[Souzouteki Emi]

There had been a small collapse at one of the less populated mining sites north of Kuwana, an incident that had slightly injured several of the workers and halted their work pulling materials from the ground. Calling in support from Iwagakure, the nation had dispatched two shinobi to take care of the subject.

Their task was simple - check on and help patch up the minor injuries of the workforce, then explore the now-precarious mine and inspect it for safety concerns before returning it up to code.

Emi left the village rarely, but as a representative of the Guardian Corps he had a sufficient skill in doton to be incredibly useful in situations like these. His companion for this mission was one Okada Chie, a member of the medical corps. Emi had not worked with her before, but he knew Okada Taki, and had even worked with her to help design the logo for one of the recent gyms the Okada had built.

As the two began to approach the small mining village, Emi would eye the environment with great curiosity, trying to commit the details to memory so he could sketch them out later. He had a habit of keeping record of his missions both in writing and in drawing.

Speaking up softly, he would ask Chie,

"Do you have any experience with doton techniques?" It would probably be a good idea to get to know his teammate before they actually got into the village.

Missions weren't particularly Chie's specialty nor did she partake in them very often due to the fact she was always more concerned with trying to learn more medical technics and helping her father out in his career, but now and then she would take on one here and there. This was one of those times. A collapse of a mine had happened north of Kuwana and Chie's ability as a healer would be needed along with the help of another ninja for the excavation of any possible minors. This also included the inspection of the mines to make sure it was in stable enough condition for the workers to get back to their job. So a double-duty job for Chie and her partner.[break][break]

Speaking of partners she was assigned to work with a member of the guardian corps a man whom she never met personally had helped out the clan here and there so he had some familiarity with her clan. He was still an outsider in her mind, but she was willing to work with him since it didn't seem like he would pose a threat to her father's ambitions like other people might. So she would do her best to be a decent mission partner for the stranger. [break][break]

As they approached the mining village they would try and strike up a conversation with him asking her if she had experience with doton techniques to which she answered, "Not really. More of a full medical shinobi than a normal ninjutsu user." This was the truth as her kit was very much made for support than anything else. "So I expect we will have to rely on you for any situation required with the use or understanding of Doton techniques," Chie would add trying to keep things cordial and not be aggressive or dismissive of her mission partner.

Chie answered his question, revealing that she pretty much exclusively utilized medical techniques and wouldn't be able to help much on the doton front. That was alright. This was his area of specialization, so he'd do fine handling all of that on his own while Chie handled the rest. He nodded.

"I can do that. Once we get to the site, I'll start working on stabilizing the mine right away while you deal with the injuries. That way no one else will get hurt. Once we have both situations under control, we can go through and look for any other safety concerns in the mine." Usually he would be more of a follower than a leader on missions like this, but it seemed like Chie might not be especially social, so he would happily take the role of planning.

As they reached the edge of town, Emi moved ahead a bit, willing to take up the front on conversation even if he wasn't the most socially eloquent himself. Scanning the occupants of the mining site, Emi would pick out who looked to be high in the chain of command, likely the mining foreman, and approach him.

"Hello. We're shinobi from Iwagakure," he greeted. He spoke in a kind of stilted way, though at least professional. "Could you show us to the ones needing treatment?"

"Sure," the man responded, stopping what he was doing to come over to give them direction. "We appreciate you coming out. The mine had been stable for a while now. We're not really sure what caused the cave-in, but it surprised us all. We managed to dig everyone out, luckily - but a couple of the guys got pretty banged up."

Her partner seemed to have a good eye for seeing this efficiently as much as possible with his response which did put a small smile on her face. Maybe this mission wouldn't be so bad with them there since it might mean they could get this done and over with rather quickly. If so Chie might be more inclined to do more missions with them afterward, but she would have to see how the mission goes to determine that fact. Still, it was nice to know he could be someone she could rely on for the mission.[break][break]

"Understood," Chie would say not adding too much to the conversation still a bit wary of her new partner but willing to work with them as needed. This also meant they were going to be the head of this mission taking the reigns for conversations and making sure the mission was accomplished. This was fine with Chie since it meant she was doing the supportive role she was used to and would do things as instructed much like the books she read when learning her medical techniques. Familiarity was something she was fine with and glad to see even on a mission.[break][break]

So when they reached the foreman, or leader, of the miners he was the one to introduce them and ask for where the workers who needed treatment were. Still staying pretty silent Chie would follow along till they were escorted to the injured and went straight to work. Her eyes scanned over each person to see which were the most damaged and who needed treatment the most. For the most part, no one was in too much danger of needing emergency medical care, but if left untreated some of them could lead to that point.[break][break]

"Move aside," Chie would say to a few workers who were huddled around one particular worker who suffered a rather deep cut in their leg most likely from being trapped under a rock and scraping it when being taken out of the rubble. She could go for the simple bandage and ointment route, but she did feel it might be better to get this one wound, in particular, closed as soon as possible to avoid it from getting worse. "Here squeeze this," she would say to the man and hand him a bandage roll. "This is going to hurt, but try not to squirm a bit," she would add as she began weaving her chakra into the man and began cauterizing his wound. Her hand would glow blue as it began to close the wound stopping it from further infection. [break][break]

Once completed she would then grab the roll she gave the man and wrap it up along with some of her antiseptic salve just in case it tried to open. "Keep him away from extraneous movement for a few days as it heals," she would say washing her hands from the blood that did attach itself from the surgery before heading to the next patient. She would address her mission partner and say, "If you want to head into the mines to start clearing out the area I shouldn't be too far behind. Most of these men seem to have minor if not superficial injuries so this shouldn't take me too long before I can catch up." This was a sign to show she was confident in her abilities as a healer and that she was putting trust in him to get things started on the more strenuous part of their mission.

Chie got to work right away, hopping to patching up the most severe of the wounds, a large laceration in one of the men's legs. Emi was not a medic by any stretch and knew very little about medical treatment, so watched with some quiet fascination as her hand glowed blue and she cauterized the wound.

The man grimaced, gritting his teeth and gripping at his seat, though he restrained himself from reacting beyond that, allowing her to patch him up. It was amazing the kinds of things a person could endure to keep living...

When that was done, she instructed him that he could go on ahead to the mines. He regarded her uncertainly for a second - teammates weren't often supposed to split up on missions. But she seemed in her element and would be ready to catch up in short time, so he eventually nodded. Wordlessly, he stepped away to go to the mine.

The foreman helped lead him down to the mine.

"Be careful around here. There's still a lot of rubble from where the collapse happened."

"Keep everyone back," Emi said. "I'll start by clearing the rubble so we can get a better look at what happened."

The foreman nodded, heading away to let the miners know to keep clear of the entrance.

Emi walked into the dusty mine, stopping to zip up his jacket to cover the bottom half of his face, so he wouldn't breathe in as much dust. He placed his hands on the ground, starting to lift the stones inside from the earth and shuffle them out. He took it slow to be sure he wouldn't hurt anyone, and also to avoid tiring himself out too early.

Her teammate was cooperative which was good which meant there wouldn't be any unnecessary drama in this mission. This man, despite only knowing him for a short period, was proving to be quite dependable and honestly someone Chie could trust and count on for a mission partner. She would still withhold judgment till the mission was complete of course, but for now, he seemed to be on a good footing for a mission partner. So for now while he went to the mines she would focus back on the injured miners. [break][break]

Her next few victims were very minor bruises and sores so they didn't need much attention outside of double checking they were ok. After that two men needed some splints for their legs which she made out of wood from broken shovels nearby. Once the majority of the more severe injuries were taken care of she would wipe the sweat from her brow and look around at all the patients she helped. "Alright that should be all those who need my help," Chie would say looking for the foreman to join her mission partner in the mine.[break][break]

Once she found them and was directed to the mine she would find her partner not too far from the collapse point. Making sure her outfit was secure, mostly the red scarf so it didn't get in the way, she tightened her gloves and said, "Alright direct me on which rocks we should move first." She decided it would be best to let him decide on which rocks to move due to the sensitive nature of moving rocks in an area that could re-collapse. Didn't want to accidentally pull a rock that might force a second collapse leaving them injured or buried.

Though he made good progress alone, Emi was also a little bit of one to space out. With the idle way he was working, he probably didn't clear quite as much ground as he could've if he'd focused up. Maybe that was better for his chakra expenditure in the long run.

Eventually Chie came to join him, having finished up her work patching up the miners who had gotten injured. She asked where she should start on clearing the rocks. He stopped his own work, looking at the collapse to try to determine the best spot.

"...What I've moved so far has loosened some smaller rocks there on the right. Try to start with those," he directed.

He took two of the large rocks he'd been moving and used his doton to stretch the rocks upwards, kind of using them as pillars to prop up the roof of the mine. Just to provide some amount of stability and security.

"If anything starts shifting or feels like it might collapse again, stop what you're doing right away and back up quickly," he warned her. Emi had doton on his side, so might be able to deal with rocks collapsing over top of him. And he liked to imagine he could protect Chie if something like that happened. But he didn't want to take the chance if he didn't have to.

Upon taking a closer look at the area Chie could determine that there wasn't too much done while she was out helping the miners. That being said he was only one person so it was probably asking a lot for the majority of the mine to be cleared by him and him alone so she pushed these thoughts out of her mind fairly quickly. Instead she would simply follow his orders as she intended to at the beginning of this mission. being directed to an area where smaller rocks were located she would grab a few that were safe to grab and bring them to a pile on the side.[break][break]

After a few minutes of getting the loose ones, she wondered if maybe she could help out with identifying some of the more stuck ones. "I wonder," Chie would ponder aloud as she dug into her pockets and pulled out her eye scope. "I wonder if we can use this to identify which rocks are ones keeping the cave stable?" Chie would look at her partner with a very quizzical look as she placed the eye scope on her eye and began examining some of the rocks. being able to see closer into the cracks of the rocks to notice which ones were not even connected and which others were very much being held by each other. Finding one that she felt was safer to grab, but wasn't as loose looking as the ones he directed her to earlier she grabbed it and felt a small shift in the rocks, but not enough to warrant danger. Moving the rock to the side like before she would turn to her partner and ask, "There seems to be some risk in using it so if you feel it's too dangerous to use we can go back to doing this manually." Chie was going to value her partner's input on this idea as it could lead to their safety being put in danger if it doesn't work out.

Getting into a rhythm, Emi worked very mechanically on grabbing and slowly displacing rocks, putting up new stone supports wherever he could to avoid collapses and to stabilize the stones. He worked in sections, and was very good at simply zoning out and performing repetitive tasks - honestly, there was a certain interest in the way the stones overlapped, and if he was by himself, he'd be content to do this for hours.

Then Chie spoke up and suggested a way to do this more efficiently. She had an eye scope that she used to identify the stuck rocks and work around them in a more efficient pattern. She caused the rocks to shift slightly, but nothing dramatic. It was a little risky, but... Well, being a little risky could be alright sometimes. It was just making sure that riskiness was applied in a manner efficient enough to justify itself.

"You can use it. I think we could... eh..." He contemplated for a second. He was a person who was best at explaining things visually, so struggled to communicate his ideas as much through conversation.

"If you use it to... find the point that most rocks seem to be jammed at... I could probably use doton to break up that connection and loosen all of the rocks without them falling on us, then transport them all out at the same time."

He'd be pretty chakra-exhausted afterwards, though.

It wasn't a bad idea, but much like she thought there were risks involved so maybe it wasn't such a good idea.
