BASIC INFORMATION

NAME: Ōgonshoku Mugen
AGE: Thirty-Two
GENDER: Male
BIRTHDAY: June 17, 991
COUNTRY: Kirigakure
CLAN: Hōzuki
RANK: Jōnin
POSITION: War Council
OTHER ALIAS:
  • Hayagake no Mugen [Fleet-Foot Mugen] (Village) | A moniker forwarded to Mugen for his blinding speed and agility.
  • Maboroshi no Kami [God of Illusions] (World) | During the days of the Kirigakure Civil War, there were few men who so dominated their generation as to rise to the status of figurative divinity. Mugen was one such man: so destructive and formidable, his genjutsu were so infamous that men were given orders to run at the very sight of him, lest he cause them to tear one another apart with the mere lifting of his fingers. He is a titan in the art of genjutsu, and his name is spoken as an insurmountable bar by those fanatics of the art.

APPEARANCE

HEIGHT: 6’3" (190.5 cm)
WEIGHT: 184 lbs (83.46 kg)
DESCRIPTION
Mugen is very tall with a slender, nimble build. Extremely refined. Smooth. Immaculate. These words are the first to come to mind when laying eyes upon Mugen. Beautiful, and seemingly painted brown skin remaining without the scars of blades or burns from the licks of the tongues of flame and scorching metal. Lean, well packed, muscle defines the bronze skin of Mugen. Tried and tested in strength from the endless pounding of fists and against swords in the countless hours spent in a conflict and the heat of battle. Honed from the cloudless days and stark nights spent in the trenches refining the worked muscles with the reflexes of a battle-hardened warrior. A body knowing trial and error, Mugen's physical appearance is a striking one indeed. With spiky brown hair tossed into an unkempt appearance, held that way by none other than the blessing of the gods, only to be complimented by unequally beautiful eyes, golden in color, that appear so fierce that anything they fall upon is not guaranteed the safety of not spontaneously setting ablaze. His eyes are blessed with a an eery glow, seeming to even exude light when he gets riled up or excited in some way. Mugen has big yet beady eyes and thick eyebrows as well thin lips and a sharp nose. He has a narrow jaw-line and a beauty mark under the left eye.

Mugen’s attire is always regal, expensive and elegant in appearance. While his clothing is usually standardized Black flax, cross-knitted linen, which helps Mugen keep dry in the moist and humid environment of Kirigakure, his wardrobe is always particularly spectacular because Mugen always dons golden armor above it. His shirt are usually skin-tight, yet breathable and his hakama usually are baggy, able to move with the wind. His garments of linen are valued for their exceptional coolness and freshness in hot and humid weather. Over these, Mugen dons a golden girdle which sits upon his waist and has two fairly large, golden hip protectors attached, both stylized with ornamental curves and shapes, all made of gold. He also wears golden gauntlets which extend up to his elbow and are stylized with a sapphire on the front of Mugen's hands and decorated with royal blue designs through the gauntlets. This golden armor also exhibits bracers on Mugen’s torso and upper arm, as well as a golden necklace with an gold Ankh upon it. Sometimes Mugen goes shirtless but usually in these times he dons a white cloak which he usually wears a sapphire necklace with.

PERSONALITY

NINDO:"Everything is Meaningless, so create your own meaning !"

Mugen is known for his cunning wit and sarcastically polite demeanor. He is generally calm and levelheaded, even in the face of danger. He has grown extremely jaded and distasteful towards the world as a whole. His job has left him with less hope for the human race than most can fathom.  On a regular basis, he faces supernatural beings, shinobi and creatures, but hardly seems affected even any of it. Thought extremely aloof, he’s certainly not devoid of emotions; he simply appears to have incredible control over them. And yet he finds an uncanny fascination with other’s. He tends to stare at people, often looking disinterested. He even answers questions extremely shortly, though when questioned about something interesting he is more than willing to hold a proper conversation. He can actually be quite personable, especially around women. But when inquiring about a situation which may have been caused by a bounty, Mugen is incredibly straightforward and blunt, not willing to beat around the bush to pry information out of someone to learn the truth about serious matters.

Even in his seriousness, Mugen has a rather interesting sense of humor. Usually when he meets women, he starts whispering things to them which make them  squeal and laugh or slap him. He also enjoys teasing people. His humor sometimes comes across as snide, particularly when addressing other men. He also irritates others purposely when he’s bored. Despite his meddling weirdness, Mugen is incredibly intelligent and analytic. His knowledge about the world around him is incredibly vast. He can use his vast understanding to create advantageous situations, in most cases, for himself. It is his trade, after all. He is a firm believer that knowledge cannot cure everything but may aid in alleviating problems. But he also believes that there is a weakness to everything and a way out of every situation.

Mugen also has a deep passion for human emotion. Everything humans fight for is born of strong human emotions, and he must understand the emotions which created these situations to overcome them. He encounters a lot of cruelty in his adventures, including imprisonment, abuse, and sacrifice. Despite what he encounters, he always keeps a level head and thinks his way through the situation. He believes that no one should be controlled by another. He also believes in accepting oneself and not losing the self to others abuse and desires. Despite his outlook on self reliance, Mugen is also understanding of the fact that he’s a warrior and therefore subject to the powers at be. He simply believes that choice is important and that one should create situations for themselves even within the confounds of position.

Mugen is a deceptively cunning and serious side when the situation warrants it. He commonly uses idle conversation and outward concern to distract his opponents. He is an extremely pragmatic combatant, believing that using any means necessary in a life-and-death battle is essential in victory and survival. He was also very committed to his studies and regular practice. Overall, Mugen is objective in thought and motive. Despite the past, he garners no ill-will or personal hatred for anyone.

HISTORY

There wasn't anything spectacular about his birth. Born into a war-torn ninja world. The bards didn't stream through the streets singing his coming. The villagers didn't pause from their miserable day to wish the newborn child a welcome into the garbage they mistook for a lively world. There was no family to surround him with cordial smiles or warm hugs. Hell, even his mother didn't take much time from her forsaken life to give birth to him on the cobbled streets of Kirigakure. She did the duty nature had cursed her with before continue along her drug addled path, no doubt looking for the closest thing to a fix that could be supplied as a substitute for whatever had initially ailed her. So, with that Mugen was born. Abandoned by the joys of life from the day he was made to crawl upon this god-forsaken earth. It seemed only fitting that the constant shade of the mist which never ceased in Kirigakure was there to wet his brow. Did the sky cry for what passed beneath its gaze, or were its fogged tears a simple mockery for life itself?

His life would have ended on that very same day had it not been for the stumbling of a drunkard who found the child helpless and crying. The drunkard took the boy to a nearby orphanage. An usual thing in a place torn apart by war. He boy was taken in and housed, not knowing mother or father. He wasn’t even given a family name. They simply called him Mugen because he never stopped crying. His cries were infinite.

Although Mugen was without a family, his basic needs were cared for by the village. As the child grew, he was educated in the streets and spent most of his early childhood doing favors for others, or just simply reading scrolls from the library, learning as much as he could, for that was almost all he could do. This was around the time Mugen had heard of the rumors concerning him. The other children of the village were not openly willing to accept Mugen among them. He was thought to be a demon child, because of his dark skin and strangely color eyes. It was as through Mugen was cursed, for many people see orphans as being different, as though unnatural. However, while Mugen was an orphan, he had been permitted to enter the Kirigakure Ninja Academy at the age of seven. He had always been a smart kid, but the desk filled environment of the academy did not suit him well, and so his true intelligence was never truly shown except for on paper, since he still scored incredibly high on the tests that were administered to him. While there was some concern about Mugen being allowed to become a shinobi. A concern that was merely whispered in silence to raise the potential danger that could result from it, regardless Mugen passed his exams with flying colors, showing great altitude in technique and knowledge, becoming a Genin of Kiri at the age of ten. He showed great promise and ingenuity. He was placed on Team 2 and this time and made his first true friends.

When he initially graduated, the boy jumped on every possible opportunity for a mission that he could accept. At this point many of the odd jobs revolved around helping civilians, fixing civil problems, repairing damage or creating internal wins from the ongoing skirmish going on outside of the Kiri’s border, and so he often dragged his teammates into these low-ranking missions regardless of their interest. It was already around this time that he began focusing on Genjutsu, accepting the art as his own and assuming a new hope in the future. His burning desire to not just work, but to do his best, allowed him to become a more bonded shinobi with the people around the village, as well as excel in the pursuits of his studies.

So Mugen’s skills grew as he continued to study and gain a repoire in the village, wanting more than the boring low level missions he was given. Having studied history, not just of his skill set or his village but of the world, he gained a broader appreciation of what was important. Learning so much enabled him to understand how events of the past came to happen and, when he applied that same understanding into the future, he became concerned for where things were going. He began to look a broader look at things around him. He went on to honing his intelligence and Genjutsu skills to even higher levels, having so much free time since the village wouldn’t send his team out on any higher ranked missions. Nearly five years after the achievement of Genin, Mugen had become adept in genjutsu to the extent his missions went by quite easily, yet his sensei didn't recommend him for the Chūnin Exams. After turning fifteen, Team 2's genin had distinguished themselves the most during this year, they were finally tasked with a greater opportunity: guarding a convoy which took supplies to a support group in the militarized area of the Lands. During the mission, the convoy was attacked by a mercenary wearing all gold, who killed Mugen’s teammates before his eyes, resulting in him retaliating and almost being killed, himself. His sensei saved him and the shipment before the mercenary retreated and the two were forced to continue the mission, leaving his friends’ bodies to be destroyed and disposed of. In the ever depressing mist, the mercenary return in the cover of night to try to stop the shipment while the convoy rest, little did he know that he was trapped in a Genjutsu and slash in his jugular before he had taken any steps into the camp site. Mugen had single-handedly protected the convoy with no knowledge of any of his superior, until they awoke the next morning seeing Mugen donning the golden entrapments on the now-deceased man. Mugen, at this point, gave himself the surname "Ōgonshoku”, which means 'Golden'.

It was at this time that Mugen almost lost his faith, it was the variable mix of emotions he’d taken in being promoted to Chūnin for his prominence and effectiveness on the battlefield during the Chunin Exam which he had to achieve by himself as his teammates were died, being that his sensei finally recommended him for the Exams after his showings in their last mission, as well then hearing the news that the Third Mizukage was assassinated during "peace talks” with the Daimyo. He became a Chūnin at the age of twenty. Now a full-scale war would ensue against shinobi who sided with the village and those who sided with the Daiymō. This wasn’t a good time for Mugen, being a lone Chūnin with no squadron. But he was sent into the battle anyway.

In the midst of the ensuing war, more bloody and deadly than anything he’s ever seen, Mugen made a true name for himself, mastering genjutsu and honing his skills on the ceaseless corses of his enemies. He was soon promoted to field commander, an extremely notable position for a new Chūnin and became feared for the strange powers his training garnered him, as well as his masterful genjutsu. In this three year period, Mugen saw more death than most shinobi see in their lifetimes but it did solidify his skills and his position as a Kiri shinobi. He fought alongside Yuki Nanami in many battles, pulling up the rear of her squadron with his own. He was also acquainted to Ishikawa Shin around this time, his squadron engaging in many battles alongside Shin’s own. Amidst the chaos, Mugen and Shin found that they had similar senses of humor, becoming fast friends, even during war times. The most prominent of their battles was the Sack of the Daimyō’s palace and his eventual dispatching, which he and Shin both participated in. Mugen was therefore honored for his skill and altitude on the battlefield by being granted the position of Jōnin, which he shrugged off, not really seeing the difference since he’d pulled so much weigh in the last few years. He was also forwarded a Hunter-Nin position to round up and kill all the defecting stranglers who sided with the now dead Daimyo. Before much hunting could be accomplished though, Mugen was called back to Kirigakure to aid in the Attack of the Sanbi, after the beast’s host died and the creature released itself, going on a rampage. Coming to aid his fellow shinobi, Mugen could only do so much against a beast of such power. He and his friend, Ishikawa Shin, somehow found themselves working together again, amidst the chaos. During this incident, Shin’s arm was broken and unable to apply much pressure with his Genjutsu, Mugen aided his ally, forcing a medical shinobi to come and healed Shin, who refused to stop fighting, before focusing on getting injured comrades and civilians out of the blast zone of the creature. The beast was eventually brought down. It was an experience which humbled Mugen to a degree, seeing the potential of such a creature with so much chakra.

He was given liberty to return to the hunt, after the whole Sanbi incident was handled. As a Hunter, Mugen had free range to roam the world and discover new mysteries, usually only going back to the village to receive new assignments. In his short times at home, he only ever have drinks at the bar with Shin & sneak off into night with any woman who would allow him to bed them, needless to say, the number was numerous. In his times away, he was given the freedom to hone his skills in genjutsu, as well as defending himself from various shinobi around the world. He came to be known as the God of Illusions and gain notable power from his studies, as well as melding the abilities granted by physical skills to his own genjutsu, creating a devastating effects, which the newly appointed Mizukage, who happened to be his friend, Shin, deemed worthy. It was also around this time that Mugen began to become interested in gaining more abilities through the use of synthesized drugs, which he began purchasing off the Black Market, imbuing his body with newfound traits and amplifying Mugen’s already impressive speed. With a state of normalcy finally returning in Kirigakure, Mugen was ordered to return to the village for an important decision, being forwarded a spot as the Mizukage’s assistant, refusing it and rather looking towards a position as war council. Mugen accepted the War Council position under the agreement that he’d be allowed to finish up things aboard. It’s been month since that faithful day and now Mugen is ready to don his new position.

FIGHTING STYLE

Mugen style is initially non-lethal. He usually begins a fight by placing an opponent in a subtle Genjutsu to scale their awareness and analyze their fighting style. He prefers to initialize combat in a manner of hesitation, almost always intent on giving his opponent the chance to surrender. He always begins a fight by placing his opponent under an illusion usually masking it by sparring, using his weapon or shurikenjutsu. If that fails, or if the situation is one in which diplomacy would never work, he then attempts to end his fights as quickly as possible, placing them into more complex and traumatic illusions, crippling his opponent until they can barely move, or either taking their lives altogether, hitting them over the head or slashing their necks while they are distracted by Genjutsu. He can rarely restrain his boredom in most fights. As a true nihilist, he never truly cares how a fight will end. The tired weariness of his soul during a battle is interpreted to some as arrogance. In terms of range, he doesn't really favor any given distance over another, from the standpoint of ability, possessing all of the competence necessary to make war at any distance, to some significant degree. However, he favors distance for trivial reasons, as a test to see if he can complete his fights without ever moving from the spot where the fight began, and distance happens to be his default position, from the days when distance was a necessity.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

[Uncanny Agility] - Mugen’s most consistent physical display is his agility & reaction time. He a very agile fighter. He possesses great reflexes, dodging a strike with no wasted effort, able to immediately counterattack. He can strike quickly, without warning, and in rapid succession. His quick movements allow him to dodge otherwise fatal strikes. In battle, he can effectively use the battlefield to his advantage, flipping and jumping from wall to wall or platform to platform to keep his opponents unsure of his attack patterns. Offensively, his agility grants him great balance in battle, attacking his opponent from various angles with great accuracy and force. This tremendous agility is the reason why he is known as Fleet-Foot Mugen.

[Bojutsu] - While not as well-apt as a specialist, Mugen is skilled in the school of bojutsu. He is extremely skilled with his curve-ended bo staff, which is his primary weapon during battle. He is comfortable enough with his staff that he is able to use it to spar with opponents wielding swords and block precisely thrown kunai and senbon with high effectiveness. He possesses powerful strikes with equally impressive speed behind them. He can perform attacks with perfect precision and stop them in an instant with staff. His usual methods in battle are striking from various angles to confuse and catch his opponents off-guard for sneak attacks, never lowering the pressure on his opposition.

[Chakra Control] - Mugen exhibits a masterful level of chakra control, able to use multiple advanced techniques, in rapid succession without giving in to overusage of chakra. While his chakra pool is average for his rank, his exact use of his chakra is such that it allows him to perform a jutsu with maximum efficiency without wasting any chakra in his effort. Due to this, he is well-suited for genjutsu. He can continue in rigorous battle for hours upon hours because of his acute chakra control.

[Genjutsu God] - Mugen, renowned for his Illusions, is by far one of the greatest users of the art in Kirigakure. He focuses more so on the quality of the art, recognizing that genjutsu is at its best when either it is distracting the opponent. For this reason, he has developed an important skill in the area. It exploits the hidden potential of the illusionary arts to make the mind into its own worse enemy: After deep studying of mental conditions, psychedelics, and the "Demonic Illusion" family of techniques, in particular, Mugen has learned how to perform all of his Genjutsu in a such a way that the mind of the target produces all of the details, according to its own experience, knowledge, and imagination; making each of his Genjutsu as strikingly realistic to the next person as to the previous person. In this realism, most opponents don’t realize that a Genjutsu has been cast, being that Mugen usually performs his moves subtly. The detail in which his Genjutsu are constructed manipulate the sense in such a way that even the most battle-hardened, observant shinobi have a hard time spotting them.

[Intelligence] - Arguably, the most fearsome trait of Mugen is his tremendous intellect. He is well-versed in the history, strategy, and tactics of the Ninja World, and is privy to knowledge unknown to many simply because they don’t research it. Years of studying books, scrolls and people have left Mugen with a sharp mind and a wealth of knowledge. His studies have spawned a shinobi that is extremely intelligent and quick-thinking in terms of dangerous situations and problems. However, his studies don’t seem to stop simply in terms of his own occupation but in many fields of study. He is solemn and observant; he thinks very quickly and remains calm in a fight, enabling him to respond with maximum efficiency and with the smallest likelihood of misjudging circumstances. His studies give him remarkable foresight and a cost-benefiting understanding on par with many much older than himself.

First, I will have to ask you to change the surname to a more Japanese one. I saw in your history that your surname "Huángjīnjiā” means golden armor, in Japanese it would be Kogane no Yoroi. You could try combining it or shortening to create something that you like, but means the same, just in Japanese.

Age:
He should be 32 this year (5 age ups). Add the year he was born in, 991.

Appearance:
Please add height and weight in cm/kg respectively. Does he wear the Kirigakure headband? Where?

Personality:
I will have to ask you to change this line: "Usually when he meets women, he starts whispering things to them which make them squeal and laugh or slap him.” Because to some members, it might come off as some sort of harassment. You could change it to something like: "He likes ladies.”

History:
My comment in the beginning stands, please change the name to sound Japanese. And instead of saying that he gave himself the surname, you can say he gave himself the nickname. Because Mizu no Kuni has a government, it would be weird for people to just make up their surnames.

Please change this sentence: "As a Hunter, Mugen had free range to roam the world and discover new mysteries, usually only going back to the village to receive new assignments.” As a Jounin ranked Hunter-nin, you would not be permitted to just free roam. Of course for a reason you could go somewhere, but you have a job as a Hunter-nin, as such after every assignment you should be back home to wait and receive a new one and not free-roam.

I will have to ask you to at least write something about the five years that have passed.

Fighting Style:
Please add things that Mugen is bad at, situation/s that might be his disadvantage, or any other weakness related to him in combat.

Chakra Affinities:
Jounins now can start with 3. You may add two more.

Special Abilities:
Uncanny Agility
Please remove the underlying parts/sentences: "He possesses great reflexes, dodging a strike with no wasted effort, able to immediately counterattack. He can strike quickly, without warning, and in rapid succession. Offensively, his agility grants him great balance in battle, attacking his opponent from various angles with great accuracy and force.” They have nothing to do with the agility SA.

Bojutsu - "He possesses powerful strikes with equally impressive speed behind them. He can perform attacks with perfect precision and stop them in an instant with staff. His usual methods in battle are striking from various angles to confuse and catch his opponents off-guard for sneak attacks, never lowering the pressure on his opposition.” Please remove all this, as there are many other SAs and fluff mixed in here.

Chakra Control - Please remove this: "He can continue in rigorous battle for hours upon hours because of his acute chakra control.”

Genjutsu God - Nothing to fix here. But I would recommend swapping this SA for Layered Genjutsu SA or Lingering Genjutsu SA. The current SA is very generic and doesn't give you any advantage whatsoever.

Intelligence - Please remove underlying parts/sentences: "He is solemn and observant; he thinks very quickly and remains calm in a fight, enabling him to respond with maximum efficiency and with the smallest likelihood of misjudging circumstances. His studies give him remarkable foresight and a cost-benefiting understanding on par with many much older than himself.”

Techniques:
Please fix the links on the 1/2/3/4 so they match the new jutsu indexes.

Locker Combo:
Adjust accordingly to changes made.
