Of all the activities Naoya despised in the classroom, few were as loathsome as group work. Whether his peers meant to or not, the young boy always ended up doing the lion's share of the work. It was a communication issue more often than not, but another problem was how much he disliked classwork in general.

At least he wasn't likely to get paired up with one of the more insufferable students; he'd made a point of sitting as far away from certain people as possible. But that all changed when the instructor called his name followed by one Tenka Yujukumono. Naoya instantly recognized the name.

He'd been warned about this kid. Supposedly, they were a nasty little liar. And, in the same breath as calling most of the academy students annoying little assholes, this Yuju kid had been singled out in particular. In a way, that made them the most annoying and littlest asshole. And that wasn't far off.

As Naoya approached the kid's desk he saw that he was noticeably shorter, and probably not even ten years old yet. The shit-eating grin plastered on the twerp's face was a bad omen as well. Naoya took a seat in the same row as Yuju as the instructor passed out their assignments. He offered the strange kid a nod and reached to grab the paper he would be responsible for, placing his palm on top of it and sliding it in front of himself, and scrawled his name at the top in a neat miniscule font.

After a quick scan, it seemed to be pretty basic review of hand seals, asking the pair to work to explain what the seals meant and what kind of techniques they were commonly associated with. They'd have to present at the end as well which was a hilarious if not terrifying prospect.

Once Naoya was done reading the page, he looked up at Yuju expectantly. Somewhere deep within his half-lidded irritated gaze, there was a profound, and arguably unwarranted, malice. A tension between the duo so thick you could cut it with a knife hung in the air, and anyone would struggle to miss it; Yuju most of all.

Yuju loved group work! He got to meet new people, talk a lot in a setting where people had to listen to him, and at the end of the day he didn't have to do any work and still got credit for it! It was awesome, and in his opinion every assignment should be group assignments. But while that might remain a dream for now, the reality of this group assignment was still more than enough to keep the cap wearing boy happy. YES! The boy didn't even try to hold his outburst of excitement when his partners name and his own were called, earning himself a short glare from their sensei before they moved on. But Yuju didn't care, he had never met this person before, his new partner. And that meant things were going to be a lot more fun~

He'd grin at his new partner, confident and pleased with the situation, though the smile wouldn't be returned. In fact, to those watching on the outside, it was like two opposites working together. Yuju was dressed very light for the winter, the only real difference being his striped shirt now being long sleeved instead of short sleeved. But he still wore capris, and of course his trademark cap, with seemingly no interest in dressing much heavier than this. And his light blue eyes would sparkle, the light reflecting them just right. But the largest differences would them themselves, this dark haired boy older and perturbed about something. Hiya, oni-san~ Yuju, for his part, didn't really care that much why he was upset, nor did he assume it had anything to do with him. After all, they'd never met beyond the classroom before this, he'd never even known this green eyed sad boys name until now.

And Yuju also had no real interest in making him feel better about whatever was upsetting him, only grinning wider when he pre-emptively grabbed the paper without any prodding from the young student. So efficient~ You're really cool, oni-san~ He was having fun, more or less saying whatever was coming to mind, not even bothering to look at their assignment. But what he did see was the way his new partner was looking at him, the disgust turning palpable that even he could see it. An ill-disguised hatred. And Yuju's demeanor would change a bit, his outgoingness turning a bit more smug, his grin almost seeming taunting now. Something wrong....Oni-san?
