[attr="class","jshead"] 村正上門 NAME: Muramasa Uemon AGE: GENDER: Male BIRTHDAY: July 21, 1004 BIRTHPLACE: Tetsu no Kuni CLAN: Muramasa RANK: C-Rank POSITION: Wandering-nin OTHER ALIAS: n/a [attr="class","jsftb"] APPEARANCE Height: 170.26cm (5'7") Weight: 69kg (141lbs) Uemon stands at an average height with shoulder-length wavy black hair that he maintains as often as he can be bothered to do so. Caramel-colored skin sets him apart in a crowd and is a common feature of his now scattered clan. Dark umber view the world sternly, though carry a distinct sadness they carry within their depths. Appearing like honey in the sunlight, or near-black in shadow. Never one to overly-emote, he broods constantly. Two beauty marks adorn the left side of his face, one below his lip and another above his eyebrow. During a duel with a rōnin he gained two prominent scars, a thin one on the left side of his forehead that tends to reopen during battle and a larger diagonal one on the right side of his abdomen that stretches from his bottom rib to his hip. Another given to him by a gokenin mars his back near his left shoulder blade. All pain him whenever the weather changes. Dressed pragmatically in basic shinobi attire he prefers simple and effective clothes to luxury. He wears a thin jacket with a high collar and tapered comfortable pants both dark blue in color. A black long-sleeved shirt keeps him warm underneath. Occasionally he may wear a dark blue yukata held closed with a white obi and switches to wearing zori. Casual situations find him wearing whatever he has on hand. Rather than sandals that shinobi typically prefer he opts for brown boots more suited to his traveling ways. Secured in a holster on his waist are several small scrolls containing puppets. Often a sheathed katana travels with him slung loosely over his left shoulder. His style may change depending on the needs of the day but he always optimizes for practicality and comfort. On his right forearm is what appears to be a tattoo of a three-headed serpent. In actuality it is a seal scribed onto his skin using the Karada Fuinjutsu. Tattoo Appearance While traveling he often dons a dull brown cloak to shield himself from the elements. [attr="class","jsftb"] PERSONALITY NINDO: "By any means." Uemon is as complicated and flawed as any other human. On the outside he often appears indifferent and seems hard to approach, with a touch of melancholy to be noted by anyone sharp enough to pick up on it. Though once he warms to someone he is perfectly capable of acting as kindly as any friend would to another. He is fairly reserved as far as people go much preferring to listen and observe than be at the center of attention. He is sharp and makes sure to always keep intricate notes mentally as well as physically. Where matters of the heart are concerned he has troubles with attachment, but takes his comforts where he can find them. A crafstman by trade he is appreciative of all forms of art; music, painting, literature, sculpting, carpentry, smithing and most importantly to him— puppetry. Hobbies include pursuing all of the aforementioned interests. A capable drafter he sketches constantly in a small black book he always carries around when he isn't journaling or taking notes in it. He also plays the shamisen a bit and can even sing, possessing a raw if unrefined talent. Reading brings him rare solace and he seeks knowledge wherever and whenever he can. At the core of his persona lies his unquenchable yearning to take his family home and seek vengeance on the people responsible for their banishment. Once a great family of blacksmiths known across the lands for their skill in swordmaking, they were all scattered to the wind after a tragedy when Uemon was ten. Since then he has dedicated himself to training and learning all that he can in the hopes that one day he can erase that black mark on their legacy. All-consuming in its hold on him he will do whatever necessary to bring the Muramasa clan back to their homeland. And anyone who denies him this is an obstacle to be overcome. It is said the Muramasa are all cursed by the madness and while this is a myth one could argue his fervor in pursuing this near-impossible goal demonstrates this trait. In times of great duress he has been known to adopt a fiendish, crazed smile. Due to this past event Uemon is very wary of swordsmen in general and despises samurai with the exception of a select few. Ninja he mostly feels ambivalent about. Wanderer by circumstance and privy to the world's unfairness he can care less for the rules, though won't haphazardly break laws as long as they don't impede him or stop him from doing what he believes to be right. He trusts his mind and his own principles and will ultimately follow those before any orders. Normally he prefers to go by his surname rather than his given name, saving that for friends and family alone. A very goal-driven person, he will stop at nothing to achieve his desires. [attr="class","jsftb"] BIOGRAPHY Year 1004 ~ 1013 刀鍛冶の息子 | Katanakaji no Musuko | A Swordsmith's Son Born the second eldest of five children to the Muramasa Clan of Tetsu no Kuni. A renown family known for their impeccable swordsmithing techniques, Uemon was saddled with more responsibility as a child due to his need to assist his clan in their daily duties. From a young age he was taught the art of blacksmithing and this piqued his interest in other trades, crafts, and art in general. Though not a Ninja Clan like many other families the Muramasa historically have close ties with samurai and provided many a generation of warriors with their tools of war. Their progenitor, Muramasa Sengo was even elevated to the samurai caste himself though they were eventually stripped of that status nearly a hundred years after due to a regime change. Because of this proximity the children of the clan were allowed to train in the art of combat (mostly as a favor for the family's service). Uemon showed an aptitude for hand-to-hand combat as well as a middling ability with a blade and as a child dreamed of one day becoming a samurai and pledging his sword to a Daimyō... however like many dreams, his was crushed by cruel, harsh reality. Year 1014 刃についた血 | Ha ni Tsuita Chi | Blood on the Blade Upon returning home from a long day of gathering materials for his family's forge the young boy found the Muramasa home surrounded by a retinue of the Daimyō's men. His mother and siblings were all outside begging to be allowed entrance and weeping but for some reason were being denied entry by the armor-clad warriors. After approaching he quickly learned the truth— his father had been branded a traitor of Tetsu no Kuni and cut down without mercy inside of his own forge. Uemon pressed and demanded answers with tears in his eyes but was refused any further information. Without explanation or consolement the family's home was seized by the Daimyō's soldiers and the remaining family evicted. They were not even allowed to view the corpse. Taking refuge at a neighbor's house for the following days the grieving family was forced to watch as samurai stripped their home of all valuables, ore, and weaponry and leave it nothing more than a barren shack, forbidding anyone to enter on pain of death. In the coming days news was circulated that Muramasa Iemitsu the patriarch of the clan was declared a traitor to the Tetsu no Kuni. His alleged crime? Selling weaponry to enemies of the state. All living members of the clan were to be banished from the country never to return and anyone found harboring them would be found guilty of treason themselves and executed. Swiftly kicked out of their longtime neighbor's home the distraught family left the country with only the kindness of strangers to aid them on their journey. After many months of long travel the remnants of Iemitsu's family crossed the sea to find refuge in Sake no Kuni. However this was not the new home they had hoped for. They were poor, disgraced, and though Uemon's mother and siblings managed to get a new smithy up-and-running their tarnished reputation prevented them from gaining true patronage. Outraged and full of a burning desire for vengeance that he had never known before Uemon ran away from home. Dedicating his life to training in the art of chakra and learning all that he could in hopes of one day returning to Tetsu no Kuni and restoring his clan's good name. On his father's memory he vowed to find the truth of what happened that day... and to take revenge on those responsible. Year 1015 ~ Year 1019 研いでいない刃先 | Toide Inai Hasaki | The Unhoned Edge Though impoverished Uemon had a desire to learn that endeared him to mentor figures throughout the years. Soon after leaving home he encountered a lone rōnin traveling in disgrace much like himself. Without a second thought he challenged the ex-samurai to a duel in hopes of reclaiming some shred of respectability for his family's name. He lost spectacularly. After the short and decisive bout the swordsman revealed himself to actually be a woman in disguise. As is common practice for dishonored samurai she refused to give her true name, answering only to 'Hanagisa'. She noted the youth's passions and devotion to his goal after listening to his enraged threats and took pity on him, sparing him on a whim. Pointing out the fact that he would surely die if left to his own devices she let him tag along with her but assured him that one day she would cut him down. Motivation to fuel his flame. During this time he found and rescued two small puppies, one with pristine white fur and the other disheveled black fur. Both strays as he came across them whining over the body of their mother. Hanagisa suggested they may have wild blood in them based on their appearance and noted that they were malnourished and sick. She said it would be more merciful to let nature take its course but he refused, attempting to care for them for weeks. Both eventually passed despite his best efforts. These two canines would leave a lasting impression on him and come to inspire some of his works later on in his life. Years passed and whether out of boredom or curiosity Hanagisa began schooling him in the art of warfare on their travels. Strategy, philosophy, swordplay, applications of chakra, all things any warrior needed to know. The entire time always making sure to remind him of her vow to kill him. Fortunately she never acted on it but during their training she came close many times over. Hanagisa became both a mentor and a mother figure to the youth and perhaps, in his eyes, something more entirely. They bonded over their shared history and though she never admitted it a mutual compassion for one another bloomed. She was his master, a surrogate parent, companion, confidant, and perhaps in the end something much more. But all things end. One day she left, leaving only a note claiming she had nothing more to teach him and that she had gone to settle 'a matter of honor'. Uemon heard talk of a woman samurai being slain in a duel somewhere in Hi no Kuni but never was able to confirm it. Once again he was alone. With nothing but his vendetta for warmth. Year 1020 ~ Year 1022 無研鋼 | Mu Kenkō | Unpolished Steel Sneaking aboard a ship headed back west the Muramasa boy happened upon a drunken ninja who was also stowing away. At first he considered him to be a wastrel. Some washed-up shinobi roving from place to place without cause or care and he wasn't wrong in this respect. However after spending some weeks hidden away in the hold together he picked up on the stranger's unique applications of chakra. With nothing better to do he implored the man teach him. Finding the youth's grit entertaining he accepted, introducing himself simply as Suppa. He taught him advanced methods of molding chakra and imparted as best he could the concepts of Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu. Building on the rock solid foundations Hanagisa had instilled in him. Even after their ship arrived in port the two continued to travel together, with Uemon constantly hungering for more knowledge. More power. During this time he trained in stealth and the usage of ninja tools as well as the subtler arts of deception and spycraft. After some months together he eventually learned that the man was a rogue ninja from Takigakure no Sato in Bonchi no Kuni. Muramasa did not ask why he left his village as he decided that it didn't matter to him so long as he helped him further his development. As the years went on and he cemented his knowledge of the fundamentals it was time to decide what he should focus on. Suppa suggested Bukijutsu as it was the obvious choice given his past and affinity for close combat but Uemon adamantly refused. With the exception of one he despised samurai. The rogue noted that even if he became a master in one field the likelihood of him defeating an entire army of samurai and their lord was nil. After much deliberation he simply responded "I need my own army, then." Amused, Suppa bequeathed to him an old scroll he had in his possession explaining the art of puppetry. To him it was a useless practice best saved for cowards... but paired with a sharp mind it might be just the thing Uemon needed. Years of excruciatingly slow training was the only way for him to learn and he was mostly left to extrapolate advanced concepts on his own. Uemon combined his fledgling knowledge with his sharp wit and love of crafting to develop his own version of the Kugutsu no Jutsu. Using his skills in smithing, forging, and carpentry he built the first of his Beast Puppet creations, two wolfdogs made of wood and iron. In and Yō, one white, one black. At first they resembled puppies and were very crude, but over the years after rebuilding and modifying them many times over they became true beasts. With faux fur, fangs and claws made of black iron, and compartments for traps and hidden weapons. These two creations served him faithfully and his skills grew sharper with each passing day. It was only a matter of time before he set his sights back on his home. To Tetsu no Kuni. And its tyrants. Year 1022 血と鉄 | Chi to Tetsu | Blood and Iron Seeing that his pupil had grown into his own and set his course firmly on his goal Suppa bade him farewell when he turned eighteen. He was never fit to be a teacher and had his own musings to attend to. Both of them parted on good terms and went their separate ways. Suppa likely returning to his life of vagrancy and Uemon deciding to head west in search of further improvement. There was still a long way to go before he was ready to return home and he needed to sharpen his skills in real conflict to make any true progress. He had seen firsthand the life of those who lived outside of the shinobi system and knew there were places he could apply his craft. So with his ultimate goal still at the forefront of his mind even after all of these years he set out on his own. No longer merely some stray child with something to prove to the world. Instead... a man on a mission. [attr="class","jsftb"] FIGHTING STYLE A thoughtful fighter, Uemon is never one to charge in recklessly. Instead relying on his sharp mind and tactics to see him through. Deception, misdirection, underestimation— all powerful allies he employs. His main method of combat is Puppet Ninjutsu, which he utilizes alongside his own handmade Beast Puppets to deliver serious wounds from afar and control the battlefield. Like many others, his puppets have trick compartments containing ninja tools, traps, poisons, and hidden weapons allowing him to surprise opponents and apply pressure from a distance. He regularly uses stealth to mask his presence and equipment like bombs, makibishi, shuriken, kunai, and explosive notes to sow confusion in his enemies. One of his biggest advantages is his skill in Taijutsu. While many puppeteers are lacking when it comes to hand-to-hand combat and content to hide behind their creations, Uemon has trained extensively in close quarters fighting and uses this fact to surprise anyone good enough to close the distance on him. Trained in the samurai martial art of Jujitsu Uemon is more than capable of weaving together pinpoint punches, kicks, palm strikes, knees, tosses, and submission holds to gain the upper hand in close quarters. It is a fact that he obscures to further aid his element of surprise. Playing the part of the meek puppeteer to lull an opponent into a false sense of security. Even the sword he carries is deceptive, as his skill in Kenjutsu is average at absolute best. Agile and dexterous, he usually seeks to leverage his opponent's weight against themselves rather than rely on brute force. Ninjutsu is a tertiary skill for him, his own Fūton-aligned chakra nature helping to batter and rend opponents that he manages to pin down. Mostly he prefers to support his own Puppet Ninjutsu through use of deceptive techniques like the Bunshin no Jutsu, Kawarimi, Henge, Shunshin, and other means. Genjutsu is his weakest area by far though he hopes to account for this with further training.
