Best way to keep a secret is to make them think they know the answer.

Despite their protestations, it really wasn't much of a choice for Keiji. They begged, they pleaded - but they were of no concern to him, or the mission. Chances were they were the kidnappers anyway: the children had been with them. So Keiji silenced their cries, and the forest was silent once more.

Keiji grabbed one of the children, ordered Sho to do the same. He didn't bother explaining his rationale for the killings to the boy, regardless of whether he inquired or not. And after that, the dash back to the coast was silent.

Whether the mission was a full success of not would be determined by the Mizukage - as far as Keiji was concerned, their primary goal had been accomplished - even if the mystery wasn't solved. They could always send another team if they were all that bothered, or just wait and see if the kidnappings ceased after Keiji slew the duo.

Assuming everything went uneventfully, Keiji and Sho crested the hill overlooking the dock and carried the children down to the boats. Loading them onboard, they'd chart a course back for Kirigakure - mission accomplished, in Keiji's mind at least. At least there'd been a nice treat for him, there at the end.

I would know him in death
At the end of the world

Sho let out a shout at the sudden killing of the man and woman who had been attacked by the bear. His intentions had been to save them too after all... But that didn't seem to be Keiji's thought and he was told to grab one of the kids. So he did, but he couldn't help but keep asking questions towards Keiji about why he had chosen this path.

But no answer came, so they kept on going at a max pace for the children until they came over a dune, a crest that opened out towards the beach and coast. Boarding was a simple process.

Mission accomplished? It had been a strange mission, that was most certainly a fact. But at least the important part with the kids being saved had been accomplished.

The ship rocked along the waves and some of the kids had asked about food. Sho just pointed in the direction of the crew since he didn't actually know where the food or resting areas for the kids would be. The breeze was nice and it was not a particularly long way home from this point, but the walk once they docked again would take a while and Sho was not too pleased about that.
