[Miyamoto Ikana]

Ikana was a practitioner of the sword. As were many in Kirigakure. It was a fabled martial discipline that had become more of an art in Kiri. She'd imagine there were no swordsmen finer than those in this land. The only ones to rival them perhaps being the hidden cloud or the land of iron. Ikana had much wisdom and knowledge to teach, as a generalist with many skills and talents. However, her talent with a sword? Amongst the current Genin of Kiri? She was rather sure that her skill and talent in it was second to none. This being because Kasumi Momochi had promoted to the rank of Chuunin. Though enough about that. Today? She was here for a different reason.

To train and educate her younger charge Gure An. Ikana found it was pretty good opportunity to find employment teaching children younger than herself as a side business. That, and her store had become a welcome and staple place of visit for the people of Kirigakure's ninja populace. Today, they were arranged to meet in a small training ground, fenced off with an arena of sand. Wooden posts lingered scattered about themselves, and Ikana had come bringing with her a wooden Bokken, firmly wrapped in leather. Today, she was to educate An in swordplay, and in turn, she sought to train herself also. Her instincts and reaction time. 

The morning was cool. The mist providing a wet dew as she took a deep breath. 

Standing tall, she straightened her hair as she leans atop her blade's handle, digging it's tip into the sand. "It's a pleasure to see you again. An." She slowly approaches, and with it, offers a second matching Bokken to her, if she didn't have one already. "Today's going to be a rather difficult day. So you might want to take it seriously. I'm here to see what you can do. Kenjutsu is one of my specialties." She exclaimed. After all, she was the adopted sister of one of the former seven swordsmen. What else, she was the unofficial apprentice of one herself. So. She'd hope to see some serious dedication.

An's grandparents had notified her a few days before that they had requested Ikana's assistance once more, this time with the sword. The little female had been practicing her sword skills since she was a child and actually enjoyed it, so the news came as an enjoyable surprise to her. Today. The youngling awoke excited as she began to get ready, clothing in something easy to move in, such as a traditional training suit, before eating some light breakfast and walking out to the scheduled tiny training site.

Her morning had been a little chaotic, so by the time she arrived, An realized she hadn't brought her training katana with her. Oops… She considered what she could do in this scenario and concluded that perhaps when Ikana arrived, she would excuse herself to go pick it up.

Ikana had arrived with two wooden training swords, as fate would have it. "Good morning, Ikana-sensei," she said to the other person. An accepted the given training instrument, saying, "Of course, I will. I'm also really skilled in kenjutsu!" She gave the other a friendly grin. "Where should we start?" before doing anything more, some stretching and repetition of basic motions would probably be a fine place to start, but the decision was up to the light-haired girl's teacher today. It was entirely likely that Ikana's manner, and hence the way to go about it, was radically different from An's.

[Miyamoto Ikana]

An seemed good natured and excited as always. Asking where they'd begin. "We'll begin with a few warmups. To ensure you're warmed up. Afterwards? I imagine we can have a little spar between the two of us to see where you stand. I'll throw critique in where I can." With that said? Ikana took her own blade. Feeling its length as she drew it. Swinging down vertically in fine chops. Her stance was triangular footed, and as she swung, she put her shoulders and body motion into it to give it firm and decisive power. Ikana was well used to the blade in her own right. She'd begin to do this in a repeated and rhythmic motion.

Before she'd slash vertically. Her strikes were firm and practiced. Her wooden sword swished through the air. "Ichi. Nii. San! Yon. Gou. Roku! Nana. Hachi. Kyu! Juu!" She seemed to move in drafts of ten, as she began stretching her legs and arms. She cracked her fingers and flexed her back. Up until she felt she was nice and warmed up. Ikana found herself twisting the blade in her grasp, before waving it outwards from her body, before aligning it with the center of her body. Her hands rested with her fingers firmly wrapped and curled along the blade, with a focus on her thumbs and pinkies as to allow her to more swiftly react and move her blade. 

Standing some ten feet away, she looked outward towards An, before proceeding to speak. 

"Believe it or not. Despite my rank and age, I'm skilled enough to cut through solid stone and iron." Looking to perhaps surprise An, or have her imagine such a feat with the sword, it only further consolidated that hopefully, An would request to hire Ikana more, and more often in the future.

"Sounds good!" she said, taking the other sword and feeling its weight and length; it was a regular training katana, similar to the one she had left at home. Following in the footsteps of the others, An began to warm up.

She warmed up her body before executing any kata by stretching and doing some brief cardio-like hops and runs to get her blood flowing and her body relaxed. An's kata was as simple as one might imagine: a twelve-move repeat of drawing the katana, slicing with it, and sheathing it back in an invisible sheath that An imagined would be at her left side.

"Solid stone and iron!" An was astonished and a little terrified, but her voice was friendly and playful, "Please don't cut me Ikana-sensei!" Her face beamed with a smile. "I think I am pretty much done with the warming up," An announced as she adopted her posture, ready for any move Ikana had planned.

If Ikana decided to attack, the young girl would do her best to defend herself, possibly by blocking the incoming attacks, or just fully avoiding them if she could of course. As she waited patiently An could feel her adrenaline going up in the excitement of the unknown.

[Miyamoto Ikana]

The next moments proved to be interesting. For An seemed amused by the prospect of her cutting prowess. Though, Ikana couldn't help but smile in the next moment. At being asked not to cut her. "I won't." She says with a bright grin. An's cuteness was infectious. However, the next few moments had allowed for Ikana to limber, before An declared she herself was ready. Ikana's eyes narrowed as she entered her stance. Her knees bent, her feet in a triangular stance, her blade aligned and centered to her body as she straightened her posture. "Hajime."

Ikana's sword style wasn't as elegant or refined as others might be. It was however more aggressive. As she closed inwards, she'd begin immediately by stepping in with a swift burst of movement. Raising her sword overhead to swing down upon An's head. Assuming it was blocked, she might feel the recoil as the blow bounces off. As did Ikana. Though instead of flinging her arms back, she immediately uses the recoil to crack down, using the crack to give even more leverage and weight in the second strike. Looking to hit even harder than the second time in the exact same spot, leaning inwards and trying to utilize her body strength to slide inward as she begins to move. To step in towards the left flank.

Ikana was a fairly observant girl, and so, she tried to figure out the subtle things. Anything she could exploit. That included An's dominant hand. Ikana was left handed dominant. She felt more comfortable pressing in from that direction. So, assuming she was able to break the lock with her movement, she follows by immediately following with a rising diagonal slash, aimed for the side of An's thigh. Lurching upwards as she attempts to press the advantage. "Ki-ai!"

An's eyes widened as Ikana launched her attack, moving with impressive speed and power. She barely had time to react, but her instincts kicked in, and she raised her wooden sword to block the overhead strike aimed at her head. The impact sent vibrations through her arms, but she held her ground, absorbing the force of the blow.

As Ikana recoiled from her attack, An saw an opportunity. With her quick reflexes, she pivoted on her left foot, using the momentum from the blocked strike to spin slightly to the side. As Ikana brought her sword down for a second strike, An swiftly stepped to the side, avoiding the blow altogether. She could feel the rush of adrenaline coursing through her veins as she dodged the attack.

As Ikana followed up with a rising diagonal slash towards her thigh, An anticipated the movement. She quickly shifted her weight to her right foot and brought her wooden sword down diagonally to intercept Ikana's strike. The clash of the wooden swords echoed in the training ground as An held her ground, pushing against the force of Ikana's attack, of course, of course, with quite the consequences.

Her arms. The difference in their body structure and Ikana’s striking power was what made the blocking of the other girls' attacks a double-edged sword. Feeling the strain in her arms, An knew she couldn't rely solely on blocking. She had to counterattack. With a burst of energy, she twisted her body, using her momentum to swing her sword in a wide arc toward Ikana's side. It was a calculated move, aimed at exploiting the opening created by their clash and, hopefully, catching Ikana off guard.

[Miyamoto Ikana]

An's reflexes were good. Quite so for an academy student. The blocks were well met, and as their bokken met, the cracking of wood was a good feeling. Especially for Ikana who hadn't had much opportunity to train with others in this sort of thing. At least, definitely as much as she would like. Ikana was a very short, comparatively to most others. So. When she fought, she usually had the advantage of making low strikes difficult to block. On the other token? She couldn't take blows very well. Agile and precise strikes were her preferred method, and it was evidently something An could see and feel.

As An broke her guard, looking to twist and swing her blade in a pivot motion to swing the blade in a wide arc for Ikana's side? It was clear that such was not a blow she was going to block easily. So instead? Ikana jumped. It might have been incredible for An to see. For Ikana to suddenly hop like a monkey, over the swing, as she curled her legs inward slightly towards her chest. Before then pointing down towards An. Her free hand tightening as she channels and focuses on her muscle. "Konoha!" Twisting her body into a pivot motion, the white haired pupil might have just enough time to recover and raise her blade to defend herself.

"Senpuu!" Kicking out in a tornado kick, she releases a twisting burst of force from her leg, looking to slam her sandaled foot along the blade, to press inward towards An's chest, to send her skidding and knocking back. If not knocked onto the ground if she was unprepared. In the event An withstood the first blow? Ikana twists again, with An as a springboard to deliver a second fierce kick. If the brunette was indeed successful, she'd land upon the ground, and then swing her blade outward from her body. Before then immediately standing upright. Entering again her sparring stance. Her eyes focused as she tenses her palm. Feeling the tautness of the bandages wrapped around her arms.

Ikana's precision and strength in her attacks overwhelmed An's defense, causing a sharp pain to shoot through her body as her foot connected with An's chest. The impact knocked An off balance, and she fell to the ground, momentarily dazed and disoriented.

Struggling to regain her breath, An anticipated Ikana's second kick. She desperately tried to raise her wooden sword for defense, but it proved futile as the powerful blow landed, sending her sprawling onto the ground.

Taking a moment to gather herself, An adjusted her grip on the wooden sword and assessed the situation. Despite feeling the strain in her arms and the chest pain from their previous exchanges, An refused to let it hinder her. Drawing upon her resilience, she pushed through the discomfort, determined to mount a counterattack.

With a surge of energy, An closed the distance between herself and Ikana, moving with fluidity and purpose. Seizing the opportunity, An retaliated with a well-timed swing of her wooden sword.

Her strike was rapid and precise, exploiting any possible opening that Ikana might have left. An relied on her agility and technique to compensate for the disparity in strength. She understood the importance of maintaining her guard while capitalizing on chances to strike.

Once again An targeted Ikana's side. Although her strike lacked the same speed as Ikana's previous attacks, it carried the weight of her unwavering determination.

Regardless of whether her strike landed or not, An remained unwavering in her resolve and refused to relent.

[Miyamoto Ikana]

Relentless assaults were in fact not Ikana's specialty. With the next passing moments, An was sent sprawling back from her powerful kicks. The bright disposition of the white headed angel before her was rather uplifting in some ways. She wondered to some extent how often she'd been roughly handled like this. How much experience she might have had. The answer to that question would come to answer itself when An closed the distance after collecting herself. Rushing towards her with a swing. A swift and precise strike that sought to prevent Ikana from releasing her own strikes in turn.

However, instead of using a guard and enduring An's blows? She would proceed to dodge. Swiftly sidestepping or twisting her body out of the range of the slice, skirting and dancing past the various blows that came headed for her. Her eyes keeping look on her smallest movements. She didn't seem to bother to retreat, more so only just stay within her sword range. A bit of training for Ikana in her own right, dodging and skirting around the assault of her student. The blows were relentless, and as An swung confidently, it allows for her to press in closer and closer.

"...Be careful not to grimace or tense too much. It lets me know when you're going to strike." She announced, recalling her own failures of the past. Ikana seemed to have little to no difficulty keeping up at this pace. She danced around her, and only seemed to use her blade to slide or glance when looking to pull and gain more distance. Studying and gathering information on how An fought. It was a lot more graceful in some ways than Ikana's own. In a way, it made the brunette a little bit jealous even. As those amber eyes looked into An's own blue? Ikana seemed fully relaxed and in control. The better question was. Was An prepared for what was coming next?

As An pressed on with her relentless assault, she couldn't help but feel a mix of frustration and admiration for Ikana's evasion skills. The way Ikana effortlessly dodged and weaved around her strikes was both impressive and infuriating. An knew she had to find a way to break through Ikana's defenses and land a solid hit.

Gathering her focus, An adjusted her strategy. She decided to vary her attack patterns, mixing in feints and unpredictable movements to keep Ikana guessing. She aimed to create openings by forcing Ikana to react, hoping to catch her off guard.

An's determination burned within her, refusing to let frustration overshadow her goal. She acknowledged the importance of staying calm and composed, avoiding any unnecessary tensing or grimacing that would give away her intentions. "I understand,” she took Ikana's advice to heart, realizing that her opponent could read her movements through subtle cues.

An's eyes never left Ikana's form, studying her movements, looking for any sign of weakness or vulnerability. She knew that Ikana was far more experienced, but An refused to let that intimidate her. An launched herself forward, her wooden sword cutting through the air with a swift and calculated motion. She began by aiming for Ikana's midsection, feigning a direct strike to test her opponent's reflexes.

As the blade neared Ikana's side, An swiftly redirected her attack, changing the angle at the last moment. Her wooden sword arced upward, aiming for a diagonal strike toward Ikana's shoulder. She hoped to catch her off guard, capitalizing on any slight opening in her defenses.

In a seamless transition, An followed up with a quick spin, bringing her sword back around in a reverse motion. This time, she aimed low, targeting Ikana's legs in an attempt to disrupt her balance. An's strikes came in rapid succession.

Ikana had gotten quite good at hiding her facial expression, seeming expressionless. The face gave away so many seeming motions and intentions, and in those moments? She found herself looking carefully at the motions of her opponent's body. An seemed very well trained for an academy student in the art of Kenjutsu. She'd even say more than Ikana was when she took up her first Bokken. As the strikes came for her midsection, the young Kirigakure genin carefully assessed the assaults as they came, trying to get a better read of An's movements. Up until the moment a strike stopped. The wooden blade shifting, as it tilted upwards and rose in a diagonal strike.

The slight shift of momentum and footing needed as the blow lifted. Ikana swayed and shifted her body backwards, her blade looking to intercept the slant, shifting her weight as to turn the slice into a glance. The movements were becoming harsher now. Interesting. As An sought to turn her body into a pivot twist, singing the blace in reverse, Ikana firmly slammed the tip of the wooden Bokken down along the earth, rooting it like a stake or pillar, as An's blow would strike against its form. The weight of her whole body pressing against it for support in comparison to An's arms. CLACK! The sound of resounding wood, before Ikana takes advantage of the moment of recoil.

To kick a foot full of semi wet sand into An's face. Looking to make her fall back, Ikana would soon step forward. Looking to press her blade closer to An's chest. Her eyes looked colder, more serious as she pressed inwards. Perhaps looking to get An to concede.

As the clash of wooden Bokken reverberated through her arms, An felt the impact and stumbled back, momentarily blinded by a burst of sand. Regaining her vision, she realized Ikana had seized the opportunity, pressing her blade against An's chest, claiming a silent victory.

Taking a deep breath, An mingled her disappointment with a profound respect for her opponent's skill. She had given her best, but today Ikana had proven to be the superior swordsman. Lowering her wooden sword, An accepted defeat gracefully.

Their gazes met, acknowledging the defeat without bitterness. An understood that losing was an essential part of the learning process, a chance to identify weaknesses and grow stronger. She genuinely admired Ikana's talent and knew that this loss would only fuel her determination to improve.

"I am sincerely grateful for the valuable lesson you have taught me today," An continued, her voice brimming with sincerity. "I will take this defeat to heart and continue to refine my skills. Perhaps our paths will cross again on the training grounds, and who knows, the outcome might be different."

With those words, An bowed respectfully to Ikana, accepting defeat with humility. "I will leave the Bokken here," she added, expressing her gratitude. After exchanging pleasantries and farewell words, An turned and walked away, waving a farewell. Her mind buzzed with thoughts of training and strategizing for her next encounter, eager to push herself further and reach new heights.

Overall, when An took the liberty to leave, Ikana took the liberty to look over her Bokken, and reflected on her own life. Her experiences, as well as the skills she trained and honed to this point? It made her question and reflect on her future to some extent. As well as her failures. Taking the liberty to lower her blade, once An was gone, she let her smile drop as she found herself taking a deep breath. It felt good to let the mask drop from time to time.

As she took the liberty to feel her own Bokken in hand and the one left behind, she knew that she had her own training to pursue, and she felt as if her life was in a way changing, flipping upside down again. Everything seemed like it was going different for her again; but if it was for the better or worse? She didn't really know. She couldn't really digest or fathom everything her future held. Still though, she did suppose she was leaving her mark on the lives of others. Changing their lives in good ways more than not.

She couldn't complain about that.

Ikana would begin to go through the motions of her kata, swinging her blade with the extension of her body, and as she went through those fluid strikes, her hand gripped tightly as she felt the need to intensify her workload from here on out. So that she might be able to advance for her personal development. Because at the end of the day, while she had no idea what her goals and greater ambitions were, she knew at the very least that she wouldn't be able to accomplish anything without power. Personal strength. Those things were King. So, with that said, she found herself investing into her personal development.

Frankly, she didn't know what she was living for, or how much of a difference she was making in the lives of others. Or perhaps in her mind, she didn't think she was making a great change whatsoever. She lived day by day, and even if she didn't feel any particular joy at this particular point in time, things were getting better. She was advancing. Progress was slow, but it was sure. Her prospects and opportunities were expanding, and she guessed she was making acquaintances in different places. Ikana would figure out everything in time. Yes. She'd find out in time.
