Emi was usually the responsible sort, but sometimes he could be a bit unobservant, or at least not consider his actions carefully enough. That was how the situation had escalated. While he was searching an entrant to the village's bags, he had come upon a small serpent. He hadn't reacted quickly enough to the sight. He saw snakes all the time - sat beside them and painted them on the rocks outside the village - so instead of thinking of the threat, he thought of the interesting color of its scales, the shape of its head. He didn't think of the fangs until they were biting him on the soft web of his hand.

Whatever venom the small serpent delivered was potent and painful. So while his ally at the gate handled taking care of the entrant, they also called in support to rush Emi to the hospital.

Gripping his hand, Emi felt a sweat beading on his brow. He'd been injured before. He fought in the civil war. He'd been through pain. Still, it was odd how this felt. There was something totally unique about the pain of poison and venom. Pain all the way up the limb, like fire. His breathing sticking in his throat.

He was delivered to the treatment room of one of the medical corps, Nōhime Reiko. He sat down and tried to remain calm and steady despite his vision swimming.

"I was... bitten by a snake," he informed her, now that he was left in her care. "I'm not certain the name of it." He could draw it if given the opportunity, but his hand... "It was bright green with bands of a darker green and not very long."

Does one truly know how to be perfect? To be without fault? Surely people do not, since her time working in the Tsuchi no Kuni hospital, Reiko has seen time and time again the fallacy of humans. She finds mistakes others make with a sneer and her words are nearly never remotely kind. Even if she tries faking it for the sake of professionalism, the kind words from Reiko are rather disingenuous. Many days, the adolescent dreams of shedding her mortal shell and transcending into the perfect organism. But, what that looked like, she would be lying if she had a clue. Despite this, she believes that her clan's greater-than-average, almost perfect chakra control places them as a runner-up. Reiko does believe that because of this, she shouldn't make mistakes. No one in her clan should, mistakes are what humans make. Yet, there is no evidence that the perfect being, whatever it might be, is infallible. She strongly believes that it simply does not.

So, how does a perfectionist work at a hospital filled with imperfections? One would think Reiko is humble, forgiving, and maybe even kind for it. While these traits do lie within, they are not the reason she chose to work here. It is very much because she wants to learn from the mistakes of others so she does not make the same mistakes as others. So when the small practitioner got notified her services were requested, she smiled knowing she was going to find out another mistake to learn from. Reiko went into her smaller office room, over the fact that her space is smaller than more experienced physicians, and waited for her time to shine. When she saw the young man before her, Reiko noticed his sweat, the fact he was holding his arm and the two holes of what looked like a bite. Animal? Definitely bigger than insects... Already evaluating the patient before hearing his words, Reiko already perceived him as an idiot for just not reacting to whatever the hell happened. Then he started to speak, and her eyes just glared strongly at his lips.

Snake? Green snake? Gradient color?... Reiko rushed to her medical cabinet. "Consider yourself lucky we even have someone to treat this." She pulled out a small wooden cylinder and a blue band. She rushed over to the man and held the wooden block in front of his mouth. "If you want to see tomorrow, bite on this, your life literally depends on it." Reiko held it in front of his face for a few seconds. Anything longer than five seconds would see her using her free hand to clasp his nostrils shut, forcing him to open his mouth so she could place the cylindrical piece in his mouth so his teeth could hold it. Without wasting any more time, she weaved the seals as she flattened her hand and concentrated chakra formed around it. She grabbed the man's bitten arm and expertly cut his sleeves off, letting the scalpel dissipate as she wound and tied the band extremely tight on his forearm. "This is shino... what kind of shinobi can't react to a snake?!" As the tourniquet was tightened, Reiko could see that, at least for now, the toxin is slowed and didn't get far. "Bright green animals mean poison, this is universal to all animals." Reiko stated again in an angered tone. She was going to need to talk to Takara about an enforced animal safety course to all their shinobi. Reiko helped the man carefully up and looked in his eyes, "Follow my directions very carefully or you will die, so hold very, very still, stay calm, feel free to pass out, this will hurt. I have to restrain you to do this right, so just relax." The petite adolescent stated as she moved to try and restrain Emi tightly. "Still doing okay?"

Reiko wasn't listening for an answer, she was closely watching his body, mapping what exactly was the toxin affecting him. If it had an acute effect on his chakra network. She moved to grab a bag of IV fluid but she didn't have any other tools, she didn't need them. "I'll put the cylinder back, talk to me right now, what's your name, what village are we in, who is the Tsuchikage?" Reiko moved and prepared as fast as she could, his life quite literally depended on his cooperation, it could help in diagnosing what toxin was affecting him.

Jinton Duster

Hundreds of years upon years, a powerful Kekkai Tōta was passed down within the Nōhime clan. Jinton, Dust Release, the combination of Fūton, Katon, and Doton chakra natures. As dangerous and rare as it is, Reiko is truly blessed with the ability to harness and control this advanced nature as well as she does. Utilizing this affinity is even greater than the control of her other basic natures. Reiko shows an almost equal potential to that of her greatest and living predecessor.

Medical Knowledge

Reiko knows that as powerful as anyone is, even greater power comes from knowledge, and closing that off is a fool's folly. She hit the books at a young age, learning the anatomy of the human body, from fundamental cells to even the psychosocial analysis of mental states. This robust and thorough knowledge makes her not only skilled both in medicine of various fields but also in the application of treatment. Even if her medical jutsu tree isn't as expanse as others, her knowledge would be sure to circumvent that issue.

Atomic Mystic Control

Even easier to learn given that it is a naturally selected trait of being more capable of controlling one's chakra. The Nōhime pride themselves on an unnatural advantage in Chakra control, and of the Nōhime clan, Reiko boat greater pride in her ability given she uses it to access medical ninjutsu. Where her kin are more born as better conduits inertly, Reiko took her control a step further and trained to a point beyond normalcy. Even at her level, Reiko has an astonishingly low excess waste of chakra, and her ability to use the near exact amount of chakra only makes practitioners of greater skill and training see equal footing in Reiko where one expects inferior ability.

Jutsu(s) Used:
NAME: Chakura no Mesu - [Chakra Scalpel]
RANK: C
CHAKRA USAGE: Low [Continuous]
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]
REQUIREMENT: Enhanced Chakra Control
ELEMENT: N/a
HANDSEALS: 5
DESCRIPTION:
After forming the needed handseals, the ninja will focus chakra to his or her hands. When his or her charged hands reach the body of the target, the user can use it as a normal scalpel or even extend the chakra internally into the target's body to cut and neatly slice the target's muscles and blood vessels without harming the surface skin. This technique can be used in battle, but because of its hectic nature, the fine precision required for an instant kill is not feasible. Damage can still be done to the vital organs, but the technique should be used carefully in battle.

The doctor seemed quite agitated with him. Perhaps fairly. It was a silly thing to let happen, though Emi found little space to feel ashamed of it between the pain and trying to follow her words. She offered him a wooden bit to bite down on and he wouldn't make trouble about it at all, readily following her instruction to open his mouth. He was usually an obedient man, and had a good guess as it what it would be useful for anyways - a lot of medical procedures could be very painful. Even if she used a technique to dull the pain, he might need something to bite.

She worked efficiently, slicing off his sleeve and tying a band around his arm, presumably to stop the venom from spreading. He wished he could watch her actions more carefully so he could remember them in the future, but his brain felt a bit hazy.

Reiko complained, frustrated, as she worked. He knew that bright animals were dangerous, but he honestly simply hadn't thought about it at the moment. He couldn't explain himself with the cylinder in his mouth, though, so he kept quiet for the moment, just going along with the directions. He nodded to confirm that he was listening to her, then again to confirm he was okay. He took slow breaths, keeping calm.

Maybe strangely relaxed, even? The way he saw the situation was such - if he was stressed, his heart would race more, which would make the venom spread faster. And if he was going to die from the venom anyways, he would rather die calm. So it was in his best interest to assume he was in good enough hands not to be scared.

Allowing himself to be restrained, he was given a break from the wooden bit to talk to her. He took a breath, then, finally able to reply to her rambling, informed her,

"The snake was in someone's bag. They were trying to sneak it into the village. I handle snakes often, so I wasn't careful. Sorry. I'm Souzouteki Emi," he had to stop to take another shaky breath, fist curling. The venom made his arm feel like fire in sharp waves. It would ease for a minute and then become intense again. "We are in Iwagakure. The Tsuchikage is... Yutakako Takara."

It seemed the venom was mostly causing him pain. Maybe some difficulty breathing, if the winded way he was talking was any indication, though that also could've been a result of the pain itself.

Okay, so his name was Emi, now she knew what to call him when she need to yell at him directly. He was rather correct, he was not careful. She surmised that with the bag inspection, he was one of the gate guards; a diligent one would know NOT to get bitten by anything in a foreigner's back. She wanted to yell at him, but she wanted his answers, help deduce what he was experiencing. She was at work quickly and made hums to note she was listening despite doing everything to prepare for the procedure. One he finished, she could tell two things, it wasn't a neurotoxin and it hadn't taken a strong hold on him yet. That didn't lessen her pace. "Good. Nice to meet you, Souzouteki-san." Reiko simply stated to further him to remain calm, yet in her hurry to gather the equipment, she saw he was doing a good job at that himself. She was impressed, most were not calm, his approach was reassuring to say the least.

As she approached with an IV bag, a small tube tied to the bag and her hand, Reiko placed a delicate touch on his arm once she got to him. "Okay, I'm going to have to make an incision and flush your veins. The snake venom is a hemotoxin and causing you the pain. Once I start flushing, I'm going to release th tourniquet, you will feel discomfort and perhaps some pain during the forceful flush. This does come with a warning. Most all my operations have been successful. But if you move a way to constrict your veins, either the toxin will accelerate or internal ruptures may occur. These rarely happen anymore but I need to let you know this so you don't die on my watch." Reiko stated as she move her hand to form a finer chakra scalpel. "Also... bite." Reiko stated as she used her free hand to place the cylinder back. She made the incision right on the forced to bulge vein of his arm. With great care, the arm tied with a tube glew blue as the fluid began to leave the bag into his arm. She released the tourniquet with surgical scissors under the operating table in one of the drawers. Once done, she gently held his wrist to keep his arm in place for the technique to execute.

"Humans are fragile, death is inevitable, we delay it with our advances but nature always has its balance, whether we like it or not." The Chūnin enjoyed rambling, even if he didn't react or care, the soundboard was nice. "We live, do our tasks, and wither away. The balance is a beautiful yet frightening balance. The fact we are so evolutionarily defenseless may seem like a mistake, but our adaption is our intelligence. But, how far can our brains really survive when everything is far better equipped to kill us? We lack in every way, but our intelligence but do those really make us better? Do those, as my colleagues suggest, make us the perfect organism? I say bullshit." Almost still herself, Reiko trickled her chakra-covered fingers as the fluid drained into Emi and coursed through his system harder and faster than any other flush that maybe medically used, yet it was delicate enough to move through the cardiovascular system. "This venom, it doesn't feel coagulative yet but hopefully this flush will clear any buildup, might even unclog any arteries, so feel free to eat food to your delight." Reiko murmured, she wasn't really caring about that. In fact, she was still in disbelief that he let something so dumb occur. "But, let's be honest, if nature doesn't kill us, we either kill ourselves or each other." The adolescent continued to finely move the liquid within the man.

"Nod if you're still alive, you will start feeling the pressure of your veins lessen as I extract the venom and fluid, don't fret if you see blood, diseased blood has to be removed as well. Feel free to spit the cylinder out, and talk to assure me you are still with us." The young woman ordered as she glossed over the fact that this will be both relieving and painful to have something so forcibly ejected, but the guy didn't need to know that. But he just might if he felt her grip on his wrist tighten. "I don't believe humans can acheive the perfect state and immortality doesn't make you human... being invulnerable doesn't make you human. We have to live... or die... because of our imperfections. Humans fall, shinobi fall, and civilizations fall. What is the idea of a perfect organism to you?"

Jutsu(s) Used:
NAME: Saikan Chūshutsu no Jutsu - [Delicate Illness Extraction Technique]
RANK: B
CHAKRA USAGE: Medium [Low Continuous]
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]
REQUIREMENTS: Enhanced Chakra Control & Medical Training SAs
ELEMENT: N/a
DESCRIPTION:
When a person has been afflicted by a pathogen or toxin, this medical ninjutsu can be used to draw out the agent and heal the damage. The cause of the illness is first determined by perceiving disturbances in the patient's chakra. Then, using a chakra scalpel, an incision is made near the affected part. Using their chakra, the medical-nin pushes a large volume of a medicinal fluid through the incision. The fluid then draws the poison out of the affected part(s) and serves as a medium through which the poison is suspended and then forced out of the person's body. This technique thus removes the poison, while simultaneously repairing the damage caused by the poison. The process itself is extremely painful and requires the subject be restrained in order for the process to work.

After the agent is drawn out, it can be used to create an antidote or medicine after it has been analysed. This can then be given to the patient to ensure a complete recovery. This technique requires the utmost care and ability in diagnosis, incising and unmatched chakra control. Therefore, it is considered an extremely difficult technique, even among medical ninjutsu.

Describing the process she was going to use to help flush the toxins, she gave a warning. He needed to not move in such a way that his veins would be constricted while it was happening, or he could rupture something and potentially die.

"I'll hold still,"
he assured her. Then he was instructed to bite on the cylinder again. He bit down slightly when she performed the incision, breathing slowly through his nose. Though he'd been observing until now, he quickly got a little squeamish watching and elected to close his eyes. How odd. He wasn't usually bothered by this kind of thing, but maybe it was different watching it done on oneself.

She placed the IV bag and the fluid began to circulate. There was a rush of pain as it happened first, making him tense. He was careful not to tense that arm, gripping instead with his other arm, biting down hard on the bit. He made a low strained sound, breathing picking up, though he slowly calmed.

He tried to focus back in on Reiko speaking to distract himself from the cold sensation traveling up through his arm.

She talked a lot. He didn't really mind it - getting to know and understand people's philosophies was always interesting to him. Hers was a somewhat depressing one. He agreed with parts of it, but others he found himself not able to agree with at all. Human intelligence wasn't their only adaptation when chakra was an element to consider. Humans might not be equipped with claws, but they could be equipped with worse. Even if their lives were transient, so were the lives of other creatures... Humans did love to cause harm to each other, though.

He nodded when she asked him to, making another low sound of discomfort. He was alive. And the ejection process would start soon. He finally had permission to spit out the cylinder and reply to her, though her anticipated the next part of this process would probably be painful, too.

Still, he did let the cylinder fall out of his mouth, taking deep breaths for a second before answering her question.

"I... think seeking something perfect is useless... because the definition of perfect is so subjective,"
he provided, between his deep breaths. "An artist... can only try to capture what is perfect to them. To some, humans, even with... all their weaknesses... might already be perfect. To others... the perfect thing... might be a tree."

As for him?

"I guess my perfect organism... would be something fun but difficult to capture in a painting."
