[attr=class,opunkibulkrule]Shiori loved to train and was one to always be out and about doing something. From simple jogs around the village to helping others out that might require a bit of muscle work he was always there to help and grow. Today was not going to be one of those days. Well not exactly at least. To be precise he would be reflecting inward a bit more and trying to learn how to control his chakra. He honestly wasn't sure how to go about this as it wasn't something fully physical in the sense of muscle training in his mind. It was something more mental and he struggled with that from time to time. So it was going to be difficult to learn by himself and if he was honest he didn't even know where to start.

He considered the library to read up on chakra control, but he didn't like sitting still so that didn't seem like it would be a worthwhile venture for him. He thought about just trying to learn jutsu that older shinobi practiced to see if that could work such as the water walking technique or the tree climbing one, but he wasn't sure how to even begin learning that so what was he to do? He needed guidance from someone, but who? Was there anyone he could look towards easily that might be able to help him?

That was when he had an interesting idea. Why not ask those who had returned from the exams? The genin who worked so hard to become chunin, even if they didn't, had to have had someone who could control their chakra or at the very least had knowledge of that! Shiori did well with mentors after all as he liked being given orders so it seemed like a pretty good idea for him to try. So he would look around the village for one of them. Anyone it didn't matter which so long as he found one.

Eventually, he would find a blonde-haired boy whom he was pretty sure was one of the entrants. While he didn't know how the boy fared in the exams nor did know if the boy was still a genin or not Shiori saw this as an opportunity to learn so he approached him. Greeting the, oddly younger, boy with a smile he would ask, "I heard you were in the Chunin exams! That must mean you are very talented!" His excitement was obvious from the smile on his face. "Would you be willing to help me train on how to control my chakra?" he would add almost instantly in puppy-dog-like excitement.

Returning from the exams had been hard. The wounds he received had been long-healed by the medical shinobi there before he'd made the trip home, but recovering mentally was a totally different story. Junichi wasn't convinced he'd done a very good job at all. No matter the outcome, that didn't change how he felt about his own performance. Even Kenichi trying to encourage him and telling him he'd done his best did little for Junichi's listless mood.

One thing had become really clear to him in his time at the exams - he needed a lot more practice. He wouldn't ever be ready to be a good shinobi if he didn't dedicate even more of his time to training. So he headed out.

On his way towards the training grounds, he was suddenly approached by another boy about his age, with bright blue hair, talking about the exams and asking for help.

Junichi was really reluctant. At this moment, he felt like he was probably the worst possible shinobi to give advice to anyone. But... he wasn't one to turn someone away. He didn't want this guy going around without the tools he needed to succeed, and he definitely didn't want to disappoint someone who was giving him a puppy-dog look like that.

"Uh... Uhm," Junichi responded, thrown off by Shiori's enthusiasm. "Sure... I guess so," he agreed. Chakra control was probably the one thing he was really confident he could do well, actually.

"I was on my way to the training grounds, so we can go together and practice, uh, I guess... Do you... Are you still in the academy?" He asked.

[attr=class,opunkibulkrule]"Sweet!" Shiori would say when the blonde shinobi boy agreed to train him. It was great to have some guidance on this for improving as a shinobi, especially for someone who had a hard time doing things from a book or scroll. He could not sit still very easily so having instruction or even active training was more up to his speed. Though he was a bit surprised when asked if he was in the academy. Was there a reason behind that question? Well, whatever it didn't concern Shiori why the blond-haired shinobi asked him this so he would answer simply, "I am!"

Shiori would excitedly head to the training grounds as instructed by the blond-haired shinobi just ready to see how he was going to teach him how to control his chakra. Were they going to do some high-energy drills or even do something big and extravagant with their jutsu to demonstrate what chakra control could do? Shiroi wasn't sure what was in store for him, but no matter what the outcome would be he would be ready for it! Giving a salute to the now impromptu sensei Shiroi would say, "Ready whenever you are!" A sign of respect for the young shinobi for someone who was a rank higher than him in the shinobi hierarchy.

So he was still in the academy. That was important to know because it gave Junichi an idea of the level of techniques that he would probably know. Junichi and Kenichi had gone over the top and learned a lot in the academy to help practice their chakra control, but most academy students had very few techniques at their disposal. So Junichi would have to keep that in mind while helping Shiori learn.

Upon reaching the training grounds, Junichi would perform a few little stretches, working on warming up his wrists. It was an area often neglected, but if they were going to be forming a lot of hand seals, it was good to get the hands warmed up!

"So... the most brute-force way to practice chakra control is to just practice all of your techniques over and over again," he said. "What you do if you want to do that method is you gradually apply less and less chakra with each attempt and memorize exactly what the minimum you can get away with is. That's reliable, but not very... efficient."

Junichi held his hands in front of himself, in the ram seal.

"So the best way to increase your chakra control without having to do all that is to learn how to control the flow of your chakra. Uhm... have you ever done any meditation? I promise we won't do it the whole time."

[attr=class,opunkibulkrule]Shiori wasn't sure how to make out the suggestions he was given by the blonde-haired shinobi. On one hand, brute forcing was probably much more likely to be how he would learn to do things, but Shiori wasn't one to shy away from a challenge either. If this meditation thing the boy talked about could work he was willing to give it a try especially if it was for faster results. Especially because his knowledge of jutsu was only the academy techniques he had learned so far and while creating tons of clones would be possible it seemed like it would be a bit tedious of an endeavor for him to do.

Shiroi would tilt his head and ask the blonde, "What's meditation?" He had never heard the term before so he didn't know what it was about nor what it would entail. Was it some sort of mental exercise that people did to learn techniques better? If it was he was very much willing to learn how to do it especially if it meant it could improve his other training techniques. Shiori was open to trying new things all the time so even this meditation thing could be a fun learning experience for the boy.

Junichi was expecting a lot of things, like Shiori saying he hadn't meditated before, or complaining that meditation was boring, but he wasn't expecting for the other boy to have never heard of it at all. Maybe it wasn't something done in his home? The Yuie were all about rest and relaxation in many forms, so meditation had always been a little bit a part of his life.

How could he explain meditation in a way that would make it sound compelling to Shiori, then?

"Well... It's a method that helps you totally hone your focus and... get in touch with your chakra system," he explained. He sat down on the ground and crossed his legs, sitting up super straight.

"Basically, our bodies are constantly outputting low amounts of chakra. A good way to practice your chakra control and preservation is by tuning in to your chakra core and feeling for that flow, and then working on purposefully controlling it. The way that you are now, you're trying to use a technique and just using whatever chakra comes out. But if you have a purposeful control over your chakra flow, you waste a lot less," he said.

He closed his eyes.

"So you start by closing your eyes, and taking a deep breath, down into your stomach. And then you feel your chakra there, and try to imagine its flow."

[attr=class,opunkibulkrule]"Focus huh?" Shiori would repeat when the blonde-haired boy tried explaining what meditation was and honestly, Shiroi wasn't sure if that was something he could do. He was always moving and doing physical exercises so sitting still and concentrating on things was very hard for him. His mind wouldn't let him sit still most of the time. Even in the academy he always had to be doing something with his hands at the very least when the teachers would lecture so how was he supposed to do this meditating thing?

Still, it couldn't hurt to try though besides the boy said they wouldn't be doing this the whole time so maybe he had planned something extra exciting for Shiori afterward. Abit giddy to see what the latter was he followed along as instructed to the best of his ability. Sitting down he would close his eyes and try to mimic what the other boy was doing. His mind racing a thousand miles an hour as he was trying to figure out what his chakra felt like. What color was chakra even? Did it have a taste? Did that taste coincide with the color? Did everyone have the same type of chakra? What about the pathways were they all laid out the same in different people's bodies? What about people who weren't shinobi did they have chakra? What would happen if someone didn't have chakra? Was chakra like water in the body? He mentioned it had a flow so was it like a river? Did it have forks? Speaking of forks what was for dinner tonight? Shiori hoped it would be something delicious! He could feel his stomach grumbling just thinking about whatever his mother would make for them.

After a few minutes of his mind racing he would peek with one of his eyes to see if his mentor was doing anything different. He didn't look like he was moving at all like a statue. "Pssstt," Shiori would say before asking, "Am I doing this right?" He had no idea if his technique or sitting was even correct. What was one even supposed to feel like? What was chakra supposed to feel like? Did it tingle? Was it like a wound with blood rushing out of it? So many questions so few answers.

"Mhm," he confirmed, taking a moment to close his eyes and concentrate. The silence lasted between the boys for a little while, but then Shiori interrupted to ask if he was doing it right.

Now... It was really hard for Junichi to tell. He couldn't see Shiori's chakra, so telling if the boy had managed to get a grasp on anything was nigh impossible. But given that Shiori had spoken up so quickly and didn't seem particularly concentrated or confident, Junichi was going to go out on a limb and guess the answer was "no."

"Uhh... I'm not sure," he admitted. Maybe meditation wasn't going to work very well for Shiori. "Here, let's try a better way to test it. Take another deep breath and, on the exhale, try to draw up your chakra from your stomach and into the palm of one of your hands," he suggested.

He practiced this himself, taking a deep breath and then imagining drawing from a well inside himself, pulling the chakra up into his hand.

"You'll know if you did it right if you can hold your hand in your palm and kind of feel it there. It makes the air a little... heavier. Like when there's clouds in the sky and you can kind of feel that it's about to thunderstorm," he offered. "Once you can do that, we'll practice a little more."

[attr=class,opunkibulkrule]"This is hard," Shiroi would say in confusion at this whole meditation thing. It's like this training was predisposed to be difficult for him to grasp or understand. Still, he wasn't one to just give up so he would try and muster on despite it being something he was certainly going to have to work hard on to understand. He even went on to try and hold his breath as if he needed to concentrate hard and push his chakra around his body to control it only to let out a small poot though not loud enough his trainer would hear.....hopefully.

Junichi would give off another set of instructions as he told Shiori to draw his chakra into his hands. Weird, but ok. He was willing to try anything to get his chakra in control especially if it meant no more accidents like his rope escape attempt which ended up with him dislocating his elbow in the process instead of just his wrist. The thunderstorm analogy was certainly something Shiroi could understand better than any technical jargon when it came to chakra control so he attempted to do as his instructor said.

His hands are out upon his knees as he sits with his eyes closed trying to focus his chakra into his hands. It was better than just sitting there as he could try and focus on the movement of his chakra even if that movement was faint for him. Not sure how to feel chakra moving in his body and of course with his stormcloud of a brain just trying to distract him with nonsense such as what was for dinner or if he had done any squats today yet. After a few minutes, he would open his eyes and look at his hands and though he couldn't see anything, not sure why he thought he would, he did feel something. Not a full-weight perse like how Junichi described it as it was more like a wisp of chakra. A slight fog if you would. "Is this enough?" Shiroi would ask a bit disappointed in himself wondering if he wouldn't be able to control his chakra.

Shiori concentrated very hard. Junichi tried to watch him to look for ways to give him pointers, but he wasn't really a teacher of any kind. He couldn't see chakra, so he couldn't tell if Shiori was doing it wrong. It was all up to waiting for Shiori to speak and some kind of vague interpretation. He hoped he could help the other boy more.

Eventually, Shiori asked if the chakra he'd managed to work into his hands was enough. Still, Junichi couldn't see it, so he had to lean in.

"Here, let me just..." Junichi gently grabbed Shiori's wrist with one hand and used his other to hover his fingers over Shiori's palm. There was a faint feeling there, almost like static electricity after stepping on a carpet - Kenichi loved to pull that kind of trick. Still, it wasn't very much.

"That's a good start," Junichi encouraged regardless. "It's... You'll want to be able to hold and mold more than that, but even being able to get that much exactly where you want it is a good sign. So... I know it's kind of boring, but what you should do is keep practicing that. The more you do it, the better you'll get at it - kind of like... like training a muscle, right?" Maybe Shiori would find an exercise comparison helpful. "You have to do multiple repetitions for it to work."

[attr=class,opunkibulkrule]Shiori was unsure of this whole exercise he was being taught, but he was trying and that's all that mattered right? He wasn't giving up and just accepting defeat which in his mind was always a good trait to have as a shinobi. Sure learning when to run away and regroup was good too, but in the face of adversity to be able to know you can continue going was something he felt was valuable and he wasn't about to let this little setback of training stop him from growing.

He would watch as his temporary sensei would grab his wrist and attempt to feel his chakra. This made Shiori wonder what chakra from others even felt like. Like he understood what his chakra felt to him, but what about others? Did every chakra energy have a different flow and texture? Similar to how each person had a different fingerprint did chakra do the same thing? Might be something to explore one day, but for now Shiori had to ask, "What does my chakra feel like?" It was a weird question, but surely Junichi would have some idea of describing it to him.

They would then continue speaking about how Shiori was doing which gave him a mix of emotions. On one hand, it sounded like he had a long way to go to control his chakra, but on the other hand, he was on the right track. They even described it in a way Shiori could understand. Repetition was something he fully understood from his training regime! "I can do repetitions!" Shiori would say in excitement about understanding how to go about this.

So that's what he did. Without so much instruction from Junichi, he would do it again. Taking slow breaths as he would concentrate on putting his chakra into his hand. If he was to describe his first attempt it was like someone spit in his hand, but this time it was more like a small sake cup of chakra was in his hand. Not a bucket yet, but an increasing amount which was a good thing still he needed validation for his efforts so he would turn to Junichi and ask, "Now?"

What did his chakra feel like? Uhm, Junichi hadn't even stopped to think about it, really. Chakra without purpose didn't really feel like much of anything. It was just... energy, right? Or not even really energy, but, uh... What was it called? They'd discussed it in some of the more complicated mathematics classes in the academy - potential energy? It was a promise that something could happen.

Junichi furrowed his brow.

"I guess it feels... uh... You know when you drag your feet on the carpet and get a bit of built-up static, and can move your hand over your arm and- and it moves your hairs? Kind of like that feeling, I guess, but a little... heavier. Denser."

That probably sounded stupid, but that was the only way he could think to explain it.

Then Shiori set about doing his repetitions. Junichi watched again, though he wasn't sure how to provide helpful pointers while the other boy was just focusing on working on his chakra. Still, it wasn't very long before he was ready for Junichi to assess his progress again.

Junichi held his hand out, placing it in Shiori's palm once more. There was definitely more chakra now, that slight feeling of pressure more present than before. He nodded.

"That's definitely an improvement. I can feel what you're managing to hold more of it," he confirmed. "If only we had some of that chakra-reactive paper they use for nature testing at the academy... I'm sure that would make it easier to see..."

Shiori while not fully satisfied with the answer figured it was because it was more complicated than Junichi was trying to explain and it might be best to ask someone who might be more informed on the subject matter. Still, it was a vague enough answer that made some sense in Shiori's mind overall. It did leave him with another question though to which he asked, "Does everyone's chakra feel the same?" He couldn't help and be inquisitive about the nature of chakra even if he was more of a physical person when it came to how he approached things. Learning about this information was just hard for him so asking those who seemed like they knew the stuff just seemed right in his mind.

After Junichi checked his chakra he was given praise for increasing his output which made Shiori very excited. He practically jumped up from his sitting position in joy! Though this turned out to be a good thing because Junichi then would make mention some sort of paper in which they could check this. "Oh I think I know where to get some!" Shiroi would exclaim before running away from the training grounds. A few minutes would pass before he would return to the training grounds holding three different types of paper. "I've seen my family use these three papers for training so maybe one of them is what we need!" Shiori would handing the three papers to Junichi. One of these was indeed the paper needed for this exercise while the other two were a blank sealing tag and a piece of scroll paper cut up to look like a tag.

Junichi definitely wasn't any kind of chakra expert, so when Shiori asked if everyone's chakra felt the same, it did give him pause. He really had to think about that.

"I think chakra in its default state probably feels pretty similar from everyone, but... The same way as everyone looks a little different, there are probably some small differences. People have different base natures and stuff, and sometimes even different chakra colors..." He couldn't imagine that the chakra of a Takeda would feel exactly like the chakra of a Yuie, for example. Takeda chakra was probably denser, sharper. Yuie chakra was probably light and airy. He'd never stopped to actually test that, though. That was just a feeling based on the clans' differences.

Oh, but then Shiori was off! He mentioned that he knew where to get chakra paper and then bolted. Junichi looked a little startled, but waited where he was for Shiori to return, idly doing a little chakra control practice himself in the hopes it would better his understanding and make him a more reasonable teacher.

Soon enough, Shiori returned with three pieces of paper.

Junichi looked at the papers, taking them in hand to try to figure out which was which. This was also something he wasn't much of an expert on...

"When you apply chakra to the paper, it transforms right away, so we don't want to use all of it at once. Here's an idea... Rip the papers up into a couple different pieces so you have enough for multiple attempts, then practice moving your chakra to your hand on the pieces until we figure out which kind is the right kind," he suggested.

After they knew which paper was the reactive paper, they could practice different stuff!

[attr=class,opunkibulkrule]The whole discussion about how people see chakra was certainly an interesting topic in Shiori's mind if not a bit too intellectual for his mind to comprehend. Which probably explained why he was so quick to run off to get the chakra paper he wanted to find. After all, sitting still a theorizing stuff was never his forte let alone this whole chakra control process. He was trying though to understand which was a major step for the block head of a shinobi who tended to just brute force his way through things. At least he was making some progress though.

After a short time when he returned with the selection of papers, a few of which weren't what they were looking for anyway, he would be ready to test out the exercise Junichi was teaching him. First, though he needed to cut up the papers so they didn't waste them all especially if they weren't sure which was the correct one so Shiori did just that. Folding each paper into four sections he would then rip them apart along those seems and then place each grouping of four into different piles. "Like this?" Shiori would say looking at Junichi making sure the separation of the three piles was what he wanted.

Once confirmed Shiori would grab one from each of the three piles and put them into his hand. The first two didn't budge or do anything when he tried putting his chakra into them. He felt like maybe he was doing something wrong, but he persisted with the third one, and after a few seconds of trying to put chakra into it the paper would crumble away. "Did I do something wrong?" Shiori would say in shock wondering if maybe the paper was too brittle and old that it practically dissolved in his hands.
