Sachi skipped along the path to meet her older cousin (kind of), her pink hair neatly tied up in her usual attire, a box in her hands that held an unexpected gift. The rose-colored shinobi wasn't one for drug use or alcohol, mostly because she was far too busy with her responsibilities. Work was her addiction, and she was still underage for such indulgences. So when her father sent her a decorative box along with a letter, containing a thin, elaborately adorned pipe and an assortment of dried, crushed plants, it came as quite a surprise. She never imagined she'd be embarking on a journey to learn how to use such an instrument.

Her father, Inoru Kisei, hailed from the Nakahara Clan, which had an extensive knowledge of plants and cultivation, the dried-up Nakahara plants that came with the box cultivated by him for his daughter's use. Sachi had been raised with minor insights into the clan’s knowledge as she was both a Kisei and a Nakahara. However, her mother, Sumire, had urged her to focus primarily on the Kisei Clan's traditions, hoping to avoid Sachi specializing in too many areas at once.

The letter that accompanied the box described the various plants and their effects on the body and mind. It was both intriguing and a bit unsettling for Sachi. Her father reassured her that if her genetics were anything like his, she'd be fine; it was noted in the letter that she might be slightly resistant to the effects of the plants as he was himself. There was even a hint that these plants could have potential shinobi applications, though the specifics remained a mystery as her father had little knowledge of that area of usage.

The letter raised two significant challenges for Sachi. She had no idea how to use the pipe or the herbs properly. She had made some attempts, but confusion still lingered, even after she had tried to educate herself using library books, but the process remained hazy. Sachi's relative, Ichi-niisan, was a frequent smoker and might’ve held some knowledge of the Nakahara methods from the past. She hoped he might help her understand the practice, even if he couldn’t utilize it himself. Moreover, she fully trusted him and knew he would look after her if she ever found herself in a compromised state.

"Ichiiiii-niiiiiiiiiiiisaaaaaaaaaaan, it's been a whiiiiille!" Sachi exclaimed with a cheery grin, flailing her arms in the air as she approached her giant relative.

The letter contained another poignant note - that the pipe was a cherished heirloom, once belonging to their late grandmother on his side of the family tree.

[attr="class","skullbody"]A time of honor for the young smoker, to help teach the basics of the arts that he had watched his father use growing up. Ichi was no expert with the pipe in the way many of the Nakahara were, but he was capable of using the device for basic purposes and had even adapted his own sort of drugs for use like this. It was why he was still willing to teach the young rose of the Kisei, even if he was certain his brother, Taka, would completely disagree with letting her start before she turned sixteen at least. Which meant he would need to at least teach her the correct way: By taking her far past her natural limits for tolerance to make her monstrously able while not entirely sober. It was a great skill of Ichi's to stay as pleasantly aware and reactive as he did even while far from a state of normalacy.

It made this sort of training easier that it was family though, regardless of distance in relation Ichi saw anyone from the Kisei or Nakahara clans as true-blooded family. Today he had brought Sachi out onto the rolling meadows outside of the walls of Kusagakure, having left a shadow clone of himself with enough chakra to handle the basic paperwork since he did not see himself needing chakra to train Sachi in smokecraft. As he sat on the hill he would hear her coming from a distance and turn to wave back with a massive outstretched arm. Having brought little with him besides his pipe, a plethora of his personal blends, a box of matches, and the ash jar that he normally carried inside his yukata.

As the girl got closer his smile turned into a chesire grin, "Excited today I see. I'm glad to see you again as well Sachi-Chan. If you would take a seat and we can talk about what's going on. This session is about endurance towards the plants of our family, so we have time to burn." Ichi would state as he pulled out his own pipe proceeded to begin packing it with one of the seasonal blends that he had created.

Ichi was born to the Nakahara clan on the night of a Harvest Moon. Born with quite the green thumb he was assumed to be an inheritor of the clan's natural talents with plants. The roots ran deeper, however, as Ichi was born with a Kekkai Genkai, being a rare natural occurance of Wood Release outside of the Senju. In learning of this he has trained his kekkai to the best of his abilities. He is no master, seeing as he has no reference of Mokuton, but he has found a way to bring out techniques along side his own talents in a cohesive manner.

Ichi was born with Mokuton, but he was not graced with the same level of chakra as the Senju would be in his situation. Being roughly average for an individual, Ichi instead focused on the skills his birth clan preferred. Practicing his medical skills, he has gained a higher quality of Chakra Control. Ichi is much less likely to leak chakra than the average shinobi because of this.

Having practiced his skills with extending his senses outwards with the use of mokuton chakra, Ichi is particularly adept at sensing life in an area. Capable of finding life through the very nature around people. Within [20 meters] Ichi is capable of passively sensing out plant and animal life in a general sense. Able to differentiate it between plant and animal, but no further. Unlike chakra sensory Ichi can not more or less readily sense others based on their chakra, but instead purely senses the 'vitality' in things, though even those with seemingly boundless vitality will read the same as the elderly or a newborn to him. Also unlike usually sensory to actively search out individuals Ichi requires Mokuton, or the use of his pipe (though using it makes his position much easier to locate), as a catalyst to extend his senses, only going out as far as the technique's range, or twice his passive range in case of the pipe. It is also notable that the deceased, and those that feign death in some fashion, as through a poison or a jutsu, are completely invisible to Ichi. Notably the furthest he can extend his senses is [100 meters].[break][break]

Ichi is incredibly smart for someone his age, but he lacks the qualifications to be a scholar. This is because his intelligence is not found in understanding of principles and anything so magnificiently deep. It instead lies in his observational talents and ability to react to everything that is going on around him with an absolute calm. Being able to plan and act with just minute details to go off of, Ichi is best described as a schemer and a diplomat rather than a genius. This makes him perfect for roles that are heavy in Tactical and Diplomatic Decision Making, as he grasps larger images and can put together clues better than others. Effectively allowing him to take in the wider picture of everything going on and piece together practical responses in mere moments with little to no hesitation or error.

"Always, if it's Ichi-niisan teaching me," Sachi remarked cheerfully, displaying her trust and comfort in learning from her elder cousin. She settled down beside the familiar figure, taking out the kit given to her by her father, which contained an ashtray and a place to hold the kiseru.

"Endurance you say.” Sachi mused, an air of slight apprehension evident in her eyes. She recalled her initial attempt at using the pipe, which resulted in a coughing fit. Moreover, she hadn't experienced the effects of the plants as she hadn't smoked them for long enough. "My father suggested that smoking could be used for shinobi purposes. Does endurance have something to do with that?”

Taking note of the diverse lineup of plants and blends that Ichi had brought, Sachi marveled at the variety. "This is quite an array,” She noted eyes fixated in wonder at the plants and blends that Ichi had brought with him, apprehension overridden by genuine curiosity. "Is it standard within the Nakahara to be smoking so many plants? I’m quite amazed.” The girl had some knowledge of Nakahara plants but was limited to the basics of growing some of the plants. She was genuinely surprised that her father had sent a good variety of plants to smoke, unaware that the catalog of cultivated greenery that the Nakahara produced was massive in size.

Following Ichi's lead, she brought out her pipe, observing his actions carefully. "So, how much exactly will we be... smoking today?" she inquired, preparing herself mentally for what was in store.

Listening to everything as he prepared to light his own pipe and take a hit from it, releasing a pungent sent like nutmeg and a burning open fire. Inhaling for a good long moment before releasing a breath of equal proportion. Before passing her the odd little wick-lighter.

"Sweet summer child you are Sachi-Chan. I am even more eager to have you train tolerance with me today. While smoking can help, drug tolerance is part of the package, you need to know how to handle yourself while under influence and that means experiencing the goods, the bads, and the never-ending sessions," Ichi would say as he would take a second inhale off the pipe, "You asked how much we would be smoking, but the answer is yes. Your goal out here to me is to never exhale or speak without having taken a hit from your pipe. Breath control, lung capacity, tolerance, and more - all are frankly bits that get trained in the process of learning the hijutsu. I've never learned it myself since it was not in my cards over the years, but maybe one day? Who knows, but where I can't show you the jutsu I can teach you the bare minimum education of how to control the smoke in general."

Ichi would take his third hit demonstrating as he worked. His pauses in conversation where timed almost as he smoked and spoke out over what they were doing and continued to finish, "I hope you did not have plans with your friend who came home here with you, because this will likely go until Oba hits me upside the head for having to drag you home, hahahaha."

Sachi nearly dropped the lighter at the words of a "never-ending session.” She felt as though her curiosity got the better of her and although she was certainly apprehensive, she couldn’t help but be drawn to the notion of such harsh methods. "Aha, yes he says.” She thought to herself, as she listened to the goals set for her today. She mustered a practiced smile, nodding in agreement as she clumsily filled the pipe and ignited the lighter. The flame danced inside the metal pipe, and the aroma of burning plants filled the air.

Placing her lips over the pipe's end, she inhaled slowly, feeling the hot air and burning sensation in her chest. Her concentration shattered when her older cousin mentioned they would be there for a good while, her breath halting for a moment which forced the young genin to cough uncontrollably, tears welling up in her eyes. She wondered how Ichi could endure smoking for days on end, months even. Alone, she might have given up after the first wave of tears like how she did earlier in the week but now, she was far from giving up.

"He... already... left... for..."Her attempt to speak was cut short by another bout of coughing. Gasping for air, she took a moment to recover, using her handkerchief to wipe away the sweat brought on by the pain. After a deep breath, she took another inhale from the conduit and continued to speak.

"Konohagakure no-" She spoke slowly, adjusting to the process, fumes coming out of her mouth, not pacing herself as gracefully as the older cousin before her. "Kai-kun already left….returned back." Kai had stayed briefly and completed his mission before promptly departing their land of grass so she was technically free for the rest of the day.

Suppressing her cough, Sachi tried again, tasting the assortment of spices in the smoke, and attempting to remain calm.. Yet she still coughed intermittently, frustration evident in her furrowed brows. "Taka-niichan. Didn't say?" Her words emerged clumsily, and she wiped her eyes, determined to convey her message. "I asked him to be my…boyfriend for a year." Another cough followed, emphasizing her determination to share the news with a family member who wasn’t her doting parents. "I’m experimenting…” She got a few words in before breathing in deeply, taking a short break, and she returned to the kiseru's smoke.

[attr="class","skullbody"]It was a joy to be the first session with your family, to Ichi there were few honors higher. Being Kusa Lord was one of those, but that was still something he saw as incredibly shallow, his foundations unable to hold up that title still. Perhaps that was why he preferred his title within the council, 'The Judge' as that was truly all he was. That final stamp rather then the creator of ideas, he needed to help uplift his village's people before he could really do that sort of thing. His cousin asking him to do this for her was one of the best parts of that though, no shades in their wake, no eyes on his words, just family being family.

Hearing Sachi struggle Ichi watched with a bit of a devillish grin, this was how he had been taught as well. An evil sort of way to teach someone how to smoke a pipe as naturally as breathing in the air around them? Perhaps, but it was effective at normalizing the action. Though her words did get him to soften a bit with an eyebrow raising, taking his own hits as he spoke he continued their conversation in smoked words, "Well, well our little Sachi is growing up is she? I'm glad. For a moment I was afraid that you were going to be unable to find interest in relations like myself or unable to keep one like Taka-Niisan... don't tell him I said that though okay? Both of us have our own problems, so its good to see you're free of them... sort of."

Ichi would learn back, shifting so his head was going up hill so he could see Sachi from the side at least, "Do take your time to speak to respond by the way, I don't want to have to rush you back to town from lack of air, we have all the time in the world here, yeah? Besides that, why only a year? Seems like an odd approach to dating even for me, and I genuinely couldn't have more disinterest in the concept. Is he that big of an if? In that case you really should have talked it out more to see if you were wanting to commit to or not." It was a light level of chastisement, but Ichi wasn't exactly a romance guru himself when it came to this sort of thing. He just found her wording... concerning. Concerning for her own mindset, after all the courting of another was not a game to be played for a time and then discarded. At least Ichi had not once imagined it to be so.

As Sachi noticed her cousin's amused expression, a crooked smile appeared on the giant’s face and she felt like she was almost hacking out a lung. The gasping and wheezing reddened her cheeks like a tomato, the warmth enough to make the autumn day feel like summer. Once she stopped talking and paced herself slower, she gained control over her bouts of coughing and could enjoy the clouded air a little more. Although a burning sensation still engulfed the entirety of her throat, it wasn’t as intense as in the minutes before.

This was the first time Sachi had relaxed with family members in a while. It wasn't common for her to meet her kin within the glass village, as they were often occupied with their respective duties. Ichi-niisama was now the Kusa lord of the village, and Taka-niichan was busy training others like the twins, at least that was the last she had heard. They were the closest to her after her parents, so even if the smoking session was far from easy (more like torture), she was content with that alone. The Nakahara-centric training felt like a new side dish to her rice—extremely spicy and sweet, yet healthy and necessary for her growth.

The girl giggled at the Nakahara's remark, the pipe in her mouth as she gazed out onto the verdant hills flowing like water in the wind. She pondered what he meant by Taka-niichan not being able to keep one, finding a slight resonance with the notion. Following his advice, she regained her composure with the smoke, breathing in the fumes and exhaling slowly. The grinning giant offered criticism of her actions, highlighting the unorthodox and slightly immoral nature of her methods, particularly considering the strong emotions at play. She expected as much from her Ichi-niisan.

"Aha, well, I thought I was more like Taka-niichan and Ichi-niisan as well.” She started her voice scratchy, letting the smoke escape her lips, and then drew smoke from the kiseru, adjusting to a better rhythm. Her eyes hinted at an air of serenity due to the plants that Ichi provided. "I never had a need or desire for a relationship when I was younger, even though my parents insisted that it’ll come when I’m older.” She breathed out again, coughed for a bit, and then resumed. "I was also worried that I would be like Taka-niichan since I wouldn’t like a relationship to distract me from my career.” The girl tilted her head, as she coughed twice to remove the feeling in the back of her throat, blue eyes becoming a little hazed. She glanced back at her cousin before looking down at the meadow again.

"I still don’t know what it means to be in ‘love’ so I suppose the ‘if’ lies with me,” Sachi paused, making sure she was inhaling the smoke properly with each line she said. It was slipping her mind here and there while she was relaying the events that took place in Konoha. "I anticipated lightly testing out a hazy relationship or talking it out more with him wouldn’t have made an impact on me, or give me an answer to how I felt.”

The pinkette folded her arms together remembering the events that made her feel perplexed, the vapors from her lip making her appear crossed. "I started testing it out to see if I liked going on dates while in Konoha, but he believed we were partners through that exchange. I didn’t like the situation so I changed it, in a way where I felt like I wouldn’t regret it.” She tapped the soot inside of her pipe, adding more plants to the metal base. "I thought a year would give me an answer to my feelings…so I could give him a proper answer. It was more so for me than him.”

"Aah, I wonder how long would it take for me to know if I don’t even know what those feelings feel like?” She gave an exasperated sigh, huffing out the fumes before nodding twice. "A year should be enough given our distance…”

A little clumsily, she relit her kiseru. As she drew in the new fumes from the plants, she leaned back, looking at the sky, her limbs feeling like they were turning into gelatin. "Niisan is probably the wrong person to ask, but what does it mean to be in love? Like my parents, Saya-senpai kept saying, 'When I know, I'll know' but it's quite vague. It feels like I'm missing a key element." Her speech became rambly as the pain in her throat subsided, her usually talkative nature shining through."I still treat the relationship very seriously even without the romantic inclinations, but I would do that for anyone given the circumstances, not just because it's him. Aha, perhaps that makes me a bad person."  Her speech ended her having another coughing fit, her eyes tearing up as she used her hand to fan herself.

Adjusting his pipe slowly as he leaned onto the soft earth so that he spilled nothing within the bowl of the pipe to the ground below. It took a few minutes for her to say her whole piece and he took a moment to ponder what he wanted to say before responding. At the end of the day, Ichi wanted people to live their lives their way even it that meant that sometimes someone had to trip and burn before they could learn of a better way to live. Sachi, from his perspective, was going down a very steep hill and while it wasn't a sheer cliff it certainly looked like one in the outset. He settled for the less commital, general advice.

"Love is a hard topic to answer when you feel no compulsion or attraction to anyone. For me its a smile on someone's face and the accomplishment that comes with having made someone's day better. Though I suppose I have already found my true love and that is why I do not look at others like the majority do," Ichi would state nonchalantly, talking as if it weren't a huge deal to start with, "Its a bit hard to explain having something thats intangible be the thing that you love, especially when there feels no rhyme or reason for it, but perhaps that is how attraction really works for one person to another?"

He phrased it as a question so that his cousin could ponder the idea with him as he took a long drag from his pipe without moving and exhaled a moment later, the pipe never so much as twitching which showed some level of serious mastery with the object. Continuing from where he left off his gaze finally shifted from the sky to his cousin, "Sachi, you are not a bad person, though I can certainly say what you're doing is probably... less then good. Good people do bad things, sometimes its for love, and sometimes its out of a compulsion to satisfy. Kai, was his name correct? The way you describe it sounds... unhealthy, but I do not think the fault for that lies with you. To my own experience to Saya-Chan's I think the answer is something you already know. Take this with a grain of salt but you sound... uncomfortable at best and outright unhappy at worst. I will not tell you what to do, because that is not my place - but I do not see a year doing anything more then changing what your going through at the moment into a deeper regret."

Ichi's SA's and Techniques in Use:[break][break]

『Harvest Moon's Child』
Ichi was born to the Nakahara clan on the night of a Harvest Moon. Born with quite the green thumb he was assumed to be an inheritor of the clan's natural talents with plants. The roots ran deeper, however, as Ichi was born with a Kekkai Genkai, being a rare natural occurance of Wood Release outside of the Senju. In learning of this he has trained his kekkai to the best of his abilities. He is no master, seeing as he has no reference of Mokuton, but he has found a way to bring out techniques along side his own talents in a cohesive manner.

『Weaver of Wood』
Ichi was born with Mokuton, but he was not graced with the same level of chakra as the Senju would be in his situation. Being roughly average for an individual, Ichi instead focused on the skills his birth clan preferred. Practicing his medical skills, he has gained a higher quality of Chakra Control. Ichi is much less likely to leak chakra than the average shinobi because of this.

『The Festival's Atmosphere』
Having practiced his skills with extending his senses outwards with the use of mokuton chakra, Ichi is particularly adept at sensing life in an area. Capable of finding life through the very nature around people. Within [20 meters] Ichi is capable of passively sensing out plant and animal life in a general sense. Able to differentiate it between plant and animal, but no further. Unlike chakra sensory Ichi can not more or less readily sense others based on their chakra, but instead purely senses the 'vitality' in things, though even those with seemingly boundless vitality will read the same as the elderly or a newborn to him. Also unlike usually sensory to actively search out individuals Ichi requires Mokuton, or the use of his pipe (though using it makes his position much easier to locate), as a catalyst to extend his senses, only going out as far as the technique's range, or twice his passive range in case of the pipe. It is also notable that the deceased, and those that feign death in some fashion, as through a poison or a jutsu, are completely invisible to Ichi. Notably the furthest he can extend his senses is [100 meters].[break][break]

『Master of Festival Games』

Ichi is incredibly smart for someone his age, but he lacks the qualifications to be a scholar. This is because his intelligence is not found in understanding of principles and anything so magnificiently deep. It instead lies in his observational talents and ability to react to everything that is going on around him with an absolute calm. Being able to plan and act with just minute details to go off of, Ichi is best described as a schemer and a diplomat rather than a genius. This makes him perfect for roles that are heavy in Tactical and Diplomatic Decision Making, as he grasps larger images and can put together clues better than others. Effectively allowing him to take in the wider picture of everything going on and piece together practical responses in mere moments with little to no hesitation or error.
