In a dingy rundown house in some Kirigakure public housing, if you were close enough to the right room, you'd be able to hear a muffled set of expletives being let off at an astonishing rate. Peer through the keyhole and you'd see Kita, hands bound behind him, while he sits in the corner of his room with a less than pleased look on his face.

Today at the academy the concept of the jutsu was introduced, with practical exercises for it starting tomorrow. If Kita could blitz through those though and show this baby stuff is beneath him, maybe he'd be able to learn some real killer jutsu.

There was only one problem standing in his way, the prep work he had begun after he got home was a pretty do-or-die fiasco. He had gotten his mother to tie up his wrists with rope before she left for the evening, wherever she was going she wouldn't be back until the sun starts to rise and smelling of booze.

That meant if he wanted dinner tonight, he had better start realizing some things FAST. Rather than look at the material first, he tried to go through it intuitively. The chakra pattern, concept and execution all seemed like they should be self explanatory.

A deep breath brought pause to the cycle of curses he had been letting off one after another. He closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the wall.

Where can it be going wrong? Step one, relax the muscles. The less resistance from my own limbs, the easier this should be to execute.

Step two, begin to channel chakra like.... this...

Kita would trail off in though, the tip of his tongue peeking out the corner of his mouth, an embarrassingly concentrated expression sat on his face. He'd sit as still as possible, head still against the wall, eyes still closed. Feeling out his inner pathways, dotting the I's and crossing the T's.

This was the most likely culprit, so this needed the most attention.

The flow of chakra wasn't the only thing dictating the outcome of the jutsu being successful or not. There were several other factors that could contribute, but focusing on them right now would be hasty. While arrogant, Kita was no fool. Everything after this is built upon the foundations here, and if unrefined could cause lower potency.

If he couldn't even get a basic bitch technique like this firing at 100%, how's he meant to cause some real havoc later down the line?

The scene is still Kita, knees curled up, sat on the floor in the corner of his room with his back towards the wall. Hands bound behind the back, head tilted back with his eyes closed. Slowly and intricately he'd thread his chakra through his pathways, trying to feel any snags or irregularities.

"Come on you sonuva..."

He'd mutter, lips wriggling, visibly reflecting when he got to trickier parts of the process to try and feel out. For the time being, his focus was mainly just this. Memorising the sensation, checking that everything is flowing as it should be and hammering out any issues.

While he may hold a high opinion of himself, that has not caused him to be lax when it comes to scrutinising his own performance and technique, rather, the opposite. He'd be very diligent now, so tomorrow when practical exercises roll around the instructor won't be able to say anything but "Wow Kita, you're so strong and talented, you're going to Jounin straight away!".

It was only a testament to Kita's abilities that he was able to maintain these delusions while also painstakingly triple-checking his methodology on attempting this jutsu.
