It had been quite a while since he had embarked on a combative mission. Was it a month or perhaps two? The exact date eluded his memory, but he vividly recalled using the hard earned ryo from his C-ranked mission to treat his mother to a well deserved holiday. His mother, who had single-handedly raised him to this day, certainly deserved the respite.

Yet, the serene holiday had left him feeling somewhat sluggish and out of practice. The guild house was brimming with combative missions, but he felt it prudent to engage in some training to shake off the rust before tackling an actual mission. This was not just for his sake but also for the safety of others.

His thoughts harked back to the mock test at the academy, a simulation that recreated the conditions of real missions for students unable to participate in actual shinobi assignments at their current rank. As far as he could recall, Genin were also encouraged to take part. Without hesitation, he unfurled his paper wings and set off toward the testing grounds.

His journey to the academy was swift, bypassing the congested and labyrinthine roads below. It was also a potent reminder of the need to continually refine his paper manipulation skills. "Perhaps I should train my paper ability when I get there…" he thought. Upon arrival at the testing site, he approached the coordinator and was instructed to await a suitable partner before the test commenced. Akirei spared a moment to adjust his mask in the nearby mirror before calmly taking his seat.

"Konnichiwa!" Uka's enthusiastic greeting resonated through the room as she entered. An instructor gestured toward an empty seat beside a familiar masked boy, Akirei. "Go sit over there," the instructor directed, "and be quiet," he added, though Uka had already moved towards Akirei.

"Hey, Water Walker!" Uka's face lit up with a wide smile as she took her seat next to him.

"Please be quiet," the instructor reminded the room, attempting to regain order, "now that everyone is here, I will give a brief and then you are free to start." As soon as he finished speaking, each pair of participants was given a small map. "Your task this time is simple - A crime ring has been discovered. Your mission is to explore and investigate their activities. Put a stop to their operations and gather relevant information. Genins will lead the teams, so academy students make sure to follow their guidance. That is all. Begin when ready."

As Akirei mentally rehearsed his combat manoeuvres, he was abruptly yanked from his deep concentration by a familiar voice calling out to him. His instinctive response was to turn his head in the direction of the voice and gradually open his eyes. It was none other than Uka, the young girl he had encountered during a previous training session.

"Oh?" Akirei wanted to reciprocate the greeting, but the instructor's continuous reminders to maintain silence held him back. Instead, he offered a warm smile and a wave in response. What a coincidence, he pondered. However, he quickly realised it wasn't so far-fetched, considering he was in the academy, a place where Uka spent the majority of her time as a student.

While he had been immersed in his thoughts, a slew of students had arrived for registration, and the optimal number of participants had been reached. He received a small map and listened as the academy teacher outlined the details of the mock mission. It didn't appear particularly challenging, given his experience with numerous similar or even more demanding missions. But the requirement of him leading someone was not his strong suit.

As the briefing concluded, Akirei turned his attention to the small map to determine his assigned partner. However, instead of a name, the instructions simply stated to "look around for your partner" "Darn it." he muttered under his breath, as socialising wasn't his strong suit. Thankfully, Uka was right there. Without hesitation, he turned to her, sitting just beside him, and asked to team up. "May I?"

"Of course, Team Leader!" she replied happily. Uka looked around a bit and it seemed that most people paired up with the partners they were sitting with, she nodded a bit as if agreeing with the overall situation. "So how will we go about this?" Her eyes scanned the map that AKirei had already opened, her hands wrapped around Momo.

It wasn't anything grand, the markings and instructions on it were left to minimal, but one thing was for sure, the two of them would have to go and look around the academy grounds for some more clues, possibly, she looked closer to try and recognize the drawing on the map, "This looks like that weird statue next to the training grounds?" Uka said but with a tone of the question as she herself wasn't sure if she understood it right. It seemed that art wasn't the strong point of the instructors.

A plan formed in Uka's head of what possibly the instructors had planned for the day. Go to the statue and observe the illegal dealing, at the same time discover what exactly it was, follow the target quietly to the gang base, listen in on their "grand plan" and probably when the gang leaves the base or somehow leaves the "goods" unguarded - destroy them and in the end return back to the Academy and report it to the weird looking instructor or so it seemed to Uka from the drawing that was on the map.

Though she was pretty confident that she had the plan figured out, Uka decided to be quiet and allow Akirei to lead them, as this was a joint experience for both of them, and instructors for sure were observing them both.

Akirei nodded shyly when Uka referred to him as the team leader. She was full of spirit and enthusiasm, but he was quite the opposite, reserved and quiet. His response was typically brief. "Hmm... I have no idea. It's my first time, actually." He carefully unfolded the map like a new book. Like synchronised twins, their eyes narrowing as they focus on their respective map, searching for the next step in their mission. The drawing wasn't exactly a masterpiece, and the instructions were minimal, but they were determined to make sense out of it.

As Akirei was focusing on the drawing and contemplating their next steps, Uka voiced out and pointed out a weird spot on the map. "Hmm, that is weird…" He didn't remember there was a statue over there. Was his memory not serving him correctly? He wasn’t sure, but they would come to the conclusion that it was a sensible starting point. "I think that's the right direction." he whispered, accompanied by a tentative smile for Uka. It was clear that her energy and insights would be invaluable on this mission, something he lacked. They would need to rely on each other to succeed, and Akirei was determined to step out of his comfort zone to make it happen.

Before they proceeded, Akirei shared a few tips with Uka on the art of infiltration. Infiltration wasn't akin to combat, where strength and power were the defining factors. What mattered most was stealth and control. "There are many ways to infiltrate quietly," he began, "but for a beginner, I'd suggest concentrating chakra into your feet to lighten your steps." It was essentially a form of chakra control, something similar to walking on water or trees, though less complicated and tailored for a different purpose. Akirei on the other hand, would employ his hijutsu to hover above the ground, enabling him to move silently.

Their mission was unfolding, and the success of their endeavour relied on their ability to observe and remain undetected.

Before advancing, he dispersed a few paper pieces from his body into the air, transforming them into butterflies. As she scanned the area, her sharp eyes caught a peculiar sight—a lone box of the so-called "drug" precariously hanging on the edge of a surface.

"I think a little push might just make this whole 'drug' operation go up in smoke—or in this case, down in a spill. What do you say?" The only obstacle was the instructor who was near the box, as such a good distraction was what they needed, for their plan of pushing the box and fleeing to succeed.

Forming long spears on both hands, he utilised his remarkable speed to cut through all the packaging as he moved swiftly along the path. The plan was set in motion, and as the chaos unfolded, Akirei focused on his part, aiming to create a substantial disruption in the illicit trade.
