Wooden clacks filled the air in rhythmic patterns near the shinobi academy. Kaito and Saito stood within a thinly drawn circle in the academy, their boken bouncing off each other in set drills. The two had yet to even work up a sweat, yet Kaito’s eyes were alight with passion. Sure the drills were repetitive and somewhat boring- but Kaito knew this was the foundation which he could use to become a legendary swordsman! Just a few more of these, and Kaito was certain they could outclass most of their fellow students.[break][break]

Kaito and Saito had been in the training grounds of the academy for quite a while. The two were often seen lingering around the practice areas given it was one of the few times they were allowed to actually utilize their blades. In the training grounds they trained with wooden safe blades, as opposed to the blunted but properly shaped metal ones they used at the Futago complex. But alas this was their week with the other half of the family. So Kaito had suggested they linger just a short while longer to fit as much combat training in. So, starting again, Kaito would go high, knowing Saito would block with a horizontal brace, before moving to block the follow up stomach slash he knew would follow.

It was such a simple training exercise for the two boys. Repetitive nature of attacks and going back and forth for long periods as needed. While not as exuberant as normal or having full theatrics as normal it was what they both needed to do to use the hijutsu they so desperately needed to learn to get the edge on their fellow academy students. Saito being the more level-headed of the two, but by no way normal like other students, certainly did his best to keep his more energetic brother in check. Making sure the drills were abided to without too much distraction though there were times even Saito couldn't help and get into character like his brother. It was a bond they shared that could never be taken away.[break][break]

While this training session was forcing them to only use the dull wooden weapons the academy wanted them to use it would still provide contextual help once they brought in their real blades to battle. Back home it would be different with metal clashing and clanging against each other when they trained, but now it was merely clunks and dull strikes from the two boys. At least when using the training tools if they got a hit on each other they wouldn't have to worry about hurting each other outside of splinters and bruises so being a little reckless in their strikes wasn't fully unexpected from them. Going back and forth with strikes and defense Saito would find himself defending against Kaito's high strike then quickly transitioning to a horizontal slash to Kaito's core. With no intention of actually hitting his brother, he was doing this to tire his twin out. Saito figured this training was a great way to activate their hijutsu since the process was used in adrenaline rushes and if his reading was correct it would mean they would hit that threshold faster if they got tired. He would also of course want to taunt his brother to give it his all so Saito would say, "Do thou wish to raise the white flag of surrender for surely thy footing is becoming stagnate."

Kaito had to admit the dull thuds that came from wooden 'blades' bouncing off of each other. Something about the almost solid mass failed to capture the reverberations of true metal clashing against the other. Not to mention that the sound of running metal on stone was vastly superior to that of wood dragging upon the ground. But the 'safer' weapons allowed what most considered more minor injuries than the blunted weapons they'd be allowed at the Futago estate, limiting themselves to bruises and splinters that if properly tended to would result in simple pangs of pain when utilized. Yet the point of these exercises were to prepare them for a true battle, and in such battles one would be lucky to merely receive a splinter. Kaito knew deep in his own mind that he could take far more than this! But, alas, this teachers didn't see it that way; Kaito being the universal standard for everyone else and nothing more. It was a travesty being surrounded by the jealous and prideful.

Almost instinctually, Kaito's blade had already begun its circle to push his brother's strike away, pushing the blade away from his body before swinging at his twin's shoulder. The drills were simple; no room for variation as it was to get simple attacks and areas of defense memorized as reflexes. So often Kaito wanted to throw his brother off rhythm, mix up the predictable slashes and attacks, but such an act would defeat the goal of this practice. Such ideas were especially easy to give into when Saito chose to taunt him, the bolder sibling returning the jab with a small chuckle. If that was how it was going to be... well there was no rule for how fast he was allowed to strike. "I'd be more careful of your positioning, young brother!" With that, Kaito would abruptly increase the force behind his attack, increasing his own speed as he allowed his body weights to add to the force of the blow.

His taught wouldn't go unnoticed so it was expected of his brother to retaliate. The flurry of blades increased rapidly as Kaito was now pushing his brother back with even greater fluidity showing the sheer difference in their builds and training. Saito being the more methodical one of the two certainly had a better grasp of the basics and theory of their fighting, but he lacked the pure talent and sheer strength Kaito had so he was easily being pushed backwards by his brother. This of course wouldn't deter him as he would say, "Fret not for this twin has more than simple thrusts up his sleeve!" [break][break]

This was very true because with Kaito's next attack, Saito would parry it down and with his free hand he would grab onto his cape and toss it forward to blind his brother. He then swayed to the side and with the blunt end of his weapon knocked him on the shoulder before continuing his attacks. Trickery would always be the way he would fight since he lacked the physical skill and power that was needed to win in a fight so he would use it to his advantage as needed. However, winning wasn't the objective of this fight as the two were merely training with each other to improve their respective skills.
