louds hung heavily in the sky, casting the snowy ground in grey shadow. Wind was slow and the air wasn't humid, so the chances of a storm seemed low, but it was still gloomy, and without the sun beating down the earth was even colder than usual. Today was the perfectly miserable kind of day for a snowy hiking trip.

Mishima Doppo, one of the village's sensors, stood at the gate waiting for his student to arrive. Doppo had volunteered to do many of these sorts of field trips, since it was very hard for him to get lost. He was good at keeping his bearings and many of the young students found him to be a gentle presence - he wasn't the sort of teacher students were intimidated by. In fact, even enemies found Doppo hard to be intimidated by. He had an awkward and anxious presence and while he waited for Kiyuki, he looked at the list in his hands, running over the supplies he'd brought over and over again.

He had lots of bags with him, but it was difficult to discern what they were just from looking.

Yuki Kiyuki, as the name implied, was a member of the Yuki clan. That was about all he knew about her, though it was enough - as a member of the Yuki clan, she could resist the cold significantly better than most other shinobi. That was one less thing to worry about, but also even more reason to teach her about wilderness survival. Yuki shinobi were worked hard in all kinds of weather.

When Yuki Kiyuki arrived, did she do it on time or fashionably late? Did she bring anything with her, or did she leave all the packing to her assigned sensei?

- are you holding your breath again? -

Kiyuki was always one who arrived on time and today was no exception, as a Shinobi of the village in the snow she held herself to a higher standard, especially considering she was also apart of the Yuki clan. Not only did she hold herself to a higher standard due to the fact she was from the Yuki clan. But, due to the fact that the snow woman was also from the clan and her goal was eventually to become the leader of the village, she had to always be on time, practical you name it and this was no exception!

Yuki was also one that never let anyone else handle things that she could handle on her own. She was a Shinobi when she graduated she wouldn't have someone there to hold her hand, etc. She had to be prepared for anything so it was something she took upon herself to learn early on during her training. She didn't want to miss anything because, before she knew it she would be assigned a team once she was finished here and she didn't want to hold her team back. That was just not her style. She was a leader and she wanted to prove it as early as her academy days.

Once she had all her stuff for this hike on her back she took off and it didn't take her long, once she arrived, which according to her timing with plenty of time to spares she walked up to sensei Mishima Doppo or rather just Sensei Mishima and looked around, was she that early? She didn't see anyone else but him and her and blinked this seemed a little odd but she figured she would speak to see if she was wrong. "Uh, Sensei Mishima? Am I early or am I the only one who agreed to this?" Kiyuki asked as she was honestly a little confused, did she do something wrong and leave TOO early? this was concerning her

rriving right on time, Kiyuki made her appearance. He looked up to greet her, though was a little surprised by her question. She wanted to know if anyone else would be tagging along. Not this time, unfortunately.

"It seems like you were the only one who wanted to participate in this round. We do these pretty frequently, so I guess some students decided they wanted to wait until later," he said, with a sort of apologetic smile. Most students would probably hope to go on this kind of excursion with their classmates so they had some way to pass the time, not be stuck with some anxious teacher alone for the entire trip. "But- but that means you have my undivided attention for this entire camping trip, which means you can ask me anything and everything there is to know about wilderness survival," he assured her, not wanting to seem discouraging.

Putting away his checklist for now and rifling through one of his bags, he pulled out a map.

"Have you ever been outside the village before?" A lot of academy students were born and raised in Yukigakure, so some had never been out into the tundra. But many members of the Yuki clan were born in fishing villages across the island, so it was hard to know which was the case.

"We're going to make the trek from here to Hyōketsu," he would tell her, showing her his map so she could follow along. Hyōketsu was a small logging village west of Yukigakure, surrounded by thick woods.

While Kiyuki was a little torn on this. On one hand she was glad that she was the main student here because that meant any questions she might have for her Sensei meant that she could ask all on her own no interruptions. However, on the other hand she was a little upset because that meant not everyone was taking their studies as an academy student seriously. It really irritated her when people didn't but, you know what that was fine because that meant she could make sure they lessons for today stuck, and that in the long run was what mattered.

"
No Sensei, I've wanted to but, no one ever seemed to take me." She explained when she was asked if she had ever been outside the village before. It was irritating as well considering her goal she was going to need to be outside the village a lot but, no one ever did. SO the fact that this sensei was taking his time to do so put her at the top of her favorite sensei list but, that would be something for another time. Right now they were eon this field trip and she was more then ready to show what she had learned.

She was slowly handed a map and pointed out to where they were heading causing her to nod, trying to keep her excitement to a losw stable point. Why? cause she didn't want to seem too excited, even though she was because like she said, she had never been outside the village. Yet, the possibility of being outside the villiage or seeing anything of the sort outside her classes, her home it was exciting. "
Alright, lets go going." She stated with a grin looking forward to seeing what the outside of this village looked like, what she would be defending.

hen Kiyuki was ready to go, Doppo nodded, rolling up his map and tucking it away. He grabbed the bag he had packed, almost losing his balance under the weight of it before managing to sling it over his shoulder and right himself. He let out a relieved sigh and tried not to seem embarrassed about the mishap before starting on the road.

As the exited the village, they would pass through the western village gate. This was not one of the busier gates, so they were able to pass through unencumbered, showing their mission papers to confirm that their exit was required so that this could be documented. As they stepped out through the high and sturdy gates, they were greeted with an expansive white plain of snow.

It shone brightly, reflecting the sun above with glistening beauty, though it was also so bright it could almost strain the eyes. Doppo squinted, the glare reflecting off his glasses, but he didn't complain. Instead he smiled at Kiyuki as he began to lead the way towards the woods.

"Alright, we'll begin our wilderness survival lessons now. Number 1: The most important thing is preparedness. People are hardy, but being lost in the wilderness unexpectedly can be incredibly deadly if you're not ready. Whenever you're going on an extended mission, you want to make sure you bring with plenty of water and rations. Now you might say - 'why water? There's snow all over the place, and I'm a member of the Yuki clan, so I can even make snow.'

However, when you're lost in the wilderness, you need to try to conserve your chakra in case you come into a fight. You don't want to waste it on extraneous techniques if you can avoid it. As for snow you can find in the wilderness, you don't want to eat that either unless you're truly desperate. Snow takes a lot of energy for your body to melt into drinkable water. You're a Yuki clan member, so that won't cause you to develop hypothermia, but if you're traveling with other teammates, it could kill them. Snow can also, uh, contain diseases that might make you sick. If you want to make sure snow is safe to drink, you'll need to make a campfire and boil it first."

Here he would pause to see if she had any questions.

Kiyuki listened to her sensei making mental notes, survivial was espically needed on long missions, that much she knew from her time in school. It was definitely something she was glad about taking this little trip on. When she finally graduated, which if she recalled wasn't that far away she just had a few things to learn before she could finally learn everything she needed. She would be joining a team of fellow new ninjas. Not everyone would have the benefit of being apart of the Yuki clan. While she wished that it wasn't her clan that made her stand out a times, when it came to the cold harsh winters it was true. Nothing she could do would change that and learning this valuable piece of information would make her that much more useful for her team upon graduation. Nothing she could ever do would change that. Every Shinobi brought something to the team and Kiyuki would be no different. She had a dream after all, one she indeeded on seeing through until the very end.

"I didn't know that about snow but, that makes a lot of sense. Plus when we are out on missions your right, we need to conserve chakra because who knows how long we will be out on missions. Days, months, who knows so conserving it is the best way we can go about things." Kiyuki stated with a small smile. She was showing her knowledge that she had gained from the academy and that she was still willing to learn no mater what happens she will have much to learn as a Shinobi as she waited for her sensei to continue.

"Diseases so while it might be fine for say someone like me from the Yuki clan, it could be dangerous for my fellow Shonobi out on a mission, got it. Thank you Sensei." Kiyuki said with a bow of her head and waited for them to move on showing respect and also showing she was taking everything into account with this trip. She wanted to be sure she was ready for anything that came her way once she left. The Academy was protection but, once she left, it was a life or death situation as a Shinobi.

he young lady absorbed the information well. She even seemed to respect his opinion on things and didn't question what he had to say - maybe he should work with academy students more often! If he'd told some of the shinobi he usually worked with not to eat snow while on a mission, they probably would've ignored him or laughed at him, truthfully. Not all shinobi were great seekers of knowledge, unfortunately. It was good that Kiyuki was. It would keep her safe on the field.

Since she didn't have any questions about that element of the lesson, he decided to move onto his next lesson.

"Lesson Number 2: Navigation is incredibly important. The worst thing you can do when you're already off-track is get yourself even more lost. It's a good idea to learn how to read your environment."
He pointed up at the sky.

"The sky is a really good, consistent way to navigate. The sky rises in the east and sets in the west. And, at approximately midday, it'll be in the south. If you know what time of day it is, you can estimate the cardinal directions and use that to lead yourself. It's even easier to navigate at night, but I'll show you that once the sun sets. For now, do you think you could use the sun to figure out which way we should be going?"

It was bright and early in the morning, so the sun was still in the east, though it was heavily obscured by cloud cover. The duo were headed west.
