After the Raikage’s speech, a massive man of the Fujiyama clan would step forward to take over the nitty-gritty of moving the days’ events along: some of the genin from group C would recognize him as the "trapped” man who had lain in the road beneath his toppled cart the day prior. When the previous fight concluded, he cleared his throat to announce the eleventh of the day's fights. "Next up! Hiesen Mairusu of Konohagakure! Versus! Fresh from running with the wolves, it's Kumogakure's own Ikonokoru Yamatsu!” Yamatsu had exchanged his scroll for a single ration pill, which had been privately given to him for him to tuck away and use as he saw fit. There were two vivid yellow stripes painted onto the hard-packed dirt ground of the arena about twenty meters apart: designated starting zones for each of the genin to stand on. They would be instructed to bow, and then the countdown for the round to start would begin. "Three… …two… …one… Begin!” HIESEN MAIRUSU VS. IKONOKORU YAMATSU

Yamatsu made his way into the area as he was introduced. He was trying to stay focused though his nerves had him trembling a little. Looking around at the crowd gathered the young man took a deep breath. He could not see Risi but knew he was up there cheering his loudest for him. He was not sure if he was still in the same section they had sat in while Raika fought or had moved to get a closer view when Yamatsu left to get ready. He bowed showing respect to his opponent his half wished he was close enough to shake his hand but knew distance would be better. "Good luck, may the best genin win." His voice was sincere if not a little shaky. As the proctor yelled to begin Yamatsu brought his thumbs to his lips. His teeth broke skin drawing blood before he slammed both hands onto the ground. "Kuchiyose no Jutsu!" Two clouds of smoke appeared next to him before two wolves burts from the clouds. Yamatsu had been waiting to summon his brother and sister for this moment. The first round would have been perfect as well but he was not sure what other challenges lay ahead and wanted his siblings rested and well. "Oki, Ino pack formation A!" With his brother and sister by his side Yamatsu's confidence began to grow. His mentality slowly shifting from scared pup in a world he did not remember to the "Hunter" he was in the wilds. The slightly larger wolf standing just over three feet ran to the right as it's slightly smaller sibling ran left. The formation was simple, try and surround their prey and take them down. It was as simple as hunting, encircle and attack. As the wolves moved to their flanking positions Yamatsu made three quick hand seals. He had used this technique twice already for these exams but now Risi was here to see it in person. "Fire Style: Screaming Murder" As the final seal was woven multiple crows made of flames appeared around him before heading towards his opponent. This was his role, just like when he lived with the pack, weaken or distract the target as the wolves took them down. Simply drawing blood and releasing a mass of chakra from one's extended hand is capable of calling an animal or otherwise to one's location. As a Space-Time Ninjutsu, this technique is capable of instantly displacing an intended summon from wherever they may be to the requested location, though there are obstacles that can prevent this. To use this jutsu, one must first make a contract with whatever they are summoning, living creature or not. Both the size and the stamina of what a shinobi calls upon increases the demand of chakra they must spend to perform the jutsu. NAME: Katon: Zekkyō Satsujin [Fire Style: Screaming Murder] RANK: C CHAKRA USAGE: Low CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu ELEMENT: Katon HANDSEALS: 3 DESCRIPTION: After three hand-seals, the user will clap their hands together and create a dozen or so small, swallow like birds of fire around them. The birds are then used as projectiles, fired all at once, with a range of twenty meters, which they can cover in five seconds. They can cause serious burns, and disfigurement alone. The night had come and gone leading to the start of the third round. A hearty meal and good night's rest had done wonders for Mairusu's energy levels and aside from being a little chilly on account of sleeping on a snowy mountain the boy felt really good considering all the time spent on his feet the day prior. After two tests he hadn't ended up with a scroll so whatever benefit that came with it he'd never know, but at least nothing bad had come from not having one which was the best he could ask for.

As he walked up to the starting line it was impossible to miss the extra jazz his opponent received in their introduction, no doubt a result of the boy being from Kumo, though the part about running with wolves did not go unnoticed. "Yep, let's have some fun." Mairusu replied as he bowed in return. This honestly was the part he was dreading the most as in his mind his skillset was lacking compared to others he knew. The thought of waiting to enter the exams until he had made some considerable progress with sage mode had crossed his mind many times on the lead up to the exams but considering how it was supposed to be a secret --according to Miho anyhow-- there's no guarantee he would have used it anyway. Still, the option would have been nice. Oh well, no use crying over it now. The boy still had some tricks up his sleeve and there was one thing in particular he wanted to do anyway so there was still merit to this fight.

Whatever smile that was on Mairusu's face quickly disappeared as he watched his opponent summon two wolves --hence the introduction-- and a sigh of annoyance escaped the genin. He had the worst luck when it came to fights and having to deal with a bunch of opponents: Miroru and her foxes, Muramasa and his rabbit puppets, and now Yamatsu and his overgrown dogs; he just couldn't catch a break. Annoyed as he was this was a situation that shinobi would possibly have to deal with and showing that he could handle it would hopefully go a long way towards becoming chunin.

The wolves would split to either side as Yamatsu would unleash a bunch of small fire projectiles towards him. If the wolves had tried to close in it would have been a problem but being flanked wasn't the worst thing in the world and it allowed Mairusu to focus on the incoming attack. Performing a single seal the genin would focus raiton chakra into his core before spitting out a sizable ball of electricity aimed at the incoming jutsu. Upon hitting the lead 'bird' the ball of raiton would detonate sending a shockwave out three meters that, if the initial hit hadn't destroyed them, would hopefully snuff out the other projectiles or send them off course.

When it reaches its max range or hits a solid target the ball of electricity will explode in a 3 meter concussive blast, as well as electrocuting anything nearby.

Yamatsu could feel his pulse quicken as the combat began. He had been nervous even admittedly scared of this part. However looking across the arena at his fellow genin with Oki and Ino making their moves, he was excited. He saw the counter measure hit the lead crow exploding the following concussive blast catching the flaming flock dissipating them into harmless embers. After the electricity left the boys hands Oki and Ino made their moves both charging at different angles. They had been told before hand not to use their teeth but claws were on the table. Yamatsu began running to his left in the direction Ino has gone reaching into his left leg weapon pouch pulling out four shuriken. These had been the ones the proctors from the last round had thrown at then coated in poison. Yamatsu was sure that the poison had lost its potency and had let the dark liquid dry keeping the blades dark. Maybe the ruse would work, maybe his opponent would think they were poisoned. As Ino charged at the boys right flank she jumped what would seem to be slightly early. She was timing her pounce within the practiced formation as Oki suddenly disappeared. The larger would had used the Body Flicker to hopefully ram the Konoha male sending him into the waiting claws and weight of his sister. Yamatsu at the moment of Oki's justu activating would throw his Shuriken to where he hoped the boy would land. This was formation A, Yamatsu distracts as the wolves attack. SPOILER: Click to show NAME: Shunshin no Jutsu [Body Flicker Technique] RANK: D CHAKRA USAGE: Low CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [General] ELEMENT: None HANDSEALS: 1 DESCRIPTION: By invigorating one's entire body with chakra, a shinobi can seemingly disappear and reappear in another location faster than most people can see. Often times one's movements are disguised with the use of an extra element, be it a smoke bomb, leaves, water, sand, etc. in order to hide the user's trajectory from those with skilled eyes. Though it mimics teleportation, it is important to remember this jutsu merely boosts the agility of its user. As useful as this technique is, it can only be used 4 times in a battle thread, compounding in exertion and difficulty each time. with any more usages beyond that result in muscle tears in the legs from overexertion. The hand seal for this technique must be held until the shinobi reaches their destination, making it impossible to utilize other techniques regardless of any preparation. Oki is using the Body Flicker Yamatsu is throwing dried poison coated shuriken at a pre planned area from their formation, not at Mairusu

His plan to cancel out the attack had worked as well as expected though the boy could feel himself falling into the same pattern as his previous bouts against multiple enemies: constantly being on the defensive. Splitting attention between many targets was tricky as focusing too much on one was a surefire way to give another an opening to attack and it was just all downhill from there. A few options ran through Mairusu's head as he thought of ways to try and mitigate the numbers disadvantage but with the resources he used in earlier rounds they wouldn't be as expansive as he'd have liked so waiting for the right time to break 'em out was key.

Eyes shifted as his opponents began to move again, it was tough keeping track especially with one of the dogs always being on his flank but the silver lining was that to stay in their formation they were focused on him, and more importantly looking at him. Weaving two quick seals the genin would focus chakra to a point just above his forehead before a blinding flash of light filled the area removing sight from anyone unlucky enough to be looking directly at him for about ten seconds which would potentially stop all three of their attacks or at least send them off course.

With raiton chakra still buzzing through his body Mairusu would work to focus it towards his legs as he began to sprint forward in the only direction available to him using the bump in speed to try and avoid the quickly moving wolf assuming it was still charging at him as well as the shuriken aimed his way. His path took him to just a bit in front of where Yamatsu had started the match essentially flipping the field. From his pouch the boy would pull out his last two lightning rods, holding one in each hand as moved into a readying stance. Having used a couple of them during the race it would be tough to utilize them for what they were really intended for so he'd have to improvise. Besides, he wouldn't be able to play keep away from the wolves forever so he had to prepare to get up close and personal.

The user will perform the needed Handsigns and focus Raiton chakra to a single point above the forehead to cause an instant flash of light to be produced that can blind anyone directly staring at the point of origin for about ten Seconds. This is a great tactical move for those attempting an escape.

Being born with the innate ability to channel his chakra into raiton, Mairusu has spent quite a bit of time practicing with the element and learning various techniques. Though still a novice shinobi the boy can use his lightning natured chakra to aid him not only in combat but as a boon for simpler tasks such as increasing his movement speed and playing the occasional prank.

Yamatsu skidded to a halt as his eye sight blurred turning white. It was like when he was a child looking at the sun. The mistake had been a foolish one, instinctively he had followed his opponents hands with his eyes. It cost him his vision for who knew how long during this important occasion. He heard Ino whimper when she realized the sudden disability, his yelp in response was one of reassurance. As the twin wolves attack failed Ino was the first to notice Yamatsu stop in his tracks. The young mans hands shot to his eyes rubbing them as she whimpered a call to him. His responsive yelp calmed her worry as she returned her focus on their prey. Oki had skidded to a halt as his body slam missed his target. With a growl of frustration left the muzzle of the larger twin as his eyes found his opponent where they had started. Yamatsu could not see his quarry but could hear where the other genin had stopped. He heard metal and assumed the other had pulled some sort of weapon maybe a kunai or two. He barked a command to the twin trying to keep their pack tactics a secret as he wove four seals taking a deep breath. He might not be able to see his opponent but this jutsu did not really need to be precise. As Yamatsu inhaled the twins took off again at full speed. As the giant ball of flames escaped his lips aimed in the general direction of his opponent Yamatsu's ears twitched. He could hear the excitement from his siblings, long had it been since they had the chance to let loose as themselves. Again Yamatsu barked reiterating not to use lethal force on their opponent. SPOILER: Click to show Name: Katon: Endan [Fire Release: Fireball] Rank: C Chakra Usage: Low Type: Ninjutsu Element: Katon HANDSEALS: 4 Description: After doing the necessary hand seals, the user molds a large amount of oil within their gut before spitting it out, simultaneously lighting it aflame with their charka. The result is a giant fireball, fueled by oil, which burns everything engulfed in it. Since it is both fire and oil mixed together, it is even difficult to be put out by water.

The flash had worked wonders in throwing off his pursuer's assault and it gave Mairusu plenty of time to evade the shuriken and get out of the way of the incoming wolf to essentially flip the field. Mairusu felt a twinge of guilt as the whimpers of the animals filled the arena as he had grown quite fond of nature and all that came with it over the last few years, but a fight was a fight and they probably had no qualms about using their sharp teeth and claws to hurt him.

Though two of his opponents were still struggling with their vision being obscured it didn't stop them from barking at each other --Yamatsu included-- which was strange to see in real time and almost sounded like they were talking to one another, but there was no way Yamatsu could understand what they were saying right? Right?! Contemplation would have to wait as the trio would turn in his general direction, probably still not able to see completely but having followed him by either sound or smell. As the two wolves began to charge at him Yamatsu would use another jutsu, this time a large fireball that was aimed at the general-ish direction of the sage apprentice.

From this distance Mairusu could tell that his opponent didn't know exactly where he was given how off center the fireball was but he had made up for it by picking a technique that was large enough to cover an area that the genin wouldn't be able to easily skirt around. Even with his increased speed Mairusu knew he'd be cutting it close and really didn't feel like taking the chance, and he'd also have to still contend with the wolves even if he did manage to evade the fireball.

So what was he to do? Well, that one thing of course! His goal had been to save that trump card for the third round anyway though he would have preferred the second part since there was another fight after this one and possible future opponents knowing his trick wasn't ideal. But it was either use it now or hope he survived getting hit by a giant fireball to keep the secret... an easy decision.

The genin would take a moment to plant the two stakes into the ground right beside him as he brought his thumb to his mouth before biting just hard enough to draw blood. He hoped Yamatsu's vision cleared enough to see what was coming because otherwise he was going to miss something cool as hell. Performing a set of seals the boy would raise both hands before bringing them down on the cold ground in front of him. "TO ME, MY RASHOMON!" With a puff of smoke a large gate sporting the face of a demon would rise from the ground putting an impregnable defense between Mairusu, the fireball, and the twin wolves. Haa, holy shit it worked! The boy thought to himself as the exploding fireball billowed smoke into the immediate area. He hoped the dense smell would be enough to give the wolves pause since it'd be a bit until they could see him.

But what was the genin to do now? Stopping attack after attack was nice and all, but a war of attrition wasn't something Mairusu was really suited for, especially at a numbers disadvantage. He needed to put the pressure on his opponent if he had any hope of winning this match. Grabbing the stakes once more, Mairusu would dart from the right side of the gate, his form hopefully still obscured as he wanted to make a bee line towards where he had last seen Yamatsu. Closing the distance was paramount and he wanted to try and get to him before the wolves could catch up.

Assuming he was able to close in Mairusu would perform a single seal that would send raiton chakra into his hands and in turn conduct into the lightning rods that made them brim with electricity to the point where pulses of the shocking stuff began to emit. He'd take a swing with his right hand towards Yamatsu's midsection, nothing lethal of course, but it would definitely hurt if it connected and even a near miss still held the possibility of the boy being hit with a jolt of electricity.

Shut tightly, this menacing gate when summoned provides a tremendous defense for its summoner and is able to completely intercept an opponent's physical attack. With a total of five gates being possible to summon (With the a the chakra cost multiplying with each gate summoned) this technique could be considered an ultimate defense as far as blocking a direct attack goes. While they naturally have the downfall of being able to be moved around and their bases attacked to try and by pass the gate, going through them is nearly impossible. With enough mastery over this technique, the user can use it or its stronger variations without the need for hand seals.

Raiton energy is sent through an object held in direct contact by the user. Raiton energy excites the atoms that make up the object to the point were it visibly emanates electricity. The raiton cloak in turn uses the same energy to discharge multiple currents of electricity in pulse-like intervals. This leads the object to let out extremely painful currents of electricity for up to a foot away from point of contact; while causing moderate electrical burns at the point of contact.

Yamatsu could not fully appreciate the sight of the summoned wall. His vision was recovering but still blurry, to him he saw smoke and a large mass rising. The ball of fire collided with the wall exploding causing the wolves to stop in their tracks. The two animals split Oki running left as Ino ran right. She saw their prey dashing from the smoke feeling frustration playing this game of cat and mouse. Oki ran around the wall picking up speed to tray and catch up to their quarry. Yamatsu's vision was blurry and he could not see the form of his opponent burst from the smoke. He however could hear the foot steps, the cadence and sound vastly different than the padded paws of his siblings. His ears had picked up the sound of the other boy as he began his run, moments before Mairusu emerged in his attack. Yamatsu was tired of chasing his fellow genin forming three seals. He listened waiting for the last moment before Mairusu got to close before unleashing a volley of small fireballs. Oki emerged from the smoke on the same trajectory as the Konoha genin snarling in frustration as Ino dashed in from the side at a sharper angle. Their muscles pumped adrenaline through their bodies. They were ready to end this game, Oki barked an order to his sister wanting her to target the boys legs as he went for his back. Yamatsu was to busy with his jutsu to counter the wolves knowing that it was a better option to end this quickly. SPOILER: Click to show Name: Housenka no Jutsu [Phoenix Sage Fire Technique] Rank: C Chakra Usage: Low Type: Ninjutsu Element: Katon HANDSEALS: 3 Description: After performing the necessary handseals, the user expels a series of small fireballs, each one about the size of a kunai. This are fired in succession and in such numbers that it makes it difficult to dodge by simple means. They are light in form and so they can even be used to hide shuriken within them without being disturbed. SA Special Ability #2 Enhanced Hearing The mountains are quiet and so are the animals that live there. For three years Yamatsu learned to hear the subtle shifting of dirt and loose pebbles. His hearing became almost akin to that of the wolves he lived with. Being able to hear subtle movements up to 20 meters (Genin limit for passive) away. He would use his ears when hunting alone staying still to let the animals roar the rocky terrain around him. The enhanced sense has a drawback leaving Yamatsu disoriented more than normal if a loud enough noise goes off near him.

Perhaps it had been an overestimation of his ability to hide his presence and get the jump on his opponents, or underestimating just how much ground three combatants could cover in terms of eyesight in addition to having four legs to speed them on, but whatever the case Mairusu had found himself in a bit of a pickle as Yamatsu's vision had returned enough for him to send a counter his way while the two wolves were right on his heels trying to intercept the genin before he could reach their... master? He had no idea what the dynamic was but it hardly mattered. The fireballs weren't big but they were multiple and would no doubt hurt if the Konoha shinobi decided to try and run through them, even using the lightning rods to try and take the brunt of the attack would no doubt leave his arms a little crispy.

Luck truly had not been on his side when it came to fights during his brief shinobi career as all of his memorable ones to this point had consisted with him being severely outnumbered with little in the way of being able to counter it. Once again the missing fruits of his labor over the last few years were biting him in the butt and it wasn't about to get any better, however, there'd be time to lament after he figured out what to do in this situation.

With forward, left, and behind him all no goes in terms of movement Mairusu had but option left to him and it came in the form of a haphazard and none too graceful leap to the right, one of the fireballs still connecting with half of the lightning rod and part of his palm which felt none too pleasant. Dropping the makeshift weapons the genin would shoot to his knees trying to right himself best he could from such an ugly roll. "Aight I'm done, ya got me." He spoke quickly hoping to get the match stopped before the wolves got their paws and jaws on him. He didn't like the idea of quitting at all and knew there was at least one annoying conversation waiting for him once the exams were over, but sometimes taking the opportunity to regroup and being able to fight another day was best, no matter how shitty he felt in the moment.

"Heel!" Yamatsu made sure his command was loud and clear, he knew personally how hard it could be in the middle of the hunt to be aware of their surroundings. Ino trotted to a stop walking over to the Konoha genin giving him a quick lick to his cheek. The she wolf then moved to her brother Yamatsu's side flanking him on his left. Oki took a little more time stopping only fully coming to a halt a meter behind Mairusu. The older of the two twins did not show the same affection to his ex-quarry. Oki circled once before snorting and trotting to Yamatsu's right side. The Kumo boy was excited for his victory but wanted to be honorable and curtious. He approached his opponent offering a hand. "That was an amazing battle, maybe one day we can do it again." The two wolves behind him looked to bow as well showing a sign of respect to Mairusu. "Good luck in the next round I'll be rooting for you." With that Yamatsu headed towards the doors he had entered the arena in. On his way he made sure to pull out the pill he had received for his scroll taking it immediately. "You two were amazing, as always I'm proud to call you siblings." He ran his fingers through the fur atop their heads scratching behind their ears.

The penultimate match of the 1v1s drew to a close as Mairusu called his concession; a proctor was quick to appear on the battlefield, physically interjecting herself in between Mairusu and the oncoming wolves just in case the animals were too laser-focused on their target to stop. It ended up being an unnecessary precaution; both wolves were obedient to Yamatsu’s quickly-issued command, and the match ended without issue. The proctor made herself scarce as the announcer stepped forward and called in a booming voice: "Ikonokoru Yamatsu wins!” The crowd went wild—there was booing, of course, but it was drowned out by the overwhelming enthusiasm of the Kumogakure spectators going all-out to demonstrate their support for their hometown boy. Both the boys were briefly looked over by medics, but neither appeared to be particularly badly injured, so they were each allowed to return to the spectator box with the rest of the genin to watch the final 1v1 match before the exams moved on into the team fights.
