"If sleep was a substance rather than a bodily function, it'd be the most potent performance enhancer there is." A statement Kita had heard somewhere once, cruelly coming to mind now. Lots of yawning, baggy eyes and stretching. A textbook case of sleep deprivation. More time spent sleeping is giving more time to the plebs who think themselves as peers to Kita.


Those very same plebs would probably use this chance to sleep in, not Kita. Having a well rested mind and body might be necessary if he was setting out to learn a legendary jutsu few could master, but broadening his horizons and getting his hands on some basics? "Lightwork" he'd mutter to himself.

A wooden training sword hung from his hip casually, there were bigger fish to fry for any vigilant citizens or shinobi in this neck of Kirigakure, so he continued to a spot he had a fondness for training at. It was quiet enough, but also somewhere with some surprisingly fitting equipment

Then, he arrived. A desolate run down playground behind a block of public housing. Moss and all sorts of living things had crept their way in, wrapping around the various rundown apparatus. 

Using weapons was something Kita had experience with, but he was more aligned with the ninja tool path, as in scraps he had engaged in while younger mostly involved using debris that surrounded him. The even, balanced weight of the second hand wooden training sword reminded him of a more refined PVC pipe. 

Generating power was no issue for Kita, his big figure made it easy to feel the whip of his body when he steps into a motion, one foot forward, let it lead the shoulder then THWACK. A loud bang could be heard in the surrounding area.

This was the sort of thing that used to give Kita a shot of dopamine but all it led to now was a sigh. He'd seen more refined, more practical, even stronger strikes with more benign weapons. He could recognise he was many steps away from reaching the image in his head, but he'd spend the day better than anyone else could and chase down that image. 

Rather than mindlessly whack away again, he'd stand there, head in his hands, a clear air of focus around him, in his large murky ensemble of loose clothing. What does the next level look like?

Every day was a new opportunity to learn in Kyoko's book and while there were times when she couldn't train as much as she wanted, mostly due to her duties as a bodyguard, she still would do the most with her time even if it left her ragged with exhaustion. Long nights training into the wee hours only to get a couple of hours of sleep before repeating the same cycle again and again. It was exhausting, to say the least, but she lived for it. She had worked so hard to get as far as she had at such a young age that she wasn't about to stop now. Kyoko could relax when she was older for now it was time to grow.[break][break]

Though despite all this she knew she needed some days of rest between her training and duties and today was going to be one normal, fate seemed to have different ideas for her. Waking up rather early, hair a mess because she barely got any sleep, she would find herself heading towards the academy in instinct. Like being on autopilot her footsteps took her back towards the academy as if she was still a student studying there, but once she made it to the academy she had woken up and realized where she was. Frowning to herself she turned around and began heading somewhere else. [break][break]

Letting the winds of fate push her feet along the mist of the village she would find herself near some public housing in the rather poor district of the village. The homes sort of made them think of home back at the farm, despite looking nothing like her home, so she found herself lingering a bit before something caught her attention. A loud thwack. A sound she was quite familiar with from her academy days. Someone was training with something that wasn't a conventional sword, but who would be up so early? So she would go and investigate.[break][break]

Standing in a worn-out playground was a male, much taller than her, who looked around her age practically covering his face with his hands. Was he frustrated? Well, that couldn't be good. She would approach the male and ask, "You ok?" She wasn't the type to be normally concerned for the well-being of others, but maybe her exhausted state made her a bit delusional causing her to act a bit softer and nicer towards people than she normally was.

Lost in thought, tired and not fully awake yet, and suddenly...

"You ok?"

Taken off guard, Kita would startle and let off an expletive or two, sighing afterwards. He'd his fingers through his hair while wincing, before exhaling and opening his eyes again. His brow would furrow upon seeing a little dainty girl, even moreso when his mind would take a moment to think about the situation.

Short stack, pretty unassuming looking but... no fear to her, no hesitance... The air the young lady gave off to someone like Kita, who while not an experienced shinobi knows what it means when someone like her can hold her head up high somewhere like this. Either she's the real deal or she's so spoilt she don't know what an area like this is.

"Just puttin' my nose to the grindstone. Not too used to something like this, usually a cinder block or broken bottle is more my speed..."

No threatening tone, no venom. But surely, a guy looking like Kita out here talking like that would scare off a greenhorn.

If I'm the one wet behind the ears here, maybe I can roll with it, get something out of this.

"Hard to wrap my head around what actually makes someone using one of these" - he'd break from talking for a moment, beckoning to the training sword, before leaning on it like a cane, resuming - "Against someone spitting fireballs, someone dropping horrifying illusions, all that action, you know what I mean? Thinking maybe I'm just wasting my time with it..."

Either she brags about what she can do and tries to show me that instead, or she gets pissed and tries to make me look a fool, either way, I'm up. Internally, Kita would have a devilish grin, externally, a defeated expression would wash over him, trying to look the part of a young man lost and ill-informed.

His reaction was certainly something that Kyoko couldn't help and giggle a little bit. How adorable. Still, it wasn't a situation to patronize someone nor would it be beneficial to their situation whatever it may be. So she listened to his words with an open ear. She could understand him quite well and his struggles were very similar to her own. Being a girl who relied on weapons more than ninjutsu or genjutsu herself it made a lot of sense the issues one had with ninja weapons and their effectiveness. It was something she had to deal with herself as she had grown as a shinobi, but she overcame and honestly, she felt anyone could with the right mindset and teachings.[break][break]

So she would help him out after all she could see a bit of herself in him. "I won't sugarcoat it, but it is difficult to be a weapon user amongst the tons of ninjutsu and genjutsu specialists. They will generally out-range you and out-pace you in so many regards, but doesn't the appeal of beating them with your own hands even more exciting?" Kyoko would brush her hair back putting the strands that framed her face behind her ears. Taking a few steps back she would grab a small item from her left pouch and extend it revealing a bo staff. "Alright show me what you got." She would essentially challenge him to a duel to help him out and see what he could do. After all the best way to analyze a weapons user was to see how they conducted themselves in battle.

Hook, line and sinker. As much as Kita wanted to feel like he had this whole conversation on strings, he couldn't help but find some kinship with the lady. As much as he wanted to get into the whole fireball, inescapable torment and... painting fun patterns that do things, a big ol' blunt object to the temple appealed to his inner primate much more.

"Alright show me what you got."

Finally a shinobi who didn't talk like a fuckin' fortune cookie. A smirk washed over Kita's face, he'd nod, tap his wooden sword against the floor three times, a non-verbal count in.

While doing so, he'd eye up the opponent, the distance, the whole nine yards. A lot of things would flood in instinctually. The difference in height meaning he's gonna have to shift and adjust to her lower center of gravity, there's gonna be a lot more striking from above than normal. The reach difference as well, he'd eyeball up about a 20, maybe 25cm reach difference, if she's not overwhelmingly faster than him, gives him the luxury of being able to throw out an attack and forcing her to come in to respond to it.

Typically, the things like the shitty ground, plenty of stuff that with one good kick could turn into a projectile for him, would get thrown into the mix too. But today was different. Who needs stuff like that when you can just crush someone with serious strength?

After his count-in, during which he had the whole internal size-up of the situation, he'd move first. Give or take 10 meters between the two, would slowly turn to 3. A steady series of steps, weight towards the back foot, training sword in his left hand, with an orthodox stance, right leg in the back, left in the front, nothing too exciting. Getting caught with a quick check to the ankles or stomach while being too hasty closing the distance is one of his favourites, no way he's getting bit by that.

His hilt would be around his chest, diagonally going downwards, towards and away from him. It felt a bit pointless to try and protect a lot of his vitals towards his head, considering how much easier it is for his sparring partner to go for his groin, thigh and knees.

At 3 meters, Kita would take a moment, seeing if him being this close made his opponent want to do anything hasty, or if they'd be dancing for a little while longer before either makes a real move.

Using her bo staff was something Kyko wasn't as well versed in of all her weapons. She favored the sword she was entrusted by the Mizukage, but she knew she couldn't always rely on it as she wouldn't always have access to it. Keeping the blade safe when not going on dangerous missions seemed like the best course of action to her so she would find herself at times without it and this was one of those times. So to say she was handicapped on techniques for this spar was saying something, but she could still hold her own. After all, she got to Chunin at such a young age with her bukijutsu skills alone so she could deal with this handicap.[break][break]

She studied his movements and there was a slight flair to his movements. He was confident, but also primal. Someone who valued their skills with the blade quite thoroughly and focused it very hard. She felt a kinship with him on that front and despite her having her special eyes from her clan she would rely on her swordsmanship more often herself. So to say she understood his movements and how they were calculated was an understatement. A slight smile appeared on her face as he came in for a slash towards her which she would simply angle the bow staff to take the hit and guard from it. His sword and her staff were in a deadlock as she commented, "You have a good sense of distance and form, but be careful not to leave yourself with too many openings." [break][break]

After saying this she would duck down in an attempt to sweep at his feet with her leg, but this was a feint as she would continue the momentum to have her staff swing behind her and swing around to smack him in the back of the head while he focused on her feet. This would of course leave her slightly open for retaliation if he predicted it but with how fast she was rotating her staff it would protect her from an attack from above if he attempted to hit down again.
