[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Kiseki was excited. So much so that she was hurrying along the road, in an effort to get to the meetup spot ahead of schedule. She was going to finally get some more medical practice in and she would get to do it with Nara Shikajin. Practicing the transformation jutsu with the chunin and his summon had been a highlight of her training.

Back then she hadn’t been aware that Shikajin knew anything about medicine or anatomy. If she had, she probably would have demanded asked him to train her right then and there. She was determined to get her anatomy knowledge down pat.

She didn’t have any clue on what they would be going over today, whether it would be something entirely new or just some review. She felt she had a pretty good grasp on the basics, thanks to her lessons with Tomomi-sensei and the review she did with Miroru and Shinde, but she knew there was always more to learn.

Kiseki near-skidded into her destination, skipping lightly so she didn’t trip on her own feet and fall. "Nara-sensei?" she asked the air as she entered the area. She wasn’t sure if she had managed to get there too early or if she had managed to be perfectly on time. "I’m here for my lesson!"

One may have seen this as a bit odd or even unsuitable for a person so young, but the circumstances required such actions be taken. Studying medicine was one of the hardest things a person could do, even worse when you were trying to mix that with the profession of shinobi and while the training technically never stopped there were ways to help get a jump on things. Some may have not have preferred this method for a young student, hell they may not have thought of it for someone around their own age but this would be a good test to see if the girl was really dedicated to her craft.

The path Kiseki would follow would take her around the back of the village hospital where she'd find a pair of doors that led underneath the building to a well lit but very quiet hallway, and at the end of said hallway would be a large room with the Nara medic standing over a table, and on that table a cadaver. Who they were and how they died was not important but their remains had been donated to science and so it would be used as such. "Ah, welcome Kiseki. There are some medical covers and gloves on the table over there, put those on and then we'll begin." The man replied calmly.

The girl had requested some help in learning more about anatomy and honestly there was no better example than one that could be opened and used for teaching. Macabre, yes, but Shikajin had rarely been one to sugar coat things. He took the medical arts very seriously and healers were the backbone of every society so he was going to make sure that those he taught left knowing the most possible. When Kiseki had joined him at the table he would give the girl a few moments to realize just what she was looking at. "We're going to be opening up this cadaver to help you learn more about anatomy. If it's too much for you let me know now before we begin." Best not to waste a perfectly good body if Kiseki was too squeamish.

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]The room was cold, which was the first thing that she noticed as she entered. Not unbearably so, but definitely a several degree drop from what it was outside. It was also very quiet in the room. Like noise was afraid of being too loud.

The smell was weird too. Sterile, with a hint of something sour underneath. She didn’t wrinkle her nose, but she definitely didn’t like the smell. The young girl listened to Shikajin and moved over to the side of the room to slip one of the clothing covers on and a pair of the smallest gloves they had on.

Most of the metal tables were empty, but the table that got her direct attention, however, had a body placed upon it. She’d never seen a dead body before, it definitely piqued her interest.

"Cool," she muttered under her breath as she approached the cadaver. Part of her wondered if stabbing into it would feel like when she stabbed Shinde’s clone, but figured that would be an unprofessional request for her to ask to fulfill.

Instead, she looked up at Shikajin and nodded. "I’m fine. Ready to learn. Thank you, Nara-sensei."

She was fine. Perfectly calm at the moment, she didn’t know exactly how she would react once Shikajin started cutting, but she definitely was interested in seeing the inside of a real human body. Tomomi-sensei had shown her a puppet shaped like a human, but that had only been the outside. This was going to be a deep dive and she was eager to get started.

"Very well." Shikajin replied as the young student joined him at his side. There had been others in the past who wanted to learn more about the human body, whether to harm or heal it was of no consequence, but had their curiosity halted at a similar sight. The Nara wasn't aloof to how intense a visual this could be, especially for one so young, but as a shinobi it was something she'd see time and time again throughout her life whether she wanted to or not, and to Kiseki's credit the girl looked as cool as a cucumber.

"So I take it you know the body is connected through and through, like a bunch of roads in the village that will take you anywhere from the Hokage monument to the training fields, but simply knowing that the two places are connected isn't good enough, you need to understand how they are connected to be effective at manipulating the body." The chunin spoke before grabbing a scalpel off of the table and placing it against the upper abdomen of the cadaver before slicing up and across the top layers of skin. He'd use a hand to pull back said skin thus exposing the top layers of muscle.

"For example, you're probably familiar with the pectoral muscle on the front here and since it's the largest most people think it does all the work, however, this is just the pectoralis major and without help from the pectoralis minor which sits on the other side behind the ribs you'd have a tough time moving your upper body including your deltoids here and your trapezoids a little further up, and as you can see from where the deltoids sit if you can't move those then trying to move your arms is going to be a tough task as well."

These were surface level muscles and only a couple of the six hundred or so that humans had that were split into three groups and it was honestly a discussion that could have lasted for days but inundating the poor girl with too much variably important info wasn't the plan. "Any questions before we continue?"

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Kiseki watched with rapt attention as Shikajin sliced methodically into the cadaver. It was an amazing process to watch as it was nothing like the puppet she had practiced on with Tomomi-sensei. While that had been realistic looking, it had only the bones of the human body within it.

She didn’t know anything about the muscles or other connective tissue, so she was beyond interested. She got as close to her side of the table as possible as the layer of skin was peeled back revealing the muscles of the cadaver’s shoulder. Once again, the girl hadn’t brought anything to write information on, but she was so enraptured she was absorbing it like a sponge.

As she listened to Shikajin list all the muscles in the shoulder, her mind whirred as she came up with possible ways to utilize the new parts of the body she was learning. She surmised that slicing into the pectoralis major would be damaging, but if she managed to get the pectoralis minor too, it would basically make the opponents’ arms useless. Aiming to sever the trapezoids or deltoids would also make moving the arm difficult. She filed that away for future use.

"Is it easy to break muscles, or are they really tough?" she asked once the floor was opened to questions. Depending on the answer, it would change her strategy going forward. But muscles had to be easier to slice into and break than bones, right?

"It depends on the muscle, but they're all designed to be flexible to a degree to prevent injury. With that said, enough force or a sharp enough object can tear through muscle." Shikajin replied as he prodded a grouping of muscles with his scalpel to show that they were tough to the touch; granted that was more so due to rigor mortis having set in but even a live subject would have shown similar results. "Since this body has been deceased for some time and all the moisture has dried up these muscles are more brittle than you would find in someone still living, but you should still be able to get an idea of how tightly packed together they are and what it would take to cut them."

He would give the girl a few moments to poke and prod as she saw fit. Seeing was believing but being more hands on in a situation like this would help Kiseki get a true feeling for the amount of force required to cut through densely packed muscle. Once the girl had gotten her fill the Nara would move on to the next section of the cadaver. "Now while cutting muscles is a decent way to hamper your opponent knowing where and how to strike vital organs is paramount to truly utilizing knowledge of the body. Of course you have your heart here and lungs a bit further down but that is where you will also find someone to be the most protected." Shikajin would maneuver his scalpel further down to the abdomen. "There are a plethora of vital organs in this area here, and hitting any number of them can result in either severe acute damage or long term issues. The abdominal muscles do cover this area so it is tough to get to them but beyond that you have free range to strike at kidneys, the spleen, the intestines, so on and so forth, and it does not take a lot of blunt force trauma to cause internal bleeding and the like."

The medic would point his scalpel in the general area of each organ to give Kiseki a rudimentary map of where they were. Unfortunately the tools necessary to open a body to that extent were not available today so this would have to do. "There is also the option of hitting these organs from the side, but that's a bit tricky seeing as how you have to deal with the ribcage, so you need to either strike from underneath or be able to determine the spacing between them so you don't hit a bone. Granted, it would still hurt but not quite as much as you're looking for."

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Kiseki listened and watched with rapt attention as Shikajin explained the elasticity of muscles and how they were tough to break, but not impossible. Shikajin allowed Kiseki to take hold of the scalpel and poke at the exposed muscles to get a feel for them. She even used her free hand to poke at the muscle, and feel the tight surface beneath her fingers. It was cold and a little slimy and had little give to it. If she was going for muscles, she needed a lot of force and sharp objects.

But muscles weren’t vital organs. Shikajin explained that destroying a muscle would debilitate an opponent. That was good to know if she ever needed to leave her opponent alive. But she was more interested in learning about the areas that would quickly put an opponent down.

"Interesting," Kiseki said as she moved closer to the cadaver, looking over the organs that were visible and committing them to memory. Shikajin went over several vital organs, opening up the body some more so she could see them, or see the general areas if they were being further inside the body.

The abdominal muscles seemed thick, she thought as she looked at them. They were protecting several of the main vital organs that could cause the most damage. She would need a weapon in the future that could pierce past them so she could get to the organs with ease. Like a big spike or needle or something.

She took her gloved hands again and poked at the side as Shikajin explained stabbing from the side. Kiseki felt the ribcage, even though she couldn’t see through the muscles along the side and front of the abdomen. It was interesting to feel the gaps in between the bones. The placement of the gaps was something she planned to remember down the line if she ever needed to stab someone in the sides.

"This is really interesting, Nara-sensei," she said, pulling her hands back and taking a step back so she could look up at the medic. Do you have any advice on where the best spots to strike are? Kiseki had her own theories, but she was interested in hearing what a professional would say.

Kiseki seemed to be absorbing the information like a sponge which was both impressive for one her age and a little creepy that one so young was so very, very interested in the ways of injuring, maiming and overall killing someone. Granted, they were all soldiers --or would be, at some point-- and the best way to ensure that you could continue to be one was to be able to put someone down before they could do the same to you. Shikajin had never been this interested in the body before a certain event and it had pushed him to want to save lives instead of take them, but if this session helped ensure that the young girl would have a greater chance of returning home after every mission then he was more than happy to help.

Hearing her next question would elicit a soft, momentary hum from the medic. He had gone over some muscle groupings and laid out the location of organs to try and strike at which were the ideal parts of the body to hit if you were looking to do some real damage, however, fights were never stationary and focusing too hard on those areas was a sure fire way to get tunnel vision and miss out on other opportunities. "A good question. Outside of the places I mentioned earlier aiming for tendons and joints is a great way to hinder your opponent. The wrists, elbows, and achilles tendon are all vital to moving one part of the body or another so a good strike would at the very least hamper their ability to move." Shikajin replied as he pointed to the various points of the body. Kiseki would have no doubt in her young life been familiar with these parts of the body but probably only in working order. With his scalpel the Nara would slice into the achilles tendon severing the connection between foot and leg. "As you can see if there is nothing connecting the bones in your foot to your leg then you can't move your foot, and the most this person would now be able to do is put a little pressure on it. No running, no jumping and even the toughest shinobi wouldn't be able to walk on it. Granted, because these tendons are so vital they are designed to bend and twist to a degree so taking them out is not a simple matter, but if you do manage to hit one you're in pretty good shape."

He would give the girl some time to inspect the now wobbly foot compared to the intact one if she so chose to see the stark difference.

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Kiseki's intrigue in the complexities of the human anatomy deepened with each slice and explanation from Shikajin. The dissection of the Achilles tendon, laying bare the vulnerabilities of the human form, was a profound moment for her. Witnessing firsthand the difference between a functional and severed tendon illuminated the critical nature of anatomical knowledge in combat. This experience was shaping up to be far more enriching than any textbook could offer, embedding lessons in her memory that would undoubtedly influence her approach to both healing and combat.

Her thoughts raced, envisioning the application of this newfound knowledge in the field. Understanding the pivotal role of precision in disabling an opponent transformed her perspective on shinobi engagements. It wasn't just about brute force; it was about strategic strikes that could decisively tilt the scales in her favor.

Kiseki's appreciation for Shikajin's expertise grew with each passing moment. The balance between inflicting and healing damage was becoming clearer, a duality that she was eager to master. This session underscored the importance of such knowledge, firmly planting the seeds of a more nuanced approach to her future as a medic-nin and a warrior.

As the lesson progressed, her mind brimmed with questions, eager to explore further depths of medical ninjutsu and its application in battle. The clinical, almost austere environment of the room had transformed into a sanctuary of learning, each revelation a building block in her evolution as a shinobi.

Yet, even as Kiseki absorbed the wealth of information Shikajin provided, she knew there was much more to learn. She was beginning to understand the gravity of her chosen profession, where knowledge of the body could mean the difference between life and death.

"Are there specific techniques you recommend for targeting these vulnerabilities?" Kiseki asked, her gaze still fixed on the cadaver, a reflection of her unwavering resolve to learn. "And how do we ensure that we're prepared to apply this knowledge under the pressure of actual combat?"

Her question hung in the air, a bridge to further exploration and discussion. Kiseki stood ready, her mind open and eager for the insights that Shikajin would share next, knowing that each piece of advice would be another step in her journey to mastery.

Kiseki's fascination with the human body and how to best break it down was interesting, though that could have been brought about more so by the two's shared profession than anything else. As shinobi medics they were tasked with saving lives but also knowing how to do what was necessary to keep themselves alive which at times required taking lives. The irony had not been lost on the Nara but it was a moral quandary he had resolved within himself many moons ago. Some still struggled with that balancing act and usually became village-only medics but there would always be a need for those who could fight as well as they healed out in the field.

Listening to the girl ask what techniques were best suited for dealing the best type of damage to the body left the man silent for a moment as he contemplated. "Speaking solely as a medic, there are techniques that have been designed purely for harm, such as bursting veins and blood vessels and rewiring someone's nervous system so they can't move their limbs properly. With that said I'd advise against focusing on those sorts of things until you get the basics down, and to answer your question I'd go with the chakra scalpel: it leaves no marks on the outside of the body and only affects a person internally. So long as you are able to make physical contact something is going to be made worse for wear."

It perhaps wasn't the laundry list of jutsu Kiseki may have been looking for but medics were tasked with healing first and most of what had been created for the field was done so in the interest of ensuring people lived. "Managing concentration comes with time and practice. You will no doubt be put under strenuous situations during the remainder of your time in the academy and when you start taking on missions as a genin, and the best way to keep your calm is to have the basics memorized. You should be able to call upon that knowledge as easily as you breathe. Injuries in the field are rarely a single thing so you must be able to handle any number of issues at once, or if need be delegate tasks clearly and concisely to others, but that is only possible if your knowledge is sound."

A moment of realization.

"Not to say you must be a stalwart of emotion. Stress is natural and no matter how much experience you have there will be situations when you're just as nervous or unsure as your allies, but having a strong foundation of knowledge will allow you to focus on centering yourself without losing sight of the task at hand."

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]The guidance Shikajin offered Kiseki wasn't merely technical; it was profoundly personal, emphasizing the essence of being a shinobi medic. It illuminated the delicate dance between healing and harming, underscoring the profound responsibility carried by those who wield such knowledge. For Kiseki, these insights bridged the gap between theory and practice, infusing her burgeoning skills with a depth of understanding.

As Kiseki absorbed Shikajin's words, she recognized the journey ahead was laden with challenges, each demanding a melding of precision, knowledge, and emotional resilience. The notion of mastering the chakra scalpel, a tool that symbolized the dual nature of her role, was daunting. While it sounded like something she would be enthusiastically interested in, she wasn’t sure if she would actually be able to learn it.

The lesson fortified Kiseki's resolve, a testament to her commitment to mastering the complexities of human anatomy. She understood that her path was about learning to strike with surgical precision and wielding her knowledge with compassion and discernment. The balance between doing harm and healing was a delicate one.

She thanked Shikajin for the invaluable lesson, Kiseki's expression was a complex tapestry of determination, uncertainty, and the eagerness to learn. She knew the road ahead would be challenging, but she was now armed with a deeper understanding of her role.

Despite her young age, Kiseki has sharpened her control of chakra to an art. She is able to shape the flow and manipulate the threads in complex ways and with extreme potency that allows her to perform difficult jutsu without wasting a single drop.

She knows that sometimes, less is more when it comes to jutsu. The talent with which she manipulates her energy allows her to stay on even grounds with those who have larger chakra pools, making it so she can continue to fight longer.

It was a quiet contemplation which wasn't surprising given the weight of the information had spoken to Kiseki, and to be honest he would have been more skeptical of the girl's understanding of his words had she been more bubbly. Shinobi medics were tasked with a strange balancing act to save lives even if it was by way of taking others. Toeing that line was not easy and there would be times when one foot fell squarely on either side but with the right support the correct path could be found once again, but community was not something Shikajin could teach and that would be something the young Uchiha would need to cultivate through other means.

Feeling that he had imparted enough knowledge for the day the Nara would bring their lesson to an end. He hoped that Kiseki had picked up not only a hefty amount of useful information about the body but also and understanding of the responsibilities of a medic and though there were a plethora of powerful techniques and abilities at their disposal their primary goal was to save lives. With the young student taking her leave the chunin would begin to work on stitching the cadaver back up for proper disposal; had they cut into it a little less then maybe it could be saved for another demonstration in the future but in this state... it was best to let this individual finally rest.
