[Oborozuki Yuri]

Straight from the tower office where she'd accepted the mission, Yuri heads off to meet with the woman who'd posted the wanted ad in the first place. She lives not far from where she starts, only a few blocks downtown through the marketplace area - but Yuri takes the long way round, sucking down a cigarette for the walk. 

Once she's in the woman's house, she wonders why any man would be unfaithful to her - she was taller, with a pretty face and cute hair and nice eyes. Yuri watches her casually, eyes hooded, and sits where she's suggested to at a kotatsu table. "Yes, thank you," she says when asked if she'd like tea.

Finally they're seated together over their warm cups of herbal tea and the steam clears Yuri's sinuses. It feels good.

Then the woman begins sobbing.

Yuri tenses, but forces herself to relax. She's not sure what to do, so she offers rationality. "Um.. Furukawa-san. If you aren't sure yet and don't have a lotta tangible evidence, we're only working on feelings. We can uncover the truth." Despite the positive words, her voice is flat, blasé. They work enough however, and the woman gathers herself enough to explain the situation in detail. She goes over her suspicions, and gives details on where her husband ought to be at this time of day.

It's a good ten or fifteen minutes of ranting, babbling, a little more crying, and finally a defeated statement. "I can't believe I'm asking a kid to peep on my husband..."

Excusing herself from the table, tea empty from her mug and warm in her belly, Yuri begins her departure. As Furukawa-san is seeing her to the door, Yuri stops at the threshold. She offers a smile, even if it's a little crooked. "With all due respect, ma'am. You're asking a ninja to spy on your spouse."

Furukawa gives a small laugh.

Description:

The idea of certain shinobi is to be capable of finding a target and being able to stick with them. In the events of this operation, a woman has thoughts that her lover may be unfaithful. The mission is to observe the lover's actions and to report back what their actions are without detection.

[Oborozuki Yuri]

First on the agenda was scoping out the target. He should be running a stall in the market place on the north end of the bridge, settled in a townsend. Yuri has a picture of him as well as a description, so he shouldn't be too hard to miss - a tall, lumbering man with all his weight in his shoulders. Short black hair, and a scar across the left of his maw. When she had looked at the picture, Yuri had nearly cringed - he was ugly. Well, maybe someone might find him attractive; Furukawa-san did, didn't she? Regardless, Yuri noticed a stark difference in their leagues, and wondered again why someone might cheat on this woman.

It wasn't her business, technically. All she had to do was watch the guy.

Only sixteen minutes into scanning the marketplace, she catches him - the alleged Kunio-san. He is running a simple stall, offering dried meats and cured vegetables and some warm dishes for the pallet. Yuri hangs back a safe couple yards, but keeps an eye on him as she moves through the crowd. She acts as a simple shopper, moseying up and down stalls as if searching for something that catches the eye.

Something does catch her nose however, so she strolls to a stop at a stall selling items of the sweeter variety. Even as she orders a dorayaki bun and a dango stick, her peripheral is on Kunio-san. So far he is operating as a normal vendor, smiling at everyone who orders and shouting jovially across the busy street to try and recruit hungry customers. He seems uninteresting, and to be honest, boring. But Yuri is not deterred.

[Oborozuki Yuri]

It's not long before the sun begins to set and Yuri's been sitting on a slanted roof overlooking the bustling bazaar for some time now. The cleaned off dango stick is clinched between the front teeth as she'd been using it like a toothpick since she'd finished it two hours ago. She's sitting with her ankle crossed over her thigh, one arm propping her head up so she can survey comfortably. Some vendors have wrapped up, making room for new sellers - but Kunio-san stayed until the stars began to twinkle brightly overhead. She perks up, blinking as he begins closing up, packing away his leftover goods before hauling off.

As casually as she can, waiting a few minutes before following, Yuri tracks the target and tails Kunio-san all the way back to the home she'd already been to.

Well, there was nothing odd about that, was there?

Crouched in the trees across the street from their abode, hiding in the orange and red leaves and brambled branches, Yuri considers bailing. It's nearly one in the morning, Furukawa-san was surely asleep and Kunio-san would obviously slide into bed and-

No lights turn on, and there are no sounds. The stillness is eerie. Yuri can taste her heart, eyelashes fluttering as she waits for anything.

The front door opens, and Kunio-san slips out into the dark unencumbered. Yuri squints in the dark, her brown eyes looking like pools of dark chocolate in the lowlight. She watches intently as he disappears into the night.

She is not far behind.

[Oborozuki Yuri]

He takes a different path into a different part of Taki, wandering for at least twenty minutes in the dark with nothing but the moonlight to guide him. Yuri is afraid that in the stillness of the night he might spot her, so she is as far back as she can be, sticking to the shadows and taking routes off the same path, all the while keeping as silent as she can. He seems not to notice her, but he does seem a little paranoid; his gait is quick and darting, and his head turns to and fro the whole way. Is he scared of the dark, or afraid of being caught?

They come to a cozy residential area, and it becomes a bit easier to hide. Silently, she takes to the rooftops, able to hang back a greater distance without losing sight of him.

Yuri's eyebrows are quirked and her jaw is set; she's irritated with the lumbering man, and is worried Furukawa-san's suspicions may have been correct. Even her suspicions seemed to be confirmed - because now he was stopping at a house at the end of a cul de sac, looking sheepish as he slips into the house without knocking. Even that was intimate, Yuri thought.

Determined to wait until he returned, Yuri sets up on a roof three houses diagonal to the one on the end of the cul de sac earthy street. Surveying the house, she notes its size in comparison to the others on the street - it was sizable, and those who could afford it kept it neat and tidy. All the curtain were drawn, but Yuri supposed that was typical for the time of night.

The young genin has enough time to smoke twice under the moonlight, and she counts the minutes as they go by. It's not until three in the morning that the front door opens again, and Yuri does not stir, does not move. Nothing to draw attention as she watches intently. Out come two men; Kunio-san, and a man a whole foot shorter than the lumbering fool. Yuri's eyes flutter. They both look kempt, not super displaced, and from here Yuri can't tell what they're talking about in front of the open door.

[Oborozuki Yuri]

The two men exchange a brief conversation, one that Yuri cannot hear, and finally the shorter man pats Kunio-san on the back, and he's on his way. His strut is just a touch more relaxed now, but Yuri can't tell anything suspicious about him - did anything happen? What was the nature of their meeting? Surely it had to be scandalous, right? Given the context, there was no justifying this.

Just to be sure he's not up to any other business, Yuri tracks him all the way back home. It's nearly half past three in the morning by the time he arrives home and crawls in through the front door, all without Furukawa-san's knowledge.

Come the next day, after she was sure Kunio-san had left for work in the afternoon, Yuri came to the abode she'd been surveying only nine hours ago. One haphazard look over each shoulder to be sure she's not being followed herself, the teen knocks gently upon the front door - it's not long before it eases open, and the lovely Furukawa-san is ushering her inside and offering a place at the same kotatsu table.

It's warm on Yuri's legs as she sticks them folded beneath the blanket, sipping at her tea as Furukawa-san settles.

"So," she starts, sounding almost desperate. "Tell me everything." She shakes her head, her hands, sighs. "Who am I kidding, it's only been a day?"

"Well, actually..." Yuri launches quickly into details on the previous night. She tells Furukawa-san about how he had come home to drop off his belongings, how he'd gone to a nearby residential, the house he chose- Furukawa slaps the tabletop with both hands before she threatens to cry again, tears welling up in her big glittery eyes. "Oh, I knew it! That's Ayuko, no doubt about it! His boss' wife. Ohh, I'm such a fool-"

Yuri cuts her off with a confused face. "Um. Well. He was with a man afterward..."

"What?"

"Couple hours later, he came out with a shorter guy."

"Nobudate? His boss...?" Furukawa shares Yuri's puzzled expression, and the two sit in thoughtful silence together for a moment.

Finally, Yuri pipes up with a bold, honest, if not sheepish question. "Could Kunio-san be seeing a man?"

Furukawa blushes deeply, but laughs as if the thought is absurd. "Surely not! They must be conducting, er, business! Something illegitimate, and possibly illegal... this means there's no infidelity happening!" Yuri is not convinced, but she says nothing. Furukawa-san continues egregiously. "Go again tonight- every night, until he goes to visit Nobudate-san again. This time, I want you to try and get a look inside."

[Oborozuki Yuri]

So Yuri sets out on her continued mission, though she secretly hoped that might have been the end of it. She had no interest in spying on these individuals, if not only because she was worried about what she might see, but she knew the mission had nothing to do with what was within her interest. Furukawa-san also seemed particularly distressed, and Yuri didn't want to let a pretty woman crumple at the feet of some random dude. It was sad, if nothing else.

Following Furukawa's husband the next day results in nothing. He comes home and goes to sleep, and returns to work the next day. Yuri reports this, but Furukawa-san is not at all satisfied. "Tail him until he visits Nobudate again."

Frustrated, Yuri follows Kunio-san for another day, only for him to once again return home with no red upon his hands. Did he know he was being followed? Had he spotted Yuri from afar, noticed her recurring face in the crowd, and grown suspicious? She watches the house from the dark for a long time, but once again he does not leave unbidden. The genin supposed that was no indication of innocence though, because he had done something or someone? the first night she'd begun tailing him.

The next and fourth day of tailing him to no avail, Yuri takes a different approach. If he did know she was onto him, if he was potentially aware that Furukawa-san had sicked a ninja on him to assuage her suspicions, there was no way he'd risk another visit whenever Yuri showed her face. So for the fourth day, before she sets out in the morning to meet him in the marketplace, Yuri casts a transformation technique to take on the disguise of no one in particular. Now she is taller, wearing the face of a man with a beard, and can smoke in public without getting the side eye from the adults. Now she could watch a little more up close, though she stills keeps it cool and calculated, even wearing the face of some random man.

DESCRIPTION:

After performing the necessary hand seals, the user transforms their appearance to become that of another person, animal or even an inanimate object. This is considered one of the most advanced academy techniques, as it requires a constant emission of chakra as well as constant mental focus to maintain the transformation. Shinobi are limited to transforming into objects roughly their own size, preventing them from turning into a fly while being able to carry items far greater than their transformed state.

Whether by coincidence or because he hadn't seen Yuri's head in the sea of people swarming the marketplace, Kunio-san does take a detour tonight in the same fashion he had the first night. Yuri, still in the guise of a man, follows him to the home he shares with Furukawa-san. Hidden in the shadows, donning all black for her disguise from curly raven locks and beard to a black swearshirt and harem pants, Yuri is practically spotless in the night as she waits.

Relieved, then feeling guilty for feeling relieved, Yuri watches Kunio-san dip out into the night unencumbered without having awakened his wife. He was free to venture forward, but he stops and gives a paranoid sweep of the area. Yuri watches with her heart in her throat as he looks one way, then another, then in her direction - she stays absolutely still, choking on her breath as he stares into the darkness. She can see his eyes trace the shadows. Still. Spotless.

Seemingly satisfied, though still with a bit of trepidation in his step, Kunio-san begins his journey with wringing hands. Startled, afraid she'd been seen, Yuri hangs back for just a moment longer than she ought to. Not wanting to lose him, Yuri moves out. Luckily she remembers exactly where he'd gone last time, and which house he'd sneak into, so there was no chance of truly losing him - but she felt better with one eye on him at all times.

So she tracks him from first the woods, then the rooftops of that same residential.

Just as she'd expected, she catches the tail-end of him slipping unannounced into the same, lavish house at the end of the cul de sac. This time, she does not stay three houses down and she does not smoke. This time, she gives it only twenty minutes before she's moving in, heart thrumming against its cage and blood roaring in her ears. Adrenaline pumps through her, lighting a fire in her fingertips.

[Oborozuki Yuri]

All things considered, she had to be sneaky. Casing the house, she walks the perimeter, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious in her way around. Next, she crouches against the walls and slides once more around the house, this time looking into each window. In total, there are nine windows - two on the front on either side of the front door. Yuri creeps onto the porch, but cannot see into either one; alternatively, the doorknob does not give when she turns it. Locked.

Three more windows on the north side; each one covered by blinds, not a crack to peer through. Trying each of them quietly, Yuri does not find one unlocked.

On the south side, there are two windows; one is sealed and blinded off, closest to the front of the house so Yuri assumes it to be the living room. The second window is locked, but not blinded - she can see into a dark room. It looked to be a bedroom, but was currently going unused. That was a good sign, wasn't it? - but Yuri did not see any sign of a man or a woman, so they were undoubtedly all within the living room.

Yuri blushes at the implication, but continues.

On the east side there is one window, though that one is also sealed and blinded off.

Damn.

The last window is a small one, barely big enough to fit a child, and looks into the basement beneath the rest of the house. Yuri gives it a soft push.

It slides open.

[Oborozuki Yuri]

Heart in her throat, Yuri looks both ways before disengaging the transformation jutsu so that she can actually fit into the small window. Though it looks a bit petite, Yuri is able to squeeze in without minimal bone shifting. She can't see into the basement, so searches first with a foot; nothing. She drops down into the darkness, lands softly, and looks back up to the window. Getting in was easy - how was she going to crawl back out?

No matter.

Looking around, allowing her eyes to adjust, Yuri strains to listen. Narrow brown eyes look black in the lowlight and she sweeps them along as she feels her way through the darkness. In the far corner of the room, through various storage boxes and strewn items here and there, a path cuts toward a staircase. Yuri embarks that way and crouches at the foot of the stairs, listening intently still with a hand on the guard rail.

Pleasedon'tsqueakpleasedon'tsqueak, Yuri is sweating as she brings her foot up to the first step, the second, the third. Ascending slowly, carefully, the genin creeps up to the closed door. Pressing an ear to it, she wished she had some sort of sensory ability. How do sensors do it? With their chakra? She closes her eyes, concentrating hard, and tries to mold her chakra outward.

She feels nothing.

Bah.

Testing the doorknob, she finds that it is unlocked. Even with her ear pressed against the wood, she hears nothing. Not even a murmur. She eases the door open ajar, sticks her nose out, and hears the faintest of voices. Close, but not in the immediate room. Yuri swallows thickly, slips into the room and closes the door without letting it click shut. Holyshitholyshitholyshit.
