Hisao had felt Ikana’s gaze and quickly willed himself not to look back or otherwise visually respond to it for the few seconds it took until she seemed to lose interest and move on. He had no intention of letting either know more than what he had already let slip.

He’d felt a brief moment of appreciation for An’s words and understanding and gave her a slight bow as a means of thanks before moving back a few steps so as to not be in the way of the incoming sparring match. He had not known any specifics on what movesets the two might have brought and decided to be near enough where he could likely still interfere would he need to, but still far enough away where he would not be so easily caught by wayward swings or the like.

"In that regard I am at your disposal”

He would have replied matter of factly to confirm they could at least rely on him as a nurse. He’d secretly hoped that neither would hold back, unless it got lethal of course. However he had felt the excitement of watching a sparring match again and this especially close, even if it was just a friendly match between two fairly young people. Any fights he got to watch these days were usually between Kobashi and some of the other adults, or when they randomly broke out in the streets. Neither was ever meant for him to see really.

As An had moved to attack he’d admired her speed and fluidity, made an approving hum and crossed his arms, effectively giving the sparring match his full attention.

[Miyamoto Ikana]

When An took on a form that was similar to Ikana's own and came on the offensive, she proceeded to shift her stance in tandem. Twisting her body sideways as to make her body smaller and give less room for approach, she proceeds to lift and raise her own leg to intercept the oncoming kick, only to place her foot back down upon realizing it was little more than a feinted blow. Her eyes scanning her foe closely as the jab came for her midsection. Ikana promptly leans her body slightly back as she seeks to grasp An's wrist then and pull her inwards as she extends her leg outwards in a powerful kick to her stomach. Not strong enough to send her flying backwards, but enough to make her feel recoil. No, now Ikana was going to go on the offensive.

Before deciding to chain into her blows. As she lowers her leg, she pulls again inward on An's arm, this time with both arms as if to drag her inwards, before attempting to crouch inwards and slam the white haired girl in the ribs with her elbow. Her movements transitioning to become swift and light. Beginning to cycle and rock around An. Both hands up now and body level, not too far from her body, the backs of her palms facing out towards the Gure. Considering An gave her the consent, she wasn't going to soften her blows in the slightest. Instead, she would learn a lesson today about endurance. Pain. Ikana's reflexes and movements were practiced. As she read closely each movement. It was going to be a "fun time".

Looking to read her body language, face, and eyes. In other words. She was prepared to beat this child's ass into the dirt.

An's face displayed a mixture of concentration and determination as she engaged in the sparring match with Ikana-sensei. She had anticipated the kick to be a feint, and when Ikana's foot made contact with her own, she used the opportunity to pivot on her standing leg, transitioning smoothly into a spin. This allowed her to evade the kick aimed at her stomach and put some distance between herself and her opponent.

As Ikana pulled her inward, An used her free hand to push against the ground, giving herself extra leverage to resist the pull. She managed to maintain her balance, though not without effort. When Ikana crouched and attempted to strike her in the ribs with her elbow, An made a split-second decision. She dropped to the ground, executing a low sweep kick aimed at Ikana's legs in an attempt to disrupt her balance. At the same time, she rolled to the side, putting some distance between herself and Ikana, and then swiftly got back on her feet.

An's approach had shifted from trying to match Ikana's strength head-on to using her agility and speed to her advantage. She knew she had to keep moving, dodging, and looking for openings in her opponent's defense. With determination in her eyes, An spoke, "Ikana-sensei, you're tough, but I won't give up easily!" She resumed her defensive stance, ready for whatever Ikana had in store next.

An couldn't help but steal a quick glance in Hisao's direction. He stood there, arms crossed, his attention fixed on the match. An appreciated his presence; it was reassuring to know that he was nearby in case anyone needed medical assistance, and she felt like she would need one. She wanted to make sure he was comfortable as well, given that this was a bit of an unexpected turn of events.

Hisao would continue to watch from a distance and try to mentally log each girls’ movement from attacks to defences. This had somehow worked out into his favour, at least so far. Not only would he be able to try and make use of their tactics himself, but there was the slight chance he might even be able to offer a pointer or helpful criticism. This also served as an opportunity to get some insight into their respective movesets, should they have to work together - or against one another - later on..
His expression would be as neutral as could be, betraying none of his thoughts. His body language would be more casual, leaning on one leg more than the other and a slight tilt to his head as he all but stared at the two fighters.

As Ikana pulled An forward, he thought of how she could have twisted it, popping the younger girls’ shoulder out of the socket and rendering it all but useless to her. The image flashed before his imagination but for a moment as the movement of the actual fight brought him back out of it. It seemed to him that while they were sparring, the intent to quickly defeat the other was perhaps not necessarily a priority for either of them.

So much for not holding back. Still. Training is training

Hisao thought to himself, watching An roll to the side and create some distance.

A low kick was an attack for sure, but what she had expected from it, he did not know since she had then retreated instantly without any visual indication at least to want to make use of it should it have worked. Instead An had created some distance and taken a defensive stance, effectively letting her opponent recover from the attack should they have needed to.

Hisao caught the quick glance An made his way and had to restrain himself from letting years of Kobashi’s scolding loose. Instead he swallowed it down and watched Ikana intently to judge her reaction to this - would she make use of An’s defensive, held-back approach and more distractible nature or would she make it so An could see or hear her next attack coming. Perhaps she had not even caught onto any of this. Either way, Hisao hoped it would be a lesson for them both and studiously watched as the fight continued. If it continued like this, he doubted either would actually end up needing any medical assistance.

[Miyamoto Ikana]

For an academy student, An was definitely getting better. Especially when it came to her reaction time and responses to Taijutsu. When Ikana dedicated to strike An's center of mass, there was a brief moment of pause. Where An sought to dive and sweep low. To deliver a sweeping strike towards Ikana's feet. She'd feel it connect, and Ikana found herself stumbling back for a moment. As An sought to roll out of the way to gain distance. However, in the next moment?...The brunette would have quite literally vanished from sight. Utilizing a taijutsu principle of enhanced speed movement, before Hisao and An, it might have seemed as if Ikana had just blurred or vanished out of existence. Especially to the untrained eye. In reality, this was but a feat of her efforts in the pursuit of speed.

Until Ikana would have dashed and reappeared right below An...Her leg shooting up into the sky, to kick the small girl in the chin, to send her flying upwards into the air. The Dancing Leaf Shadow. Assuming she was successful, An would find herself shooting upwards, whereas Ikana would blur again as to appear in the air with her. Before looking to enter a rotating spin kick towards the girl to send her knocking back down towards the grass and soil. "Konoha-Senpuu!" Assuming she were hit directly by either, it would have likely been a horrible sensation. Enough to take even grown men out of a fight. However, pain was an excellent teacher. And every hurt was a lesson.

This can not stop the user from taking damage from a fall nor can it stop their movement when being hit from an attack.

The user swiftly gets below the opponent and launches a swift yet powerful kick up into their body, sending them flying up into the air. In the blink of an eye, they will maneuver themselves in the blind spot and 'shadow' of their opponent as to not be seen while seemingly "floating" beneath them, allowing them a chance for a follow up attack.

As An lay on the ground, her body battered and bruised, she couldn't help but feel a profound sense of disappointment in herself. Her determination and competitive spirit had driven her into this sparring match with Ikana-sensei, and for a moment, she had believed she could hold her own. But the reality of her limitations had come crashing down on her, leaving her with a bitter taste of defeat.

Her breaths came in short, painful gasps as she tried to steady herself. An's vision gradually cleared, but the world still seemed to spin around her. She could taste blood in her mouth, and her jaw throbbed relentlessly. It was a stark reminder of the brutal reality of shinobi training, where injuries were a constant companion.

An's frustration and self-criticism gnawed at her. She had trained tirelessly to improve her skills, and yet, here she was, unable to finish what she had started. Her pride took a hit, but she knew that acknowledging her limits was a crucial aspect of growth as a shinobi. With a heavy sigh and a pained expression, she spoke up, "Ikana-sensei, you got me. I can't continue." An admitted defeat, recognizing that pushing herself further would only risk more serious injury.

Her gaze shifted to Hisao, who had been observing the match. She called out to him, her voice strained, "Hisao-san, I need your help." She had seen Hisao's calm and capable demeanor during the whole training session, and that knowledge brought her a measure of comfort. She knew she was in good hands.

Hisao caught Ikana stumbling briefly and confirmed this thought - a missed opportunity - as Ikana caught herself and retaliated, now much more effectively than before.

Good. Hm. Impressive speed on that one

He thought, trying to catch where Akana moved to next but, just like An, unable to keep up and so being unable to pinpoint her in-between her strikes. As she got underneath An and kicked her in the jaw, Hisao’s eyes widened. There were plenty of ways to incapacitate your enemy but going directly for the neck or head? He praised An lucky she had some fighting capabilities, as a blow like that could have likely done terrible damage on someone less fortunate. Even so, it seemed to have hurt a lot and so, had An not called the fight off herself a moment later, Hisao would have done so, already having had moved closer by three steps, not getting directly in between the two but definitely getting close enough for it to be obvious he was there with some intent to maybe interfere should this continue, even before he had to utter any words.

Assuming Ikana would have stood down, Hisao would turn to An as she spoke again, now directly to him. He forced himself to move through the unease in his stomach. This was the third time she had used his name so casually. He wasn’t entirely sure what the etiquette would have been in this scenario. Her friendliness had seemed so strange to him, but he didn’t necessarily dislike it either? It was strange to have someone outside of his siblings use his name, but perhaps not as unwelcome as he would have thought. She was younger than him and he technically out-ranked her right now, but she was also a guest. No matter what, she had asked for help and help she would get. He would have to reschedule this minor crisis for later in private.. For now, he would forgo using her name as best he could, that way he couldn’t mess up whatever social etiquette conundrum he had found himself in.
He briefly shook his head to clear his mind from these thoughts and approached her as she lay on the ground. He then gave her his best comforting smile and knelt by her side.

"I am here. Please, save your words. For now, breathe with me. Let me know when your vision clears ”

He would then help her through some simple breathing exercises until her breathing evened out. He would inspect her for any other superficial damages, while they did so. When her breath had normalised, he would have gently helped her sit and made eye contact with her, checking her pupils. Assuming the damages to be mostly focused on where the last strike hit, he would have then wanted to examine her mouth and jaw for injuries.

"Please, open your mouth - ah, if you would not mind”

Assuming she would, he would hold her face, with extremely gentle touches, almost as if he feared to touch her. He would then have used the bandage technique to apply some thin cloth with some antiseptic salve to cling to the inside of her cheek.

"Do not eat or drink within the next three hours as it heals. If you fear dehydration, I can give you something to help you for the next few hours until then. After then you should still be careful when chewing - some of your teeth may have come slightly loose. You will also need to reapply this bandage, if you do not have any I can give you some or you can come by the hospital and I or someone else will assist you.”

He said sort of, matter of factly, as he swiftly applied the bandage. He would then slightly hover next to her, not touching her but staying close. He wanted to make sure she had understood and that she didn’t rush to stand until ready to do so.

If An seemed okay, he would have looked up at Ikana. He didn’t remember seeing her take any brutal hits, but he had to make sure.

"Miss Ikana-san, that was a very effective strike. Very impressive. Let me know if there is anything you need”

"You're doing better An. But you're not quite at my level." She didn't say it playfully or meanly. Instead, rather matter of factly. 

An conceded and asked for help. Hisao offered his aid. Giving medical knowledge and expertise. It was a stunning night and day compared to what she'd seen offered by the Kuronmeru. Then again, they did seem to be opposites in some regards. Even their hair schemes seemed to be conflictive. Yin and Yang. She looked her student over, and she felt some sense of fascination. However, she did have to digest this feeling of confusion? No. That wasn't quite it. It seemed almost alien. The level of hospitality he offered. He seemed neutral and kind, open at a glance, and yet also reserved.

"How long have you been a medical ninja?" She asks him. Perhaps she was a little abrupt in the manner she asked it, but that was life. "The way you move. It seems like you're quite experienced. As if you've done it many times." There wasn't a seeming moment's hesitation or inexperience. He knew how to dress the wound and do it swiftly. How to check for broken bones. How to do his medical diagnosis. It was a thought that stuck with her. She in turn was curious. To be brother of one of the swordsmen of the hidden mist. She'd thought he'd aspire to train with another. The chance to show his skill and go farther in heights. Yet...

That did not seem to be the case here.

An winced as Hisao examined her injuries, the pain from Ikana's kick still lingering. She appreciated his calming presence, finding solace in his expertise. As he applied the bandage, she followed his instructions and nodded, determined to follow the necessary precautions.

"Thank you, Hisao-san," An replied, her voice slightly strained but grateful. She slowly got up with Hisao's assistance, making sure not to put too much pressure on her injured jaw. She felt a mixture of embarrassment and frustration, but Hisao's composed demeanor helped soothe her nerves.

An adjusted the bandage slightly, testing the movement of her jaw as she spoke. "And thank you, Ikana-sensei, for the training. I've learned a lot from today's sparring, and I'll make sure to improve." Despite the pain, An couldn't deny the thrill of the challenge and the opportunity to grow. Looking up at Ikana, An couldn't help but feel a sense of rivalry and determination. "You're right, Ikana-sensei. I have a long way to go, but I'm not giving up. I'll catch up to you one day," she said, a spark of determination in her eyes.

Hisao had steady hands as he helped An up and only once he felt she could stand by herself did he let go and put the remaining bandages away.

"It is no trouble”

He answered in a practised manner, smiling a little awkwardly and quickly going back to putting his things away again. He was looking down as the two spoke and his gaze didn’t lift until Ikana spoke directly to him.

"Oh. I’m really not- I mean. Thank you. I suppose it depends on your definition of ‘medial ninja’. I’ve worked for the Medical Corps for about a year now.”

Hisao, clearly unused to any form of praise, felt his ears redden slightly and quickly deflected the question somewhat. However after a second or so he would continue on anyways, being swayed more easily than he would have liked to admit by An’s quiet curious tone.

" I’m.. As far back as I can recall I’ve always wanted to.. Help. Survive. This simply seemed like the best way to go about that.. It's a scary world, in here and out there..”

He said, his voice had grown somewhat sad and quiet and he cut himself off at that. He thought back on all the times in the past his family had paid for his safety with theirs. Of all the times Kobashi had returned bruised and bleeding. Of all the people he had healed from missions gone wrong in the name and honour of people they barely knew yet still followed loyally. Of the children he'd patched up, just like now. Of those he failed.

"We all survive in different ways. This happens to be mine”

He says looking at Ikana, matching her matter of factly demeanour. He feared there might be something there, behind her eyes. Something more than idle curiosity of a stranger, hid behind an aura of general indifference. He had to remember, these were still strangers. He could not trust them, not really.
