capabilities in the first place, maybe they were just really well trained.

sit back in my chair, relaxing and reclining

Listening to the boy speak the swordsmith considered his words for a moment.

Tilting his head a bit he nodded slowly. "Definitely different... probably a lot more peaceful." It was a deeper subject surely. The merits of weapons of war. Morbidity played its ugly hand and for a moment he pondered how much blood his clan alone had on their hands... but those were surely thoughts for later. Training to get done.

As he waited for the youth's response something odd might catch his eye. Slender, near-imperceptible strings glowing a subtle blue color. They appeared to be emanating from the wanderer's pocket where his right hand was. And leading to both the frog atop his head and the rabbit. The Puppet Technique, in all of its glory. Up until now the animals movements had been slight. Only requiring subtle manipulation. But now that a bout was about to ensue the threads were in full effect. Only a few for each animal... but they were surely there. Active completely now.

Multiple opponents. "You never know when you'll be outnumbered." He commented with a nod. A great skill to hone. And one in particular that his skillset was near perfect for. Removing his right hand from his pocket his thumb flicked, the white rabbit standing on its hind legs. The swordsmith formed a Tora hand seal with his hands. Four puffs of smoke appeared, two on either side of the small creature. When they dissipated four identical duplicates stood in their place thanks to the Puppet Clone Technique. Just as handy as it was confusing in a battle. "I'll throw Tsuki and co. here at you." He said taking a few steps back as several more threads extended from his fingertips. Latching onto the doppelgangers. "Keep an eye out for surprises." An unusual warning to be certain. But this tiny creation of his had a few tricks up its sleeve. Fur? Wherever rabbits kept surprises.

Middle finger flicked and the original rabbit darted forward with surprising speed. A latch on its belly flipped open and a Smoke Bomb dropped out, a large cloud of smog erupting from the small black pellet. Pinky and thumb moved, causing two more clones to dart into the smoke and rush at the boy in an attempt to headbutt him from opposite sides. May have been small, but getting rammed into by something made of thick wood and black iron was still sure to sting. He took the opportunity provided by the cloud to slink behind some nearby trees.

With a hiss a small circular area on his frog's belly hummed to life. Displaying a POV feed of a camera. With this he could keep an eye on his rabbits from a distance. And test the thing's reliability. "Let's see how he reacts..."

OFFENSIVE TECHNIQUES:
NAME: Kugutsu no Jutsu - [Puppet Technique]
RANK: C
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low [Continuous]
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Puppetry]
ELEMENT: N/a
DESCRIPTION:
The fundamental and most used technique of the style, Kugutsu no Jutsu allows a puppeteer the ability to use puppets in battle. While the degree in skill determines the number of puppets that can be controlled, for starters the user can control only one. By making near invisible strings of chakra from each of their ten fingertips and attaching them to their puppets they are able to control the puppet from various distances. However there is a delay between the puppeteers orders and the puppets movements, meaning puppet movement will not be instantaneous, and the response time increases based on distance.

SUPPORTIVE TECHNIQUES:
NAME: Kugutsu Bunshin no Jutsu [Puppet Clone Technique]
RANK: C
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low - Medium (Per Clone)
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Puppetry]
ELEMENT: -
HANDSEALS: 1
DESCRIPTION:
After performing the necessary hand seal the user is able to create a physical clone of a puppet. Multiple clones can be created though the amount of chakra needed to perform this jutsu increases with each one. Naturally more complex puppets require more chakra to clone as well. These puppets retain all weapons and mechanical abilities of the original, though do not retain chakra-reactive/conductive abilities and will disperse after being struck. This does not bypass the necessary chakra strings required to control puppets but with some clever implementation or additional techniques the duplicates can used effectively.

ITEMS USED:
NAME: Smoke Bombs
CLASSIFICATION: Offensive
DESCRIPTION:
Smoke bombs create a clouds of smoke when it detonates. They may look like small spheres wrapped in paper. Smoke bombs are typically used to blind opponents and make them easier to attack. Alternatively, ninja can use smoke bombs on themselves so that opponents cannot see what they are doing. The smoke itself isn't particularly dangerous, and only induces a slight cough from those trapped in its 5 meter radius.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:

STRING THEORY - ENHANCED CHAKRA CONTROL

Necessary for his Puppet Ninjutsu and applicable to his other techniques, Uemon has trained extensively in order to mitigate the amount of chakra he uses with his techniques. Compensating for his average chakra reserves this allows him to stay in the fight that much longer.

PUPPETMASTER - INTELLIGENCE

A natural strategist with a quick mind, Uemon is always observing even in the midst of combat. This allows for him to find gaps and weaknesses in his opponent's techniques easier than some, and allows him to formulate strategies and deceptions to take advantage of these shortcomings. His knack for tactics cues him on which approach should work best depending on his target.

ASHIZUKAI WORK - SPEED

Honed after years of fighting and training in Jujitsu with samurai as a child in the Land of Iron, Uemon is surprisingly light on his feet and his hand-to-hand strikes are faster than most expect. Able to strike and weave with deft swiftness he is capable of holding his own against Taijutsu specialists of his rank and outright overwhelming those of lower ranks in a straight up slugfest.

TAKE ME TO VALHALLA WHERE MY BROTHERS WAIT FOR ME

So what were this guy and his pets going to get into? They didn't look or act like the foxes Miroru had summoned in their spar and there were only two of 'em so it'd be easier to keep track of them but there was no telling what tricks the stranger had up his sleeve. He had been trained by a shinobi so it'd be wise not to take him lightly. In one fell swoop, however, where there was one rabbit now there were five and that familiar feeling of being overwhelmed began to slowly creep over him. "Gettin' a mean case of deja vu right now." Mairusu muttered to himself as his eyes flicked between the now five rabbits standing before him. He had never heard of battle rabbits before but was all the more cautious after getting jumped by a gang of foxes.

In a flash one of them began to move and from it came a smoke bomb that obscured the area, but more importantly had that thing come from that rabbits stomach?! What kinda animal, ninja related or not, could just open up itself and shoot out equipment? The dots were connecting, but the circle wasn't complete just yet...

Focusing on the task at hand the boy needed to be way of the others that surely weren't going to allow him to wait out the smoke. It'd be near impossible to see them so he'd have to rely on his sense of sound to try and track their movements. Drown out the mess and focus. Perhaps all the meditation training was finally beginning to pay off or maybe it was the slightly heavy nature of the constructs that allowed the boy to hear their steps but he could hear just enough. Make no mistake it was faint and in any louder of a locale the boy wouldn't have been able to hear them at all, but he could hear them now and that was what mattered.

Two coming at him, one from each side. Smart. The genin would jump back hopefully out of the path of the incoming attack before fishing out a couple of kunai from his pouch and throwing them at where he believed the rabbits would be. He assumed they were just clones so a decent strike should have been enough to get rid of them, though he would have felt a little bad if one of them turned out to be the real one, though he was quickly beginning to realize that it was not an ordinary rabbit.

he has not a care in the world...

The bout was underway.

Good news? His surveillance screen seemed to be working fine. Bad news? Tsuki the rabbit seemed to be a bit too loud. Smoke obscured a good portion of the exchange but with some squinting the wanderer was able to make out some of what happened. "Tweak paw pads..." Swiftly removing a small black book he scribbled a note to himself. There were always adjustments to be made. And field testing was the surest way to discover his 'friend's weaknesses.

He'd have to thank the boy once this was over... this training would be fruitful for the both of them.

Observing him leap out of the way of the oncoming headbutts the swordsmith's mouth perked up on one side. "Nice reaction time." He may have been young but he was clearly well-trained. The Village Hidden in the Leaves seemed to be raising fine shinobi. Both rabbit clones bumped heads, after which two thrown kunai hit their mark and stabbed the poor things. With naught but a squeak they disappeared into puffs of smoke. "Not bad." It seemed that a simple combination wouldn't be enough. That was fine. Using both hands threads from all of his fingers attached to the remaining three rabbits. "Time to get shifty." From out of the smoke sprinted the trio of critters, moving faster than the first two had. Fingers moved in a blur, pushing their speed to its max. Two leapt in opposite directions, kicking off of trees on either side of the path and opening their mouths to launch a hail of ten senbon at their target's feet. Not really aiming to injure, just to hopefully throw him off balance.

They jumped alongside the path, hoping to flank around him while the lone rabbit still on the ground charged headfirst. Just as it looked ready to attack it changed direction at the last second, bounding off to the side and onto a tree. In tandem, the three began their assault. Jumping in a flurry of motion around the boy. Over and over. A haze of white as they moved. How would he defend from multiple angles? Using the momentary distraction hopefully caused by the senbon all three rabbits would attempt to blitz him, hit-and-run style. Again only resorting to headbutts so as not to draw blood. Behind his tree, the wanderer frowned. "Video feed gets hazy at high-speeds..." Later he'd have to jot down some more notes, but for now he needed both hands to manipulate all three rabbits. Definitely needed a few adjustments... but so far this test was turning out surprisingly well. Almost made him proud.

The wanderer was curious to see how the boy would respond. Multiple small targets whizzing around and high speeds were hard for even marksmen to hit. Eyes narrowing on the screen, his fingers continued to orchestrate.

TAKE ME TO VALHALLA WHERE MY BROTHERS WAIT FOR ME

All that practice had paid off in being able to hear the rabbits charging in towards him and being able to avoid them, but if they hadn't been so mechanical in nature it probably would have been a different story. Either way, the boy knew he had barely managed to avoid that attack and could feel himself leaning on his backfoot once more. It was tough trying to figure out which one to focus on as he didn't want to give the others a wide open shot at him but he'd never win being on the defensive the whole time.

Now there should have been only three, still not great odds but better than a few moments before and sure enough they all came bounding out of the smoke all at once for another offensive. Head moving from side to side he'd try to keep track of their movements but with two of them splitting off in opposite directions that was going to be tough. He thought for a moment that they may have been trying to circle around him but seeing the rabbits hop up and off a tree threw that theory out the window and instead the critters began to launch needles from their mouths at his feet. It was unexpected for sure and Mairusu did all he could to dip, dodge, and duck the needles. "Ok these things are not normal."

Unfortunately the feint had done its job to get the boy off kilter and by the time he stopped moving the three rabbits were already speeding about around him. He knew the creatures were quick but this was crazy! His eyes would do their best to stay on one while another headbutted him in the back, and when he switched his focus to that one another would hit him in the leg. Getting headbutted by anything had a chance to hurt but he didn't expect one from a rabbit would be this painful. If this kept up the fight would be over in no time so something had to give.

Fast as they were the things still needed to see where their target was to hit him so if he could take that away, if even for a moment, it would maybe give him a moment or two to think of a more permanent solution. Jumping a few meters to the side the genin would perform a set of seals as he began to charge chakra to a single point on his forehead. He'd then release the seal loosing a blinding shine of light that, if the rabbits were still fixated on him, would hopefully blind them for a few moments. It wasn't much but even a couple moments to get his shit together would be great.

NAME: Raiton: Senkō Mosu [Lightning Release: Flash Flare]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu
ELEMENT: Raiton
DESCRIPTION:
The user will perform the needed Handsigns and focus Raiton chakra to a single point above the forehead to cause an instant flash of light to be produced that can blind anyone directly staring at the point of origin for about ten Seconds. This is a great tactical move for those attempting an escape.

no, i'm lying

Things were starting to get interesting.

Of course he wasn't aiming to actually injure the boy, but even if he had been the boy likely would've evaded the needles launched his way. "Moves well." He thought, observing his progress via the camera feed. Every so often some static hissed and the picture went blurry. A thump on the frog's belly mostly sorted it out. More tinkering to do, it seemed. An onslaught of rabbits wasn't even enough to stop him. "Definitely not normal." The wanderer called out, his voice echoing throughout the wooded area. Now that their true nature had been revealed, it was time to see.

Would he adjust his strategy? Speed was good, accuracy with kunai was fine, but the mind was one's most important tool. Eyes narrowing on the screen he continued to watch with growing curiosity. He had to think.

And think, he did. Two hits his Tsuki's had scored on him. Luckily they were small and not out for blood. But he was no quitter. Observing his movements he watched as hand seals were weaved. Before he knew it a blinding light shone, the camera feed turning completely white. "Dull their senses. Smart." Some encouragement. Though of course there was more. "Press the attack right away or flee afterwards. Otherwise..." A finger flicked, and a compartment on one of the rabbits' stomachs swung open. A thin strip of parchment dropped to the ground. An Explosive Tag. "Impaired opponents get desperate." He formed a Mi hand seal. Then...

Nothing. Of course he wasn't gonna try and blow the kid up. It was just a spar, after all.

Though he hoped his point was understood. Instead the remote-activated tag remained there, inert. The clone did however drop a Smoke Bomb. Renewing the thick smog that filled the area. Now all combatants were at a disadvantage. Instead of flitting around like before he commanded them to move slowly. Quietly. Though they still needed some work, they were designed with stealth in mind. Odds were at least one would bump into him, and by then he hoped the camera had cleared up to give him line of sight. Only then would he make his move.

Unless the young Leaf shinobi made his first.

TAKE ME TO VALHALLA WHERE MY BROTHERS WAIT FOR ME

Mairusu knew something was up with these rabbits yet still being wet behind the ears kept him from being able to put his finger on what it was exactly and in all the commotion he hadn't even noticed that the wanderer had scurried off somewhere. For now however he would deal with what he could see and that was that his attack had worked to stop the creatures for at least a couple moments which was good enough. He needed to dwindle their numbers down some more as trying to keep up with 3 of them was just too much.

The boy quietly cursed himself for not having anything ranged aside from basic weaponry as it would have made trying to hit these things a little easier but instead he'd have to settle for the old fashioned way. He would charge at one of the rabbits, unsure if clone or real, aiming to put a solid strike on it when all of a sudden it's mid section opened up and out came an exploding tag. "Shit shit shit." Mairusu exclaimed as he tried to skid to a stop but was expecting the worse yet... it never came. Was it a dud? Was the man playing tricks on him? Whatever the reason the genin had for the moment escaped some pretty nasty damage.

Alas there was no time to rest as the same rabbit would drop another smoke bomb obscuring the area once again. Instinct pulled him to find a way out but he wouldn't just yet, instead opting to dig for a couple kunai and a spool of wire before quickly tying a knot on the ends of each throwable and letting off some slack. By now the rabbits would probably be able to see again --minus the smoke-- and be back to zooming about and charging at him, but he'd be ready this time. It had been a hasty and haphazard plan against Miroru and her foxes but Mairusu felt that against these numbers it would work, so for now he would just wait.

i'm waiting, waiting, waiting, sittin' up

Just as he thought. The boy wasn't reckless.

Impressive, especially considering his age. Solid thought-processing ability was something that often got overlooked he felt. It's easy to get overconfident when you're capable of breathing fire or molding entire false realities with just a few hand gestures. So it was a nice surprise when he met another fighter who put some thought into his actions.

He did not run and give away his position, nor swing blindly in an attempt to hit something. Instead he took the safest course of action. Holding his ground. His rabbits weren't able to find him despite their best efforts.

After a while the smoke began to thin out. "Now's our chance..." It was a prime opportunity for both parties. As soon as the video feed reflected sign of him his fingers moved, commanding the rabbits to strike. One leapt forward in an attempt to headbutt the boy in his stomach. "Be careful, they're quick." The other two skittered around his feet and in between his legs. Trying to trip him up. Keep him off balance as much as he could. "You'll have to think fast to pin down wily opponents." True none of them packed much of a punch separately, but they were plenty annoying to deal with in a group. The wanderer noted a few kunai the boy had gripped in his hands, but on the camera the wire connecting them went unnoticed. "What'll he do?" The thought occurred. Interest rising.

When it came to battle he was naturally cautious, and employed plenty of misdirection and tools to gain the upper hand. Now it was time to see if the boy could outfox his rabbits. If he could? That would truly impress him.

TAKE ME TO VALHALLA WHERE MY BROTHERS WAIT FOR ME

His hunch had been correct and as soon as the smoke cleared the rabbits were back to running about. Hey if it wasn't broke why fix it, right? They had managed to get a few hits in before and until the boy showed that he could adequately deal with them there was no reason to switch up the strategy, so the onus was on the genin to do something about it. As one would begin to charge straight at him the boy would create a single seal channeling raiton chakra into the wire he held in his hands that in turn would charge the kunai tied to them, a crackling sound emitting as electricity visibly sparked from the weapons.

He'd toss one kunai at the charging rabbit hoping to hit it dead on and give it a good shock, but even if the kunai landed close to the critter there was a chance the sparking weapon would give it a jolt. With his one remaining kunai he'd toss it to the rabbit coming from his left trying to achieve the same result, though with the two simply trying to run between his legs and trip him up it would maybe serve as more of a deterrent more than anything.

The plan called for a bit more but with the rabbits buzzing about under his feet Mairusu knew trying to do any intricate foot movements would definitely have him tripping over the critters, but if he could get them to back away, or better yet poofed all together then he'd be in business.

NAME: Raiton: Hōden suru [Lightning Release: Discharge]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low | Continuous low drain for extended use
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu
ELEMENT: Raiton
HANDSEALS: 1, one-handed elemental seal, LIGHTNING RELEASE
DESCRIPTION:
Raiton energy is sent through an object held in direct contact by the user. Raiton energy excites the atoms that make up the object to the point were it visibly emanates electricity. The raiton cloak in turn uses the same energy to discharge multiple currents of electricity in pulse-like intervals. This leads the object to let out extremely painful currents of electricity for up to a foot away from point of contact; while causing moderate electrical burns at the point of contact.

waiting, waiting, waiting, contemplating

Area of effect... that was the key.

Faced with multiple foes there were several options for dealing with them. Defend as best you can and try to eliminate each one-by-one, attempt to hide and pick them off, or attack as many as you can all at once. Considering the relative weakness of his opponents, the boy chose correctly. Rather than be endlessly harried by quick and irritating rabbits he decided to make efficient use of his Raiton, shocking the one charging him and another.

One vanished in a puff of smoke, the other was flung off to the side of the path. Sparking and twitching.

Well played. "You're calm under pressure. That's good." The wanderer spoke from behind the tree, the video feed he was watching full of static from the attack. Tsuki's real body was still convulsing but provided enough of an image for him to still work. "Remember though..." Words trailed off as his fingers flicked. Two had been immobilized... but there was still a third. Having weaved through his legs the rabbit would turn and spring towards the youth, attempting to perch on his shoulder and cling to him. It's mouth opened, revealing two razor sharp incisors made of black iron. In a flash it would bite at his neck. Then stop. Mere centimeters away from his exposed skin. "...a battle isn't won until you're the last one standing." Emerging from the brush once more he moved to face the boy, threads visibly connected from his fingertips to the remaining rabbit. All it would take is a flick. One twitch.

How would he react now? Any more plans? Tactics to handle a sneak attack to a vital area? Of course this was still a spar... but he still felt it pertinent to make a point. A shinobi had to be beyond sharp. Especially when outnumbered.

The trick had worked this time, better than he could have expected actually as the kunai actually hit their marks spelling the end for one of the clones and sending the other one reeling off to the side. A small smile crossed the boys lips as he finally felt like he had gained some kind of foothold in this spar. Alas, it was short lived as there was a third rabbit that he had not been able to do anything about and before he could recall one of his still charged kunai it had found its way onto his shoulder ready to bite into his neck fangs (fangs?!) bared.

"Yep alright, ya got me." The genin spoke as he let go of the wire that was connected to the kunai right as the stranger revealed himself from out of the shrubbery. So that's where he had been hiding. Squinting to get a better look it seemed as if something was connected to the man's fingers which trailed all the way to the rabbit sitting on his shoulder. Then it clicked. "Oh, these are puppets!" Mairusu exclaimed as all the hints the man had given before began to make sense. He had heard about them sparingly but never came across anyone that used 'em until now.

Mairusu had done better but if fending a few --albeit enhanced-- rabbits was still giving him trouble then the boy still had a long way to go. "Your teacher must have been something else if they went through the trouble of teaching you such a specialized skill." The wanderer hadn't given much info about what all tools of shinobi he could use but if he was skilled enough to keep track of a bunch of puppets then he probably had some other tricks up his sleeve, too.

this light of mine goes dim tonight

Tsuki's clone closed her mouth, head nodding up and down in time with the wanderer's index finger.

Puppets indeed. "Not a bad showing." The wanderer said as formed a half Tora hand seal, the duplicate dispersing in a puff of smoke. Moving over to the true rabbit puppet he crouched down, its form still twitching and smoldering a bit from the chakra lightning. "You figured out their tempo... would've got them all with enough time." Prodding the small rabbit he tended to it as best he could, inspecting for signs of any serious damage. With some tweaks it'd be fine. "Looks like she still needs some fine-tuning." Reaching for a small scroll in his hip pouch, he unfurled it and placed a hand to the empty parchment. Another small burst of smoke later and the small puppet was re-sealed within. The kanji '兎' now marking it. "These two are my newest." He said, nodding to the frog.

Small, but effective in their own way. They weren't exactly suited for straight up combat... but for their intended purpose they didn't need to be. A little more work and they'd be fully ready for use.

Listening to the boy's words he very nearly chuckled. Oh if he only knew. "Believe it or not, the ninja who trained me didn't help much with this. Just gave me some old scroll he probably swiped from someone." Thinking back on the old lout he shook his head. He'd been some sensei alright... all drinking and chasing skirts in his free time. But he did teach him a thing or two. "Took me years to figure it out... still couldn't even tell you if I'm doing it right." Self-teaching could only get one so far. Especially when it came to advanced techniques like the Kugutsu no Jutsu. Puppetry was intricate. If he hadn't already had a penchant for details due to his background as a swordsmith's son... probably never would've gotten this far. "What about you?" He asked, re-rolling the scroll and placing it back in its pouch. "Your Raiton's pretty potent, your sensei teach you that?" Could've been natural talent, but from their conversation earlier he took the boy for a hard worker. Lots of training was his guess. But it was only a hunch.

As the boy wondered what other tricks the puppeteer had up his sleeve, he did the same in turn. This had been a curious encounter to say the least. Kid had potential no doubt. A few more years and he could end up a real force.

TAKE ME TO VALHALLA WHERE MY BROTHERS WAIT FOR ME

The weight of the rabbit disappearing in a puff of smoke allowed the boy to finally take a deep breath. He had been rigid with the tenseness of battle and it often showed in his breathing. Too deep of breathes meant he wasn't locked in enough, or so he thought, but being loose in the moment often allowed for more adaptability when things weren't always going to plan. A lesson the genin would learn in time. Mairusu would watch as the wanderer went to check on the original rabbit and for a brief moment the boy smiled as he took note of how well a strike he had been able to get on it; then turning his attention to the frog perched upon the man's shoulder. He hadn't seen it in the fight but it probably had some wild contraptions built into it, too.

"Well now the training part makes sense, and here I thought they were circus animals." The genin replied with a chuckle. He was surprised to hear that the man's instructor didn't help him with learning how to control puppets at all. Controlling one's chakra enough to be able to extend it out in strings was one thing, but being able to control the entire bodies of puppets was on another level and being self-taught was pretty amazing; the guy would have definitely been an asset to any village but there were surely reasons he wasn't associated with one. "Man that's even more impressive. My control isn't super great to begin with, let alone be able to--." Mairusu would say as he began to mime various finger movements.

Then the question came as to how the genin's skills with raiton had gotten to the point they were and yet again the boy was put at a crossroad. He had never had a traditional sensei and was only recently formally recognized as a student of Mitsuda and even he had not taught him anything about harnessing the power of raiton. "It's pretty much all I can do at the moment so it's what I've been focusing on the most. Until recently I didn't have a sensei so it's been a lot of trial and error." Mairusu would reply. His world was beginning to open up but the power that came with it was still locked behind certain teachings and the ability to call upon beings and abilities he didn't yet understand. "Hopefully soon I'll be able to do more than throw electric kunai at people."

will i be alright?

The boy's joke was not lost on him, and though his expressions were always muted a faint smirk did cross his face. "They'd probably do well in a troupe... something to think about if I'm ever low on ryō, I guess."

Performing wasn't exactly his strong suit. Had a hard time emoting the 'right' way for a crowd. Done a few puppet shows on the road... but solo, they weren't the most exciting. Relied mostly on his contraptions' showier aspects to put on any halfway decent entertainment. "Hm..." The wanderer hummed in thought as the boy stated his control wasn't the best. Closing his eyes for a brief moment he attempted to hone in on the youth's chakra signature. A budding sensory ability allowing him to get somewhat of a gauge of the boy's supply. "You didn't break a sweat using those techniques." He said upon opening his eyes. Standing to his full height he placed his hands in his pockets and turned to face the young Konoha shinobi. "Control is good, but you can make up for it in other ways."

It was all about maximizing what you were good at. Try to perfect too many things at once... and you end up a master of none. Sort of like him with his artistic pursuits. A valid path to be sure, but not for everyone.

Listening intently the wanderer nodded as the boy explained his Raiton honing. "Keep at it." Encouragement... maybe he was getting more personable. "Sharpen that ninjutsu... if an electric kunai put Tsuki out of commission, that lightning of yours will be a threat in a few years." It was already impressive. All of his puppets were made of black iron and fairly conductive, so if a shock could take one down it was no meager feat. "Soon you'll be breathing thunder or... whatever it is ninja do." Despite his own affinities for Fūton and Raiton he had never been the best at conjuring elements within his own body. So he left the more flashy jutsu to his puppets. Channeling he could do.

As he stood a thought occurred. "Almost forgot." Now that a rapport had been struck— and he knew the boy wasn't hostile, an introduction was long overdue. "I'm Muramasa, by the way." Always cautious. You never knew.

If the boy was familiar with weaponsmiths he might recognize the name. If not, it would be just like any other.
