There was time between the 2nd round and the 3rd round of the Chunin exams and Hotarubi had returned to Takigakure during the month long absence between the two. It had been an easy enough decision, knowing that combat was something to be likely. He had hoped on his return there would have been something for him to do that entailed combat, to give him that little bit extra of experience between then and the third round.] So - one could have imagined his surprise when seeing there were in fact, no dangerous missions instead. There was a retrieval mission, which made him incredibly grumpy but nonetheless it was a task for him to practice... well whatever the fuck it was. Making a scythe with his arm to cut herbs? Tweezers? Man. This sucked. But still, since this didn't have the danger he was able to helpfully do it by himself - there being a current shortage meant that he had left Takigakure no Sato in the early morning to get to his destination for a type of fungus that was apparently good at speeding up wounds - using a sort of symbiosis. Unfortunately, it had a poor shelf life, and it grew inconsistently. So... he was given an approximate area, which ended up being quite a huge area. So- out he was, walking through the jungle, trudging - one arm had turned itself into a scimitar of sorts to cut through anything that got in his way, but right now he wasn't going through any thickets. Boring, boring boring boring boring boring boring. Money was always fine, though. It gave him an opportunity to think about some of the mental stuff. Like why did it feel so good to show everybody up? When they expressed their dismay, why did that please him? Well. In some events it didn't - he hated the feeling of Atagi's arms crunching inside his body, but there were things he did appreciate... And he needed to take some time to figure that out.
