Itsuki wasn't entirely sure why he was here, well, beyond extreme curiousity. He'd woken up to find that someone had made their way through his (admittedly tame) defenses around his bedroom to leave a note telling him to come to one of the more hidden training grounds at a specific time and come alone.

Did it seem dangerous? Yeap! A trap? Most certainly. And yet, for someone to have gotten into his room, leave a note, and leave without him ever being aware of it meant that they could have killed him or kidnapped him already. This meant that he had at least some chance of coming out of this summons alive if not unharmed, because it was a lot of effort otherwise. He hadn't been completely stupid of course, he was scheduled to meet with Miroru later in the day, and he'd prepared a note for her telling her where he had gone should he not show up.

It might be too late by then, but he figured it was a decent back up.

He'd also armed himself as best he could, unsure what might be waiting for him and not willing to go unprepared. But the lure of what it could be about was too strong for him to ignore.

Above, out of sight beneath an overcast sky, a figure draped in a cloak of midnight observed behind a mask that resembled that of a bird as it awaited for their target to move. The shadow had been patient, diligently waiting observing for days at a time, mentally going through the report, noting deficiencies as well as anything that could be considered an asset for the future and with that lore the shadow had made a decision afforded by their superior, sneaking into the room of the target, leaving a message for his eyes only and hoping that the assessment had been the right one. The shadow watched as the boy left and quietly tapped his wrist quickly, hearing the soft click of the radio channel coming to life and a rhythm of clicks that were answered with a pattern of their own, relaying a single message. "He is coming." Another set of clicks acknowledged the communication and the radio channel died with the same click it was activated. With the information relayed, the shadow disappeared in a haze of white, for now the die was cast and whether or not the boy would move on would be up to himself. in the outskirts of the village, the training grounds sprawled one after the other. Many suited for the basic training that were often reserved and used, others that were made with considerations to a specific sort of scenario to aid with the readiness of the village, yet among all of these training camps one stood out by simply how neglected it was. Training posts lay twisted, worn after many years of abuse, grass grew in random wild patches, discarded weapons lay rusted as grim reminders, holes and craters had been left as scars and trenches had been left, eroding as rebar began to poke through cement, weeds had overgrown the entrances and sandbags were left littered and ruptured. This was the location the boy had to go through and once he got there, more eyes would watch as he would boy would feel a longing to explore the training ground.

Arriving at the damaged and clearly 'abandoned' training ground, Itsuki couldn't help but be suspicious. There was no way that he'd be sent to a place that was actually abandoned, surely? The fact that there wasn't anyone else here could have meant it was early, but again... it didn't feel very likely. For a moment, Itsuki closed his eyes and focused on the Kagura's Mind Eye technique, his sensory bubble swelling out across the village as he searched for any chakra signatures that might give him a hint as to what was happening here.

At the same time he began to comb the training ground itself for any sort of hints, slowly and methodically seeking to find anything that might give him a clue as to what the heck was going on here. He was looking for anything that seemed out of the ordinary, anything that might be dangerous, and anything that might provide him with additional information. 

While something was telling him he didn't need to fear for his life, he was still going to be as cautious as possible, just in case. To ensure that caution, Itsuki also kept an eye out for any forms of chakra or non-chakra detection, scanning the area for cameras and observers equally, his search of the ground keeping him as out of sight as he could possibly manage.

In the derelict training field there was no soul but Itsuki. And outside the signature of critters within the bushes and eroded trenches and pillboxes, no animal could be detected. Whatever remained as old ordinance that hadn't been disposed but seemed too old to pose any real danger, weapons too old that rust had seeped into the steel or time had dulled its edge. Yet even when there was nothing but dust and echoes left in the site, the young Yamanaka wasn't quite alone in the training area. Eyes were observing from far way with lore brought from research and development, with techniques that had been passed from one and the other. , shapes and forms draped in ghost weave cloaks that reduced their signature to that of a critter, perfectly unmoving, perfectly in their blending in with nature that made them look to the untrained eye that nothing was there. They took mental notes, doing further observation. Taking metals notes to bring forward to their leader. Far beneath the ground, others observed through a crystal ball, following the intends of the Yamanaka as they would observe his progress and decided what further action they would take in the induction process. One single figure would give a slight nod, almost imperceptible nod and above, on the dilapidated training yard, byzantine mechanisms came to live. A series of controlled explosions began, setting up smoke in one of the trenches. Traps opened on the soil, looking like like dark maws that only promised death. Hidden launchers with dulled kunai and shuriken began their activation sequence, a single door inside one of the pillboxes began to open, the sonorous groan of a metal door that heralded some sort of shelter from the mayhem of the training field.

Itsuki was perhaps one of the most situationally aware people in the entire village by virtue of his sensory skills, Toshizou-sama had said sensors of their ability were so rare that only a handful ever existed at a time. And yet he couldn't pick anything out of the ordinary here, which would normally make him relax.

But he had been told to arrive here by someone who had managed to sneak into his room undetected, which meant that the lack of anything notable only had him further on edge. As tense as he was the explosions in the training ground had him moving before he even really considered anything else, the small Yamanaka darting away from the explosions only to stall slightly as the ground began to open up around him.

Flipping himself over the first and beginning to avoid every pitfall through spinning motions that resembled the wind his chakra embodied, the addition of projectiles had Itsuki draw four of his own shuriken, coating them with chakra and spinning them around his own body as fast as he could with Fūton: Kaiten Shuriken even as he tried to find a safe path. Between his rapid dodging and the whirling shuriken he was able to keep the projectiles away from him, but he knew it wasn't going to last.

The creaking of a door nearby screamed danger to him, but the increasing difficulty he was having avoiding taking damage while outside told him that he needed to get out of the training ground... and there was no chance he could make it to the exit.

Gathering his strength, Itsuki was forced to use Shunpo to escape the projectiles that kept blocking him from safety, the high speed movement zipping him across the field and into the dubious safety of the now open pillbox.

He wasn't going to let his guard down for an instant however, and the shuriken remained rotating around him with a dangerous whirring sound.

DESCRIPTION:

By coating wind-natured chakra into weapons the user is capable of controlling their weapons remotely. While they are in this state the user has free range over the weapons trajectory and the weapons themselves gain a natural boon in their range, effectively allowing them to weave around obstacles to hit their targets from much further than standard ranges. The user must utilize their hand(s) to direct the movements of the weapons & in the event of multiple weapons one is capable of using each hand to control different weapon trajectories. While this technique can be used effectively from afar the control one can place upon them tend to lessen with extended use that normally come with large distances far beyond their standard effective throwing range. However, the amount of chakra an individual must use to effect one's weapons varies in terms of both size and design. Range & Control can also be reduced based on the design of the weapon itself such as a Shuriken, designed for flight, would have a greater control range than a Katana. Can control weapons upward to 3 posts while within range.

DESCRIPTION:

Within the Step Method's branching techniques, the Flash Steps is the most refined for pure velocity and acceleration in one, linear direction. From the point of origin until the shinobi stops, they are able to move at an incredible pace, practically vanishing from sight. However, this is an incredibly taxing method of movement, and if used to move too far it can stress the body. It cannot reach the speed granted by Body Flicker, but it is not quite as devastating on the user. Traveling beyond fifteen meters with one step will cause great stress to the body. It still has a high chakra cost, but the muscle strain will immobilize the shinobi for one round as their body recovers. It is possible to utilize multiple flash steps back to back, but cost must be paid individually.

The door behind the young Yamanaka closed shut, muffling the sound of explosions and ordnance outside, as total darkness would meet him. The sounds of battle would then die, stopping almost by an unseen command as if their purpose had been fulfilled. Silence reigned as darkness reigned in the long corridor until a soft blue lambent was lit in front of the boy, ethereal blue fire burned from sconces that revealed a hall way that seemed to stretch for eternity, inviting the guest to move forward. A close inspection of the floor would show that there were no pressure plates, no slits from where weapons would lunched on the walls, and no hidden doors or ceiling traps. No sound but that of his own breathing and the spinning of the blades above him from his technique. Indeed, there was only one way and that was forward. But if Itsuki would notice anything, it was that the as he would take a step forward it almost seemed that he had not advanced at all. Each step would end exactly where it had begun and behind him, the rusted slab of door that had ushered him had, for all intends and purposes vanished as if it had never been there at all. Slowly, the walls began to lose their coloration, stepping from a dark ochre into a slab grey that seemed more common with prefabricated structures. Its smoothness replaced by the roughness of unprimed, unfinished concrete until the hallway suddenly ended on a dead end marked by three doors, each of them looking like each other save for a kanji that had been painted red and now began to fade. The one of the right was marked with the word 'will', the one in the middle with the word 'teamwork' and the last one with the word 'skill'. And Itsuki would need to choose soon.

Total darkness was a little less terrifying for one with strong sensory skills, however it still effected him all the same in that visceral sense. The fact that the sounds from outside the bunker stopped told him everything he needed to know about the situation. Someone was absolutely in control of this whole thing, and they had wanted him down here. The only question really was 'why' and 'what do I do'. Starting slightly as the corridor he was in began to light up, Itsuki began to step forward cautiously, the whirring sounds of his shuriken dying down as he returned them to his hands.

Moving slowly enough to be sure he wasn't setting off any traps, at least to the best of his ability, he realised just how disorienting this place was, it felt as though he wasn't going anywhere at all. Bringing one hand up he formed a seal to try and use Kai to break out of any genjutsu he might have been in, just in case.

Regardless of his success or lack thereof, he eventually ended up in a section that resembled concrete more than anything else, coming to a trio of doors. For a moment he stared, trying to figure out which was the correct choice. All three had important attributes on them for Konoha, but which one was right? Teamwork might be important to Konoha, but it wasn't at the heart of a shinobi. Skill was important too, very important... but...

Stepping up to the door with the Kanji for 'Will' Itsuki made his choice.

Skill was nothing without the will to use it, and if he were to consider his own strengths... well, will was perhaps his best of the three at this point.

DESCRIPTION:

Kai is a technique invented to counteract the targeting of Genjutsu, working by halting one's chakra flow with a hand seal before drastically increasing the rate of chakra flow within oneself, forcing the opposing chakra out of the body. This can also be used on another person by manually forcing a surge of chakra into their body through direct contact, breaking them of their mesmerized state. One's skill to break an illusion depends on their skill and understanding of Genjutsu, as some may prove too powerful to escape by conventional means.

And so the boy would choose and take the door to the right. As soon as he would step into the door, the door itself would open with, inviting the young Yamanaka to step into another dark maw. Once inside darkness would greet him once more, the door closing behind him. Suddenly lights above would open and reveal what seemed to be barracks that had been left misused for sometime. Not destroyed or fallen to entropy, simply that they hadn't seen use in some time. Racks of equipment remained, covered by a thin film of dust, bunks stood emptied save for the packed rolls that made the bedding to a side, open restrooms available to the occupants and mirrors that where and oddly what seemed to be moss clung to the corners. Yet, there was no way to enter or leave but the door and if Itsuki were to return to the door, then he would notice that even with all his might, he could not open it on his own, even if he had tried with all his might. Suddenly however, from the walls water began to pour, with no place to go, the water would begin to accumulate in the room, prompting Itsuki to plan his escape, using the means available to him in the room to either escape or perish.

The room he found himself in was eerie in its abandoned nature, dust and moss implying a level of neglect that left an odd feeling down the spine and a narrowing of his eyes as he tried to figure out what was going on. The room seemed to be a dead end, but when he turned to leave the door had already closed behind him, its sheer size and the nature of this whole thing meaning he wasn't likely to be able to open it with his strength alone.

And then water started to pour in.

For a moment the Yamanaka stared incredulously as it flowed down the walls and started pooling rapidly across the floor. Were they really going to try and drown him? Then again, all those explosions and projectiles weren't exactly gentle either. For a moment he considered his options before turning towards the door and flipping through a series of seals with his left hand, the compressed spheres of air formed by Fūton: Shinkūgyoku gathering in his chest and shooting out towards the doorway, Itsuki hoping that he could damage the doorway enough that he would be able to get out.

Should that prove unsuccessful, he would sigh and reach for his gear, pulling out his gas mask and air tank. Popping out the filter and replacing it with the tube connected to the air tank, he was able to create a slightly cumbersome rebreather system as the water began to creep up his legs.

Sloshing through the water, Itsuki would start looking for anything that might open the door and let him out, buttons or switches or anything unusual. He had more time than his... tormentors... had expected to look around after all.

DESCRIPTION:

The caster of this technique takes a deep breath, using the hand seals to knead Fūton chakras in their gut. At the formation of Dog, the chakra becomes highly compressed and tightly woven. Once they are expelled, they take the form of spheres the size of golf balls. These spheres have a very formidable piercing capacity, being able to pierce through objects better than bullets. Having incredible speed, these spheres are also released over an extensive range, making avoiding them nigh impossible.

As the water continued to rise, the young Yamanaka tried to open the door, but despite all he tried, the door would not budge. In fact it would be as if it was welded unto the wall, the handle utterly unmovable, even against whatever technique the boy would try, no matter if he put all his strength to try and force the door open. Time was seemingly beginning to grow shot, as the water continued to accumulate, now forcing Itsuki to swim rather than to slosh in the water, the mask that he had brought with him would buy the boy some time, but unless he found a way out, he would drawn once water had filled the barracks and the air of his tank and mask ran out. Debris began to float, packed bed rolls rose to the surface, mirrors, scrolls and weapons made not from steel and iron would follow suit. Yet, out the many mirrors that had been placed on the wall close to the restrooms, one of them seemed to remained affixed, stuck to the wall with no screws visible. Close to a group of bunks, a grate became loose, slowly dropping into the soil with a thud.

With the door clearly not working Itsuki quickly gave up on it, instead focusing on getting himself air first and foremost. With an hour of air in the little tank, he was able to avoid the sort of high energy panicking that others might have experienced in this situation. The room was filling fast, so he made sure to get it all attached before it became more difficult, taking one last breath from the room's air before switching to his protective gear.

It wasn't long before he gave up wading, quicker to swim considering how fast the room filled up. He would take a few moments to look around before noticing that only one of the mirrors in the open bathroom hadn't seemed to dislodge from the wall, the others seemingly floating up to the top of the room.

Swimming over to the mirror, the young Yamanaka examined it carefully for a moment, fingers tracing around it and finding it clearly stuck into the wall in a way that the others were not. With a slight shrug, he backed up a safe enough distance and gathered chakra into his arm, waving it as quickly as he could as blades of wind somehow managed to form beneath the water, connecting into one larger blade as he utilised Fūton: Kiru to try and cut into the mirror.

It was better than him trying to break what was possibly reinforced glass with his hands. He was young and small after all.

DESCRIPTION:

The user waves his hand and creates multiple blades of wind, which combine to form a single, large blade of air that can be thrown at the opponent. The blade can easily cut through flesh, as well as gouge wood and stone.

And the mirror began to crack, bubbles emerged from the fractures of the glass as the boys reflection stared back at him, almost prompting him to continue with what seemed to be the only way out. The only that he had found at the very least. As the water continued to rise, now almost reaching to the sealing, the young Yamanaka would have to try to use his technique, again and again until the glass would finally given in and collapse, the sudden change of pressure sucking him in a wave of water that made him slide until it stopped, as the water sloshed into grates. Whilst Itsuki tried to recover, the dark room he was in began to light softly and with it, steps resounding on the steps before him. A figure approached, bearing a mask that resembled that of a demon. His movements not indicating an intention to make harm but simply to observe, to see the reaction, to gauge what the young boy would do. And then the figure spoke, the voice sounded distorted through the metallic grills of his mask. "You took longer than I expected." The man said. "But I'm glad, you made it through, Itsuki." The man said. "What do you think is going on here?"

As he had guessed, the 'mirror' had been a way to get out of the flooded room, though it took more than he had expected to break it enough for the water to do the rest. While he had fully anticipated the water rushing out if this worked, and even stuck himself to the floor through kinobori, the sheer strength of the water dislodged him and kicked him out into the next room, the young Yamanaka forcing himself to his hands and knees and locking himself there until the water subsided.

The sound of footsteps drew his attention, and he got to his feet as calmly as he could, turning to look at the masked figure that approached, his own expression hidden behind the gas mask that had kept him from drowning moments prior.

Carefully pulling his mask off and running his hand through his hair, Itsuki shrugged slightly, "Rushing in there seemed unecessary, and could have thrown someone off if they expected me to drown quicker," he stated in response to the comment of how long he took, the gas mask and tank getting hooked onto his belt.

Staring at the (admittedly intimidating) masked figure, he considered his words for a moment. "Brought here through a note someone snuck into my room while I was sleeping, nearly killed a couple of times, and then met with a masked man... I'd say this was a test, probably the first of a whole bunch. I can't sense you properly right now, my eyes say person but my senses say cat, so that adds to the sense of secrecy... but you don't give me the same feel as the people that hang around Toshizou-sama, so ANBU?" he reasoned out.

Itsuki liked to know things, and this hypothesis certainly fit what he knew. That said, he was alert and ready in case the next test came suddenly... or if he was wrong.

"Not bad." Kazuto said as he removed his mask, revealing the face behind demonic mask. The Senju's features were darkened by the relative darkness of the room, holding a stern expression. "It was a test, yes." He said as pocketed the mask. "And yes, we're ANBU. Cloak and dagger, but not as extreme as Toshizo's lot." It was a way to say that they remained an organization that held to a code of conduct. He would soil his hands for the village but not at every cost, not if it meant fully compromising his own morals. "And you passed." He added. All the skill in the world was worth little if the boy before him didn't had the will to keep going, to see what was at the end. He knew he had the ability and skill, he had detected the signature of his armor and recognized there was something amiss, he recognized the way the tests had progressed. Of course there would be much training to be done. There was skills to polish, but Itsuki will learn all of that with time. The Senju would then extend his hand. "The choice is yours, Yamanaka Itsuki." He said, his features cracking slightly as he gave a faint smile. "You may return home, forget the letter, forget what you have seen, think of it as a bad memory. No bad blood between you and ANBU, no sabotage of your career." He explained, leaving no uncertain terms of what stepping away would entail. A door behind him would open, giving him the option to take. "Or you can take the black, be an unseen protector. Not for glory but for the village. You can join me, Itsuki and become my brother." Kazuto said.

He couldn't help the little smile that formed at being correct in his guess. He liked it when he was right, it meant his intel was good. It also gave him a good way to sidestep being dragged into the much more unpleasant black ops of the village, an organisation he didn't really know much about but had seen vaguely as members had been around his mentor for long stretches of time.

Itsuki was a little surprised that he had passed so easily, but figured that either they had been watching him a lot longer than he had realised, or this was meant to lull him into a false sense of security. After all, that sounded on brand for a shinobi test, make you think you passed and then BAM next test. Either way though, there wasn't too much thinking to be done about the whole thing.

Itsuki wasn't a shinobi for glory, he was a shinobi because at his core he wanted to make sure that he and those he cared about were safe. Only power could protect you, and he wanted to be powerful. Joining ANBU would help him get stronger, give him access to knowledge and potentially abilities he couldn't get elsewhere. Ultimately it was a no brainer for the young Yamanaka.
