If there was one thing he appreciated, it was the sound of a kunai hitting a wooden target dead in the centre. Less fun was walking over to the target, yanking it back out, and reassuming his position at the opposite end of the training area. This time, he pulled out a second kunai. He threw one in a seemingly arbitrary direction before he decidedly threw the other. There was a faint clink as they collided in the air. Then, thunk, thunk.

Again, he retrieved them. Again, he returned to the opposite end. And again, he took out an additional kunai in the never-ending effort to keep his current skills as sharp as a knife. Sharper, even. Just as before, he threw one, he threw the second, and then he threw the third. Clink, clink. Thunk, thunk, thunk. This time, however, before Ikazuchi Osoi went to retrieve them, he paused and looked at the entryway. He looked long, hard, and hopefully, before he turned to fetch his tools.

By the time he’d returned to his spot, his kunai were all put away. Deciding on the middle target, only because it was the easiest, Osoi drew a breath before he started his hand seals. The seals transitioned into a triangle formed by his fingers. Then, his charka manifested as a bolt of lightning that pulsed forth, shot towards the target, and scorched the bottom of it; just missing dead centre. That annoyed him more than it should.

Osoi was ready to shake it off and try again, but he heard something. He turned and, just as before, looked long and expectantly at the entryway. Someone was coming. Someone he’d hoped would come.
